RESUMO

This paper presents an updated mathematical model of the evolutionary dynamics of the sexual conflict ("battle of the sexes") and its simulated reproductive outcomes. The authors highlight a whole range of life-history traits unique to our species, such as prolonged childhood, growth in parental care, etc. Based on these biosocial premises, the sexual conflict between men and women shifts into the mathematical realm of the "Prisoner's Dilemma" game. The evolutionarily stable strategy of mutual rejection of parenthood would be dominant with this PD strategy in both parents; oscillation dynamics predicted in previous models would not be expected. Despite fatal theoretical prediction of the PD evolutionary game, the newish genetic data of the EPP rates in the historical populations reveals prevalence of cooperation between both sexes, predominantly utilizing the monogamous form of sexuality. Presumably, this sexual norm could have potentially ensured reproductive success in the societies in the past.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To study diagnostic and therapeutic values of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) in writing cramp (WC). MATERIAL AND METHODS: Twelve right-handed patients with WC were enrolled in the study. All patients underwent low-frequency repetitive TMS (rTMS) of the premotor cortex of contralateral to affected hand hemisphere. The clinical efficacy was assessed using the Writer's Cramp Rating Scale (WCRS) and the Medical Outcomes Study-Short Form (MOS-SF-36). Before and after last rTMS session, motor mapping of Abductor pollicis brevis muscle (APB) was performed using navigated TMS (nTMS). Localization, area, and amplitude-weighted area of the APB muscle cortical representations were compared with the healthy controls. After the rTMS course, the dynamics of the studied parameters was assessed. RESULTS: Ten sessions of low-frequency rTMS of premotor cortex reduced the severity of WS clinical symptoms with a duration of effect of at least 1 month (p<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the area and the weighted area of cortical muscle representations between patients and healthy controls or in patients before and after rTMS. When assessing the localization of cortical muscle representations, two trends were noted: in 4 patients, the localization remained stable, with a shift in the center of gravity of less than 4 mm; in the other 8 patients, a shift in the center of mass of more than 5 mm was noted. No significant correlation between the stability of the cortical muscle representations (the magnitude of the shift in the center of gravity) and the improvement on the WCRS were found. CONCLUSION: The low-frequency rTMS of the premotor cortex of the contralateral to affected hand hemisphere can be used as an adjuvant therapy for WC. The TMS-motor mapping study did not show its diagnostic value.

RESUMO

AIM: To assess diagnostic and therapeutic values of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) in patients with writer's cramp (WC). MATERIAL AND METHODS: Twelve right-handed patients with WC were enrolled in the study. All patients underwent low-frequency repetitive TMS (rTMS) over the premotor cortex of the hemisphere contralateral to the affected hand. The clinical efficacy was assessed using the Writer's Cramp Rating Scale (WCRS) and the Medical Outcomes Study-Short Form (MOS-SF-36). Before and after the last rTMS session, motor mapping of abductor pollicis brevis muscle (APB) was performed using navigated TMS (nTMS). Localization, area, and amplitude-weighted area of the APB muscle cortical representations were compared with the healthy controls. The dynamics of the mentioned above parameters after the rTMS course was assessed. RESULTS: Ten sessions of low-frequency rTMS over premotor cortex reduced the severity of WC clinical symptoms, with a duration of effect of at least 1 month (p<0.05). There was no significant difference between the area and the weighted area of cortical muscle representations between patients and healthy controls or in patients before and after rTMS. CONCLUSION: The low-frequency rTMS over the premotor cortex of the hemisphere contralateral to the affected hand can be used as an adjuvant therapy for WC. The TMS-motor mapping study did not show its diagnostic value.

RESUMO

The results of the study of the distribution of calicivirus infection in a population of domestic cats of different breeds, contained individually or the group method, the virus isolation in the cell culture and a comparative phylogenetic analysis of their nucleotide sequences with published sequences of reference feld and vaccine strains of Feline calicivirus (FCV) from other countries: USA, Germany, Japan, China and Korea are presented. Clinical signs of infection were found in 14.3% of the animals examined. After several passages in the primary kidney cells of the kitten embryo, seven cytopathogenic isolates FCV were isolated: 1 - from a cat with an acute infection, 5 - subclinical infection, 1 - systemic infection. They were adapted to continuous FK-81 cells in which they reached a maximum infectious activity of 10.0 ± 1.15 lg TCD 50 / cm3. Based on the sequence analysis of the open reading frame 2 region of the viral genome Eshli strain showed a close relationship with strain KM016908 from China with the identity of the nucleotide sequences between them of 81.0%. The results of the investigations showed that FCV isolates obtained from animals on the territory of Siberia are genetically different from strains included to imported vaccines used to prevent disease in Russian Federation and also among themselves. This causes a decrease in the effectiveness of preventive measures. In nurseries that do not have contacts and connections between themselves but located in the same geographic region FCV populations may have some genetic differences. A close relationship of some feld isolates with strains from other countries geographically located so far from the Siberian region has been revealed. Studies on the molecular epizootology of caliciviruses are important in the development of test systems and the monitoring of the spread of strains in Russia.

RESUMO

The analysis of samples received during ictus of anthrax in the Stavropolskii kraii in 2013 permitted to study comparative effectiveness of regulated methods of laboratory diagnostic. The effectiveness of bacteriological, biological and molecular methods and necessity of their complex application for receiving optimal results are confirmed. The rapidity, effectiveness and specificity of polymerase chain reaction is emphasized. This method in case of absence of isolation of anthrax microbe can be the only method of confirming diagnose in people in aggregate with typical clinical picture and corresponding epidemic situation.

RESUMO

The multicomponent drug Mairin-P that contains isoniazid, 60 mg, rifampicin, 120 mg, pyrazinamide, 300 mg, and ethambutol hydrochloride, 225 mg, has been pharmacokinetically and clinically studied. There was no significant difference in the pharmacokinetic parameters of rifampicin as a component of Mairin-P and in combination with antitubercuous agents as free dosage forms. Treatment of first detected patients with pulmonary tuberculosis who isolate drug-sensitive Mycobacterium tuberculosis with Mairin-P is as effective as conventional treatment regimens with antituberculous drugs. Adverse reactions, including non-correctable one, due to the use of Mairin-P occur less frequently than to that of antituberculous drugs.

RESUMO

Levofloxacin effect on morphokinetic parameters of the murine lung tissue culture was investigated. This model allowed also to evaluate the levofloxacin activity against drug-resistant intracellular and extracellular Mycobacterium tuberculosis: MBC was 0.5-1.0 mg/l. Bactericidal effect started on the 3d day of incubation and was maximal on 7th day. Tissue cells vitality was not changed. Combination of levofloxacin with antimycobacterial drugs of first choice was investigated: isoniazid demonstrated synergistic effect, pyrazinamide also demonstrated synergistic effect. Combination of levofloxacin with rifampicin was antagonistic.

RESUMO

Prevalence and types of hip and spinal fractures were studied in Yaroslavl citizens aged > 50 years. In 1985 prevalence of hip fractures was 36.41 per 100000, in 1993-145, 84 per 100000. Maximal number of the fractures occurred in patients aged over 70 years. Fractures of the thoracic and lumbar spine were registered in 15.00 per 100000 with an increase in 1994. Osteoporotic hip fractures in the population sample occurred less frequently than fractures of the non-typical sites.
