RESUMO

Dielectric elastomers have attracted considerable attention both from academia and industry alike over the last two decades due to their superior mechanical properties. In parallel, research on the mechanical properties of dielectrics has been steadily advancing, including the theoretical, experimental, and numerical aspects. It has been recognized that the electromechanical coupling property of dielectric materials can be utilized to drive deformations in functional devices in a more controllable and intelligent manner. This paper reviews recent advances in the theory of dielectrics, with specific attention focused on the theory proposed by Dorfmann and Ogden. Additionally, we provide examples illustrating the application of this theory to analyze the electromechanical deformations and the associated bifurcations in soft dielectrics. We compared the bifurcations in elastic and dielectric materials and found that only compressive bifurcation modes exist in elastic structures, whereas both compressive and tensile modes coexist in dielectric structures. We summarize two proposed ways to suppress and prevent the tensile bifurcations in dielectric materials. We hope that this literature survey will foster further advancements in the field of the electroelastic theory of soft dielectrics.

RESUMO

This paper focuses on the size-dependent free vibration and buckling behaviors of the axially functionally graded (AFG) graphene platelets (GPLs) reinforced nanocomposite microbeams subjected to axially varying loads (AVLs). With various axial grading patterns, the GPL nano-reinforcements are distributed throughout the polymer matrix against microbeam length, and the improved Halpin-Tsai micromechanics model and the rule of mixture are adopted to evaluate the effective material properties. Eigenvalue equations of the microbeams governing the static stability and vibration are derived based on the modified couple stress Euler-Bernoulli beam theory via the state-space method, and are analytically solved with the discrete equilong segment model. The effects of axial distribution patterns, weight fraction, and geometric parameters of GPLs, as well as different types of AVLs, on the size-dependent buckling load and natural frequency are scrutinized in detail. The results show that the synchronized axial distributions of GPLs and AVLs could improve the buckling resistance and natural frequency more powerfully.

RESUMO

Lewis acids of solid catalysts have been featured for a pivotal role in promoting various reactions. Regarding the oxidation protocol to remove formaldehyde, the inherent drawback of the best-studied MnO2 materials in acidic sites has eventually caused deficiency of active hydroxyls to sustain low-temperature activity. Herein, the cryptomelane-type MnO2 was targeted and it was tuned via incorporation of Zr metal, exhibiting great advances in not only the complete HCHO-to-CO2 degradation but also cycling performance. Zr species were existent in doping state in the MnO2 lattice, rendering lower crystallinity and breaking the regular growth of MnO2 crystallites, which thereby tripled surface area and created larger volume of smaller mesopores. Meantime, the local electronic properties of Mn atoms were also changed by Zr doping, i.e., more low-valence Mn species were formed due to the electron transfer from Zr to Mn. The results of infrared studies demonstrate the higher possession of Lewis acid sites on ZrMn, and this high degree of electrophilic agents favored the production of hydroxyl species. Furthermore, the reactivity of surface hydroxyls, as investigated by CO temperature programmed reduction and temperature programmed desorption of adsorbed O2, was obviously improved as well after Zr modification. It is speculated jointly with the characterizations of the post-reaction catalysts that the accelerated production of active hydroxyls helped rapidly convert formaldehyde into key intermediate-formate, which was then degraded into CO2, avoiding the side reaction path with undesired intermediate-hydrocarbonate-over the pristine MnO2, where active sites were blocked and formaldehyde oxidation was inhibited. Additionally, Zr decoration could stabilize Lewis acidity to be more resistant to heat degeneration, and this merit brought about advantageous thermal recyclability for cycled application.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: In this study, the feasibility of tubeless percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) for the treatment of upper urinary tract stones was investigated. METHODS: From January 2021 to December 2022, the clinical data of 273 patients who received tubeless PCNL (Group A) were studied. The control group includes clinical data from 302 patients (from January 2019 to October 2022) who received standard PCNL (Group B). The baseline characteristics were consistent between the two groups after using the propensity score matching (PSM) method. Compare the preoperative clinical characteristics, postoperative complications, residual stones, catheterization time, and hospital stay between the two groups. RESULTS: 146 pairs of patients were successfully paired through PSM. There was no statistically significant difference in operative time, blood leukocyte counts, haemoglobin decrease, fever, urinary extravasation, sepsis, bleeding, blood transfusion rates, embolism, and residual stones after surgery between the two groups; Postoperative day 1 and discharge day, the VAS pain score in Group A was significantly lower than that in Group B. The catheterization time and hospitalization time of patients in Group A were significantly lower than those in Group B. CONCLUSION: According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, selecting suitable patients for tubeless PCNL is safe and effective, while significantly alleviating pain and reducing catheterization time and hospital stay.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of ureteroscopic lithotripsy (URSL) in the treatment of proximal impacted ureter stones (PIUS) based on a new scoring standard in two medical centers. METHODS: The data of 45 patients with Complicated PIUS (total stone score ≥ 3) and 350 with Simple PIUS (total stone score < 3) who underwent URSL were collected in this retrospective study between January 2015 and June 2022. The definition and scoring standards for preoperative high-risk factors associated with stones included whether the diameter of the stone was > 2 cm, stone density was > 1000 HU, there was a history of lithotripsy, the degree of hydronephrosis was greater than moderate, and there was an infection. Scores for stones were then assigned (yes = 1, no = 0), and the Complicated stone case was defined as a total stone score ≥ 3; the Simple stone case was defined as a total stone score < 3. During the same period, 45 patients were selected from the patients with Simple stone cases as the control group, matched at a 1:1 ratio to index Complicated stone cases with regard to age, sex, and BMI. Perioperative data were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: All 90 operations were successfully completed. Compared to the Simple cases group, the surgical duration of the Complicated group was significantly longer (59.69 ± 28.06 min vs. 73.46 ± 27.12 min, p < 0.05), and stone-free rate (SFR) was significantly lower (88.89 vs. 68.9%, p < 0.05). There was a significant difference in complication rate between the two groups regarding Clavien grade I, II, or III complications (20.0% in Complicated cases group vs. 8.9% in Simple cases group, p = 0.037). As for the length of the hospital stay and the total treatment cost, the two groups have no difference. CONCLUSION: For Simple stone cases, URSL had a better SFR and higher surgical efficacy, whereas complicated stone cases had a high complication rate and long operation time. Thus, we suggest that URSL is the preferred choice for Simple stone cases rather than complicated stone cases.

RESUMO

Oxide supported noble metals are extensively investigated for ambient formaldehyde oxidation, and the Ag-CoOx complex is one promising combination in terms of cost and activity. Further, we previously observed that cooperating Ag with Li + greatly boosted formaldehyde degradation on CoOx. Yet, there is still room for improvement in removal efficiency, mineralization capacity and resistance to severe conditions. These objectives could be realized via strategically formulating the Li+ sites of Li-CoOx composite in this sister study. Three samples with Li + ---Co3+-O2- connections (L-CO), spinel Li+ (LCO-S) and layered Li+ (LCO-L) were obtained at low (300 °C), moderate (500 °C) and high (700 °C) temperatures, respectively. The specific Li+ positions and componential interaction were demonstrated by Hyperspectral imaging (HSI), XRD, SEM, TEM, HAADF mapping, UV-vis DRS and XPS. Moreover, the effect of reactive oxygen exposure on catalytic oxidation of formaldehyde (330-350 mg/m3) was disclosed through CO-TPR and O2-TPD. Compared with the LCO-S and LCO-L, L-CO exhibited dominant formaldehyde degradation due to the larger content of surface oxygen. After Ag decoration, the Li+---Co3+-O2- connections uniquely caused a strong binding of Ag species with catalyst host, which boosted the amount of reactive oxygen and finally resulted in an even higher elimination of ∼73% (CO2 yield = âˆ¼21%), 47% higher than that of the L-CO (CO2 yield = âˆ¼6%). But in contrast, the Ag@LCO-S only achieved ∼53% removal (CO2 yield = âˆ¼9%) and Ag modification was powerless in altering the inertness of LCO-L, demonstrating that the chemical environment of alkali metal is crucial to effectively tuning the catalyst activity. The advantage of Ag@L-CO in formaldehyde depollution was further reflected from its much better resistance to moisture and aromatic compound omnipresent in indoor air. For the first time, this study extended the understanding of the alkali-metal-promoted formaldehyde oxidation reaction to an in-depth level.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Ureteral stents are commonly used in urology but are frequently associated with hematuria, abdominal discomfort, urinary tract infection, stent displacement, and stent encrustation. Surface modification of ureteral stents is beneficial to solve the problem, and these can be divided into coated stents and drug-eluting stents according to the modification method. Coated stents can be divided into hydrophilic coatings, antibacterial coatings, and anti-encrustation coatings. Drug-eluting stents can be divided into antimicrobial drug-eluting, antispasmodic analgesic drug-eluting, anti-ureteral stricture drug-eluting, and anti-tumor drug-eluting. Surface modification of ureteral stents can not only reduce complications related to ureteral stents but also strengthen the treatment of certain urologic diseases, which has a high clinical application value. AREAS COVERED: This review focuses on highlighting and summarizing the latest research progress about surface modification of ureteral stents, ureteral stent development history, classification, functions, and future development prospects. EXPERT OPINION: The purpose of this article is to discuss surface modification of ureteral stents to reduce stent-related complications and potential research directions for the treatment of urinary tract tumors are also briefly discussed, to help guide further innovation in ureteral stent coatings, which contribute to the future progress of ureteral stents surface modification.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the correlation between hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) gene variation profile and clinical characteristics in Han nationality with HBV infection in Sichuan province. METHODS: The clinical data and HCC tissues were obtained from the enrolled patients. Whole exome sequencing and bioinformatics analysis were performed on formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded samples from HCC. Tumor mutational burden (TMB) was measured by an algorithm developed in-house. RESULTS: Sixteen high-frequency mutated genes with differential expressions were identified by WES. SMG1 gene variation could be positively correlated with satellite lesions. AMY2B and RGPD4 gene mutation seemed to have a greater chance of vascular invasion. The patients with TATDN1 variation have bigger diameters and greater chances of vascular and microvascular invasion (all P < 0.05). Univariate analysis indicated patients with gene TATDN1 variation had worse prognoses both in disease free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS). In addition, the enrichment analysis showed many pathways, including the cell cycle pathway, viral oncogene pathway, MAPK pathway, PI3K-AKT pathway, etc., may be associated with HCC. CONCLUSION: This study explores the gene variation profile of HCC patients with HBV infection in Han nationality of Sichuan Province for the first time, which confirmed the existence of some high-frequency mutated genes and the possibility that the gene variations are involved in the tumorigenesis of HCC through multiple signal pathways. Also, patients with TATDN1 wild type showed a trend of better prognosis both in DFS and OS.

RESUMO

Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is a lethal cancer, and biomarkers for exact diagnosis and predicting prognosis are urgently needed. The present study aimed to determine the roles of distal-less homeobox (DLX) family genes in ccRCC. The clinicopathological and mRNA expression data of patients with ccRCC were derived from The Cancer Genome Atlas database. Kaplan-Meier curves, univariate and multivariate Cox hazard analyses, in addition to receiver operator characteristic curves were used to evaluate the prognostic and diagnostic values. A single-sample gene set enrichment analysis was used to quantify the infiltration levels of immune cells. Reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and immunohistochemistry were conducted to examine the expression levels of DLX4 in tumor and adjacent tissue; the results demonstrated that DLX4 was highly expressed in ccRCC tissues compared with normal renal tissues. Furthermore, DLX4 expression was associated with tumor stage and grade. High proportions of males, advanced pathological stage, higher tumor grade and T, N and M stage were also observed in the high DLX4 expression group. Patients with the high DLX4 expression levels tended to have lower overall survival and disease-free survival rates compared with those with low DLX4 expression. DLX4 expression also showed favorable diagnostic efficiency in ccRCC patients. Based on functional enrichment analysis, cell cycle related pathways, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, glycolysis and inflammatory response were associated with the expression levels of DLX4. Furthermore, DLX4 expression was revealed to be associated with tumor immunosuppressive microenvironment. Overall, the expression level of DLX4 may be considered a novel prognostic indicator in ccRCC and a specific diagnostic biomarker for patients with ccRCC.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: In this study, the feasibility of a no bladder irrigation strategy after transurethral holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) was studied. METHODS: From August 2021 to December 2021, the clinical data of 62 patients who received no bladder irrigation after HoLEP (Group A) were studied. The control group contained the clinical data of 150 patients in the same therapy group (from January 2021 to July 2021) who received continuous bladder irrigation after HoLEP (Group B). The baseline was consistent after using the propensity score matching (PSM) method, and the differences between groups were compared. The pre- and postoperative complications, international prostate symptom score (IPSS), quality of life (QOL), maximum urinary flow rate (Qmax), and postvoid residual urine (PVR) of the two groups were compared, accompanied by a follow-up evaluation of surgical effects. RESULTS: 47 pairs of patients were successfully matched by PSM. There was no statistically significant difference in the intraoperative conditions and the incidence of early postoperative complications between the two groups (P > 0.05). Before and one month after the surgery, significant differences were also found in the IPSS, QOL, Qmax, and PVR of both groups (P < 0.05). Within one month after the surgery, no statistically significant difference was found in IPSS, QOL, Qmax, PVR, or the incidence of early postoperative complications between the two groups (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: For appropriately selected patients according to the exclusion criteria, the no bladder irrigation strategy after HoLEP for BPH is safe and effective.

RESUMO

Motivated by scenarios where data is used for diverse prediction tasks, we study whether fair representation can be used to guarantee fairness for unknown tasks and for multiple fairness notions. We consider seven group fairness notions that cover the concepts of independence, separation, and calibration. Against the backdrop of the fairness impossibility results, we explore approximate fairness. We prove that, although fair representation might not guarantee fairness for all prediction tasks, it does guarantee fairness for an important subset of tasks-the tasks for which the representation is discriminative. Specifically, all seven group fairness notions are linearly controlled by fairness and discriminativeness of the representation. When an incompatibility exists between different fairness notions, fair and discriminative representation hits the sweet spot that approximately satisfies all notions. Motivated by our theoretical findings, we propose to learn both fair and discriminative representations using pretext loss which self-supervises learning, and Maximum Mean Discrepancy as a fair regularizer. Experiments on tabular, image, and face datasets show that using the learned representation, downstream predictions that we are unaware of when learning the representation indeed become fairer. The fairness guarantees computed from our theoretical results are all valid.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the efficacy of catheterization before transperineal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy in reducing risk of urethrorrhagia. Currently, transperineal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy (TPPB) is one of the most commonly used measures to help diagnose prostate cancer. However, whether the retention of catheterization before transperineal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy is associated with the reduced risk of urethrorrhagia remains uncertain. METHODS: A cohort study was conducted in our hospital from January 2021 to September 2021. This study included 93 patients who participated in transperineal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy. We compared the risk of urethrorrhagia in patients who underwent indwelling catheterization before biopsy and those who did that after biopsy, and performed an unadjusted analysis. We also analyzed the use of related confounding factors to limit the cohort of men, and applied propensity-score adjustment to control potential confounders. Analyses that restricted the cohort men with the related confounding factors and that used propensity-score adjustment to control for potential confounders. RESULTS: A total of 93 men were recruited in the cohort study, and the numbers of patients in group 1 and group 2 were 64 and 29, respectively. There were 34 patients (53.1%) of urethrorrhagia in group 1, and 22 patients (75.8%) of urethrorrhagia in group 2. This was a significant difference between the 2 groups (P = .008). After adjusting for correlative factors, the preoperative catheterization is still a protective factor for postoperative urethrorrhagia through multivariate multiple piecewise linear regression analysis. CONCLUSION: The result of this cohort study suggested that preoperative catheterization can significantly reduce the risk of urethrorrhagia.

RESUMO

Objective: To determine whether the visceral adiposity index (VAI) was linked to the risk of kidney stones (KS) in the representative U.S. adults. Methods: We investigated 59842 participants who joined the 2007-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The association between the visceral adiposity index (VAI) and KS was identified by logistic regression analysis. Meanwhile, the subgroup analysis as well as the calculation of dose-response curves were also utilized to identify sensitive groups. Results: Data from 29384 participants were available, including 2781 self-reported ever experiencing KS diseases. Overall, the VAI was 0.74 (0.70, 0.78) in the KS group, while 0.55 (0.52, 0.57) in the control group. After adjusting for confounders, the prevalence of KS increased by 13% for each unit of VAI increment (OR = 1.13, 95% CI: 1.08, 1.19). Moreover, a linear relationship was found between the VAI and the prevalence of KS. By subgroup analysis, we found that a positive correlation between VAI and the risk of KS both in male (OR=1.14, 95%CI:1.07, 1.22) and female (OR=1.14, 95%CI:1.05, 1.24), White (OR=1.20, 95%CI:1.11, 1.28) and other race, all aged subgroups, nonhypertensive (OR=1.06, 95%CI:1.08, 1.25) and nondiabetic subgroups (OR=1.14, 95%CI:1.07, 1.21). Conclusions: Elevated VAI was strongly associated with KS in representative U.S. adults, which may be a promising indicator for the risk of kidney stones.

RESUMO

Environmental pollution sources may play a key role in the pathogenesis of nephrolithiasis, although the link between environmental aldehyde exposure and the incidence of nephrolithiasis is unclear. The researchers in this study set out to see whether adult kidney stone formation was linked to environmental aldehydes. We examined data from 10,175 adult participants over the age of 20 who took part in the 2013-2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), which was a cross-sectional research. A logistic regression model was employed in this work to examine the relationship between aldehyde exposure and kidney stones, machine learning was utilized to predict the connection of different parameters with the development of kidney stones, and a subgroup analysis was performed to identify sensitive groups. After controlling for all confounding variables, the results revealed that isopentanaldehyde, benzaldehyde, and hexanaldehyde were risk factors for kidney stone formation, with odds ratio (OR) of 2.47, 1.12, and 1.17, respectively, and 95 percent confidence intervals (95% CI) of 1.15-5.34, 1.02-1.22, and 1.00-1.36. Kidney stones may be a result of long-term exposure to aldehydes, which may cause them to form. Environmental pollution-related aldehyde exposure might give a novel notion and direction for future study into the process of kidney stone production, even if the cause is yet unknown.

RESUMO

Objectives: We aimed to evaluate the relationship between the proportion of Android to Gynoid ratio and the incidence of kidney stones among US adults. Methods: Participants aged 20-59 years from the 2011-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database were selected to assess the association between Android to Gynoid ratio and kidney stone prevalence using logistic regression analysis, subgroup analysis and calculation of dose-response curves. Results: This study ultimately included 10858 participants, of whom 859 self-reported a history of kidney stones. And after adjusting for all confounders, an increased Android to Gynoid ratio was associated with an increased prevalence of kidney stones (OR=2.75, 95% CI:1.62-4.88). And subgroup analysis showed an increased prevalence of kidney stones in women (OR=3.55, 95% CI: 1.54-8.22), non-diabetic (OR=2.59, 95% CI: 1.45-4.60), 60 > age ≥ 40 years (OR=3.51, 95% CI: 1.83-6.71), Mexican-American (OR=4.35, 95% CI: 1.40- 13.53) and white (OR=3.86, 95% CI: 1.82-8.18) groups, there was a significant positive association between A/G ratio and kidney stones. In contrast, in the hypertensive subgroup, the A/G ratio was associated with kidney stones in all groups. Conclusions: Higher Android to Gynoid ratio is associated with a high prevalence of kidney stone disease.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Paragangliomas and extra-adrenal pheochromocytomas are uncommon neuroendocrine tumors with ubiquitous distribution. Malignant paraganglioma is a relatively rare entity. We report the treatment and pathological characteristics of a patient with malignant paraganglioma, and summarize the latest advances in the treatment of malignant paraganglioma based on a literature review. CASE SUMMARY: A 45-year-old Chinese woman presented to the hospital due to pain in the waist (right side) and right buttock, and was diagnosed as malignant paraganglioma after the placement of ureteral stent, implantation of ileus catheter, and transvaginal removal of the vaginal mass. After relief of intestinal obstruction, the patient received intravenous chemotherapy and peritoneal perfusion chemotherapy. Although her pelvic mass disease was stable, she developed multiple liver metastases and bone metastases. Due to the development of spinal cord compression, she underwent orthopedic surgery, followed by radiotherapy, and molecular targeted therapy with apatinib, but with poor disease control. CONCLUSION: Clinical management of paraganglioma is challenging for endocrinologists and oncologists. Prospective studies are required to develop standardized therapeutic strategies for malignant paragangliomas.

RESUMO

Objective: To observe the antioxidative effects of N-(9,10-anthraquinone-2-ylcarbonyl) xanthine oxidase inhibitors (NAY) in vitro and in vivo models of hyperuricemia and explore the mechanism. Methods: A classical experimental method of acute toxicity and a chronic toxicity test were used to compare the toxic effects of different doses of NAY in mice. The hyperuricemia mouse model was established by gavage of potassium oxonate in vivo. After treatment with different doses of NAY (low dose: 10 mg/kg, medium dose: 20 mg/kg, and high dose: 40 mg/kg) and allopurinol (positive drug, 10 mg/kg), observe the levels of uric acid (UA), creatinine (CRE), and urea nitrogen (BUN) in urine and serum, respectively, and detect the activities of xanthine oxidase in the liver. The hyperuricemia cell model was induced by adenosine and xanthine oxidase in vitro. The cells were given different doses of NAY (50, 100, and 200 µmol/L) and allopurinol (100 µmol/L). Then the culture supernatant UA level of the medium was measured. The next step was to detect the xanthine oxidase activity in the liver and AML12 cells, and the levels of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß), and NOD-like receptor thermal protein domain-associated protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammatory factors in the kidney and serum of mice. Western blot was used to detect xanthine oxidase protein expression in mouse liver tissue and AML12 cells, ASC, Caspase-1, NLRP3, GLUT9, OAT1, and OAT3 protein expression in mouse kidney tissue and HK-2 cells. Hematoxylin-eosin staining was used to stain the liver and kidney tissues of mice and observe the tissue lesions. Results: NAY had little effect on blood routine and biochemical indexes of mice, but significantly reduced the serum UA level. NAY significantly reduced the level of UA in hyperuricemia mice and cells by inhibiting xanthine oxidase activity and reduced the levels of TNF-α, IL-6, and other inflammatory factors in serum and kidney of mice. NAY can inhibit inflammation by inhibiting the NLRP3 pathway. In addition, NAY can downregulate GLUT9 protein expression and upregulate OAT1 and OAT3 protein expression to reduce the UA level by promoting UA excretion and inhibiting UA reabsorption. Conclusion: These findings suggested that NAY produced dual hypouricemic actions. On the one hand, it can inhibit the formation of UA by inhibiting xanthine oxidase inhibitors activity, and on the other hand, it can promote the excretion of UA by regulating the UA transporter. It provides new ideas for the development of hyperuricemia drugs in the future.

Myocardial inhibition is the main cause of death in patients with sepsis. In recent years, methodological differences in the diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of septic myocardial depression have been observed, and how to objectively and accurately evaluate the degree of myocardial depression and the timing of treatment strategies have generally been the focus of this area of research. Based on the relevant research at home and abroad, the current review summarizes the clinical characteristics, methodological diagnosis, and symptomatic treatment of septic myocardial depression. The aim of doing so is to provide a reference for the early identification and treatment of patients with sepsis and myocardial depression.

RESUMO

Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine whether the METS-IR index is associated with kidney stones in American adults. Method: Participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database from 2007-2018 were selected for logistic regression analysis, subgroup analyses, and the calculation of dose-response curves to assess the association between the METS-IR index and the incidence of kidney stones. Result: This study enrolled 30,612 adults aged >20 years, 2901 of whom self-reported having had kidney stones in the past. And, after controlling for potential confounders, each unit increase in the METS-IR index was linked with a 1.23 percent rise in kidney stone incidence (OR= 1.0123, 95% CI: 1.0092 - 1.0155), with stratified analysis indicating that this was true in all subgroups. Between all groups, an elevated METS-IR index was related to kidney stone formation, and the dose-response curve revealed a positive non-linear connection between METS-IR index and kidney stone risk, with a threshold effect analysis revealing an inflection point value of 50.8314. Conclusion: Higher METS-IR index is associated with the occurrence of kidney stones, and while no causative association can be shown, this is cause for concern.
