RESUMO

The paper provides data on the complex influence of space geophysical factors and meteoreological conditions on the body's nonspecific resistance (BNSR) in Saint Petersburg dwellers. Associations and relationships have been established between the environmental parameters. The leading factors negatively affecting BNSR in the residents of the megapolis have been identified. The changes in the hematological and biochemical parameters characterizing the BNSR have been ascertained to be variable in response to heliogeophysical activity fluctuations and gravitation field changes.

RESUMO

Rheologic properties of blood cells and a state of oxidative-reductive processes and blood systems have been studied in 75 patients in acute period of ischemic stroke. The signs of oxidative stress development and simultaneous augmentation of blood cells aggregation were found. Shifts of redox-equilibrium in thiol-disulfide and ascorbate oxidative-reductive blood systems and cells aggregation dependence on their state were detected. An interrelation of oxidative processes and blood cells aggregation with clinical course severity and outcome was revealed. The authors discuss possible mechanisms for blood cells aggregation in oxidative stress. Including of antioxidants in the pathogenetic therapy and their earlier usage reduce essentially the intensity of oxidative stress and blood cells aggregation and promote neurological symptoms regress. The results obtained allow considering antioxidant treatment as a pathogenic modality for prevention and treatment of ischemic stroke. Clinico-laboratory correlations suggest a pathogenic role of oxidative stress in ischemic stroke as a factor augmenting aggregation processes and promoting intravascular thrombogenesis.

RESUMO

Variations of the gravitational field affected by the Sun and the Moon while the Earth's moving along the orbit seem to be a powerful source of many rhythmical processes typical of biochemical processes. Studies carried out in AARI revealed the obvious relationships between the dynamics of some biochemical reactions and lambda(D)-function describing the regular variations of the gravitational field under combined influence of the Sun and the Moon. The following of them are examined as examples: the rate of the unithiol oxidation in vitro, concentration of the thiol compounds in human urine, some hematological indicators (rate of the erythrocytes sedimentation, hemoglobin content). Compatibility of run of the biochemical indicators and lambda(D)-function is indicative of essential influence of the regular variations of the gravitational field on rhythmics of the biochemical processes. As this takes place, the solar activity acts like to the instability factor. Balance of the solar activity effects and the varying gravitational field effect alter in time depending on location in the solar activity cycle.

RESUMO

It was shown that the detector of extremely weak radiation with selectively increased sensitivity to the nonelectromagnetic, including the gravitational component of the spectrum of active physical fields can be used as the basis for constructing a variometer of gravitational field of a new type.

RESUMO

Fluctuations of "computer time" provided by the PC quartz generator were studied. It was shown that variations in the yearly course of the quartz generator frequency occur with periodicities of 13-15 days and 28-30 days. Regular fluctuations with periods of 0.5 and 1.0 min are typical of the short-term spectral component. Impulses of sharp and intense deceleration of "computer time" are often observed against the background of these regular fluctuations. The conclusion is made that fluctuations of "computer time" are of cosmophysical origin.

RESUMO

Monitoring the content of lymphocytes and nucleated neutrophils (observation period 10.5 months) and the determination of the values of leucocytes coefficient and erythrocyte sedimentation rate in chronic patients revealed rhythms of oscillations of these parameters (from 3-5 to 33 days). The coincidence of these rhythms with the rhythms of variations of gravitational field indicates that gravitational field affects the quantitative blood cell composition and the rheological properties of blood.

RESUMO

Dynamics of the oxidation rate of unithiol (sodium dimercaptopropansulfonate) by sodium nitrite was studied under perfect ecological conditions in Antarctica. Short-term spikes (signals) in optical density of the examined solution were found. Special features of these signals, such as the high penetrating ability, the obvious dependence of number of signals on the Sun' longitude, and the high speed of propagation (V > or = 300,000 km/s), indicate the astrophysical origin and possible gravitational causality of these signals.

RESUMO

The rate of oxidation of unithiol (sodium dimercaptopropansulfonate) by nitrite ion was determined in the course of the annual experiment at the Antarctic station Mirny in 1996-1997. The rhythmic fluctuations in the oxidation rate were found. It is shown that these fluctuations correlate with changes in the velocity of the Earth's forward-rotational movement by the action of the Sun and Moon.

RESUMO

The total mutagenic activity of chemical pollution of the water taken from the Volga water reservoir was investigated after its treatment with chlorine and ozone. The toxicity of the water was absent after its ozone treatment. Mutagens were found to form after water chlorination. Their levels can be reduced by subsequent treatment with ozone in a dose of 0.5 mg/l.

RESUMO

Local and general reactions have been studied after subjecting a rabbit eye to dispersed helium-neon laser radiation, 8 x 10(-6) wt/cm-2, 10 min daily for 10 days. There were recorded increase of blood filling of the uveal tract of the eye, changes in the indices of systemic hemodynamics, systolic and diastolic pressure, stroke and minute volume of blood volume, activation of separate links of antioxidant system connected both with oxidation-reduction of thiol disulfide system and the functioning of antiperoxide enzymes. The activation of antioxidant system has a local character, the changes in the retina of the eye and pigmented epithelium is expressed stronger than in the peripheral blood. The results obtained speak about relationship between the stimulating effect of helium-neon laser radiation on the rabbit eye and activation of antioxidant system.

RESUMO

The method of C. pylori diagnosis proposed by the authors proved more informative that histological detection of the infection. The technique employs evaluation of urease activity in gastric contents. Upon comparison of the two diagnostic modalities in 30 patients with chronic gastroduodenitis and peptic ulcer there was no definite correlation in their results. It was noted that C. pylori invasion produced negligible characteristic symptoms in gastroduodenal affections.

RESUMO

Various components of antioxidant system (concentration of the reduced and oxidated forms of non-protein thiol compounds and ascorbic acid, the activity of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, glutathione reductase, catalase, superoxide dismutase) have been investigated in the blood, brain and liver of growing albino rats. It was found that the specific condition of this system depends on the age of animals and on the source of the system. Disorganization of the antioxidant system in senile animals was noted which results from intensification of free radical oxidation.

RESUMO

The highest ascorbic acid content has been found in a low-molecular fraction (m. w. less than 6000) of water-soluble proteins from brain tissue homogenates of rats, the lowest one--in a high-molecular fraction (m. w. about 65,000). The content of protein-bound ascorbic acid decreases during postnatal life. This process is accompanied by changes in the ratio of the reduced and oxidated forms of the ascorbic acid in favour of the latter.

RESUMO

Some patterns of the antioxidant system were altered in rat blood and tissues after treatment with noise of 90 dB. Phase alterations were found in content of SH- and SS-groups, in ascorbate-dependent redox balance as well as in activity of glutathione reductase, glucose-6-phosphate- and lactate dehydrogenases. These data suggest that the antioxidant system is of importance in the adaptation reactions. Administration of antioxidant drugs (unitol, ascorbic acid and tocopherol) normalized the antioxidant drugs (unitol, ascorbic acid and tocopherol) normalized the antioxidant system patterns studied. These drugs could be used to enhance the nonspecific body resistance to noise stress.
