RESUMO

The serum levels of cortisol and glycosaminoglycans (GAG) were studied in patients with uveitis in rheumatic diseases (RD). Among the patients with this pathology, there was a more preponderance of persons with low cortisol levels. In acute uvitis in the presence of RD, the mean serum content of this hormone was significantly lower than that in infectious and idiopathic uveitis. In RD, uveitis ran well with positive changes in the serum levels of cortisol, which increased during treatment. Its poor course was observed when the low content of cortisol remained or decreased still further. GAG exchange in uveitis patients with RD changed: there was an inverse correlation between the level of hyaluronic acid and that of cortisol (r = -0.7994; p = 0.031); the same correlation was found in males between the concentration of summary GAG and that of cortisol (r = -9832; p = 0.003) and chondroitin sulfate (r = -9965; p = 0.001).

RESUMO

The influence of polyunsaturated fatty acids of mare 's milk fat on the cellular composition of the peripheral blood was investigated in male rats after a prolonged period of feeding. Animals were fed with isocaloric purified diet, part fats which on 30% (on caloricity) of fat marers milk (in experements group), in control groups - combination of lard and sunflower oil in which the ratio of fatty acids omega-6/omega-3 was equal to 0,76. At the end of the 6-th week of feeding (on the 6-th day after a single immunization with a 5% sheep erythrocyte suspension) the immunized animals have demonstrated leucocytosis that was marked by a considerable rise in the level of neutrophils and lymphocytes and a twofold increase of monocyte number. Such characteristic changes in leucocytogram exept low monocytosis were not revealed in immunized rats at the end of the 8-th week of feeding (on the 13-th day after a repeated immunization).

RESUMO

The investigation determined whether there was a relationship of thyroid diseases with the geology of the place of residence and its associated spectrum of trace elements (iron, chromium, selenium, manganese, cobalt, copper, nickel, arsenic, and zinc). The geologo-geomorphological factors of the habitat, such as geological formations (mineral composition, structure, the degree of rock metamorphism), tectonics, the history of geological development, relief, paleorelief, were found to be of considerable importance in the formation of the human trace element status. Both deficiency and excess of trace elements was shown to be of pathogenetic value in the development of thyroid diseases. Residence in the area wherein carbonate rocks are predominant contributes to an increase in incidence of thyroid diseases.

RESUMO

Nonspecific and specific immunity values were studied in 70 children before and in various periods after 74 operations on the anterior segment of the eyeball. In children with persistent autosensitization to ocular tissue autoantigens (alpha-crystalline and S-antigen) postoperative uveitis presented as an immunocomplex disease with signs of exhaustion of the functional potential of the phagocytosis and complement systems. In children without autosensitization uveitis was associated with immunity activation. Phagocytosis system and cooperation of lymphocyte subpopulations, including normal killers (CD16+), play an important role in prevention of sensitization to ocular tissue autoantigens. Therefore, complex immunological examinations of children before surgery and regular check-ups after it will help differentiate immunodeficiency from compensatory immunosuppression preventing autoimmune disease, which is important in prescription of immunostimulating therapy.

RESUMO

The influence of essential fatty acids of mare's milk fat on the immunocompetent system and nonspecific resistance of male rats weighing 135-145 g was investigated after 6 weeks of feeding. Rats were fed with isocaloric purified diets containing 15% of test fat (in control--combination of lard and sunflower oil) which provide the ratio of omega-6/omega-3 fatty acids equal to 0.76. An increase of immune responsiveness and nonspecific resistance in the group fed with the diet with mare's milk fat on day 6 after a single immunization of the animals with 5% sheep erythrocyte suspension was noted.

RESUMO

The effect of pyrimidine, levamizol, and prodigiozan on the retarded hypersensitivity (RH) was studied on a model of adoptive transfer of the splenocytes from donors of different ages to young syngeneic recipients. Splenocytes from CBA and BALB/c suckers, receiving pyrimidine, activate the RH suppression. Levamizol and prodigiozan exert the same effect on BALB/c mice and inhibit the RH suppression in CBA mice. In mature CBA mice these preparations potentiate HST. The splenocytes from young and aged BALB/c donors receiving the preparations oppositely induce the RH recipients.

RESUMO

The authors discuss the effect of immunological shifts in 102 children with hyperthyroidism goiter on the outcomes of surgical treatment. Deviations in the immune status of children suffering from this disease were found to have an unfavourable effect on the outcome of surgical treatment. Recurrences were more frequent and postoperative hypothyroidism developed. The initial condition of the immune status helps in prognosing the further course of the pathological process and guides the therapeutic correction in the pre- and postoperative periods.
