BACKGROUND: Interaction analysis via movement in space and time contributes to understanding social relationships among individuals and their dynamics in ecological systems. While there is an exciting growth in research in computational methods for interaction analysis using movement data, there remain challenges regarding reproducibility and replicability of the existing approaches. The current movement interaction analysis tools are often less accessible or tested for broader use in ecological research. RESULTS: To address these challenges, this paper presents ORTEGA, an Object-oRiented TimE-Geographic Analytical tool, as an open-source Python package for analyzing potential interactions between pairs of moving entities based on the observation of their movement. ORTEGA is developed based on one of the newly emerged time-geographic approaches for quantifying space-time interaction patterns among animals. A case study is presented to demonstrate and evaluate the functionalities of ORTEGA in tracing dynamic interaction patterns in animal movement data. Besides making the analytical code and data freely available to the community, the developed package also offers an extension of the existing theoretical development of ORTEGA for incorporating a context-aware ability to inform interaction analysis. CONCLUSIONS: ORTEGA contributes two significant capabilities: (1) the functions to identify potential interactions (e.g., encounters, concurrent interactions, delayed interactions) from movement data of two or more entities using a time-geographic-based approach; and (2) the capacity to compute attributes of potential interaction events including start time, end time, interaction duration, and difference in movement parameters such as speed and moving direction, and also contextualize the identified potential interaction events.

RESUMO

In this paper, two new species of Buprestis subgenus Akiyamaia Kurosawa, 1988 are described: B. (A.) gengmini Qi & Song, new species from Yunnan Province, China and B. (A.) wenii Qi & Song, new species from Yen Bai Province, Vietnam. The descriptions and illustrations of two new species are provided, and the diagnostic characters are provided to distinguish the two new species from other related species. A key is given for identification of all Akiyamaia species.The holotype of B. (A.) costipennis (Fairmaire, 1891) and pictures of living individuals are illustrated for the first time.

RESUMO

Background: Chrysochroinae Laporte de Castelnau, 1835 is the very colourful subfamily of Buprestidae. There are 127 species and subspecies of the subfamily which have been recorded in China. New information: In this paper, we reported three genera, two subgenera and five species of the subfamily Chrysochroinae Laporte de Castelnau, 1835 (Coleoptera, Buprestidae) which are all newly recorded from China. These reported taxa belong to two tribes and four genera: Chrysochroa (Chroodema) corbetti (Kerremans, 1893), Chrysochroa (Pyranthe) fulgens ephippigera White, 1843, Demochroa (Demoxantha) gratiosa indica Csiki, 1900, Xanthocatabonvouloirii (Deyrolle, 1861) (all the above four being Chrysochroini) and Cardiaspismouhotii E. Saunders, 1866 (Dicercini). The five newly-recorded species are briefly described, illustrated and supplemented with relevant biological information.

RESUMO

A new species Coomaniella sunfengyii Liao, Su, Qi & Song, sp. nov. from Fujian Province, China, is described and placed in the Coomaniella macropus species-group. The description, illustrations, host plant information and diagnostic characters of the new species are provided.

RESUMO

In this paper, the subgenus Thailandia Bílý, 1990 of the genus Anthaxia Eschscholtz, 1829 from China is reported, including two species: A. (T.) svatoplukbilyi Qi & Song, sp. nov. from Guangxi and A. (T.) rondoni Baudon, 1962 from Yunnan. The description and illustrations of the new species are provided, the illustrations and information of A. (T.) rondoni from Yunnan are given for the first time, and the diagnostic characters are provided to distinguish the new species from other related species.

In this study, the most recent American Time Use Surveys containing reported activity-based emotions and sensations information before (10,378 respondents in 2013) and during (6,902 respondents in 2021) the COVID-19 pandemic are used to assess if time use related individuals' subjective wellbeing (SWB) decreased in the pandemic. Given that the coronavirus has been shown to strongly influence activity decisions and social interactions, sequence analysis is applied to find daily time allocation patterns and changes in daily time allocation. Then, those derived daily patterns and other activity-travel factors, as well as social and demographic, temporal, spatial, and other contextual characteristics are added as explanatory variables in regression models of SWB measures. This provides a holistic framework of exploring the direct and indirect effects (via activity-travel schedules) of the recent pandemic on SWB while controlling for contexts such as the life assessments, daily schedule of activities, and living environment. The results show that respondents in the COVID year reported a new time allocation pattern that has a substantial amount of time at home, and they experienced more negative emotions. Three relatively happier daily patterns in 2021 contained substantial amounts of outdoor and indoor activities. In addition, no significant correlation was observed between metropolitan areas and individuals' SWB in 2021. However, comparisons among states show Texas and Florida residents experienced more positive wellbeing presumably due to fewer COVID-related restrictions.

RESUMO

A new stag beetle is described from Yunnan Province, China: Lucanus jiaozishanus Qi, He, Su & Song, new species. It is the third species of the L. boileaui group which are distributed only in Southwestern China and Northeastern Myanmar. The differences of the new species with the more related taxa (L. boileaui Planet, 1897, L. ludivinae Boucher, 1998 and L. takeoi Adachi, 2020) are discussed. A new synonymy, L. bidentis Schenk, 2013 = L. boileaui, is proposed. Keys to males and females of the L. boileaui group are provided. The variation of males, the female and the host plant of L. takeoi (L. maculifemoratus group) are illustrated for the first time.

RESUMO

Three new species of the genus Brachyllus Brenske, 1896 are described from China including Brachyllus songhaitiani Zhao, Qi, Su & Liao, new species from Fujian and Jiangxi, B. dongzhiweii Zhao, new species from Xizang and B. tangzhaoyangi Zhao, new species from Guangxi. Brachyllus langeri Keith, 2008 is downgraded to a subspecies of B. rougeriei Keith, 2003 and reported from China for the first time. Newly collected material of B. deuveianus Keith, 2003 allows better definition of its variability. A distribution map for this genus is also presented.

PURPOSE: To investigate the safety and efficacy of nitrous oxide/oxygen inhalation sedation assisted in elderly hypertensive patients under local anesthesia during tooth extraction. METHODS: Forty elderly patients (age≥70 years) with hypertension who needed tooth extraction with electrocardiographic monitoring were selected, and divided into experimental and control groups randomly, with 20 patients in each group. The experimental group was treated with nitrous oxide/oxygen inhalation sedation and local anesthesia for surgery, the control group underwent tooth extraction under local anesthesia. Heart rate, blood pressure, as well as differences of operative time in all groups before surgery, during operation and after surgery were observed and compared. SPSS 11.0 software package was used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: The intraoperative HR, BP of patients in the control group was significantly higher than those of patients in the experimental group (P<0.05). HR, BP were relatively stable during the whole procedure in the experimental group. Compared with the control group, surgery was significantly longer in the experimental group (P<0.05). The difference was statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS: Nitrous oxide/oxygen inhalation sedation assisted local anesthesia can be a safe and effective anesthetic method in tooth extraction of elderly patients with hypertension. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the changes in hemodynamics and depth of anesthesia under monitored anesthesia care (MAC) in patients undergoing percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy (PDT). METHODS: Forty-six patients with oral cancer were divided into two groups with 23 cases each: Local anesthesia group (group L) and MAC group (group M). Local and intratracheal surface anesthesia were performed with 2% lidocaine in group L. Midazolam, propofol and fentanyl were added to group M after local and intratracheal surface anesthesia, then PDT was carried out. During the induction, observer's assessment of alertness/sedation(OAA/S) scale was used to assess the depth of sedation. Mean arterial blood pressure (MAP), heart rate (HR), state entropy (SE) and response entropy (RE) were recorded before anesthesia (basal value, T1), after local anesthesia (T2), after intravenous administration/before incision (T3), during incision (T4), during dilating with stretching pliers (T5) and endotracheal intubation (T6). A postoperative follow-up was taken in group M. RESULTS: MAP and HR increased significantly at T4-T6 in group L and decreased at T3 (P < 0.05) with no change at T4-T6 in group M compared with those in T1. MAP and HR at T3-T6 in group M were obviously lower than those in group L. SE and RE at T3-T6 in group M were obviously lower than those at T1 or in group L (P < 0.01) and decreased significantly with the reduction of OAA/S scale (P < 0.05) during the induction. Intraoperative awareness in group M was not found through postoperative follow-up. CONCLUSION: Patients undergoing PDT under MAC has more comfortability, more stable hemodynamics and no memory, so MAC is a better anesthesia for PDT than local anesthesia.
