RESUMO

The aim of this study was to evaluate the histopathological and apoptotic changes occurring in the rat ipsilateral and contralateral testes, after experimental spermatic cord torsion, and to explore and the role of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) cleavage in testicular torsion-detorsion injury. A total of 37 Wistar albino rats were subjected to 720° unilateral spermatic cord torsion for 1, 2 and 4 h, followed by 4-h reperfusion, or else to a sham operation (control group). Histology of the testicle was evaluated using haematoxylin-eosin (H&E) staining and Johnsen's scoring system. Germ cell apoptosis was evaluated via active caspase-3 immunostaining, and PARP expression levels were evaluated via Western blotting. The mean Johnsen's tubular biopsy scores (JTBS) of the ipsilateral testicles were lower for all torsion groups than for the controls (P < 0.05), but the JTBS of the contralateral testicles were only lower in the 4-h torsion group (P < 0.05). The mean apoptosis score (AS) of the ipsilateral and contralateral testicles was significantly higher in the torsion groups than in the sham group. AS increased correlatively with torsion time, in both testicles. The effect of testicular torsion on PARP cleavage was time dependent, with the highest effect observed after 4 h of testicular torsion (P < 0.05). Testicular torsion caused time-dependent histological changes, apoptosis and increases in PARP cleavage. Our results suggest that testicular torsion-detorsion injury caused cell damage and germ cell apoptosis that apparently involved cleavage of PARP. Increased PARP cleavage could, in turn, lead to enhanced apoptosis.

Fundamentos: La cerveza sin alcohol es una bebida saludable. Esta contiene lúpulo que junto a sus polifenoles: myrcenol y xanthumol aportan a la cerveza propiedades sedantes. Nuestro objetivo es determinar la influencia de la cerveza sin alcohol sobre la ansiedad y la calidad del sueño nocturno, en una población de estudiantes sometidos a estrés. Métodos: Se reclutó una población de 31 estudiantes. Se les analizó el sueño mediante Activimetría por Actiwatch®, durante 3 semanas. Y se les realizaron el Cuestionario de sueño Pittsburgh y Cuestionario de ansiedad STAI. Las 2 últimas semanas se ingirió una cerveza sin alcohol en la cena. Resultados: En Activimetría se mostraron diferencias significativas (p<0,05) en cuanto a la disminución de la Latencia de sueño tras la ingesta de cerveza sin alcohol (16,67±17,62 min), frente al grupo control (22,19±21,34 min). También se observaron diferencias en el Cuestionario de sueño Pittsburgh, siendo estadísticamente significativas en la segunda semana de tratamiento (7,07±4,37) frente a la Semana Control (9,03±6,31). Además del Cuestionario de Ansiedad/Estado STAI, que mostró disminución. Conclusión: La Latencia de sueño analizada por Activimetría mejora tras la toma de una cerveza sin alcohol en la cena. El Índice de sueño de Pittsburgh constata dicha mejoría en el sueño nocturno. Así como la disminución de la Ansiedad/Estado por STAI (AU)


Introduction: Non-alcoholic beer it is a healthy beverage. Its contains hop, and polyphenols: myrcenol and xanthoumol giving beer sedative properties. Our aim is to determine the influence of non-alcoholic beer on anxiety and sleep quality in a student population under stress. Methods: A population of 31 students. Sleep data were collected through Actimetry (Actiwatch®) for 3 weeks. Participants filled out the Pittsburgh Sleep Questionnaire and STAI Anxiety Questionnaire. Last 2 weeks volunteers ingested a non-alcoholic beer at dinner. Results: Results showed significant differences (p<0.05) of reduction in Sleep latency after ingesting non-alcoholic beer (16.67±17.62 min) versus the control group (22.19±21.34 min). Statistically significant differences were showed in the Pittsburgh Sleep Questionnaire in the second week of treatment (7.07±4.37) compared to the Control week (9.03±6.31). Regarding the STAI Anxiety Questionnaire, it was observed a decrease. Conclusion: There is a decrease in Sleep latency after ingesting non-alcoholic beer at dinner. The Pittsburgh Sleep Index found that improvement in nighttime sleep. And the Anxiety/State by the STAI improves (AU)

Fundamentos: Todavía son poco conocidas las especificidades que la organización alternada de turnos de trabajo puede representar para la salud y en particular para la alimentación y nutrición. El objetivo de este trabajo fue analizar los hábitos alimenticios y nutricionales en profesionales con turno rotatorios. Métodos: Se enrolaron 15 mujeres, personal sanitario, voluntarias sanas con normopeso. Rellenaron un recordatorio de 24 h y un cuestionario de frecuencias autocompletadas diariamente, de forma exhaustiva, con los alimentos consumidos durante 7 días. El análisis dietético y nutricional fue llevado a cabo mediante: Programa DIAL. Resultados: La ingesta de energía fue superior a la recomendada (2209,13±16,4 Kcal), así como proteínas (96,15±6,88 g), y lípidos (108,29±8,61 g), con un alto consumo de raciones diarias de aceites y grasas), lácteos y carnes y pescados. La ingesta de hidratos de carbono fue menor (192±14,37 g) de la recomendada, con un mejor consumo en raciones de cereales y azucares. La ingesta de las vitaminas niacina, B12, C y K, así como sales minerales, especialmente sodio y fosforo, fueron superiores al doble de las CDR. Se detectaron deficiencias nutricionales en su dieta diaria para zinc, hierro, iodo, magnesio y ácido fólico, e ingestas muy por debajo del CDR para flúor, potasio, calcio y vitamina D. Conclusión: El colectivo estudiado sometido a turnos rotatorios mantuvo una dieta no equilibrada que debería balancearse hacia los hidratos de carbono, además de corregir el consumo diario deficiente en calcio y excesivo en sodio, factores de riesgo para la osteoporosis e HTA respectivamente (AU)


Foundations: There is limited knowledge about the impact of alternated shift work for health and nutrition. Our aim was to analyze the food and nutritional habits in health professionals with shift work rotation. Methods: Some 15 voluntary healthy women, health personnel, with normal weight were recruited. They completed a 24-hour dietary recall and a daily Food Frequency Questionnaire for 7 days. Nutrient analysis was performed with DIAL software. Results: The study group had energy intakes above recommendations (2209.13±16.4 Kcal), as well as proteins (96.15±6.88 g) and lipids (108.29±8.61 g), with high consumption for oils and fats), dairies and meats and fish, and intakes below recommendations for carbohydrate (192±14.37 g), with lower consumption for cereals and sweets. Regarding macro and micronutrients, intakes for vitamins niacin, B12, C and K as well as for sodium and phosphorus were above twofold of the RDA. Intakes for zinc, iron, iodine, magnesium and folic acid, as well as for fluoride, potassium, calcium and vitamin D were far below RDA. Conclusion: The study group under rotating shift work had an unbalanced diet, which should turn into higher carbohydrate intake and adequate intakes for calcium, now deficient, and excessive sodium intake, risk factors for osteoporosis and high blood pressure, respectively (AU)

Fundamento: El aminoácido esencial triptófano como precursor del neurotransmisor serotonina y la hormona melatonina implicados en la función fisiológica del sueño, puede jugar un papel relevante en los recién nacidos a través de los preparados para lactantes. Se analizan los efectos de preparados para lactantes disociados en sus niveles de triptófano para encarrilar el ritmo sueño/vigilia. Material y métodos: Se han realizado dos ensayos aleatorizados con preparados para lactantes disociados en sus niveles de triptófano de tres semanas de duración. Los parámetros de sueño se cuantificaron por actimetría. Resultados: Los resultados obtenidos en el primer ensayo muestran que estos preparados ayudan a la consolidación del ritmo circadiano sueñolvigilia. Se constata una mejoría significativamente favorable en horas de sueño, eficiencia de sueño y latencia de sueño(AU)


Background: The Essentials amino acid tryptophan, as a precursor of the neurotransmitter serotonina and melatonin hormone envolved in the physiological function of sleep, can play an important role through infant formulate in the infants. In this paper effects of unlinked in tryptophan levels infant formulae to track the sleep/wake pace is analyzed. Methods: Two randomized trials have been conducted with unliked tryptophan levels infant formulae during a three-week period. Sleep parameters were quantified by actimetry. Results: Results obtained in the first trial show that these preparations help in the consolidation of circadian rhythm sleep/wake. There is a significantly positive improvement in hours of sleep, sleep efficiency and sleep latency(AU)
