RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to explore the effects of in-hospital exercise rehabilitation on glucose and lipid metabolism and healthy physical fitness in middle-aged and elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) combined with sarcopenia, and to provide a reference for the effective implementation of exercise rehabilitation for middle-aged and elderly patients with T2DM combined with sarcopenia in healthcare institutions. METHODS: This study retrospectively included 122 patients with T2DM combined with sarcopenia treated at the General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University from August 2017 to August 2020 and randomly divided into a control group and an experimental group. The control group was given conventional treatment and the experimental group was given exercise rehabilitation in the hospital for 12 weeks to compare the indexes related to glucose and lipid metabolism and healthy fitness in the two groups. RESULTS: After the intervention, the experimental group showed significant decreases in fasting blood glucose (FBG), glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR), triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), low-density cholesterol (LDL-C) and body fat percentage (p < 0.05), while high-density cholesterol (HDL-C), grip strength, lower limb extension, lower limb flexion, peak oxygen uptake were significantly higher (p < 0.05) and were more significant at 12 weeks compared to the 6-week intervention (p < 0.05). However, there were no significant changes in any of the glucose metabolism indicators in the control group before and after the intervention. A two-way repeated measures ANOVA showed that at control baseline levels, HbA1c decreased significantly in the experimental group after both 6 and 12 weeks of intervention compared to the control group (p < 0.05). After 6 weeks of intervention, the experimental group showed a significant decrease in body fat percentage and a significant increase in grip strength. After 12 weeks of intervention, the experimental group showed an increase in glycemic control from 33.3% to 73.3%, a significant decrease in body fat percentage and a significant increase in grip strength, lower limb extension and lower limb flexion strength and peak oxygen uptake. CONCLUSION: In-hospital exercise rehabilitation can effectively improve the glycemic and lipid profiles of patients with T2DM combined with sarcopenia and enhance their health fitness, with good clinical rehabilitation effects.

RESUMO

Structural and physical properties of armchair MoSi2N4 nanoribbons substitutionally doped by 3d transition metals (TM) at Mo sites are investigated using the density functional theory combined with the non-equilibrium Green's function method. TM doping can convert the nonmagnetic direct semiconductor into device materials of a broad variety, including indirect semiconductors, half semiconductors, metals, and half metals. Furthermore the 100% spin filtering behavior in spin-up and spin-down half metals, a negative differential resistance with peak-to-valley ratio over 140 and a rectification effect with ratio over 130 are predicted, as well as semiconductor behavior with high spin polarization.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are closely associated with the initiation, progression, metastasis, and recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). They could therefore serve as markers for the early diagnosis and for the prognosis of HCC patients. METHODS: This was an observational prospective cohort study. A total of 101 participants were included, comprising patients with HCC (n = 61), liver cirrhosis (LC) (n = 20), or healthy controls (HC) (n = 20). The baseline characteristics of participants in each group were compared. Serum levels of the lncRNAs HOTAIR, BRM and ICR were determined in each group by reverse transcription and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Correlations between the serum levels of the three lncRNAs and multiple clinical parameters were analysed. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to assess the diagnostic potential for HCC of each lncRNA individually, or in combination with AFP. Multivariate Cox regression analysis was used to evaluate the accuracy of these lncRNAs for predicting the outcome and survival of HCC patients. RESULTS: The serum levels of HOTAIR, BRM and ICR were significantly higher in HCC patients compared to LC patients and healthy subjects. The HOTAIR level was positively correlated to tumour-node metastasis (TNM), Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) stage, extrahepatic metastasis, vascular invasion, portal vein tumour thrombus (PVTT), and tumour size. The BRM level was positively associated with TNM stage, BCLC stage, vascular invasion, PVTT, and tumour size, while the ICR level was positively correlated with PVTT. A combination of the three lncRNAs and AFP showed the highest diagnostic accuracy for HCC, with an AUC of 0.998, sensitivity of 98.4%, and specificity of 100.0%. This combination showed a better diagnostic accuracy than the individual lncRNAs or AFP alone. Serum levels of the HOTAIR and ICR lncRNAs decreased significantly following surgery. CONCLUSIONS: Serum levels of the HOTAIR, BRM and ICR lncRNAs are potential prognostic markers for HCC. Upregulation of HOTAIR, BRM and ICR may facilitate early diagnosis and indicate poor prognosis for HCC. These lncRNAs could potentially serve as therapeutic targets for HCC. Combination of the three lncRNAs with AFP may increase the diagnostic accuracy for HCC. Further studies in larger cohorts of patients are needed to validate these findings.

RESUMO

A stretchable and self-healable conductive material with high conductivity is critical to high-performance wearable electronics and integrated devices for applications where large mechanical deformation is involved. While there has been great progress in developing stretchable and self-healable conducting materials, it remains challenging to concurrently maintain and recover such functionalities before and after healing. Here, a highly stretchable and autonomic self-healable conducting film consisting of a conducting polymer (poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate), PEDOT:PSS) and a soft-polymer (poly(2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonic acid), PAAMPSA) is reported. The optimal film exhibits outstanding stretchability as high as 630% and high electrical conductivity of 320 S cm-1 , while possessing the ability to repair both mechanical and electrical breakdowns when undergoing severe damage at ambient conditions. This polymer composite film is further utilized in a tactile sensor, which exhibits good pressure sensitivity of 164.5 kPa-1 , near hysteresis-free, an ultrafast response time of 19 ms, and excellent endurance over 1500 consecutive presses. Additionally, an integrated 5 × 4 stretchable and self-healable organic electrochemical transistor (OECT) array with great device performance is successfully demonstrated. The developed stretchable and autonomic self-healable conducting film significantly increases the practicality and shelf life of wearable electronics, which in turn, reduces maintenance costs and build-up of electronic waste.

RESUMO

The aim of this study was to evaluate the chemical compounds of garlic essential oil (EO), and determine the antifungal efficacy of garlic EO and its major components, diallyl trisulfide and its nanoemulsions against wood-rotting fungi, Trametes hirsuta and Laetiporus sulphureus. GC-MS analysis revealed that the major constituents of garlic EO were diallyl trisulfide (39.79%), diallyl disulfide (32.91%), and diallyl sulfide (7.02%). In antifungal activity, the IC50 value of garlic EO against T. hirsuta and L. sulphureus were 137.3 and 44.6 µg/mL, respectively. Results from the antifungal tests demonstrated that the three major constituents were shown to have good antifungal activity, in which, diallyl trisulfide was the most effective against T. hirsuta and L. sulphureus, with the IC50 values of 56.1 and 31.6 µg/mL, respectively. The diallyl trisulfide nanoemulsions showed high antifungal efficacy against the examined wood-rotting fungi, and as the amount of diallyl trisulfide in the lipid phase increases, the antifungal efficacy of the nanoemulsions increases. These results showed that the nanoemulsions and normal emulsion of diallyl trisulfide have potential to develop into a natural wood preservative.

RESUMO

Gold catalysts have attracted attention for enabling sustainable chemical processes under ambient conditions. This reactivity is attributed to the small size of the catalysts (<5 nm); however, their size also creates difficulty when removing from product streams and often require rare-metal additives to enhance reaction rate kinetics, thereby limiting the environmental benefits of these catalysts. Comparatively, submicron gold catalysts are easier to separate but are much less reactive under ambient conditions. In this study, we synthesized submicron gas-stabilising gold nanocones (gs-AuNCs) that are acoustically responsive to afford greater reaction rates than other conventional gold catalysts. We explore the catalytic performance of acoustically responsive gs-AuNCs exposed to focussed ultrasound at 5.0 MPa peak negative pressure and 1.1 MHz center frequency. Cavitation nucleated from gs-AuNCs significantly increased the sonocatalytic degradation of water pollutants without the need for co-catalysts. The ability to amplify catalysis with ultrasound by tailoring the morphology of the catalyst to control cavitation opens new paths for future designs of sonocatalysts that may enable a sustainable chemical approach needed for a broad range of industrial processes.

RESUMO

Clinically, a large proportion of glaucoma patients undergo repeated intraocular pressure (IOP) spike (Spike IOP) attacks during their sleep, which may facilitate retinopathy. In this study, we established a mouse model of repeated transient Spike IOP to investigate the direct damage to the retina following Spike IOP attacks, and elucidated the underlying molecular mechanism. We analyzed the changes in the number of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) via immunofluorescence. Thereafter, we detected retinal cell apoptosis via terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase deoxyuridine triphosphate (dUTP) nick-end labeling (TUNEL) staining, and performed RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) to reveal the underlying molecular mechanism. Finally, we validated the expression of key molecules in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress pathway using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and western blot analysis. Results revealed a time-dependent RGC loss in Spike IOP, evidenced by a reduction in the number of Brn3a-positive RGCs in experimental eyes following a 7-d continuous treatment with Spike IOP. In addition, TUNEL staining indicated that apoptosis of retinal cells started in the outer nuclear layer (ONL), and then spread to the ganglion cell layer (GCL) with time. RNA-seq analysis revealed that ER stress might be involved in Spike IOP-induced retinal injury. This result was corroborated by western blot, which revealed upregulation of ER stress-related proteins including binding immunoglobulin protein/glucose-regulated protein 78 (BiP/GRP78), phosphorylated inositol-requiring enzyme 1 (p-IRE1), unspliced X-box-binding protein 1 (XBP1-u), spliced X-box-binding protein 1 (XBP1-s), phosphorylated c-Jun N-terminal kinase (p-JNK), C/EBP-homologous protein (CHOP), and B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2)-associated X protein (Bax). These findings indicate that repeated IOP transients are detrimental to the retina, while ER stress plays an important role in retinal cell apoptosis in this situation. Notably, repeated Spike IOP among glaucoma patients is a crucial factor for progressive retinopathy.

RESUMO

For site-specific diseases such as atherosclerosis, it is desirable to noninvasively and locally deliver therapeutics for extended periods of time. High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) provides targeted drug delivery, yet remains unable to sustain delivery beyond the HIFU treatment time. Furthermore, methods to validate HIFU-enhanced drug delivery remain limited. In this study, we report on HIFU-targeted implantation of degradable drug-loaded sound-sensitive multicavity PLGA microparticles (mcPLGA MPs) as a theranostic agent for the treatment of arterial lesions. Once implanted into the targeted tissue, mcPLGA MPs eluted dexamethasone for several days, thereby reducing inflammatory markers linked to oxidized lipid uptake in a foam cell spheroid model. Furthermore, implanted mcPLGA MPs created hyperechoic regions on diagnostic ultrasound images, and thus noninvasively verified that the target region was treated with the theranostic agents. This novel and innovative multifunctional theranostic platform may serve as a promising candidate for noninvasive imaging and treatment for site-specific diseases such as atherosclerosis.

RESUMO

Diabetes mellitus (DM), a metabolic disorder, is the causes of oxidative stress leading to complications in micro- and macro-vascular system. The present study investigated sophocarpine for anti-diabetic potential in vivo in mice model. Sophocarpine administration to diabetic mice significantly (p < 0.05) attenuated glucose content in the plasma. The diabetes mediated lowering of GSH, ceruloplasmin and vitamin E was prevented in mice plasma by sophocarpine administration. Sophocarpine significantly (p < 0.05) reversed diabetes mediated suppression of insulin level and total Hb content in the mice plasma. In sophocarpine administrated diabetic mice C-peptide level was elevated and glycosylated hemoglobin content was suppressed significantly (p < 0.05) relative to diabetic group. Administration of sophocarpine significantly (p < 0.05) repressed diabetes mediated increase in TG and TC levels in dose-based manner. Administration of sophocarpine exhibited preventive role against diabetes mediated pathological damage to pancreas in the mice. Sophocarpine administration to diabetic mice repressed PPARγ recruitment significantly (p < 0.05) in dose-dependent manner. Sophocarpine prevents oxidative stress mediated pancreatic damage through increase in vitamin E, GSH and C-peptide levels, Moreover, the PPARγ activity was down-regulated, LDL-c content lowered and HDL-c level elevated in diabetic mice by sophocarpine. Therefore, sophocarpine may be developed for treatment of diabetes, however, further in vivo studies need to confirm the same.

RESUMO

Polymer nanoparticles and microparticles have been used primarily for drug delivery. There is now growing interest in further developing polymer-based solid cavitation agents to also enhance ultrasound imaging. We previously reported on a facile method to produce hollow poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) microparticles with different diameters and degrees of porosity. Here, we investigate the cavitation response from these PLGA microparticles with both therapeutic and diagnostic ultrasound transducers. Interestingly, all formulations exhibited stable cavitation; larger porous and multicavity particles also provided inertial cavitation at elevated acoustic pressure amplitudes. These larger particles also achieved contrast enhancement comparable to that of commercially available ultrasound contrast agents, with a maximum recorded contrast-to-tissue ratio of 28 dB. Therefore, we found that multicavity PLGA microparticles respond to both therapeutic and diagnostic ultrasound and may be applied as a theranostic agent.

RESUMO

Purpose: Patients with nanophthalmos who undergo intraocular surgery often present with abnormal ciliary zonules. In a previous study, we reported mutation in MYRF that is implicated in the pathogenesis of nanophthalmos. The aim of this study was to model the mutation in mice to explore the role of MYRF on zonule structure and its major molecular composition, including FBN1 and FBN2. Methods: Human MYRF nanophthalmos frameshift mutation was generated in mouse using the CRISPR-Cas9 system. PCR and Sanger sequencing were used for genotype analysis of the mice model. Anterior chamber depth (ACD) was measured using hematoxylin and eosin-stained histology samples. Morphologic analysis of ciliary zonules was carried out using silver staining and immunofluorescence. Transcript and protein expression levels of MYRF, FBN1, and FBN2 in ciliary bodies were quantified using quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) and Western blot. Results: A nanophthalmos frameshift mutation (c.789delC, p.N264fs) of MYRF in mice showed ocular phenotypes similar to those reported in patients with nanophthalmos. ACD was reduced in MYRF mutant mice (MYRFmut/+) compared with that in littermate control mice (MYRF+/+). In addition, the morphology of ciliary zonules showed reduced zonular fiber density and detectable structural dehiscence of zonular fibers. Furthermore, qRT-PCR analysis and Western blot showed a significant decrease in mRNA expression levels of MYRF, FBN1, and FBN2 in MYRFmut/+ mice. Conclusions: Changes in the structure and major molecular composition of ciliary zonules accompanied with shallowing anterior chamber were detected in MYRFmut/+ mice. Therefore, MYRF mutant mice strain is a useful model for exploring pathogenesis of zonulopathy, which is almost elusive for basic researches due to lack of appropriate animal models.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the role of early enteral nutrition support (ENN) on the improvement of immune function and physical recovery of patients with colon carcinoma. METHODS: The patients with colon carcinoma treated in our hospital from November 2018 to November 2019 were obtained and randomly grouped into the control group (CG) and the early enteral nutrition support group (ENN group). The changes of nutritional status and immune function related indexes, the changes of inflammatory reaction indexes, and the physical recovery and complication rate were compared between groups. RESULTS: Before operation, there was no evident difference between the two groups in nutrition index level (serum transferrin, albumin, prealbumin and hemoglobin), immune function index level (IgA, IgG, IgM, CD4+, CD8+, CD4+/CD8+) and inflammatory reaction indices (CRP, PGE, IL-6) (P>0.05). After operation, weight loss, incision cicatrized time, postoperative defecation time, getting up after operation and length of hospital stay of the ENN group were better than those of the CG. The change of nutritional indexes was also evidently better in the ENN group. Immune function was evidently improved compared with the CG. The level of inflammatory reaction factors was also evidently lower in the ENN group, and the incidence of postoperative complications was evidently lower than that of the CG, and the physical recovery was also better than that of the CG (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: ENN for patients with colon carcinoma can improve their immune function, improve their nutritional level and promote their physical recovery.

RESUMO

A field measurement study of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) was performed in January 2015 in the urban areas of two of the most important cities of the Yangtze River Delta: Nanjing and Suzhou. The objectives of this study included comparing the characteristics of VOC concentrations, comparing the impacts of emissions on VOCs, using species ratios to assess air mass age, and evaluating ozone formation potential (OFP) and secondary organic aerosol formation potential (SOAP) in air masses. The VOC concentrations in Nanjing (34.6 ± 5.8 ppbv) were higher than those of Suzhou (28.1 ± 5.6 ppbv). The most abundant VOC measured was ethane (6.6 ppbv in Nanjing and 3.6 ppbv in Suzhou). Relevant analysis shows that motor vehicle emissions in Suzhou were dominant, whereas industrial emissions in Nanjing also contributed to VOCs. During rush hour, the VOC concentrations in Nanjing were the highest (35.3 ppbv). The T/B ratio (0.92-1.79) for the two sites was observed to be relatively low in the other studied cities, indicating the source impact of traffic emissions in the two sites. Indicators X/B (0.26-0.39) and X/E (0.33-0.66) also confirmed an aging air mass was transported at the two sampling sites. According to principal component factor analysis results, vehicle emissions (44.8% in Nanjing and 30.6% in Suzhou) were the most important contribution to the two sites. Industrial sites were not only likely to experience industrial emissions but were affected by traffic emissions. Using the OFP method, both sites showed the largest percentage of alkenes (59.9% in Nanjing and 62.0% in Suzhou). When comparing SOAP, both sites showed an absolute majority of aromatics (97.6% in Nanjing and 98.3% in Suzhou). To control the formation of O3 and SOA in the two sites, it is necessary to reduce the concentration of alkenes and aromatics, respectively. By CPF analysis, pollutants transported from the SE and NE have significant effects on the Nanjing site. In the Suzhou, roads and industrial parks in the SE and S of Suzhou have significant impacts on the site.

RESUMO

Ultrasound-enhanced drug delivery has shown great promise in providing targeted burst release of drug at the site of the disease. Yet current solid ultrasound-responsive particles are non-degradable with limited potential for drug-loading. Here, we report on an ultrasound-responsive multi-cavity poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) microparticle (mcPLGA MP) loaded with rhodamine B (RhB) with or without 4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) to represent small molecule therapeutics. After exposure to high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), these delivery vehicles were remotely implanted into gel and porcine tissue models, where the particles rapidly released their payload within the first day and sustained release for at least seven days. RhB-mcPLGA MPs were implanted with HIFU into and beyond the sub-endothelial space of porcine arteries without observable damage to the artery. HIFU also guided the location of implantation; RhB-mcPLGA MPs were only observed at the focus of the HIFU away from the direction of ultrasound. Once implanted, DAPI co-loaded RhB-mcPLGA MPs released DAPI into the arterial wall, staining the nucleus of the cells. Our work shows the potential for HIFU-guided implantation of drug-loaded particles as a strategy to improve the local and sustained delivery of a therapeutic for up to two weeks.

RESUMO

Support vector machine regression (SVMr) was proposed to forecast hourly ozone (O3) concentrations, daily maximum O3 concentrations, and maximum 8 h moving average O3 concentrations (O3 8 h) by employing the observations of meteorological variables and O3 and its precursors during the high O3 periods from May 20 to August 15, 2016 at an industrial area in Nanjing. The squared correlation coefficient (R2) of the hourly O3 concentrations forecast was 0.84. The mean absolute error (MAE) and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) were 3.44×10-9 and 24.48, respectively. The key factors for the hourly O3 forecast were the O3 pre-concentrations, amount of ultraviolet radiation B (UVB), and the NO2 concentration. The main factors for the O3 daily maximum forecast were the NOx concentrations at 07:00 and the UVB level. Temperature and UVB played an important role in predicting O3 8 h. In general, taking precursors into account could increase the accuracy of O3 prediction by 10%-28%. For O3 concentration forecasting, SVMr gave significantly better predictions than multiple linear regression methods.

RESUMO

Spider silks are attractive biopolymers due to their excellent mechanical properties and biomimetic potential. To optimize the electrostatic interaction for lysosomal drug delivery, a spider-eggcase-silk protein was genetically engineered using 5× His Tag with a tailor-made isoelectric point of 4.8. By a facile HFIP-on-oil method, silk spheres were assembled as rapidly as 10 s. After the post-treatment of ethanol, silk spheres were determined with an improved compressive modulus by AFM indentation. Under incubation of silk spheres in a Doxorubicin solution, a maximum of 35% loading and average of 30% loading efficiency were determined. In the cytotoxicity experiment, silk spheres exhibited intrinsic biocompatibility and showed good control of the loaded drug in the neutral PBS solution. Significantly, by 96 h, the accumulative drug release at pH 4.5 was approximately 4.5-fold higher than that at pH 7.4. By conducting the platelet adhesion and hemolysis assay, Doxorubicin-loaded silk spheres exhibited good hemocompatibility. To further demonstrate this release behavior, within 24 h, Doxorubicin-loaded silk spheres were efficiently delivered to lysosomes and then released the payload to the nuclei of Hela cells.

RESUMO

A novel graphene quantum dot (GQD)@Fe3O4@SiO2 based nanoprobe was reported for targeted drug delivery, sensing, dual-modal imaging and therapy. Carboxyl-terminated GQD (C-GQD) was firstly conjugated with Fe3O4@SiO2 and then functionalized with cancer targeting molecule folic acid (FA). DOX drug molecules were then loaded on GQD surface of Fe3O4@SiO2@GQD-FA nanoprobe via pi-pi stacking, which resulted in Fe3O4@SiO2@GQD-FA/DOX conjugates based on a FRET mechanism with GQD as donor molecules and DOX as acceptor molecules. Meanwhile, we successfully performed in vitro MRI and fluorescence imaging of living Hela cells and monitored intracellular drug release process using this Fe3O4@SiO2@GQD-FA/DOX nanoprobe. Cell viability study demonstrated the low cytotoxicity of Fe3O4@SiO2@GQD-FA nanocarrier and the enhanced therapeutic efficacy of Fe3O4@SiO2@GQD-FA/DOX nanoprobe for cancer cells. This luminomagnetic nanoprobe will be a potential platform for cancer accurate diagnosis and therapy.

The co-delivery of siRNA and therapeutic agents provides an effective method for cancer chemotherapy by avoiding drug resistance during the treatment. With a combination of ionic gelation and supercritical fluid technology, nanoparticle-embedded composite microparticles (CMPs) co-loaded with siRNA and paclitaxel (siRNA-PTX-CMPs) were successfully prepared. The results show that CMPs embedded with nanoparticles with a diameter of 50-100 nm exhibited a spherical shape and core-shell structure with a mean diameter of 323 nm. The encapsulation efficiency of siRNA in chitosan nanoparticles (CS NPs) was 96.97%. The drug load and encapsulation efficiency of PTX-loaded CMPs (5% dosage) were 1.40% and 27.95%, respectively; both these increased with an increase in dosage. It was found that no change had occurred in the functional groups of the components during the supercritical process, while the physical form of PTX had shifted to an amorphous state. In the cell experiments, the CMPs clustered around the nucleus after being taken up by the Bcap-37 cells. The results of the antitumor effect experiments revealed that the co-loaded siRNA-PTX-CMPs achieved a significantly better synergistic effect than single dosages, which indicated that the co-delivery system developed by the supercritical process could have potential in the application of cancer chemotherapy.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical effect of modified Koyanagi technique with coverage by tunica vaginalis of testis in severe hypospadias. METHODS: 49 cases with severe hypospadias treated from Jan. 2009 to Sep. 2011 were retrospectively studied. 25 patients underwent Koyanagi technique with coverage by tunica vaginalis of testis. 24 cases underwent one-stage Duplay + Duckett technique in the same term. The patients were followed up for 7-24 months. RESULTS: Among the 25 children treated with Koyanagi procedure, 20 cases were cured, 5 patients had postoperative complications, including urethral fistula in 3 cases, urethral stenosis in 2 cases. At the same time, in the Duplay + Duckett group, 17 cases were cured, 7 children had postoperative complications, including urethral fistula in 4 cases, and urethral stenosis in 3 cases. All the patients with urethral fistula were repaired successfully 6 months after the first surgery; The urethral stenosis were cured by dilatation within 1 to 3 months. The successful rate in the 2 groups had no significant difference(P >0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Koyanagi technique with coverage by tunica vaginalis of testis is relatively simple with similar effect as Duplay + Duckett technique for severe hypospadias.
