RESUMO

Oligomeric-brush chains of helical lanthanide (Ln) complexes retain their structural and luminescent behavior after coating onto magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) consisting of Fe3O4 covered with silicate. It is one of the type of bifunctional NPs exhibiting luminescence of Ln and superparamagnetism of Fe3O4. In comparison to a simple monolayer of complexes adsorbed on a modified surface, a layer made of luminescent chains allowed us to obtain a more intensive red/green luminescence originating from Eu3+/Tb3+ ions, and at the same time, no visible increase in particle size (compared to Fe3O4@silica particles) was observed. The luminescent properties of the Tb3+ complex were altered by MNPs; the decrease of the luminescence was not as large as expected, the excitation spectrum changed significantly, and the average luminescence lifetime was much longer at room temperature. Surprisingly, this phenomenon was not observed at 77 K and also did not occur for the Eu3+ complexes. The possibility to stack building blocks in a chain using complexes of different lanthanide ions can be used to design novel multifunctional nanosystems.

RESUMO

Since the high transition temperature (High-Tc) superconductivity was discovered in the series of materials containing iron (Fe), their potential for the applications has been extensively scrutinized. In particular, a lot of effort has been made in achieving the high current-carrying ability by revealing the vortex pinning behavior. Here, we report on the critical current density (Jc) for the pristine Ba1-xKxFe2As2 single crystals with various K concentrations (0.25 ≤ x ≤ 0.52) determined by the magnetization hysteresis loop measurements. The x-dependence of Jc is characterized by a spike-like peak at x ~ 0.30, which corresponds to the under-doped region. This behavior is distinct from a moderate Tc dome with a broad maximum spanning from x ~ 0.3 to 0.5. For the under-doped samples, with increasing magnetic field (H), a second magnetization peak in Jc is observed, whereas for the optimally- and over-doped samples, Jc monotonically decreases with H. This result emphasizes that fine tuning of doping composition is important to obtain strong flux pinning. The origin of the characteristic doping dependence of Jc is discussed in connection with the orthorhombic phase domain boundary, as well as the chemical inhomogeneity introduced by the dopant substitutions.

RESUMO

A new iron-based superconductor, (Ca,Pr)FeAs2, was discovered. Plate-like crystals of the new phase were obtained, and its crystal structure was investigated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The structure was identified as the monoclinic system with space group P21/m, composed of two Ca(Pr) planes, Fe2As2 layers, and As2 zigzag chain layers. Plate-like crystals of the new phase showed superconductivity, with a T(c) of ~20 K in both magnetization and resistivity measurements.

RESUMO

The magnetic anisotropies and easy axes of magnetization at room temperature were determined, and the effects of rare-earth (RE) ions were clarified for RE-based cuprates, RE-doped bismuth-based cuprates and RE-doped Bi-based cobaltite regarding the grain orientation by magnetic field. The easy axis, determined from the powder orientation in a static field of 10 T, depended qualitatively on the type of RE ion for all three systems. On the other hand, the magnetization measurement of the c-axis oriented powders, aligned in static or rotating fields, revealed that the type of RE ion strongly affected not only the directions of the easy axis but also the absolute value of magnetic anisotropy, and an appropriate choice of RE ion is required to minimize the magnetic field used for grain orientation. We also studied the possibility of triaxial grain orientation in high-critical-temperature superconductors by a modulated oval magnetic field. In particular, triaxial orientation was attempted in a high-oxygen-pressure phase of orthorhombic RE-based cuprates Y2Ba4Cu7O y . Although the experiment was performed in epoxy resin, which is not practical, in-plane alignment within 3° was achieved.
