RESUMO

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most prevalent type of dementia. Pathologically, the disease is marked by neurofibrillary tangles (NFT), which are aberrant accumulations of the tau protein that develop inside neurons, and extracellular plaque deposits of the amyloid ß peptide (Aß). These pathological lesions are present in the brain before the beginning of clinical manifestations. However, despite advancements in the comprehension of AD pathophysiology, timely and accurate clinical diagnosis remains challenging. Therefore, developing biomarkers capable of detecting AD during the preclinical phase holds enormous promise for precise diagnosis since detecting the disease early is crucial because it enables interventions when treatments may be more effective. This article intends to provide a comprehensive review of AD biomarkers, discussing their significance, classification, and recent developments in the field.

Saccharomyces cerevisiae is a cosmopolitan yeast, widely used in agro-alimentary and pharmaceutical industry. Its impact in human pathology is rare, but maybe still underestimated compared to the real situation. This yeast is currently considered as an emerging and opportunistic pathogen. Risk factors are immunosuppression and intravascular device carrying. Fungemias are the most frequent clinical forms. We report the first case of S. cerevisiae invasive infection described in Morocco, and to propose a review of the literature cases of S. cerevisiae infections described worldwide. A 77-year-old patient, with no notable medical history, who was hospitalized for a upper gastrointestinal stenosis secondary to impassable metastatic gastric tumor. Its history was marked by the onset of septic shock, with S. cerevisiae in his urine and in his blood, with arguments for confirmation of invasion: the presence of several risk factors in the patient, positive direct microbiological examination, abundant and exclusive culture of S. cerevisiae from clinical samples. Species identification was confirmed by the study of biochemical characteristics of the isolated yeast. Confirmation of S. cerevisiae infection requires a clinical suspicion in patients with risk factors, but also a correct microbiological diagnosis.

Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) calcined, denoted as CLDHs, have been shown to recover their original layered structure in the presence of appropriate anions. In the light of this so-called "memory effect", the removal of indigo carmine (IC), an anionic dye, from aqueous solution by calcined Mg-Al-CO(3) LDHs was investigated in batch mode. We looked at the influence of pH values, dye-adsorbent contact time, initial dye concentration and various temperatures of heating of LDHs on the decolorization rate of IC. The adsorption isotherms, described by Freundlich model are L-type. The characterization of the solids CLDHs, both fresh and after removal of IC, by X-ray diffraction and infrared spectroscopy shows that the IC adsorption on CLDHs is enhanced by reconstruction of a matrix hydrotalcite intercaled by the dye, and the intercalation of the organic ion was clearly evidenced by the net increase in the basal spacing from 0.76 nm for [Mg-Al-CO(3)] to 2.13 nm for the organic derivative.
