RESUMO

Thermally sprayed cermet coatings are adequate solutions to improve cavitation and wear resistance of hydraulic turbines made of stainless steel (SS), especially in rivers with a high sediment load, such as the Madeira River in Brazil. However, some cermets are easily dissolved in river water, leading to premature failure of the coating and costly maintenance. Moreover, galvanic corrosion induced by coupling the cermet to a SS can accelerate the coating dissolution. Therefore, the corrosion resistance of six cermets (WC-12Co, WC-10Ni, WC-10Co-4Cr, Cr3C2-25NiCr, Cr3C2-10NiCr and Cr3C2-10Ni) and the galvanic corrosion resistance of these materials coupled to CA6NM SS were evaluated in a solution that simulated Madeira River water. WC-12Co and WC-10Ni cermets exhibited the highest corrosion rates, 0.077 and 0.068 mm/year, respectively, whereas the Cr content in the WC-10Co-4Cr (0.017 mm/year) and Cr3C2-based coatings (0.005 to 0.007 mm/year) led them to corrode at slower rates. Moreover, the WC-10Co-4Cr and Cr3C2-based cermets exhibited negligible galvanic corrosion current when coupled to the CA6NM SS, making them good options to coat hydraulic turbines. In contrast, WC-12Co and WC-10Ni coatings underwent a more severe galvanic corrosion process, which would drastically reduce the lifespan of these materials as hydraulic turbine coatings.

Wear processes are always present in components exposed to different work situations. Hydraulic turbines in electric power generation and ship propellers are good examples of components subject to wear and corrosion. One way to protect these components, for example, is the deposition of coatings by thermal spray processes. Indeed, there are several wear or corrosion mechanisms acting simultaneously, and the validation of the mechanisms separately, is not the best way to select the better material. When materials have passivation as protective mechanism against corrosion, the mass loss due erosion can affect the materials selection. This paper study the combined effect of the corrosion on the cavitation mass loss, as well as, the cavitation mass loss influence on the corrosion properties of a chromium carbide Cr3C2-25NiCr coating. Despite of the modification of the erosion mechanism on the cavitated samples under 3,5% NaCl solution, the volume loss did not show any significant alteration. Cavitation mass loss increase the corrosion process, reducing significantly the corrosion potential and raising the corrosion current. It was observed that the cavitation of the Cr3C2-25NiCr HVOF coating influences much more the corrosion kinetics, than the corrosion affects the cavitation resistance.

The research reported in this paper was designed to study the influence of shared servant leadership on team performance through the mediating effect of team behavioral integration, while validating a new short measure of shared servant leadership. A round-robin approach was used to collect data in two similar studies. Study 1 included 244 undergraduate students in 61 teams following an intense HRM business simulation of 2 weeks. The following year, study 2 included 288 students in 72 teams involved in the same simulation. The most important findings were that (1) shared servant leadership was a strong determinant of team behavioral integration, (2) information exchange worked as the main mediating process between shared servant leadership and team performance, and (3) the essence of servant leadership can be captured on the key dimensions of empowerment, humility, stewardship and accountability, allowing for a new promising shortened four-dimensional measure of shared servant leadership.
