RESUMO

A case of tuberculosis of the parotid gland, which involved the intraparotid lymph nodes of a 39-year-old Thai man is reported. The histologic characteristics of caseating granulomas with presence of acid and alcohol fast bacilli were criteria for diagnosis. This case is thought to be the first report of tuberculosis of the parotid gland in Thailand.

RESUMO

A case of paraganglioma arising in the common hepatic duct is reported. The patient presented with obstructive jaundice. At operation, a soft mass, 5 X 2 X 1.8 cm, was found firmly adherent to the intraluminal surface of the common hepatic duct. At cholecystectomy, exploration of the common hepatic duct was performed and the mass was partially removed. T-tube choledochostomy and operative cholangiography were performed. The final pathological report was paraganglioma of the common hepatic duct. The patient was clinically improved on discharge.

RESUMO

The first fatal case of disseminated infection due to Conidiobolus incongruus is reported. The patient presented with a subcutaneous mass, febrility, weight loss, cough and hemoptysis. Histological examination of skin and subcutaneous tissue, lung, lymph nodes, esophagus, liver and jejunum showed a granulomatous reaction with bright eosinophilic amorphous material and broad hyphae. A fungus cultured from skin and subcutaneous tissue was identified as Conidiobolus incongruus.

RESUMO

Four cases of fatal strongyloidiasis were reported from Thailand; two were malnourished young inmates from the same Government-Institution while two were adults receiving corticosteroid therapy for pemphigus vulgaris and systemic lupus erythematosus. The clinical and pathological findings of all cases were briefly described. Special emphasis is made in treatment of malnourished young children especially those living in the institution with possibility of such parasitic hyperinfection superimposed by other organisms. A single course of thiabendazole in strongyloidiasis is inadequate, especially in those immunosuppressive hosts.
