RESUMO

Neural respiratory drive (NRD) is measured using a non-invasive recording of respiratory electromyographic signal. The parasternal intercostal muscle can assess the imbalance between the load and capacity of respiratory muscles and presents a similar pattern to diaphragmatic activity. We aimed to analyze the neural respiratory drive in seventeen individuals with hypertension during quite breathing and maximal voluntary ventilation (MVV) (103.9 ± 5.89 vs. 122.6 ± 5 l/min) in comparison with seventeen healthy subjects (46.5 ± 2.5 vs. 46.4 ± 2.4 years), respectively. The study protocol was composed of quite breathing during five minutes, maximum inspiratory pressure followed by maximal ventilatory ventilation (MVV) was recorded once for 15 seconds. Anthropometric measurements were collected, weight, height, waist, hip, and calf circumferences, waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), BMI, and conicity index (CI). Differences between groups were analyzed using the unpaired t-test or Mann-Whitney test to determine the difference between groups and moments. A significance level of 5% (p<0,05) was adopted for all statistical analyses. The group of individuals with hypertension presented higher values when compared to the healthy group for neural respiratory drive (EMGpara% 17.9±1.3 vs. 13.1±0.8, p = 0.0006) and neural respiratory drive index (NRDi (AU) 320±25 vs. 205.7±15,p = 0.0004) during quiet breathing and maximal ventilatory ventilation (EMGpara% 29.3±2.7 vs. 18.3±0.8, p = 0.000, NRDi (AU) 3140±259.4 vs. 1886±73.1,p<0.0001), respectively. In conclusion, individuals with hypertension presented higher NRD during quiet breathing and maximal ventilatory ventilation when compared to healthy individuals.

Background/Aim: The parotid is the largest salivary gland and is located anteriorly to the sternocleidomastoid muscle and laterally to the ramus of the mandible. Neoplasms in this gland are relatively rare, with 80% being benign and 20% malignant, primarily represented by mucoepidermoid carcinoma. In the head and neck region, lymphoepithelial carcinoma (LEC) accounts for 0.4% of malignant salivary gland tumors. Case Report: A 35-year-old man with no previous comorbidities was admitted to a Head and Neck Surgery Specialty Service for a painless right cervical mass of uncertain growth. Extensive diagnostic investigation revealed involvement of the contralateral parotid, associated with systemic lymph node enlargement. Thus, adjuvant radiotherapy was decided by the treating team. Conclusion: This case confirms the heterogeneous features and distinctive behavior that the disease can present, as seen with bilateral parotid LEC.

This is the first study to analyze the anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive effect of withanicandrin, isolated from Datura Ferox leaves, and the possible mechanism of action involved in adult zebrafish (ZFa). To this end, the animals were treated intraperitoneally (i. p.) with withanicandrin (4; 20 and 40 mg/kg; 20 µL) and subjected to locomotor activity and acute toxicity. Nociception tests were also carried out with chemical agents, in addition to tests to evaluate inflammatory processes induced by κ-Carrageenan 1.5 % and a Molecular Docking study. As a result, withanicandrin reduced nociceptive behavior by capsaicin at a dose of 40 mg/kg and by acid saline at doses of 4 and 40 mg/kg, through neuromodulation of TRPV1 channels and ASICs, identified through blocking the antinociceptive effect of withanicandrin by the antagonists capsazepine and naloxone. Furthermore, withanicandrin caused an anti-inflammatory effect through the reduction of abdominal edema, absence of leukocyte infiltrate in the liver tissue and reduction of ROS in thel liver tissue and presented better affinity energy compared to control morphine (TRPV1) and ibuprofen (COX-1 and COX-2).

Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) is an old drug used for psoriasis treatment that has recently been repurposed to treat relapse-remitting multiple sclerosis, mostly due to its neuro- and immunomodulatory actions. However, mining of a pharmacovigilance database recently ranked DMF as the second pharmaceutical most associated with cognitive adverse events. To our best knowledge, the signaling mechanisms underlying its therapeutic and neurotoxic outcomes remain mostly undisclosed. This work thus represents the first-hand assessment of DMF-induced metabolic changes in undifferentiated SH-SY5Y human neuroblastoma cells, through an untargeted metabolomic approach using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The endometabolome was analyzed following 24 h and 96 h of exposure to two pharmacologically relevant DMF concentrations (0.1 and 10 µM). None of these conditions significantly reduced metabolic activity (MTT reduction assay). Our data showed that 24 h-exposure to DMF at both concentrations tested mainly affected metabolic pathways involved in mitochondrial activity (e.g., citric acid cycle, de novo triacylglycerol biosynthesis), and the synthesis of catecholamines and serotonin by changing the levels of their respective precursors, namely phenylalanine (0.68-fold decrease for 10 µM DMF vs vehicle), and tryptophan (1.36-fold increase for 0.1 µM DMF vs vehicle). Interestingly, taurine, whose levels can be modulated via Nrf2 signaling (DMF's primary target), emerged as a key mediator of DMF's neuronal action, displaying a 3.86-fold increase and 0.27-fold decrease for 10 µM DMF at 24 h and 96 h, respectively. A 96 h-exposure to DMF seemed to mainly trigger pathways associated with glucose production (e.g., gluconeogenesis, glucose-alanine cycle, malate-aspartate shuttle), possibly related to the metabolism of DMF into monomethyl fumarate and its further conversion into glucose via activation of the citric acid cycle. Overall, our data contribute to improving the understanding of the events associated with neuronal exposure to DMF.

Postpartum femoral neuropathy has a reported incidence of less than 1% and its total recovery time extends up to 6 months to a year. A multidisciplinary approach is vital to rule out permanent disability and to assure a correct diagnosis and earlier rehabilitation. We report a case of a 37-year-old puerperal woman with a history of intrapartum epidural analgesia, who presented post-labor unilateral lower-limb motor weakness and sensory loss, with functional compromise on independent gait. A multidisciplinary team consisting of an anesthesiologist, a physiatrist, a neurologist, and an obstetrician was then established. In the initial physiatry and neurology assessment, the patient reported pain (numerical rating scale 7/10) over the inguinal ligament, lower limb hypoesthesia, and muscle weakness. Femoral neuropathy was suspected. Magnetic resonance imaging ruled out potential complications related to the anesthetic procedure. The patient was then enrolled in a supervised rehabilitation program and, 3 weeks later, electrodiagnostic studies confirmed the initial suspicion. Two months later, the patient had regained lower-limb active range of motion and no pain nor paresthesia was reported. Our case report describes how an early multimodal rehabilitation program within a multidisciplinary framework allows for sooner neuromotor function improvement and activities of daily living independence.

The red blood cells (RBCs) are essential to transport oxygen (O2) and nutrients throughout the human body. Changes in the structure or functioning of the erythrocytes can lead to several deficiencies, such as hemolytic anemias, in which an increase in reactive oxidative species generation is involved in the pathophysiological process, playing a significant role in the severity of several clinical manifestations. There are important lines of defense against the damage caused by oxidizing molecules. Among the antioxidant molecules, the enzyme peroxiredoxin (Prx) has the higher decomposition power of hydrogen peroxide, especially in RBCs, standing out because of its abundance. This review aimed to present the recent findings that broke some paradigms regarding the three isoforms of Prxs found in RBC (Prx1, Prx2, and Prx6), showing that in addition to their antioxidant activity, these enzymes may have supplementary roles in transducing peroxide signals, as molecular chaperones, protecting from membrane damage, and maintenance of iron homeostasis, thus contributing to the overall survival of human RBCs, roles that seen to be disrupted in hemolytic anemia conditions.

Along with poor implant-bone integration, peri-implant diseases are the major causes of implant failure. Although such diseases are primarily triggered by biofilm accumulation, a complex inflammatory process in response to corrosive-related metallic ions/debris has also been recognized as a risk factor. In this regard, by boosting the titanium (Ti) surface with silane-based positive charges, cationic coatings have gained increasing attention due to their ability to kill pathogens and may be favorable for corrosion resistance. Nevertheless, the development of a cationic coating that combines such properties in addition to having a favorable topography for implant osseointegration is lacking. Because introducing hydroxyl (-OH) groups to Ti is essential to increase chemical bonds with silane, Ti pretreatment is of utmost importance to achieve such polarization. In this study, plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) was investigated as a new route to pretreat Ti with OH groups while providing favorable properties for implant application compared with traditional hydrothermal treatment (HT). To produce bactericidal and corrosion-resistant cationic coatings, after pretreatment with PEO or HT (Step 1), surface silanization was subsequently performed via immersion-based functionalization with 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) (Step 2). In the end, five groups were assessed: untreated Ti (Ti), HT, PEO, HT+APTES, and PEO+APTES. PEO created a porous surface with increased roughness and better mechanical and tribological properties compared with HT and Ti. The introduction of -OH groups by HT and PEO was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and the increase in wettability producing superhydrophilic surfaces. After silanization, the surfaces were polarized to hydrophobic ones, and an increase in the amine functional group was observed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, demonstrating a considerable amount of positive ions. Such protonation may explain the enhanced corrosion resistance and dead bacteria (Streptococcus aureus and Escherichia coli) found for PEO+APTES. All groups presented noncytotoxic properties with similar blood plasma protein adsorption capacity vs the Ti control. Our findings provide new insights into developing next-generation cationic coatings by suggesting that a tailorable porous and oxide coating produced by PEO has promise in designing enhanced cationic surfaces targeting biomedical and dental implant applications.

Citrus canker, caused by the bacterium Xanthomonas citri (Xcc), is one of the most devastating diseases for the citrus industry. Xylose is a constituent of the cell wall of plants, and the ability of Xcc to use this carbohydrate may play a role in virulence. Xcc has two genes codifying for xylose isomerase (XI), a bifunctional enzyme that interconverts D-xylose into D-xylulose and D-glucose into D-fructose. The aim of this work was to investigate the functional role of the two putative XI ORFs, XAC1776 (xylA1) and XAC4225 (xylA2), in Xcc pathogenicity. XI-coding genes of Xcc were deleted, and the single mutants (XccΔxylA1 or XccΔxylA2) or the double mutant (XccΔxylA1ΔxylA2) remained viable. The deletion of one or both XI genes (xylA1 and/or xylA2) increased the aggressiveness of the mutants, causing disease symptoms. RT-qPCR analysis of wild strain and xylA deletion mutants grown in vivo and in vitro revealed that the highest expression level of hrpX and xylR was observed in vivo for the double mutant. The results indicate that XI depletion increases the expression of the hrp regulatory genes in Xcc. We concluded that the intracellular accumulation of xylose enhances Xcc virulence.

The effects of a cooling strategy following repeated high-intensity running (RHIR) on soccer kicking performance in a hot environment (>30ºC) were investigated in youth soccer players. Fifteen academy under-17 players participated. In Experiment 1, players completed an all-out RHIR protocol (10×30 m, with 30s intervals). In Experiment 2 (cross-over design), participants performed this running protocol under two conditions: (1) following RHIR 5 minutes of cooling where ice packs were applied to the quadriceps/hamstrings, (2) a control condition involving passive resting. Perceptual measures [ratings of perceived exertion (RPE), pain and recovery], thigh temperature and kick-derived video three-dimensional kinematics (lower limb) and performance (ball speed and two-dimensional placement indices) were collected at baseline, post-exercise and intervention. In Experiment 1, RHIR led to small-to-large impairments (p < 0.03;d = -0.42--1.83) across perceptual, kinematic and performance measures. In experiment 2, RPE (p < 0.01; Kendall's W = 0.30) and mean radial error (p = 0.057; η2 = 0.234) increased only post-control. Significant small declines in ball speed were also observed post-control (p < 0.05; d = 0.35). Post-intervention foot centre-of-mass velocity was moderately faster in the cooling compared to control condition (p = 0.04; d = 0.60). In youth soccer players, a short cooling period was beneficial in counteracting declines in kicking performance, in particular ball placement, following intense running activity in the heat.

Marchiafava-Bignami disease is a rare condition characterized by demyelination of the corpus callosum that can evolve into necrosis. It is associated with thiamine deficiency, chronic alcohol consumption, and less frequently, severe malnutrition. The diagnosis is based on clinical presentation - altered mental state and changes in a neurological examination - and on neuroimaging studies, especially magnetic resonance imaging. Treatment with parenteral thiamine is recommended. The authors present a case of a 50-year-old male, with chronic alcohol abuse and malnutrition, admitted to the hospital with an acute form of the Marchiafava-Bignami disease. An early diagnosis and treatment facilitated neurological and cognitive recovery.

The demand for the development of portable and low-cost analytical devices has encouraged studies employing additive manufacturing techniques, such as 3D-printing. This method can be used to produce components such as printed electrodes, photometers, and fluorometers for low-cost systems that provide advantages including low sample volume, reduced chemical waste, and easy coupling with LED-based optics and other instrumental devices. In the present work, a modular 3D-printed fluorometer/photometer was designed and applied for the determination of caffeine (CAF), ciprofloxacin (CIP), and Fe(ii) in pharmaceutical samples. All the plastic parts were printed separately by a 3D printer, using Tritan as the plastic material (black color). The final size of the modular 3D-printed device was 12 × 8 cm. The radiation sources were light-emitting diodes (LEDs), while a light dependent resistor (LDR) was used as a photodetector. The analytical curves obtained for the device were: y = 3.00 × 10-4 [CAF] + 1.00 and R 2 = 0.987 for caffeine; y = 6.90 × 10-3 [CIP] - 3.39 × 10-2 and R 2 = 0.991 for ciprofloxacin; and y = 1.12 × 10-1 [Fe(ii)] + 1.26 × 10-2 and R 2 = 0.998 for iron(ii). The results obtained using the developed device were compared with reference methods, with no statistically significant differences observed. The 3D-printed device was composed of moveable parts, providing flexibility for adaptation and application as a photometer or fluorometer, by only switching the photodetector position. The LED could also be easily switched, permitting application of the device for different purposes. The cost of the device, including the printing and electronic components, was lower than US$10. The use of 3D-printing enables the development of portable instruments for use in remote locations with a lack of research resources.

Synthetic cathinones, such as 3,4-methylenedioxypyrovalerone (MDPV), are widely abused due to their psychostimulant effects. As they are chiral molecules, studies of their stereochemical stability (racemization can occur in certain temperatures and acidic/basic environments) and of their biological and/or toxicity effects (enantiomers might display different properties) are of great relevance. In this study, the liquid chromatography (LC) semi-preparative enantioresolution of MDPV was optimized to collect both enantiomers with high recovery rates and enantiomeric ratio (e.r.) values. The absolute configuration of the MDPV enantiomers was determined by electronic circular dichroism (ECD) with the aid of theoretical calculations. The first eluted enantiomer was identified as S-(-)-MDPV and the second eluted enantiomer was identified as R-(+)-MDPV. A racemization study was performed by LC-UV, showing enantiomers' stability up to 48 h at room temperature and 24 h at 37 °C. Racemization was only affected by higher temperatures. The potential enantioselectivity of MDPV in cytotoxicity and in the expression of neuroplasticity-involved proteins-brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (Cdk5)-was also evaluated using SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells. No enantioselectivity was observed.

Immunohistochemical staining of cell and molecular targets in brain samples is a powerful tool that can provide valuable information on neurological mechanisms. However, post-processing of photomicrographs acquired after 3,3'-Diaminobenzidine (DAB) staining is particularly challenging due to the complexity associated with the size, samples number, analyzed targets, image quality, and even the subjectivity inherent to the analysis by different users. Conventionally, this analysis relies on the manual quantification of distinct parameters (e.g., the number and size of cells and the number and length of cell branching) in a large set of images. These represent extremely time-consuming and complex tasks, defaulting the processing of high amounts of information. Here we describe an improved semi-automatic method to quantify glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP)-labelled astrocytes in immunohistochemistry images of rat brains, at magnifications as low as 20×. This method is a straightforward adaptation of the Young & Morrison method, using ImageJ's plugin Skeletonize, coupled with intuitive data processing in datasheet-based software. It allows swifter and more efficient post-processing of brain tissue samples, regarding astrocyte size and number quantification, the total area occupied, as well as astrocyte branching and branch length (indicators of astrocyte activation), thus contributing to better understand the possible inflammatory response developed by astrocytes.

Synthetic cannabinoids (SCs) are a chemically diverse group of new psychoactive substances (NPSs) that target the endocannabinoid system, triggering a plethora of actions (e.g., elevated mood sensation, relaxation, appetite stimulation) that resemble, but are more intense than, those induced by cannabis. Although some of these effects have been explored for therapeutic applications, anticipated stronger psychoactive effects than cannabis and reduced risk perception have increased the recreational use of SCs, which have dominated the NPS market in the United States and Europe over the past decade. However, rising SC-related intoxications and deaths represent a major public health concern and embody a major challenge for policy makers. Here, we review the pharmacology and toxicology of SCs. A thorough characterization of SCs' pharmacodynamics and toxicodynamics is important to better understand the main mechanisms underlying acute and chronic effects of SCs, interpret the clinical/pathological findings related to SC use, and improve SC risk awareness.

Mitochondria play a critical role in the regulation of several biological processes (e.g., programmed cell death, inflammation, neurotransmission, cell differentiation). In recent years, accumulating findings have evidenced that cannabinoids, a group of endogenous and exogenous (synthetic and plant-derived) psychoactive compounds that bind to cannabinoid receptors, may modulate mitochondrial function and dynamics. As such, mitochondria have gained increasing interest as central mediators in cannabinoids' pharmacological and toxicological signatures. Here, we review the mechanisms underlying the cannabinoids' modulation of mitochondrial activity and dynamics, as well as the potential implications of such mitochondrial processes' disruption on cell homeostasis and disease. Interestingly, cannabinoids may target different mitochondrial processes (e.g., regulation of intracellular calcium levels, bioenergetic metabolism, apoptosis, and mitochondrial dynamics, including mitochondrial fission and fusion, transport, mitophagy, and biogenesis), by modulating multiple and complex signaling pathways. Of note, the outcome may depend on the experimental models used, as well as the chemical structure, concentration, and exposure settings to the cannabinoid, originating equivocal data. Notably, this interaction seems to represent not only an important feature of cannabinoids' toxicological signatures, with potential implications for the onset of distinct pathological conditions (e.g., cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, metabolic syndromes), but also an opportunity to develop novel therapeutic strategies for such pathologies, which is also discussed in this review.

Método: Estudo transversal, amostra n=50, avaliou a dor crônica pela escala numérica de dor, identificou o Diagnóstico de Enfermagem Dor crônica da Taxonomia da NANDA,e Ansiedade e Depressão foi avaliada pela Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (Escala Hospitalar de Ansiedade e Depressão). Resultados:A prevalência de ansiedade foi de 36,0% e 32,0% dedepressão, acometeu mulheres entre 60 e 69 anos. A relação entre intensidade de dor foi moderada, em ambos que tinham ansiedade ou depressão. Identificou as características definidoras do Diagnósticos de Enfermagem Dor Crônica: Alteração da capacidade em continuar atividades prévias, 61,1% tinham ansiedade e 56,3% apresentaram depressão; Alteração no padrão de sono, 72,2% com ansiedade e 56,3% com depressão; Autorrelato usando escala padronizada de dor, 98,0% tinham ansiedade e depressão respectivamente. Os Fatores Relacionados do Diagnósticos de Enfermagem 88,9% com Aumento de IMC tinham ansiedade e 93,8% com depressão; Alteração no padrão de sono 72,2% com ansiedade e 56,3% depressão; 92% com Idade ≥50 anos 93,8% com ansiedade e 88,9% com depressão. Conclusão:As mulheres tinham dor crônica de intensidade moderada e foi relacionado a ansiedade e a depressão.

Results:The prevalence of anxiety was 36.0% and 32.0% of depression, affecting women between 60 and 69 years old. The relationship between pain intensity was moderate, in both those who had anxiety or depression. Identified the defining characteristics of the Chronic Pain Nursing Diagnosis: Change in the ability to continue previous activities, 61.1% had anxiety and 56.3% had depression; Change in sleep pattern, 72.2% with anxiety and 56.3% with depression; Self-reported using a standardized pain scale, 98.0% had anxiety and depression respectively. Related Factors of Nursing Diagnoses 88.9% with increased BMI had anxiety and 93.8% with depression; Change in sleep pattern 72.2% with anxiety and 56.3% depression; 92% aged ≥50 years, 93.8% with anxiety and 88.9% with depression. Conclusion: Women had chronic pain of moderate intensity and it was related to anxiety and depression.


Objetivo: Relacionar el dolor crónica con la depresión y la ansiedad de pacientes con Diabetes Mellitus. Método:Estudio transversal, muestra n=50, se evaluó el dolor crónico mediante la escala numérica de dolor, se identificaron los Diagnósticos de Enfermería El dolor crónico de la Taxonomía NANDA, la Ansiedad y Depresión se evaluó mediante la Escala Hospitalaria de Ansiedad y Depresión. La relación entre la intensidad del dolor fue moderada, tanto en los que presentaban ansiedad como en los que presentaban depresión. Se identificaron las características definitorias del Diagnóstico de Enfermería del Dolor Crónico: Cambio en la capacidad de continuar actividades anteriores, el 61,1% presentó ansiedad y el 56,3% presentó depresión; Cambio en el patrón de sueño, 72,2% con ansiedad y 56,3% con depresión; Autoinformados mediante una escala de dolor estandarizada, el 98,0% tenía ansiedad y depresión respectivamente. Factores Relacionados con el Diagnóstico de Enfermería el 88,9% con IMC elevado presentó ansiedad y el 93,8% depresión; Cambio en el patrón de sueño 72,2% con ansiedad y 56,3% depresión; 92% con edad ≥50 años, 93,8% con ansiedad y 88,9% con depresión. Conclusión:Las mujeres presentaron dolor crónico de intensidad moderada y se relacionó con ansiedad y depresión.

Melatonin (MEL) presents well-documented pleiotropic actions against oxidative stress (OS), acting indirectly through activation of transcription factors, e.g., FoxO3 and Nrf2. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the possible modulating effects of MEL on the redox signaling pathways PI3K/AKT/FoxO3 and Keap1/Nrf2/ARE in K562 erythroleukemic cells subjected to OS induction. For this, the viability, and transcript levels of genes involved in redox adaptation were evaluated in K562 cells in different periods of erythroid differentiation: under OS induction by hydrogen peroxide (100 µM H2O2); treated with 1 nM (C1) and 1 mM (C2) MEL; and associated or not with stress induction. We observed a restoration of physiological levels of Nrf2 in both MEL concentrations under OS. The C1 was related to enhanced expression of antioxidant and proteasome genes through the Nrf2-ARE pathway, while C2 to the induction of FOXO3 expression, suggesting an involvement with apoptotic pathway, according to BIM transcript levels. The effects of MEL administration in these cells showed a period and dose-dependent pattern against induced-OS, with direct and indirect actions through different pathways of cellular adaptation, reinforcing the importance of this indolamine in the regulation of cellular homeostasis, being a promising therapeutic alternative for diseases that present an exacerbated OS.

This study aimed to establish the importance of ergothioneine (ERT) in the erythroid adaptation mechanisms by appraising the expression levels of redox-related genes associated with the PI3K/AKT/FoxO3 and Nrf2-ARE pathways using K562 cells induced to erythroid differentiation and H2O2-oxidative stress. Cell viability and gene expression were evaluated. Two concentrations of ERT were assessed, 1 nM (C1) and 100 µM (C2), with and without stress induction (100 µM H2O2). Assessments were made in three periods of the cellular differentiation process (D0, D2, and D4). The C1 treatment promoted the induction of FOXO3 (D0 and 2), PSMB5, and 6 expressions (D4); C1 + H2O2 treatment showed the highest levels of NRF2 transcripts, KEAP1 (D0), YWHAQ (D2 and 4), PSMB5 (D2) and PSMB6 (D4); and C2 + H2O2 (D2) an increase in FOXO3 and MST1 expression, with a decrease of YWHAQ and NRF2 was observed. in C2 + H2O2 (D2) an increase in FOXO3 and MST1, with a decrease in YWHAQ and NRF2 was observed All ERT treatments increased gamma-globin expression. Statistical multivariate analyzes highlighted that the Nrf2-ARE pathway presented a greater contribution in the production of PRDX1, SOD1, CAT, and PSBM5 mRNAs, whereas the PI3K/AKT/FoxO3 pathway was associated with the PRDX2 and TRX transcripts. In conclusion, ERT presented a cytoprotective action through Nrf2 and FoxO3, with the latter seeming to contribute to erythroid proliferation/differentiation.

RESUMO

Objetivo:Identificar e descrever a prevalência de casos de COVID-19 entre profissionais de saúde.Métodos:Estudo transversal descritivo,realizado entreprofissionais de saúdeatuantes na assistência,independente se teve ou não a doença. A coleta de dados ocorreu de forma online,adotando-se a técnica de bola de neve. Realizou-se análise descritiva dos resultados.Resultados:Aamostra foi composta por128 profissionais de saúde. A prevalência geral foi de 46,9%. Nalinha de frente,a prevalência foi de 61,7%. A mediana de idades foi de 30 anos. Enfermeiros (61,7%) etécnicos de enfermagem (20%) tiverammais diagnósticos. A obesidade foi a condição de saúde mais prevalente nos que tiveram COVID-19 (20%). Houve uso de profilaxia para a COVID-19 com ivermectina (55,0%), azitromicina (43,3%) e hidroxicloroquina (3,1%), participação em aglomeração externo ao trabalho (50%), contato com familiar positivo(51,7%),higienização das mãos apenas com o álcool em gel (60,0%)e falta de equipamentos de proteção individual (43,3%).Conclusão:Houve uma elevada prevalência de casos,especialmentenos profissionais dalinha de frente, assim como elevada frequência depráticas de risco para a doença, como aglomerações, excesso de jornada de trabalho, uso de profilaxia e problemas com os Equipamentos de Proteção Individual.


Objective:To identify and describe the prevalence of COVID-19 cases among health professionals. Methods:Adescriptive cross-sectional study, carried out among health professionals working in care, regardless of whether or not they had the disease. Data collection took place online, using the snowball technique. A descriptive analysis of the results was performed. Results:The sample consisted of 128 health professionals. The overall prevalence was 46.9%. On the front line, the prevalence was 61.7%. Themedian age was 30 years. Nurses (61.7%) and nursing technicians (20%) had more diagnoses. Obesity was the most prevalent health condition in those who had COVID-19 (20%). There was prophylaxis use for COVID-19 with ivermectin (55.0%), azithromycin (43.3%)and hydroxychloroquine (3.1%), participation in crowds outside work (50%), contact with a positive family member (51.7%), hand hygiene only with gel alcohol (60.0%) and lack of personal protective equipment (43.3%).Conclusion:There was a high prevalenceof cases, especially among frontline professionals, as well as a high frequency of risky practices for the disease, such as crowds, excessive working hours, prophylaxis use and problems with Personal Protective Equipment
