RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: to investigate the Electrophysiological responses post-Kabat Motor Control Re-education in Bell's palsy which might restore the neuromuscular circuit and normal function of the nerve. METHODS: Thirty children diagnosed with Bell's palsy were equally divided into two groups; the study group that received Kabat Motor Control Re-education and the physical therapy selected designed program, and the control group that received physical therapy selected designed program. The outcomes included Electroneurography (ENoG) measuring distal latency, amplitude, and percentage of degenerations, and the Sunnybrook facial grading system (SFGS), as pre and post-treatment, all parameters were evaluated. RESULTS: The ENoG findings approved that post-intervention there was a significant improvement in the study group more than the control group (p<0.05), as the percent of change of latency, amplitude, and percent of degeneration for both frontalis and orbicularis oris of the study group was 18.12-13.6%, 88.3-107.8%, and 74.4-78.9% respectively and that of the control group was 10.8-7.7%, 63.4-69.4%, and 54.9-54.8% respectively, also the percent of change of SFGS post-treatment, for study and control groups was 234.1% and 209.1% respectively. CONCLUSION: The Electrophysiological responses approved that the advanced Kabat rehabilitation combined with motor control re-education training using extrinsic feedback cues had a valuable effect in the treatment of Bell's Palsy. RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Heamophilia is considered a disorder in both children and adolescents which may affect their quality of life seriously than their normal peers; this study investigated the impact of the Neurodynamics Nerve Flossing Technique (NFT) on femoral neuropathy in patients with haemophilia. METHOD: Thirty haemophilic children with Femoral Neuropathy were randomly allocated into two equivalent groups; the study group which received Neurodynamics NFT of the femoral nerve and conventional therapy program, and the control group which received only the conventional therapy program, three sessions/week for 12 weeks. Femoral nerve motor conduction velocity (MCV) and level of pain sensation according to the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), were assessed pre and post interventions. RESULTS: post-treatment comparison between both groups revealed that there was a significant increase in femoral nerve MCV and reduction of pain sensation of the study group compared to the control group (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: Neurodynamics Nerve flossing had a clear effect in the treatment of femoral neuropathy in children with haemophilia.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To determine the effect of neurogenic acupoint dry cupping therapy on high sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) level, pain perception & intensity, and life impact of pelvic pain in women with chronic pelvic pain (CPP), with regard to the biological and neurophysiological impacts of dry cupping on acupoint. METHODS: Thirty women with CPP were randomly divided into two equal groups; the study group received dry cupping on neurogenic acupoints plus lifestyle modifications for 8 weeks (n=15), while the control group received only lifestyle modifications for 8 weeks (n=15). Women were assessed pre- and post-rehabilitation program with the hs-CRP blood test, the short-form McGill Pain Questionnaire (SF-MPQ), and the pelvic pain impact questionnaire (PPIQ). RESULTS: Comparing both groups post-treatment revealed that there were significant reductions in levels of hs-CRP, and scores of SF-MPQ & PPIQ (p<0.05) in the study group compared with the control group. Also, there were significant positive correlations between hs-CRP and both SF-MPQ "Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Present Pain Intensity (PPI) index & Pain Rating Index (PRI)" and PPIQ (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: Neurogenic acupoint cupping therapy had significantly improving effects on the degree of inflammation, pain perception & intensity, and life impact of pelvic pain in women with CPP.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: This study investigated the effect of cervical flexor muscles fatigue on neck proprioception and postural stability. METHODS: Forty-five male and female subjects were evaluated pre, immediate after induction of fatigue, and after recovery. Isometric neck flexor muscle endurance test (NET) was used for the induction of cervical flexor muscle fatigue. Cervical proprioception was assessed by cervical joint position error test (JPET) via overhead laser pointer while postural stability was assessed by using (a) biodex balance system measuring "Overall stability index (OSI), Anterior/ posterior (A/P) index and medial/ lateral (M/L) index", (b) multidirectional reach test. RESULTS: There was a significant decrease in cervical proprioception (cervical joint position error test) and postural stability (biodex balance system & multidirectional reach test) immediate post-induction of fatigue compared with both before induction of fatigue & after recovery from fatigue (p<0.001). CONCLUSION: Subjects suffering from cervical muscles fatigue are vulnerable to have a significant effect on neck proprioception and postural instability as it impaired the cervical proprioception sense & postural stability. Therefore, our study provides information for the clinicians and patients to avoid overload fatigue of the cervical muscles because it affects overall postural balance, neck proprioception & righting reaction.
