RESUMO

The data on the instability of the epidemiological situation in measles in many European countries are presented, the causes of this instability and the development of major outbreaks of measles in some countries are explained. The data on the high epidemiological effectiveness of mass revaccination of high school and college students are given: this revaccination has made it possible to reduce the number of susceptible persons, formerly vaccinated with a single injection, 8-10 times. The author believes that the mass revaccination of high school and college students may be most effective if made not later than 15-20 years after vaccination with a single injection. The main principles of the strategy of vaccination and revaccination are formulated. The analysis of the strategy of vaccinal prophylaxis and the dynamics of morbidity shows the impossibility of decreasing the morbidity rate in most European countries below 1 per 100,000, as determined by the WHO Regional Committee. The simultaneous mass revaccination of high school and college students, formerly vaccinated with a single injection, may be the most effective measure for achieving this aim.

RESUMO

The population of the Russian Federation has been divided into 5 groups according to their immunity to measles; the epidemiological importance of this division for the prognosis of measles morbidity for the next decade has been substantiated. As revealed in this study, children under 6 years and born in 1966-1978 who have received only one immunization are least protected from measles and make up the main socio-epidemiological nucleus of the population which will determine the level of measles morbidity in the next decade. The conclusion has been made on the necessity of mass immunization (revaccination) of high school and college students and groups of servicemen not later than 1995 in order to eliminate measles by the year of 2000.

RESUMO

The data on the epidemiological effectiveness of the mass booster immunization of students of high schools, as well as professional and technical schools, against measles are presented. Booster immunization is considered to be a highly effective antiepidemic measure aimed at decreasing morbidity rate in measles.

RESUMO

In this work the dynamics and morbidity level in respect of meningococcal infection at 11 territories of the RSFSR at the period of 1969-1984 are analyzed. The study covered altogether 16 cities and 211 districts. The role of big cities as the sources of infection spreading into rural areas and further "fixation" of this infection mainly in regions with a population of 60,000 and more had been established. The data on meningococcal morbidity and carriership among different age groups are presented. The study has shown a pronounced increase in the incidence rate of meningococcal infection among children aged up to 2 years, as well as an increase in the proportion of these children among patients with meningococcal infection in recent years.
