BACKGROUND: Cyclosporiasis has a marked seasonality. Few community-based studies have addressed this issue and there are no reports from Venezuela. A study was conducted to determine the seasonal variation of infection in a community from Falcon State, Venezuela. METHODS: A sample of 732 individuals was collected for 1 y. Stools were examined with modified Ziehl-Neelsen carbolfuchsin staining of ethyl acetate-formalin concentrates and ultraviolet epiflorescence of wet mounts. RESULTS: Cyclospora prevalence was 9.9% (73/732) with monthly variation from 0% to 35.3%. A trend of increased infections coinciding with the rainy time was observed (p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Cyclosporiasis is common in this area with high endemicity during the rainy periods.

The non-neuronal cholinergic system refers to the presence of acetylcholine, choline acetyltransferase, acetylcholinesterase and cholinergic receptors, nicotinic and muscarinic (mAChRs) expressed in non-neuronal cells. The presence of mAChRs has been detected in different type of tumor cells and they are linked with tumorigenesis. We had previously documented the expression of mAChRs in murine and human mammary adenocarcinomas and the absence of these receptors in normal mammary cells of the same origins. We also demonstrated that mAChRs are involved in breast cancer progression, pointing to a main role for mAChRs as oncogenic proteins. Since the long term treatment of breast cancer cells with the muscarinic agonist carbachol promoted cell death, here we investigated the ability of low doses of this agonist combined with paclitaxel (PX), a taxane usually administered to treat breast cancer, to inhibit the progression of human MCF-7 tumor cells. We demonstrated that PX plus carbachol reduced cell viability and tumor growth in vitro probably due to a down-regulation in cancer stem cells population and in the expression of ATP "binding cassette" G2 drug extrusion pump; also a reduction in malignant-induced angiogenesis was produced by the in vivo administration of the mentioned combination in a metronomic schedule to MCF-7 tumor-bearing NUDE mice. Our results confirm that mAChRs could be considered as therapeutic targets for metronomic therapy in breast cancer as well as the usefulness of a muscarinic agonist as repositioning drug in the treatment of this type of tumors.

INTRODUCTION: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is usually acquired in childhood. In Cuba, its study in pediatric ages is a little explored field. AIM: To identify the prevalence of the infection and its associated risk factors in 3-year-old children in Havana. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An analytic, cross-sectional, epidemiologic analysis was conducted on 1,274 children belonging to the cohort of participants in the Natural History of Wheezing in Cuba study (HINASIC for its Spanish acronym) that were 3 years of age and provided a stool sample. H. pylori infection was identified by determining the H. pylori antigen (Ag) in stool, utilizing the commercial Spinreact kit, from Spain. The data were collected through a questionnaire applied by the researchers that included sociodemographic, environmental, and lifestyle variables, as well as infection from other parasites. Prevalence and the prevalence ratio with a 95% confidence interval were calculated and the dichotomous logistic regression analysis was employed. RESULTS: The prevalence of positive H. pylori Ag was 5%. Sleeping together was the risk factor found (PR:1.27; 95% CI: 1.03-1.50). Protective factors were drinking water from water delivery trucks (PR: 0.16; 95% CI: 0.04-0.72) and living in a nuclear family unit (PR: 0.94; 95% CI: 0.85-0.99). CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of H. pylori infection in early childhood places Havana in an intermediate position at the international level. To control the infection, causal studies should be conducted and opportune interventions implemented.

We construct the Barut-Girardello coherent states for charge carriers in anisotropic 2D-Dirac materials immersed in a constant homogeneous magnetic field which is orthogonal to the sample surface. For that purpose, we solve the anisotropic Dirac equation and identify the appropriate arising and lowering operators. Working in a Landau-like gauge, we explicitly construct nonlinear coherent states as eigenstates of a generalized annihilation operator with complex eigenvalues which depends on an arbitrary function fâ of the number operator. In order to describe the anisotropy effects on these states, we obtain the Heisenberg uncertainty relation, the probability density, mean energy value and occupation number distribution for three different functions fâ. For the case in which the anisotropy is caused by uniaxial strain, we obtain that when the stress is applied along the x-axis of the material surface, the probability density for the nonlinear coherent states is smaller compared to when the material is stressed along the orthogonal axis.

BACKGROUND: muscarinic acetylcholine receptors (mAChRs) have attracted interest as targets for therapeutic interventions in different illnesses like Alzheimer´s disease, viral infections and different tumors. Regarding the latter, many authors have studied each subtype of mAChRs, which seem to be involved in the progression of distinct types of malignancies. METHODS: We carefully revised research literature focused on mAChRs expression and signaling as well as in their involvement in cancer progression and treatment. The characteristics of screened papers were described using the mentioned conceptual framework. RESULTS: Muscarinic antagonists and agonists have been assayed for the treatment of tumors established in lung, brain and breast with beneficial effects. We described an up-regulation of mAChRs in mammary tumors and the lack of expression in non-tumorigenic breast cells and normal mammary tissues. We and others demonstrated that muscarinic agonists can trigger anti-tumor actions in a dose-dependent manner on tumors originated in different organs like brain or breast. At pharmacological concentrations, they exert similar effects to traditional chemotherapeutic agents. Metronomic chemotherapy refers to the administration of anti-cancer drugs at low doses with short intervals among them, and it is a different regimen applied in cancer treatment reducing malignant growth and angiogenesis, and very low incidence of adverse effects. CONCLUSION: The usage of subthreshold concentrations of muscarinic agonists combined with conventional chemotherapeutic agents could be a promising tool for breast cancer therapy.

Biotherapeutic products which are derived from living organisms using recombinant DNA technology significantly contribute to the progress in the treatment of life-threatening and chronic diseases. The worldwide sale of biological drugs in 2016 was near US $263,700 million. In Latin America, where monoclonal antibodies market was worth US $7000 million, being Mexico the second largest market. Approval is one of the key aspects which influences the market of medicinal products, thus it is responsibility of the regulatory authority to establish a regulatory framework that ensure safety and efficacy of the products, and it is responsibility of the applicants to provide a high quality dossier in accordance with the registration requirements of the country. The applicants submitting registration requests in Mexico need to be aware of the requirements. Similar to many other countries, Mexico has adopted the Common Technical Document (CTD) structure for organizing dossier of the medicinal product for submission into main modules (i.e., quality, non-clinical, and clinical). This facilitates the submission process of medicinal products following a logical sequence aligned to the International Council on Harmonisation (ICH) guidelines. Moreover, this structure improves the transparency and clarity of the dossier in process of evaluation of medicinal products. In Mexico, the Ministry of Health has published a regulation, NOM-257-SSA1-2014, which established the general requirements to be followed by applicants to complete the registration of biotherapeutics. This regulation stipulates that the evaluation process is supported by a regulatory framework involving Good Manufacturing Practices, labeling, stability, clinical trials, biocomparability studies, pharmacovigilance, and a technical evaluation performed by a multidisciplinary team of experts in biotherapeutics development. Additionally, the Mexican regulatory agency, COFEPRIS, has published specific guidelines to facilitate the application process. Despite the availability of this information, the scope is limited to regulatory and administrative purposes, rather than technical-scientific supporting knowledge. The aim of this article is to provide concise information to improve and promote communication between industry and regulatory agencies. Herein, we describe the current process of COFEPRIS in regulating biotherapeutics in Mexico. This process explains the basis for the organization and structure of the technical-scientific information of biotherapeutics required for registration application.

BACKGROUND: Our aim in this study was to determine the angle of the internal nasal valve in Mexican patients with the "mestizo nose" feature and without nasal obstructive symptoms. The work was prospective, comparative, and observational in nature and included patients >14 years of age who were seen in the Otolaryngology Department at the Los Angeles Lomas Hospital between April and May 2016. METHODS: The angle of the internal nasal valve was measured in 30 patients without obstructive symptoms. Endoscopic examination was performed with a 0° endoscope framed with tape at a 13-mm distance from the endoscope's tip, and digital photographs of the internal nasal valve were taken. The measurement of the angle of the internal nasal valve was made in sexagesimal degrees using Golden Ratio v3.1 (2012) software. Statistical analysis was performed using Excel v15.13.3. RESULTS: The angles of the internal nasal valve of the patients were (mean ± standard deviation) 24.07 ± 4.8° for the right nasal cavity and 25.07 ± 5.0° for the left nasal cavity, wider than the angle reported in the normal Caucasian nose established in the literature. CONCLUSIONS: According to our results, the Mexican-Hispanic mestizo nose has a wider angle in the internal nasal valve than that considered normal in the literature (10°-15°). We believe it is necessary to undertake a second study and add an airflow resistance measurement with a rhinomanometry procedure so we can compare the results with those in the Caucasian population.

OBJECTIVE: This study evaluates care-related sociodemographic, clinical, and imaging factors and influences associated with outcome at discharge in patients with aneurismal subarachnoid haemorrhage. PATIENTS AND METHOD: Retrospective cohort study in 334 patients treated at Hospital Hermanos Ameijeiras in Havana, Cuba between October 2005 and June 2014. RESULTS: Logistic regression analysis determined that the following factors were associated with higher risk of poor outcome: age older than 65 years (OR 3.51, 95% CI 1.79-5.7, P=.031), female sex (OR 2.17, 95% CI 1.22-3.84, P=.0067), systolic hypertension (OR 4.82, 95% CI 2.27-9.8, P=.0001), and hyperglycaemia at admission (OR 3.93, 95% CI 2.10-7.53, P=.0003). Certain complications were also associated with poor prognosis, including respiratory infection (OR 2.73, 95% CI 1.27-5.85, P=.0085), electrolyte disturbances (OR 3.33, 95% CI 1.33-8.28, P=.0073), hydrocephalus (OR 2.21, 95% CI 1.05-4.63, P=.0039), rebleeding (OR 16.50, 95% CI 8.24-41.24, P=.0000), symptomatic vasospasm (OR 19.00, 95% CI 8.86-41.24, P=.0000), cerebral ischaemia (OR 3.82, 95% CI 1.87-7.80, P=.000) and multiplex rebleeding (OR 6.69, 95% CI 1.35-36.39, P=.0019). Grades of iii and iv on the World Federation of Neurological Surgeons (OR 2.09, 95% CI 1.12-3.91, P=.0021) and Fisher scales (OR 5.18, 95% CI 2.65-10.29, P=.0008) were also related to poor outcome. CONCLUSIONS: Outcome of aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage was related to age, sex, clinical status at admission to the stroke unit, imaging findings according to the Fisher scale, blood pressure, glycaemia and such complications as electrolyte disturbances, hydrocephalus, rebleeding, and multiplex rebleeding.

In the Region of the Americas, access to medicines and other health technologies constitutes a priority for countries as they continue to move towards universal access to health and universal health coverage. Ensuring the availability of affordable medicines and health technologies within health services is required as part of the comprehensive approach to disease prevention and control. Through the adoption of pharmaceutical policies and strategies at the national level, governments establish the framework that will ensure equitable access and affordability of medicines and health technologies, while promoting their rational use. Core to such policies and strategies is the principle of quality, safety and efficacy. The pharmaceutical and health technology sector plays a critical role in the health promotion and protection by ensuring that those products and technologies made available through the health systems respond to international norms of quality and safety. The role of the government, and in particular the ministry of health, jointly with interested stakeholders, is to create a regulatory environment that guarantees the quality of the product throughout its life cycle, to ensure patient safety and optimize health outcomes. As globalization continues, with an ever increasing flow of people and products across borders, product quality and safety becomes a co-responsibility between countries and interconnected regulatory systems—nationally, regionally and globally. The regulatory landscape for medicines and health technologies is complex, given the multiple different types of product (medicines, biologicals, medical devices, etc.), the co-existing of single, limited and multiple source products within the market, the increasing technological complexity of new products entering the market (genomic, biotechnical products, etc.), and the critical array of regulatory functions (clinical studies, manufacturing, distribution, post marketing surveillance, etc.)...

Es necesario asegurar la disponibilidad de medicamentos y tecnologías sanitarias asequibles dentro de los servicios de salud como parte del abordaje integral de la prevención y el control de las enfermedades. Mediante la adopción de políticas y estrategias farmacéuticas a nivel nacional, los gobiernos establecen el marco que garantizará el acceso equitativo y la asequibilidad de los medicamentos y las tecnologías sanitarias, al tiempo que promueve su uso racional. El principio de calidad, seguridad y eficacia ocupa un papel central en tales políticas y estrategias. El sector farmacéutico y de la tecnología sanitaria desempeña una función crucial en la promoción y protección de la salud al asegurar que los productos y tecnologías que se ponen a disposición de las personas por intermedio de los sistemas de salud respondan a las normas internacionales de calidad y seguridad. The Tamaulipan rock rattlesnake (Crotalus lepidus morulus) is a montane snake that occurs in the humid pine-oak forest and the upper cloud forest of the Sierra Madre Oriental in southwestern Tamaulipas, central Nuevo Leon, and southeastern Coahuila in Mexico. Venom from this rattlesnake was fractionated by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography for the purpose of discovering disintegrin molecules. Disintegrins are non-enzymatic, small molecular weight peptides that interfere with cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions by binding to various cell receptors. Eleven fractions were collected by anion exchange chromatography and pooled into six groups (I, II, III, IV, V, and VI). Proteins of the six groups were analyzed by SDS-PAGE and western blot using antibodies raised against a disintegrin. The antibodies recognized different protein bands in five (II, III, IV, V, and VI) of six groups in a molecular mass range of 7 to 105 kDa. Western blot analysis revealed fewer protein bands in the higher molecular mass range and two bands in the disintegrin weight range in group II compared with the other four groups. Proteins in group II were further separated into nine fractions using reverse phase C18 chromatography. Fraction 4 inhibited platelet aggregation and was named morulustatin, which exhibited a single band with a molecular mass of approximately 7 kDa. Mass spectrometry analysis of fraction 4 revealed the identification of disintegrin peptides LRPGAQCADGLCCDQCR (MH+ 2035.84) and AGEECDCGSPANCCDAATCK (MH+ 2328.82). Morulustatin inhibited ADP-induced platelet aggregation in human whole blood and was concentration-dependent with an IC50 of 89.5 nM ± 12.
RESUMO
Lab-scale photolysis, biodegradation and transport experiments were carried out for naproxen, carbamazepine and triclosan in soil, wastewater and surface water from a region where untreated wastewater is used for agricultural irrigation. Results showed that both photolysis and biodegradation occurred for the three emerging pollutants in the tested matrices as follows: triclosan>naproxen>carbamazepine. The highest photolysis rate for the three pollutants was obtained in experiments using surface water, while biodegradation rates were higher in wastewater and soil than in surface water. Carbamazepine showed to be recalcitrant to biodegradation both in soil and water; although photolysis occurred at a higher level than biodegradation, this compound was poorly degraded by natural processes. Transport experiments showed that naproxen was the most mobile compound through the first 30cm of the soil profile; conversely, the mobility of carbamazepine and triclosan through the soil was delayed. Biodegradation of target pollutants occurred within soil columns during transport experiments. Triclosan was not detected either in leachates or the soil in columns, suggesting its complete biodegradation. Data of these experiments can be used to develop more reliable fate-on-the-field and environmental risk assessment studies.

INTRODUCTION: Population aging translates into more people with chronic non-communicable diseases, disability, frailty and dependency. The study of frailty--a clinical syndrome associated with an increased risk of falls, disability, hospitalization, institutionalization and death--is important to improve clinical practice and population health indicators. OBJECTIVES: In a cohort of older adults in Havana and Matanzas provinces, Cuba, estimate prevalence of frailty and its risk factors; determine incidence of dependency; estimate mortality risk and identify mortality predictors. METHODS: A prospective longitudinal study was conducted door to door, from June 2003 through July 2011, in a cohort of 2813 adults aged ≥65 years living in selected municipalities of Havana and Matanzas provinces; mean followup time was 4.1 years. Independent variables included demographics, behavioral risk factors and socioeconomic indicators, chronic non-communicable diseases (hypertension, stroke, dementia, depression, diabetes, anemia), number of comorbidities, and APOE ε4 genotype. Dependent variables were frailty, dependency and mortality. Criteria for frailty were slow walking speed, exhaustion, weight loss, low physical activity and cognitive decline. Prevalence and frailty risk were estimated by Poisson regression, while dependency and mortality risks and their predictors were determined using Cox regression. RESULTS: Frailty syndrome prevalence was 21.6% (CI 17.9%-23.8%) at baseline; it was positively associated with advanced age, anemia and presence of comorbidities (stroke, dementia, depression, three or more physically debilitating diseases). Male sex, higher educational level, married or partnered status, and more household amenities were inversely associated with frailty prevalence. In followup, dependency incidence was 33.1 per 1000 person-years (CI 29.1-37.6) and mortality was 55.1 per 1000 person-years. Advanced age, male sex, lower occupational status during productive years, dependency, frailty, dementia, depression, cerebrovascular disease and diabetes were all associated with higher risk of death. CONCLUSIONS: Given the challenge for developing countries presented by demographic and epidemiologic transition; the high prevalence in older adults of frailty syndrome, dependency and chronic non-communicable diseases; and the association of all these with higher mortality, attention should be targeted to older adults as a risk group. This should include greater social protection, age-appropriate health services, and modification and control of cardiovascular risk factors.

A ortotanásia está regulamentada no Brasil pela Resolução 1805/2006. A pesquisa objetivou refletir e discutir, com contribuições da bioética, sobre práticas de limitação ou retirada de suporte vital em situações de terminalidade. Participaram dez médicos oncologistas de serviços públicos de saúde do Distrito Federal. Um roteiro de entrevista semiestruturada norteou os eixos temáticos investigados. Os dados foram analisados por meio de análise de conteúdo. A quase totalidade dos participantes tinha uma concepção de ortotanásia e de eutanásia compatível com a literatura. Sete médicos conheciam a resolução do CFM e três mencionaram a fragilidade legal de uma regulamentação proveniente de uma entidade de classe. Oito médicos afirmaram que essa regulamentação não afetará sobremaneira a prática cotidiana. Princípios bioéticos, como autonomia, beneficência, não-maleficência e justiça, podem contribuir para a elucidação de dilemas sobre a retirada ou limitação de suporte vital.
Orthothanasia is regulated in Brazil through Resolution 1805/2006. This study aimed to reflect on and discuss the practices of limitation or withdrawal of life support in situations of terminality, using contributions from bioethics. Ten oncologists working in the Federal District's public health service participated. A semi-structured interview framework directed the themes to be investigated. The data were assessed by means of content analysis. Almost all of the participants had a conception of orthothanasia and euthanasia compatible with the literature. Seven doctors knew the FCM Resolution and three mentioned the legal weakness of a regulation originating from a professional body. Eight doctors said that the regulation of the issue would not greatly affect their daily practice. Bioethical principles like autonomy, beneficence, non-harmfulness and justice may contribute towards elucidation of dilemmas regarding removal or limitation of life.
La ortotanasia está regulada en Brasil a través de la Resolución 1805/2006. Esta investigación tiene como objetivo reflexionar y debatir sobre las medidas de limitación o retirada del soporte vital en situaciones terminales. Participaron diez médicos oncólogos de servicios públicos de salud del Distrito Federal, Brasil. Un guía de entrevista semi-estructurada orientó la investigación. Los datos se analizaron mediante el análisis del contenido. Casi todos los participantes tenían una concepción de la ortotanasia y la eutanasia en consonancia con la literatura. Siete médicos conocían la resolución del CFM y tres mencionaron la debilidad legal de una reglamentación proveniente de una entidad de clase. Ocho médicos dijeron que esta reglamentación no afectará en gran medida la práctica diaria. Principios de la bioética pueden contribuir al esclarecimiento de los dilemas sobre la retirada o la limitación del soporte vital.

Quantitative structure-activity relationship models for the prediction of mode of toxic action (MOA) of 221 phenols to the ciliated protozoan Tetrahymena pyriformis using atom-based quadratic indices are reported. The phenols represent a variety of MOAs including polar narcotics, weak acid respiratory uncouplers, pro-electrophiles and soft electrophiles. Linear discriminant analysis (LDA), and four machine learning techniques (ML), namely k-nearest neighbours (k-NN), support vector machine (SVM), classification trees (CTs) and artificial neural networks (ANNs), have been used to develop several models with higher accuracies and predictive capabilities for distinguishing between four MOAs. Most of them showed global accuracy of over 90%, and false alarm rate values were below 2.9% for the training set. Cross-validation, complementary subsets and external test set were performed, with good behaviour in all cases. Our models compare favourably with other previously published models, and in general the models obtained with ML techniques show better results than those developed with linear techniques. We developed unsupervised and supervised consensus, and these results were better than our ML models, the results of rule-based approach and other ensemble models previously published. This investigation highlights the merits of ML-based techniques as an alternative to other more traditional methods for modelling MOA.

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES: The saliva of the Phlebotominae is highly immunogenic to the vertebrate host and is a determining factor in the Leishmania infection. The aim of this work was to study the saliva of Lutzomyia ovallesi as a possible risk marker for the transmission of Leishmania. METHODS: Two populations of L. ovallesi from different geographical areas and subjected to different environmental conditions were compared by geometric morphometry of the wings, by protein profile analysis of salivary glands and by assessing the presence of anti-saliva protein in human sera confronted with laboratory L. ovallesi saliva. RESULTS: The results showed differences in the isometric size and structure of the wings but no allometric effects. Protein profiles of salivary glands of both the L. ovallesi populations studied were found to be similar, based on 11 protein bands with molecular weights ranging from 16 to 99 kDa. Anti-saliva antibodies were present in human sera, but human sera infected and uninfected with leishmaniasis could not be differentiated. INTERPRETATION & CONCLUSION: We conclude that the saliva of laboratory-reared L. ovallesi is representative of that of the wild population. It is suggested to study the presence of anti-saliva antibodies in other species of sandflies and mosquitoes.

Among the problems associated to leishmaniasis, the two most outstanding ones are the lack of a vaccine and the adverse effects caused by drugs use for its control. Meglumine antimoniate compounds are the first-line drugs in the treatment for cutaneous leishmaniasis (the most prevalent form of the disease in Colombia); nevertheless, they are far from being ideal drugs due to their toxicity (not to mention the emergence of drug-resistant parasites), all of which has prompted current search for new strategies to improve their safety. This work assesses the effectiveness and safety (toxicity including new aspects related with immunotoxicity not reported previously) of two different meglumine antimoniate formulations using an in vitro and in vivo murine model. The results evidence that although both injectable formulations induce an equally efficient (clearance of intracellular parasites), both give rise to adverse effects, including a preferential immunomodulation on Balb/c mice and in a lesser proportion on ICR mice. These results are comparable to human trials reporting variable reactions when following the same treatment regimen. The model presented herein is proposed as a tool for evaluating the effectiveness and safety of meglumine antimoniate-based antileishmanial formulations.

En este estudio se analizaron las superficies en el área de soporte y retención en la preparación de los dientes pilares de prótesis parciales removibles inferiores a extensión distal en pacientes atendidos en la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad Central de Venezuela en el 2008. Para esto se realizaron evaluaciones clínicas a 81 pacientes, previo consentimiento informado, para evidenciar el uso de materiales de restauración y la integridad de los tejidos dentales en estas superficies. Los datos obtenidos fueron registrados en tablas diseñadas para tal fin y los resultados mostraron que las superficies dentarias en el área de soporte y retención fueron preparadas en esmalte, dentina, materiales de restauración y en interfase diente restauración en porcentajes variables, además de registrar la frecuencia de los dientes inferiores empleados como pilares de prótesis parciales removibles a extensión distal y el empleo de retenedores indicados para tales casos
This study analyzed the lower distal extension removable partial denture's abutment teeth rest seats and retention surfaces in patients treated at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universidad Central de Venezuela in 2008. These clinical evaluations were performed to 81 patients, previous informed consent, to show the use of restorative materials and the integrity of dental tissues in these areas. The data were recorded in tables designed for this purpose and the results showed that the tooth surfaces in the area of support and retention were prepared in enamel, dentin, restorative materials and tooth restoration interface in varying percentages, as well as record the frequency lower teeth used as abutments for removable partial dentures with distal extension and the use of retainers suitable for such cases

Las cápsulas adrenales también conocidas como glándulas adrenales o suprarrenales, son 2 pequeñas estructuras, una derecha y otra izquierda, ubicadas en la región suprahiliar del borde interno de cada riñón. A pesar de su pequeño tamaño, su función dentro del sistema endocrino es indispensable para el equilibrio metabólico de los seres humanos, de allí que su aporte vascular viene a jugar un papel fundamental en su funcionamiento. Los diferentes textos de anatomía han descrito por años un patrón vascular clásico, sin embargo, éste presenta importantes variaciones en el origen y distribución de sus ramas. Trabajamos con fetos frescos, cuidadosamente disecados, perfundidos con vinil rojo en el sistema arterial, extrayendo un bloque visceral y resecando 66 glándulas adrenales. En nuestros resultados el patrón vascular clásico descrito por los libros de anatomía sólo se observó en el 15,38 por ciento de los casos. El origen de la arteria suprarrenal superior fue detectado en la arteria Aorta (46,15 por ciento), la arteria media también en la Aorta (53,85 por ciento) y la rama inferior igualmente en la Aorta abdominal en tres cuartas partes de los casos (61,54 por ciento sola y en un 12,31 por ciento junto a la arteria renal). La distribución vascular de la glándula derecha difiere de la izquierda en 36 (56,25 por ciento) de los casos
The adrenal glands also known as suprarenal glands, are two small structures located on the suprahiliar border of the kidney. They belong to the endocrine system. The Anatomical books describe for them a classic vascular pattern, nevertheless they really have important variations in origin and branching pattern. In this work we employed human fetuses, carefully dissected, vinyl perfused. The sample was constituted by 66 adrenal glands. After a very careful observation of the serie we found that the classic pattern was seen in 15.30 percent of the sample. Superior suprarenal artery was localized at the abdominal Aorta in 46.15 percent, the medial artery was arising from Aorta in 53.85. percent, and the inferior suprarenal artery was also found taking origin at abdominal Aorta,on its own in 61.54 percent , and in 12.31 percent together with the renal artery. We also notice that the vascular approach to right adrenal gland is different from that for the left gland in 56.25 percent
