RESUMO

Objective: Developing and assessing a risk prediction model of postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), and aims to provide a reference for the prediction and prevention. Design: A retrospective case-control study. Setting: Three major urban teaching and university hospitals and tertiary referral centers. Participants: consecutive patients undergoing CABG. Interventions: The study was retrospective and no interventions were administered to patients. Measurements and main results: In the study, the overall new-onset POAF prevalence was approximately 28%. A prediction model for POAF with nine significant indicators was developed, and identified new predictors of POAF: left ventricular end diastolic diameter (LVEDD), intraoperative defibrillation, and intraoperative temporary pacing lead implantation. The model had good discrimination in both the derivation and validation cohorts, with the area under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUCs) of 0.621 (95% CI = 0.602-0.640) and 0.616 (95% CI = 0.579-0.651), respectively, and showed good calibration. Compared with CHA2DS2-VASc, HATCH score, and the prediction model of POAF after CABG developed based on a small sample of clinical data from a single center in China, the model in this study had better discrimination. Conclusion: We have developed and validated a new prediction model of POAF after CABG using multicenter data that can be used in the clinic for early identification of high-risk patients of POAF, and to help effectively prevent POAF in postoperative patients.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to analyze the association between preoperative LDL/HDL ratio and new-onset atrial fibrillation (AF) after on-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (on-pump CABG), evaluate the clinic value of preoperative LDL/HDL ratio to identify postoperative rhythm. METHODS: A retrospective study of consecutive patients (n = 2052) who underwent on-pump CABG at TEDA International Cardiovascular Hospital (Tianjin, China), from June 1, 2020, to December 30, 2021, was conducted. The association between preoperative LDL/HDL and new-onset POAF was analyzed by Lowess curve and univariate logistic regression. The receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) and area under the curve (AUC) were used to evaluate the identification capacity of preoperative LDL/HDL level for new-onset POAF. RESULTS: In studied populations, the incidence of new-onset POAF was about 29.24%. The lowess curve showed that the association between preoperative LDL/HDL ratio and POAF after on-pump CABG was similar to a linear relationship. With the increasement of preoperative LDL/HDL ratio, the incidence of POAF increased simultaneously. ROC analysis showed that preoperative LDL/HDL ratio could identify postoperative arrhythmia after on-pump CABG (AUC = 0.569,95% CI = 0.529-0.608, P = 0.006) among female patients, the best preoperative LDL/HDL ratio cutoff of 2.11, which was considered a predictive factor of incident POAF, showed a sensitivity of 83.60% (95% CI = 0.775-0.886) and a specificity of 30.02% (95% CI = 0.257-0.346). CONCLUSION: Preoperative LDL/HDL ratio is associated with new-onset POAF, but there is a difference in different sex. Preoperative LDL/HDL level can help to identify postoperative rhythm in females.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: An acute animal experiment was performed to observe factors influencing the functional status of the aortic valve functional status after continuous-flow left ventricular assist device (CF-LVAD) implantation in an ovine model, and a physiologic predictive model was established. METHODS: A CF-LVAD model was established in Small Tail Han sheep. The initial heart rate (HR) was set to 60 beats/min, and grouping was performed at an interval of 20 beats/min. In all groups, the pump speed was started from 2000 rpm and was gradually increased by 50-100 rpm. A multi-channel physiological recorder recorded the HR, aortic pressure, central venous pressure, and left ventricular systolic pressure (LVSP). A double-channel ultrasonic flowmeter was used to obtain real-time artificial vascular blood flow (ABF). A color Doppler ultrasound device was applied to assess the aortic valve functional status. Multivariate dichotomous logistic regression was used to screen significant variables for predicting the functional status of the aortic valve. RESULTS: Observational studies showed that ABF and the risk of aortic valve closure (AVC) were positively correlated with pump speed at the same HR. Meanwhile, the mean arterial pressure (MAP) was unaltered or slightly increased with increased pump speed. When the pump speed was constant, an increase in HR was associated with a decrease in the size of the aortic valve opening. This phenomenon was accompanied by an initial transient increase in the ABF and MAP, which subsequently decreased. Statistical analysis showed that the AVC was associated with increased pump speed (OR = 1.02, 95% CI = 1.01-1.04, p = 0.001), decreased LVSP (OR = 0.95, 95% CI = 0.91-0.98, p = 0.003), and decreased pulse pressure (OR = 0.82, 95% CI = 0.68-0.96, p = 0.026). ABF or MAP was negatively associated with the risk of AVC (OR < 1). The prediction model of AVC after CF-LVAD implantation exhibited good differentiation (AUC = 0.973, 95% CI = 0.978-0.995) and calibration performance (Hosmer-Lemeshow χ2  = 9.834, p = 0.277 > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The pump speed, LVSP, ABF, MAP, and pulse pressure are significant predictors of the risk of AVC. Predictive models built from these predictors yielded good performance in differentiating aortic valve opening and closure after CF-LVAD implantation.

RESUMO

Objectives: This study attempted to explore the hemodynamics and potential mechanisms driving pulmonary circulation in status of ventricular fibrillation (VF) following continuous-flow left ventricular assist device (CF-LVAD) implantation. Methods: An ovine CF-LVAD model was built in small-tailed Han sheep, with the pump speed set as 2,400 rpm. VF was induced following ventricular tachycardia using a temporary pacemaker probe to stimulate the right and left ventricular free walls. The central venous pressure (CVP), pump flow (PF), pulmonary artery flow (PAF) and other major indicators were observed and recorded after VF. Results: Low-flow systemic and pulmonary circulation could be sustained for 60 min under VF with sinus atrial rhythm after CF-LVAD implantation. The CVP gradually increased. The mean PF declined from 1.80 to 1.20 L/min, and the mean PAF decreased from 1.62 L/min to 0.87 L/min. Under VF with atrial fibrillation, the systemic and pulmonary circulation couldn't be sustained. The CVP jumped from the 5 mmHg baseline to 12 mmHg, the mean PF rapidly decreased from 3.45 L/min to 0.79 L/min, and the PAF declined from 3.94 L/min to 0.77 L/min. Conclusion: The atrial rhythm and function might be essential for the circulation maintenance in patients with VF after CF-LVAD implantation.

RESUMO

Second-harmonic generation (SHG) in plasmonic nanostructures has been investigated for decades due to their wide applications in photonic circuit, quantum optics and biosensing. Development of large-scale, uniform, and efficient plasmonic nanostructure system with tunable modes is desirable for their feasible utilizations. Herein, we design an efficient inch-scale SHG source by a solution-processed method instead of traditional high-cost processes. By assembling the gold nanoparticles with the porous anodic alumina templates, multiresonance in both visible and near-infrared regions can be achieved in hexagonal plasmonic nanostructure arrays, which provide strong electric field enhancement at the gap region. Polarization-independence SHG radiation has been realized owing to the in-plane isotropic characteristic of assembled unit. The tilt-angle dependent and angle-resolved measurement showed that wide-angle nonlinear response is achieved in our device because of the gap geometry of ball-in-bowl nanostructure with nonlinear emission electric dipoles distributed on the concave surface, which makes it competitive in practical applications. Our progress not only makes it possible to produce uniform inch-scale nonlinear arrays through low-cost solution process; and also advances the understanding of the SHG radiation in plasmonic nanostructures.

RESUMO

Network analysis has contributed to studies of the interactions of microorganisms and the identification of key populations. However, such analysis has rarely been conducted in the study of reservoir bacterioplankton communities. This study investigated the bacterioplankton community composition in the surface water of the Danjiangkou Reservoir using the Illumina MiSeq sequencing platform. We observed that the bacterioplankton community primarily consisted of 27 phyla and 336 genera, including Actinobacteria, Proteobacteria, and Bacteroidetes, demonstrating the richness of the community composition. Redundancy analysis of the bacterioplankton communities and environmental variables showed that the total nitrogen (TN), pH, chemical oxygen demand (COD), and permanganate index (CODMn) were important factors affecting the bacterioplankton distribution. Network analysis was performed using the relative abundances of bacterioplankton based on the phylogenetic molecular ecological network (pMEN) method. The connectivity of node i within modules (Zi), the connectivity of node i among modules (Pi), and the number of key bacteria were high at the Taizishan and Heijizui sites, which were associated with higher TN contents than at the other sites. Among the physicochemical properties of water, TN, ammonia nitrogen (NH4-N), pH, COD, and dissolved oxygen (DO) might have great influences on the functional units of the bacterial communities in bacterioplankton molecular networks. This study improves the understanding of the structure and function of bacterioplankton communities in the Danjiangkou Reservoir.

RESUMO

Scrophularia ningpoensis has exhibited a variety of biological activities and been used as a pharmaceutical product for the treatment of inflammatory ailment, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and so on. Harpagoside (HAR) is considerer as a main bioactive compound in this plant. Serum albumin has important physiological roles in transportation, distribution and metabolism of many endogenous and exogenous substances in body. It is of great significance to study the interaction mechanism between HAR and bovine serum albumin (BSA). The mechanism of interaction between HAR and BSA was investigated using 2D and 3D fluorescence, synchronous florescence, ultraviolet spectroscopy and molecular docking. According to the analysis of fluorescence spectra, HAR could strongly quench the fluorescence of BSA, and the static quenching process indicated that the decrease in the quenching constant was observed with the increase in temperature. The magnitude of binding constants (KA) was more than 1×105 L·mol⁻¹, and the number of binding sites(n) was approximate to 1. The thermodynamic parameters were calculated through analysis of fluorescence data with Stern-Volmer and Van't Hoff equation. The calculated enthalpy change (ΔH) and entropy change (ΔS) implied that the main interaction forces of HAR with BSA were the bonding interaction between van der Waals forces and hydrogen. The negative values of energy (ΔG) demonstrated that the binding of HAR with BSA was a spontaneous and exothermic process. The binding distance(r) between HAR and BSA was calculated to be about 2.80 nm based on the theory of Frster's non-radiation energy transfer, which indicated that energy is likely to be transfer from BSA to HAR. Both synchronous and 3D florescence spectroscopy clearly revealed that the microenvironment and conformation of BSA changed during the binding interaction between HAR and BSA. The molecular docking analysis revealed HAR is more inclined to BSA and human serum albumin (HSA) in subdomain ⅡA (Sudlow's site I). This study will provide valuable information for understanding the action mechanism of HAR.

RESUMO

The aim of the present study was to investigate the PAQR3 gene expression and its methylation level in colorectal cancer tissues, as well as the association with colorectal cancer clinical data. In total, 54 cases of colorectal cancer tissue samples and normal adjacent tissue samples were collected between June, 2013 and July, 2014. RT-PCR and western blot analysis were used to detect the mRNA and protein levels of PAQR3 in colorectal samples, respectively. MSP was used to detect the methylation level of PAQR3 gene in colorectal samples, which was compared with colorectal data. The results showed that a decreased expression level of PAQR3 mRNA in colorectal cancer tissues and the expression reduction rate was 57.4% (31/54). Similarly, the expression level of PAQR3 protein was reduced in cancer tissues, and the reduction rate was 46.3% (25/54), while the protein expression reduction rate in cancer adjacent tissue was 5.6% (3/54), and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Furthermore, the methylation rates of PAQR3 in cancer tissues and cancer adjacent tissues were 33.3% (18/54) and 5.6% (3/54), respectively. In addition, PAQR3 mRNA and protein levels in colorectal cancer tissues were associated with the differentiation degree, lymphatic metastasis and tumor infiltration depth. The methylation level of PAQR3 was associated with age, differentiated degree, lymphatic metastasis and tumor infiltration depth. In conclusion, the expression of PAQR3 mRNA and protein in colorectal cancer was reduced and methylation of PAQR3 occurred. Although the PAQR3 mRNA and protein levels were not associated with gender, age or the location of tumor, there was an association with differentiation degree, lymphatic metastasis and tumor infiltration depth. In addition, the methylation level of PAQR3 was not correlated with gender or tumor location, but was correlated with age, differentiation degree, lymphatic metastasis and tumor infiltration depth.

RESUMO

AIM: To determine the expression and significance of filamin A (FLNa) in colorectal adenocarcinoma tissue. METHODS: The expression of FLNa in 46 colorectal cancer tissues and normal tissues was detected by immunohistochemistry, reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western blotting, and its relationship with clinical parameters and prognosis was analyzed. RESULTS: The positive expression of FLNa in cancer tissues was lower than that in normal mucosa, and the difference was statistically significant. The expression of FLNa correlated with liver metastasis, lymph node metastasis and rectal invasion depth, regardless of sex, age, tumor location, tumor size, gross shape and histological type of colorectal carcinoma. Multivariate analysis showed that FLNa was an independent risk factor for postoperative survival of patients with colorectal adenocarcinoma. Moreover, survival analysis showed that the expression level of FLNa was closely related with survival of patients with colorectal adenocarcinoma. The results of RT-PCR and Western blotting were consistent with those of immunohistochemistry. CONCLUSION: FLNa showed low expression in colorectal adenocarcinoma, high correlation with the incidence and development of colorectal cancer, and was considered an indicator of prognosis.

RESUMO

Root observation tubes (minirhizotrons) were used to study the effects of nitrogen addition on the fine root growth of Fraxinus mandshurica and Larix gmelinii, with the correlations between the fine root lifespan and nitrogen availability analyzed. After the nitrogen addition, the fine root number of F. mandshurica and L. gmelinii had a decreasing trend, but the fine root diameter became larger and the branching ratio decreased. The survival rate of F. mandshurica fine roots increased, and the median root lifespan prolonged 105 days, compared with the control. No significant responses to the nitrogen addition were observed in the survival rate of L. gmelinii fine roots. The first-order fine roots with smaller diameter, the roots in surface soil (0-15 cm), and the fine roots newly born in spring and summer were vulnerable to extend their lifespan by nitrogen addition, suggesting that the fine roots with higher physiological activity were easily to be affected by nitrogen fertilization.

RESUMO

Anatase TiO2 films were successfully prepared on foam nickel substrates by sol-gel technique using tetrabutyl titanate as precursor. The characteristics of the TiO2 films were investigated by XPS, XRD, FE-SEM, TEM and UV-Vis absorption spectra. The photocatalytic activities of TiO2 films were investigated by photocatalytic degradation reactions of gaseous acetaldehyde, an indoor pollutant, under ultraviolet light irradiation. It was found that Ni2+ doping into Ti02 films due to the foam nickel substrates resulted in the extension of absorption edges of TiO2 films from UV region to visible light region. The pre-heating for foam nickel substrates resulted in the formation of NiO layer, which prevented effectively the injection of photogenerated electrons from TiO2 films to metal nickel. The TiO2 films displayed high photocatalytic activity for the degradation of acetaldehyde, and were enhanced by calcining the substrates and coating TiO2 films repeatedly. The high activity was mainly attributed to the improvement of the characteristics of substrate surface and the increase of active sites on photocatalyst.

RESUMO

With 16 years old Larix kaempfersoil plantation in the mountainous area of eastern Liaoning Province as test object, this paper studied the effects of fertilization on the fine root diameter, root length, and specific root length (SRL) of the first to fifth order roots. The results showed that with ascending root orders, the mean fine root diameter and root length increased, while the SRL decreased significantly. Among the five order roots, the first order roots were the thinnest in diameter, the shortest in length, and the highest in SRL, but the fifth order roots were in reverse. The variance coefficients for the fine root diameter, root length, and SRL increased from the first to the fifth order roots. Except for the first order roots, soil depth had no significant influence on the fine root diameter, root length and SRL. Fertilization affected the fine root diameter, root length, and SRL of the first and the second order roots significantly, hut had little effects on other order roots. N fertilization decreased the mean diameter of the first and the second order roots significantly, and N or N + P fertilization decreased the mean length of the first order roots in surface soil (0-10 cm) significantly. The SRL of the first order roots in surface soil increased significantly under N fertilization.

RESUMO

With 16 years old Larix kaempferi plantation in eastern mountain area of Liaoning Province as test object, this paper studied its total fine root biomass, fine root biomass at different soil depths, and biomass of different root orders under effects of fertilization. The results showed that compared with no fertilization, applying N decreased the total fine root biomass significantly (P < 0.05), while the difference between applying P and N + P was not significant. The fine root biomass in top soil (0-10 cm) was significantly (P < 0.01) higher than that in subsoil (10-20 cm), and in all treatments, it accounted for 64%-73% of the total. The effects of fertilization on fine root biomass varied with soil depth and root orders. In top soil, N fertilization decreased five orders (except the second order) fine root biomass significantly (P < 0.05), while P and P + N fertilization had no significant effects (P > 0.05), except the fifth order root in treatment P, and the second order root in treatment P + N (P < 0.05). In subsoil, treatments N and P had no effects on five orders fine root biomass (P > 0.05), while treatment N + P increased the first order fine root biomass significantly (P < 0.05).

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the prevalence of domestic violence (DV) in Hunan. METHODS: Using a multi-stage sampling strategy, 9451 households involving 32 720 persons in urban, rural and industrial areas in Hunan, China were studied. Multiform clue investigation and face-to-face interviews were combined to investigate the prevalence of DV. RESULTS: A lifetime prevalence of DV was reported by 1533 households (16.2%). A total of 1098 households (11.6%) reported at least one incident of DV in the previous year. Both lifetime and 12-month prevalence of DV varied significantly by geographic setting (P < 0.01). The lifetime prevalence abuse rates were: spousal 10.2%, child abuse 7.8%, and elder 1.5%. With regard to household structure, the lifetime prevalence of DV was highest among those remarried families (21.0%), followed by married couples with one child and extended families with several generations living together (20.1% and 20.0%, respectively). The highest rate of spousal abuse was found among remarried families (14.7%), while child and elder abuse was most prevalent among extended families (12.4% and 4.1%, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: The findings suggested that although the prevalence of DV in Hunan was modest compared to Western countries, it remained a serious public health problem affecting over 1 in 10 households. Furthermore, the prevalence of various types of DV varied by geographic setting and family structure, suggesting that diverse geographic setting and family constellations carried different risk and protective features.
