RESUMO
In a period of 10 years 38 patients received treatment in the clinic for iron deficiency anemia in whom the source of chronic blood loss was revealed in the small intestine. The radionuclide method for detecting concealed blood loss was most informative for the diagnosis (98%) of chronic intestinal hemorrhages, and was particularly important in cases with iron deficiency anemia of unclear genesis. Oral enterography was the most available method and sufficiently informative (32%) in the diagnosis of chronic hemorrhages from the small intestine. In 3-4 day, blood loss of more than 10 ml/24 h from the gastrointestinal tract verified by the radionuclide method but with the source of the bleeding not identified by instrumental methods, the indications for diagnostic laparotomy must be widened for careful examination of the small intestine.

The authors describe 10 patients with associated diffuse toxic goiter and thrombocytopenic purpura and a female patient with associated goiter and a three-shoot autoimmune peripheral cytopenia. In 8 patients thyrotoxicosis preceded the appearance of thrombocytopenia, in 3 patients, both the conditions were diagnosed at a time. In 4 patients, the measurements were taken of the IgG content on the surface of platelets according to Dixon et al. In 3 patients, the IgG content turned out to be appreciably elevated, in one patient, the content of IgG was within normal, however the latter patient was examined after prednisolone intake that had given rise to an increase in the platelet count. Two patients who received radioactive iodine and three patients treated by thyrostatic drugs were later on subjected to splenectomy. In 4 patients, thrombocytopenic purpura remitted after subtotal strumectomy. One female patient was subjected to sectoral resection of the thyroid. Two years after surgery the patient, who was in an euthyroid state, developed thrombocytopenia which required splenectomy. It is possible that in the latter case there was no direct relation between the two diseases. The relationship between the two autoimmune diseases, diffuse toxic goiter and thrombocytopenic purpura, remained unclear in other 10 cases. The relationship between the diseases under consideration and approaches to specifying the character of such a relationship are under discussion.

Clinical assessment of the efficiency of the method of ultrasound cavitation in the liquid medium of tomicid has shown a pronounced antibacterial effect in addition to stimulation of reparative-regenerating processes as compared with traditional methods of treatment. The proposed method allowed wide use of secondary sutures. It resulted in two-times shortening the treatment of the patients at the hospital.

On the basis of analysis of splenectomies in 25 patients in the terminal stage of subleukemic myelosis--myelofibrosis with the aim of prevention and treatment of complications and better endurability of splenectomy the authors have elaborated a complex of measures for intensive therapy such as conducting the operation under protection of donor thrombocytes, limited transfusion of the whole blood, early administration of antibiotics, heparin therapy and disaggregation therapy in postoperative therapy.

The left atrium myocardium of patients with mitral stenosis was subjected to electron microscopy with quantitative analysis of the pictures prior to and 10-15 minutes following mitral commissurotomy. The control was served by the left atrium myocardium of a man free from mitral disease, the specimen being obtained during surgery for an anterior mediastinum lypoma. In the left atrium myocardium of patients with mitral stenosis changes were revealed that demonstrated a severe decompensation of both the energy and contractile apparatus of the cardiac myocytes. Following mitral commissurotomy the activity of the bioenergy apparatus of the cardiac cells normalizes.
