This study explores indoor air pollutant (PM1, PM2.5 and NO2) concentrations over a 15-week period during the COVID-19 pandemic in a typical suburban household in Oxford, UK. A multi-room intensive monitoring study was conducted in a single dwelling using 10 air quality sensors measuring real-time pollutant concentrations at 10 second intervals to assess temporal and spatial variability in PM1, PM2.5 and NO2 concentrations, identify pollution-prone areas, and investigate the impact of residents' activities on indoor air quality. Significant spatial variations in PM concentrations were observed within the study dwelling, with highest hourly concentrations (769.0 & 300.9 µg m-3 for PM2.5, and PM1, respectively) observed in the upstairs study room, which had poor ventilation. Cooking activities were identified as a major contributor to indoor particulate pollution, with peak concentrations aligning with cooking events. Indoor NO2 levels were typically higher than outdoor levels, particularly in the kitchen where a gas-cooking appliance was used. There was no significant association observed between outdoor and indoor PM concentrations; however, a clear correlation was evident between kitchen PM emissions and indoor levels. Similarly, outdoor NO2 had a limited influence on indoor air quality compared to kitchen activities. Indoor sources were found to dominate for both PM and NO2, with higher Indoor/Outdoor (I/O) ratios observed in the upstairs bedroom and the kitchen. Overall, our findings highlight the contribution of indoor air pollutant sources and domestic activities to indoor air pollution exposure, notably during the COVID-19 pandemic when people were typically spending more time in domestic settings. Our novel findings, which suggest high levels of pollutant concentrations in upstairs (first floor) rooms, underscore the necessity for targeted interventions. These interventions include the implementation of source control measures, effective ventilation strategies and occupant education for behaviour change, all aimed at improving indoor air quality and promoting healthier living environments.

In this study, we present two fully characterized nickel tetrathiocyanocorroles, representing a novel class of 3d-metallocorroles. These nickel(II) ions form square planar complexes, exhibiting a d8-electronic configuration. These anionic complexes are stabilized by the electron-withdrawing SCN groups on the bipyrrole unit of the corrole. The reduced aromaticity in these anionic nickel(II) corrole complexes is evidenced by single crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD) data and a markedly altered absorption profile, with stronger Q bands compared to Soret bands. Notably, the UV-Vis and electrochemical data exhibit significant differences from previously reported nickel(II) corrole radical cation and nickel(II) porphyrin complexes. While these electrochemical data bear a resemblance to those of the anionic nickel(II) corrole by Gross et al., the UV-Vis data show substantial distinctions. Additionally, we explore the utilization of nickel(II)-corrole@CC (where CC denotes carbon cloth) as an electrocatalyst for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in an alkaline medium. During electrochemical water oxidation, the molecular catalyst is partially converted to nickel (oxy)hydroxide, Ni(O)OH. The structure reveals the coexistence of the molecular complex and Ni(O)OH in the active catalyst, achieving a turnover frequency (TOF) of 3.32 × 10-2 s-1. The synergy between the homogeneous and heterogeneous phases improves the OER activity, providing more active sites and edge sites and enhancing interfacial charge transfer.

Silibinin (SIL) Encapsulated Nanoliquid Crystalline (SIL-NLCs) particles were prepared to study neuroprotective effect against amyloid beta (Aß1-42) neurotoxicity in Balb/c mice model. Theses NLCs were prepared through hot emulsification and probe sonication technique. The pharmacodynamics was investigatigated on Aß1-42 intracerebroventricular (ICV) injected Balb/c mice. The particle size, zeta potential and drug loading were optimized to be 153 ± 2.5 nm, -21 mV, and 8.2%, respectively. Small angle X-ray (SAXS) and electron microscopy revealed to crystalline shape of SIL-NLCs. Thioflavin T (ThT) fluroscence and circular dichroism (CD) technique were employed to understand monomer inhibition effect of SIL-NLCs on Aß1-4. In neurobehavioral studies, SIL-NLCs exhibited enhanced mitigation of memory impairment induced on by Aß1-42 in T-maze and new object recognition test (NORT). Whereas biochemical and histopathological estimation of brain samples showed reduction in level of Aß1-42 aggregate, acetylcholine esterase (ACHE) and reactive oxygen species (ROS). SIL-NLCs treated animal group showed higher protection against Aß1-42 toxicity compared to free SIL and Donopezil (DPZ). Therefore SIL-NLCs promises great prospect in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease.

Lemierre's syndrome, or postanginal sepsis, is an uncommon but potentially fatal infection of the internal jugular vein. The combination of bacteremia, internal jugular vein thrombophlebitis, and metastatic septic emboli secondary to acute pharyngeal infections is characteristic of Lemierre's syndrome. Isolated pathogens are typically oral anaerobic bacteria, most commonly Fusobacterium necrophorum. While the incidence of Lemierre's syndrome has declined over the years, the proportion of cases caused by uncommonly implicated bacteria have been increasingly cited in the literature (1). In this case report, we introduce a novel presentation of Lemierre's syndrome in a patient who presented to the emergency department with neck swelling and shortness of breath and was found to have infectious myositis and bacteremia with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Clinicians should be vigilant of underlying thrombus in patients with neck swelling and infectious myositis as our patient's internal jugular vein thrombus was missed on initial computed tomography read.

Sphingolipids (SL) are well recognized for their cell signaling through extracellular and intracellular pathways. Based on chemistry different types of SL are biosynthesized in mammalian cells and have specific function in cellular activity. SL has an ampiphilic structure with have hydrophobic body attached to the polar head enables their use as a drug delivery agent in the form of nanocarriers. SL-based liposomes can improve the solubility of lipophilic drugs through host and drug complexes and are more stable than conventional liposomal formulations. Preclinical studies of SL nanocarriers are reported on topical delivery, oral delivery, ocular delivery, chemotherapeutic delivery, cardiovascular delivery and Alzheimer's disease. The commercial challenges and patents related to SL nanoformulations are highlighted in this article.

This prospective study investigated the association between lipoprotein (a) [Lp(a)] levels and adverse cardiac events in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for coronary artery disease. Among 600 patients, 79.16 % were male. Kaplan Meier analysis revealed significantly higher incidence rates of cardiac death, major adverse cardiac events, myocardial infarction, revascularization and stroke in patients with elevated Lp(a) (≥30 mg/dL). The Cox Regression model identified Lp(a) ≥30 mg/dL as a significant risk factor for adverse events (HR: 4.2920; 95%CI: 2.58-7.120; p < 0.05). Elevated Lp(a) levels were associated with an increased risk of adverse cardiac events in coronary artery disease patients undergoing PCI.

The human cytochrome P450 (CYP) 1, 2 and 3 families of enzymes are responsible for the biotransformation of a majority of the currently available pharmaceutical drugs. The highly polymorphic CYP2C9 predominantly metabolizes many drugs including anticoagulant S-warfarin, anti-hypertensive losartan, anti-diabetic tolbutamide, analgesic ibuprofen, etc. There are >80 single nucleotide changes identified in CYP2C9, many of which significantly alter the clearance of important drugs. Here we report the structural and biophysical analysis of two polymorphic variants, CYP2C9*14 (Arg125His) and CYP2C9*27 (Arg150Leu) complexed with losartan. The X-ray crystal structures of the CYP2C9*14 and *27 illustrate the binding of two losartan molecules, one in the active site near heme and another on the periphery. Both losartan molecules are bound in an identical conformation to that observed in the previously solved CYP2C9 wild-type complex, however, the number of losartan differs from the wild-type structure, which showed binding of three molecules. Additionally, isothermal titration calorimetry experiments reveal a lower binding affinity of losartan with *14 and *27 variants when compared to the wild-type. Overall, the results provide new insights into the effects of these genetic polymorphisms and suggests a possible mechanism contributing to reduced metabolic activity in patients carrying these alleles.

PURPOSE: Adropin is an emerging metabolic hormone that has a role in regulating energy homeostasis. The present study aimed to explore the impact of adropin on redox homeostasis and its possible role in testicular functions in adult mouse testis. METHODS: Western blot, flow-cytometry, and TUNEL assay were performed to explore the impact of intra-testicular treatment of adropin (0.5 µg/testis) on testicular functions of adult mice. Hormonal assay was done by ELISA. Further, antioxidant enzyme activities were measured. RESULTS: Adropin treatment significantly increased the sperm count and testicular testosterone by increasing the expression of GPR19 and steroidogenic proteins. Also, adropin treatment reduced the oxidative/nitrosative stress by facilitating the translocation of NRF2 and inhibiting NF-κB into the nucleus of germ cells. Enhanced nuclear translocation of NRF2 leads to elevated biosynthesis of antioxidant enzymes, evident by increased HO-1, SOD, and catalase activity that ultimately resulted into declined LPO levels in adropin-treated mice testes. Furthermore, adropin decreased nuclear translocation of NF-κB in germ cells, that resulted into decreased NO production leading to decreased nitrosative stress. Adropin/GPR19 signaling significantly increased its differentiation, proliferation, and survival of germ cells by elevating the expression of PCNA and declining caspase 3, cleaved caspase 3 expression, Bax/Bcl2 ratio, and TUNEL-positive cells. FACS analysis revealed that adropin treatment enhances overall turnover of testicular cells leading to rise in production of advanced germ cells, notably spermatids. CONCLUSION: The present study indicated that adropin improves testicular steroidogenesis, spermatogenesis via modulating redox potential and could be a promising target for treating testicular dysfunctions.

Most fine ambient particulate matter (PM2.5)-based epidemiological models use globalized concentration-response (CR) functions assuming that the toxicity of PM2.5 is solely mass-dependent without considering its chemical composition. Although oxidative potential (OP) has emerged as an alternate metric of PM2.5 toxicity, the association between PM2.5 mass and OP on a large spatial extent has not been investigated. In this study, we evaluate this relationship using 385 PM2.5 samples collected from 14 different sites across 4 different continents and using 5 different OP (and cytotoxicity) endpoints. Our results show that the relationship between PM2.5 mass vs. OP (and cytotoxicity) is largely non-linear due to significant differences in the intrinsic toxicity, resulting from a spatially heterogeneous chemical composition of PM2.5. These results emphasize the need to develop localized CR functions incorporating other measures of PM2.5 properties (e.g., OP) to better predict the PM2.5-attributed health burdens.

Tumor-induced osteomalacia (TIO) is an exceedingly rare paraneoplastic condition characterized by hypophosphatemia, osteomalacia, fragility fractures, and fatigue. A 39-year-old man was assessed for hemoptysis, pathological rib fractures, and fatigue, and was found to have a chest mass with lung metastasis. Biopsy of the mass suggested high-grade epithelioid and spindle cell neoplasm. He was initially treated for soft tissue sarcoma with an ifosfamide-based regimen and developed Fanconi syndrome that resolved on cessation of ifosfamide. Serum phosphate remained low. A low tubular maximum reabsorption of phosphate to glomerular filtration rate ratio (TmP/GFR) indicated disproportionate phosphaturia, while a severely elevated fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF23) level enabled a diagnosis of TIO. He was started on phosphate and calcitriol supplementation. Subsequent next-generation sequencing demonstrated a RET-fusion mutation, leading to reclassification of his malignancy to a sarcomatoid non-small cell lung carcinoma. He was switched to selpercatinib, a targeted RET-kinase inhibitor approved for locally advanced or metastatic RET-fusion-positive solid tumors. This induced tumor remission with subsequent normalization of his FGF23 levels and hypophosphatemia. Despite the presence of a confounding etiology like drug-induced Fanconi syndrome, persistence of hypophosphatemia should prompt a workup of TIO, especially in the presence of a tumor.

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are a leading cause of global mortality, motivating research into novel approaches for their management. Lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)), a unique lipoprotein particle, has been implicated in atherosclerosis and thrombosis, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic target for CVDs. AIM: This study aimed to investigate the association of Lp(a) levels with various cardiovascular parameters and events among patients with confirmed cardiovascular disease. METHODOLOGY: A prospective study was conducted, enrolling 600 participants, predominantly comprising males (79%), with a mean age of 52.78 ± 0.412 years diagnosed with cardiovascular disease. The follow-up was done for 18 months. Patient demographics, blood investigations, and occurrence of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) were collected. SPSS version 21 was used to statistically analyze the relationships between elevated Lp(a) levels and factors such as age, glycated hemoglobin, mortality, MACE, cardiac death, target vessel revascularization, and stroke. RESULTS: The study revealed significant (P < 0.05) associations between elevated Lp(a) levels and advanced age, increased glycated hemoglobin levels, as well as occurrences of all-cause mortality, MACE, cardiac death, target vessel revascularization, and stroke. Notably, a significant (P < 0.05), association between high Lp(a) levels and acute coronary syndrome (ACS) emerged, suggesting Lp(a)'s role in advanced cardiac events. CONCLUSION: The findings highlight the potential significance of Lp(a) as a notable risk factor in cardiovascular health. The observed associations between elevated Lp(a) and adverse cardiovascular events, including ACS, underscore its pathogenic role. Consequently, this study supports the rationale for further research into Lp(a)-specific therapeutic interventions, offering substantial promise in refining the management strategies for cardiovascular diseases.

Adipokines are now well-known to regulate reproduction. Visfatin is an adipokine expressed in the hypothalamus, pituitary, ovary, uterus, and placenta of different species, and since it has been found to modulate the endocrine secretion of the hypothalamus, pituitary gland and ovary, it may be considered a novel regulator of female reproduction. Although the majority of the literature explored its role in ovarian regulation, visfatin has also been shown to regulate uterine remodeling, endometrial receptivity and embryo development, and its expression in the uterus is steroid dependent. Like other adipokines, visfatin expression and levels are deregulated in pathological conditions including polycystic ovary syndrome. Thus, the present mini-review focuses on the role of visfatin in female reproduction under both physiological and pathological conditions.

Purpose of the study The current study had two goals: first, it compared the radiological and functional results of the ipsilateral shaft and proximal femur fractures treated by using two different methods, i.e., single implant vs dual implants. The second goal was to devise a clinical algorithm for guiding and managing such fractures. Methods This study was conducted in a level 1 trauma center and included 34 patients with concomitant ipsilateral fractures of the proximal femur and shaft of the femur. The patients were divided into two groups as per our clinical algorithm. Group I, comprising of 16 patients, were treated with a single implant like the proximal femoral nail (PFN) or proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA2). Group II of dual implants, comprising of 18 patients, were treated with two types of implants separately for proximal and shaft fracture. Results All patients were followed at monthly intervals up to six months, then at three monthly intervals up to one year, with a minimal follow-up of one year of every patient. On clinical evaluation by Friedman-Wyman criteria, in group I, seven patients had a fair outcome, eight patients had a good outcome, and one patient had a poor outcome, while in group II, eight patients had a fair outcome, nine patients had a good outcome, and one patient had a poor outcome. No patient developed non-union or avascular necrosis of the femoral head in any of the groups. Conclusion For concurrent ipsilateral diaphyseal and proximal femur fractures, both dual and single implants are equally effective alternatives if properly applied as per our clinical algorithm. Implant selection primarily depends on the pattern of injury, and our clinical algorithm can be a suitable guide for guiding the selection of implants.

The corpus luteum (CL) is a temporary endocrine gland that synthesizes progesterone. The luteal progesterone plays a central role in the regulation of the estrous cycle as well as the implantation and maintenance of pregnancy. Our previous study showed the expression of adropin and its receptor, GPR19, in the luteal cells and its significant role in luteinization. The aim of the present study was to investigate the in vitro effect of adropin on hCG-induced ovarian functions in adult mice. We also evaluated the effect of exogenous treatment with adropin on ovarian steroidogenesis and anti-oxidant parameters, with special emphasis on CL function. Our results demonstrated that adropin acts synergistically with hCG to promote ovarian steroidogenesis and survival by increasing the expression of StAR, 3ß-HSD, and aromatase proteins and decreasing the BAX/BCL2 ratio. Exogenous adropin treatment increased progesterone production by increasing the expression of GPR19, StAR and 3ß-HSD enzymes in the mouse ovary. Also, adropin inhibited the luteal oxidative stress by increasing nuclear translocation of NRF-2 in CL, which resulted in increased HO-1 expression and SOD, catalase activity. Decreased oxidative stress might inhibit the translocation of NF-κB into the nucleus of luteal cells, resulting into increased survival and decreased apoptosis, as evident by decreased lipid peroxidation, BAX/BCL2 ratio, caspase 3, active caspase 3 expression, and TUNEL-positive cells in adropin treated mice. Our findings suggest that adropin can be a promising candidate that can enhance the survivability of the CL.

Background Bariatric surgeries aid weight loss in patients with morbid obesity, yet staple-line leaks pose safety concerns. Multiple methods are used to help identify these links. Intraluminal indocyanine green (ICG) has been shown to be useful in other applications, and its use in robotic bariatric surgeries is underexplored. Objective The primary objective of this research project was to demonstrate the usage of intraluminal ICG in detecting staple-line leaks during robotic sleeve gastrectomy and robotic gastric bypass. Settings The research was conducted at Bronxcare Health System between June 2022 and June 2023. Methods We studied 150 consecutive participants undergoing robotic sleeve gastrectomy or robotic gastric bypass. Intraluminal ICG was used in each case in order to identify leaks. Data on comorbidities, detected intraoperative leaks, and detected postoperative leaks were collected. Results Out of the 150 patients who underwent robotic bariatric surgeries (139 for sleeve gastrectomy and 11 for gastric bypass), four cases (two for each procedure) were identified with intraoperative leaks using ICG, resulting in an overall 2.66% incidence rate. In those four patients with intraoperative leaks, reinforcing sutures and a drain were placed. Following the surgeries, none of the patients had radiologic or clinical leaks identified. Conclusions Intraluminal ICG presents a novel approach for detecting staple-line leaks in robotic bariatric surgery. Future studies can be done to look at a larger series of patients and compare leak detection rates between ICG and other methods.

Bawri or Garri, a non-descript cattle population managed under an extensive system in Madhya Pradesh state of India, was identified and characterized both genetically and phenotypically to check whether or not it can be recognised as a breed. The cattle have white and gray colour and are medium sized with 122.5 ± 7.5 cm and 109.45 ± 0.39 cm height at withers in male and female, respectively. Double-digest restriction site associated DNA (ddRAD) sequencing was employed to identify ascertainment bias free SNPs representing the entire genome cost effectively; resulting in calling 1,156,650 high quality SNPs. Observed homozygosity was 0.76, indicating Bawri as a quite unique population. However, the inbreeding coefficient was 0.025, indicating lack of selection. SNPs found here can be used in GWAS and genetic evaluation programs. Considering the uniqueness of Bawri cattle, it can be registered as a breed for its better genetic management.

BACKGROUND: Chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) is a debilitating affliction that affects diverse quality of life (QoL) parameters such as sleep, self-esteem, and daily activities. Second-generation antihistamines, such as desloratadine, are more effective and safer in managing CSU. Desloratadine is a nonsedating, potent, and highly selective H1 receptor antagonist. At its daily dose of 5 mg, almost half of CSU patients do not show symptomatic improvement. European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI)/Global Allergy and Asthma European Network (GA2LEN)/European Dermatology Forum (EDF) (EuroGuiDerm)/Asia Pacific Association of Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology (APAAACI) guidelines recommend increasing the dosage to up to four times in such nonresponsive patients. However, there is insufficient clinical evidence in Indian settings. METHOD: We evaluated the efficacy and safety of 10 mg desloratadine (OD) in 256 nonresponsive patients with moderate to severe CSU. The primary outcome was the change in Urticaria Activity Score (UAS7) from baseline to four weeks. Additionally, change in Chronic Urticaria Quality of Life (CU-Q2oL) scores during the course of treatment was also evaluated. RESULT: The mean UAS7 scores showed a significant reduction from 31.9 ± 4.8 at baseline to 18.2 ± 8.1 at the end of the study (p < 0.0001). The use of a higher dose of desloratadine also decreased the CU-Q2oL scores significantly from 59.8 ± 14.7 at baseline to 35.4 ± 10 at four weeks (p < 0.0001). The incidence of adverse events (AEs) possibly linked to the drug was low (1.6%), and no serious adverse events were reported. CONCLUSION: Results indicated improvements in the disease severity as well as its positive impact on participants' QoL. This study confirms the efficacy and safety of daily use of a twofold dose of desloratadine in nonresponsive moderate to severe CSU patients.

The efficacy of intraoperative esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) in visualizing a patient's small bowel interior to detect injuries or lesions, or conduct a leak test post-bowel anastomosis, makes it a preferred option among surgeons. However, it is not always available, can carry a risk of morbidity and mortality, or can prolong operative time if not performed by a proficient team. A 21-year-old male patient came to the emergency department with four gunshot wounds to his abdomen, with two on either side of the abdomen. Exploratory laparotomy was performed and through and through injuries were identified in the small bowel and at the junction of the third/fourth portion of the duodenum. It was challenging to gather the patient's past medical history, particularly gastrointestinal bleeding history, due to the underlying medical condition. However, the patient had experienced a retroperitoneal bowel injury in the setting of duodenal hematoma that was not immediately identified at first glance. In this context, intraoperative endoscopy could be a significant adjunct to detect retroperitoneal bowel injury if rapidly available and in a controlled scenario. Moreover, the advantages of intraoperative EGD increase with positive collaboration between a general surgeon and a gastroenterologist.

OBJECTIVES: The study aims to investigate the short-term associations between exposure to ambient air pollution (nitrogen dioxide (NO2), particulate matter pollution-particles with diameter<2.5 µm (PM2.5) and PM10) and incidence of asthma hospital admissions among adults, in Oxford, UK. DESIGN: Retrospective time-series study. SETTING: Oxford City (postcode areas OX1-OX4), UK. PARTICIPANTS: Adult population living within the postcode areas OX1-OX4 in Oxford, UK from 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2021. PRIMARY AND SECONDARY OUTCOME MEASURES: Hourly NO2, PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations and meteorological data for the period 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2020 were analysed and used as exposures. We used Poisson linear regression analysis to identify independent associations between air pollutant concentrations and asthma admissions rate among the adult study population, using both single (NO2, PM2.5, PM10) and multipollutant (NO2 and PM2.5, NO2 and PM10) models, where they adjustment for temperature and relative humidity. RESULTS: The overall 5-year average asthma admissions rate was 78 per 100 000 population during the study period. The annual average rate decreased to 46 per 100 000 population during 2020 (incidence rate ratio 0.58, 95% CI 0.42 to 0.81, p<0.001) compared to the prepandemic years (2015-2019). In single-pollutant analysis, we observed a significantly increased risk of asthma admission associated with each 1 µg/m3 increase in monthly concentrations of NO2 4% (95% CI 1.009% to 1.072%), PM2.5 3% (95% CI 1.006% to 1.052%) and PM10 1.8% (95% CI 0.999% to 1.038%). However, in the multipollutant regression model, the effect of each individual pollutant was attenuated. CONCLUSIONS: Ambient NO2 and PM2.5 air pollution exposure increased the risk of asthma admissions in this urban setting. Improvements in air quality during COVID-19 lockdown periods may have contributed to a substantially reduced acute asthma disease burden. Large-scale measures to improve air quality have potential to protect vulnerable people living with chronic asthma in urban areas.

The article deals with the development of isomeric ruthenium(II)-hydrido complexes [RuII(H)(L1)(PPh3)2(CO)]ClO4 ([1a]ClO4-[1b]ClO4)/[RuII(H)(L2)(PPh3)2(CO)]ClO4 ([2a]ClO4-[2b]ClO4) involving azo coupled L1 [L1: (E)-1,2-bis(1-methyl-1H-pyrazol-3-yl)diazene]/L2 [L2: (E)-1,2-bis(4-iodo-1-methyl-1H-pyrazol-3-yl)diazene], respectively. Structural evaluation of the complexes affirmed the syn conformation of the coordinated/uncoordinated pyrazole groups of L and its unperturbed neutral azo (NN) state. Isomeric forms in [1a]ClO4/[1b]ClO4 or [2a]ClO4/[2b]ClO4 differed with respect to the cis and trans orientations of the coordinated CO and N(azo) donor of L, respectively. It also demonstrated the formation of intermolecular hydrogen-bonded dimeric or 1D-polymeric chains in [1a]ClO4/[2b]ClO4 or [1b]ClO4, respectively. Successive two-electron reductions of the complexes varied to an appreciable extent as a function of the heterocycles connected to L. The involvement of the azo function of L towards the reductions ([NN]0 → [NN]˙- → [NN]2-) was supported by the DFT calculated MOs and Mulliken spin density at the paramagnetic state, which was further validated by the radical EPR profile of the first reduced (S = 1/2) state. Isomeric [1a]ClO4/[1b]ClO4 or [2a]ClO4/[2b]ClO4 immobilised on the carbon cloth support underwent various electrochemical acidic HERs (hydrogen evolution reactions) with TOF/10-1 s-1: [1a]ClO4 (0.83) > [1b]ClO4 (0.68) > [2a]ClO4 (0.50) > [2b]ClO4 (0.37).
