RESUMO

Functional activity of the hypothalamo-hypophyseal-thyroid system was assessed by serum hormones. T3, T4, TSH and TTH were determined with radioimmunoassay. The study included 12 schizophrenics with sexual deviations, 19 schizophrenics without such and 25 mentally healthy subjects. It was found that schizophrenics with deviant behavior differ from those without deviations by subclinical hypothyroidism presenting with elevated levels of TTH in normal levels of T4 and low of T3. Proportions T4/T3 and T4/TSH rose in value. Hormonal and biochemical characteristics obtained confirm the role of endocrine disorders in promoting deviant behavior, thought these are not related to the deviation variety.

RESUMO

RIA was employed to examine 54 test subjects who committed sexual crimes with regard to children of tender age. A syndrome of sexual perversions in the form of pedophilia was discovered in 42 persons. Different patients' groups manifested significant differences in the content of hypophyseal and sexual hormones in the blood serum. A significant lowering of testosterone was revealed in persons with heterosexual pedophilia and with pedophilia without any aggressive and sadistic disorders. They also demonstrated a high prolactin content.

RESUMO

The authors describe the results of a comprehensive examination of 5 persons with chromosomal aberration (47, XYY) manifesting the signs of deviation from normal sexual behavior. The examined were shown to have common dysontogenesis that manifested itself by retardation of the biological basis of sexuality, psychosexual formation together with retardation of the mental processes on the whole. Whatever variants of deviations from normal sexual behavior the common feature was predominance in the libido structure of sadistic aims, that contributed to the revealing of aggressive sexual behavior. Material changes were discovered by radioimmunoassay in the function of the hypothalamohypophyseal and gonadal system in persons with the "YY syndrome". The levels of prolactin and luteinizing hormone along with the LH/FSH ratio appeared significantly elevated. Disorders were also identified in the hypothalamohypophyseal and thyroid system. It is assumed that the discovered changes influence the serotoninergic mechanisms by which aggressive and pathological sexual behavior is formed in such persons.

RESUMO

The paper is concerned with disorders of psychosexual maturity in adolescents (n-70). For that purpose in view a comparative nosological study of the early residual organic psychopathlike conditions (46 cases) and of organic psychopathies (24 cases) formed during the pubertal crisis was done at a forensic psychiatry hospital. According to the data obtained in the majority of the test subjects, there occurred asynchronisms of puberty (80%). Unlike group II (organic psychopathy) where disharmonic puberty was predominant, retarded puberty was recorded most frequently in group I. The main variants of psychosexual maturity were distinguished within the framework of the forms indicated: 2 variants in retardation and 6 variants in disharmonic puberty. Disharmonic puberty, then retarded puberty and pubertas precox were found to be dangerous for the onset of sexual disorders (perversions, deviations). Expert criteria for assessing the depth of sexual disorders were specified in addition. The new data obtained are of importance of both general and forensic psychiatry.

RESUMO

Adolescents with mental disorder (residual organic conditions, psychopathy, schizophrenia, oligophrenia) were examined for hypophyseal thyroid and hypophyseal gonadal hormones in blood serum. The basic group included 98 subjects, the control one 25 mentally healthy subjects. Blood serum hormones were detected by RIA with the aid of kits of reagents manufactured in the USSR, France and Germany. The data obtained point to the presence of the latent hypothyroid condition in patients with psychopathy and schizophrenia, and in part of patients with associated residual organic brain injuries and manifest mental disorders. Comparative assessment of the content of tropic hormones of the pituitary and sex hormones in blood serum with regard to the puberty type has demonstrated that during the pubertal crisis, the study clinico-nosological groups manifested the predominance of disordered types of puberty: dysharmonious (34%), retarded (31%), and accelerated (6%). The hormonal characteristics and clinico-biochemical correlations confirm the role of hormonal disorders in the formation of psychopathological disturbances in adolescents experiencing the pubertal crisis.

RESUMO

The paper is concerned with the results of radioimmunological studies reflecting the importance of the function of the hypothalamohypophyseal-gonadal system in 29 men with the signs of organic brain lesions, against whom criminal proceedings were instituted because of exhibitionism. Among the examinees the subgroups with the hypothalamic and temporal syndromes were distinguished. The data obtained were compared to those in 25 mentally normal men and 17 examinees with residual organic brain lesions without sexual behavior abnormalities. The data derived have demonstrated the impairment of the function of the indicated system in the test subjects, associated with sexual behavior impairment in the form of exhibitionism which may form the biological basis for distortion of sexual self-consciousness.

RESUMO

The serum levels of hypophysis-thyroid hormones, trophic hypophyseal hormones (STH and prolactin), and cortisol were studied in depressed patients. A total of 52 subjects were under investigation: 52 healthy persons (control), 27 depressed patients of which 8 had neurotic and 9 endogenous depression. The data point to a "concealed" hypothyroid state in depressed patients without overt clinical signs of endocrine disorders. The STH and prolactin hypophyseal secretion was upset that was evidenced by the decrease in these hormones blood serum contents (-74% and 37%, respectively). The cortisol blood level was also decreased though to a lesser degree (-15.4%). Different degrees of changes in STH and prolactin levels reflecting the hormones interrelationship, allowed the authors to recommend the STH/prolactin ratio as an additional diagnostic test for neurotic (0.230 +/- 0.058) and endogenous (0.0425 +/- 0.006) depression.

RESUMO

The blood plasma prolactin concentration was studied by radioimmunoassay in males of different age. The hormone level changed depending on age. A decrease in the reproductive function of the males over 40 years can be due to a fall of the blood plasma prolactin content.

RESUMO

The content of prolactin, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estradiol, and progesteron was determined in the blood serum during normal menstrual cycle in 11 healthy women aged from 20 to 35 years. Radioimmunological method indicated the changes in prolactin level during the cycle, as well as in the FSH and LH levels, to be cyclic in character. Prolactin peak revealed in the middle of the cycle coincided with LH and FSH peaks in time. Prolactin and LH level was greater during the lutein than during the folliculin phase; the contrary was true of the FSH level--it was greater in the course of folliculin than during the lutein phase. A postitive correlation was revealed bwtween the prolactin, FSH and LH levels during the cycle, between the FSH and estradiol levels--during the 1st phase and between the LH and progesteron levels--during the 2nd phase of the cycle. However, this correlation between the prolactin and ovarian hormone levels was weak and statistically insignificant.

RESUMO

Administration of alloxan to rats which developed hypothalamic adiposity damaged the pancreatic beta-cells and reduced the insulin secretion, thus arresting further weight gain despite some excess in food ingestion. A conclusion was drawn that in injury of the ventro-medial nuclei of the hypothalamus the most significant mechanism of obesity development was insulin hypersecretion induced by this action.
