Semidirect Resin Composite Veneers in a Patient with Bruxism.

This case report details the esthetic rehabilitation of a 32-year-old male patient suffering from sleep bruxism, primarily manifesting as a fracture and significant loss of tooth structure in the anterior maxillary central incisors. To address these concerns, the patient underwent a restorative treatment involving the application of semidirect resin composite veneers on the maxillary incisors and direct resin composite restoration on the incisal regions of the maxillary canines. This approach not only restored the functional integrity of the teeth but also significantly enhanced the patient's esthetic appearance.

Determinants for traumatic orofacial injuries in sport: Extrinsic factors in a scoping review.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Sports practices carry a risk for orofacial injuries and, to avoid them, preventive measures are necessary. The aim of this study was to investigate a web of extrinsic determinants for orofacial trauma in sports. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Through a scoping review, eight extrinsic risk factors for sports-related orofacial trauma emerged from the thematic analysis. These were sports modality, sports philosophy, competition rules, level of competition, accessory equipment, environmental conditions, acting regimen, pitch conditions, and human resources. The data collection was conducted on seven databases, using terms based on health science descriptors and keywords related to orofacial trauma and sports. RESULTS: From the 1155 articles found, 157 were selected based on eligibility criteria and classified according to the mentioned factors. After the full reading of the articles, the most cited risk factor was sports modality while acting regimen and environmental factors were the least mentioned. Therefore, a scheme following the web of determinants was constructed with the purpose of establishing a risk profile, which was based on the interactions between the determinants and on the frequency that they were mentioned as contributors to injury. From this, it was observed that each traumatic event is possibly a result of the interrelationships among the eight suggested determinants. CONCLUSION: Sports modality was the most cited extrinsic determinant observed in the literature, while environmental conditions and acting regimen were the least cited. In addition, more than establishing the determinants, it is necessary to comprehend how they relate, once preventive strategies should intercede on these relations, to help reduce sports injuries.

Clareamento interno/externo para dentes desvitalizados / Inside/Outside bleaching of nonvital teeth

A alteração de cor dos dentes isolados pode impactar negativamente na autoestima dos indivíduos, portanto é necessária a seleção de um tratamento adequado para a resolução de cada caso. Este caso clínico objetivou demonstrar o tratamento de um dente isolado com descoloração dental mediante clareamento dental do tipo interno/externo. O procedimento consistiu na realização do tratamento clareador do tipo interno/externo no dente escurecido e tratamento clareador caseiro nos demais dentes. O resultado apresentou-se satisfatório, especialmente pelo fato de ser uma opção de tratamento conservadora, efetiva e de custo-benefício favorável, a qual permite que opções menos conservadoras, como coroas e facetas, possam ser realizadas futuramente, caso houver necessidade.

Single discolored tooth can impact negatively the self-esteem of the individual, therefore selecting the most appropriate treatment for the resolution of each case is necessary. The aim of this case report was to demonstrate the treatment of a single discolored tooth, through the inside/ouside bleaching technique. Treatment planning consisted in internal/external bleaching of the single discolored tooth and home bleaching technique of the other teeth. A satisfactory result was obtained, in addition to being a conservative, effective and cost-effective treatment option. This allows for less conservative options, such as crowns and veneers, to be performed in the future, if necessary.
