RESUMO

Organic photovoltaics (OPVs) suffer from a trade-off between efficient charge transport and suppressed nonradiative recombination due to the aggregation-induced luminance quenching of organic semiconductors. To resolve this grand challenge, a π-extended nonfullerene acceptor (NFA) B6Cl with large voids among the honeycomb network is designed and introduced into photovoltaic systems. We find that the presence of a small amount of (i.e., 0.5 or 1 wt %) B6Cl can compress the molecular packing of the host acceptor L8-BO, leading to shortened π-π stacking distance from 3.59 to 3.50 Å (that will improve charge transport) together with ordered alkyl chain packing (that will inhibit nonradiative energy loss due to the suppressed C-C and C-H bonds vibrations), as validated by high-energy X-ray scattering measurements. This morphology transformation ultimately results in simultaneously improved JSC, FF, and VOC of OPVs. As a result, the maximum PCEs of PM6:L8-BO and D18:L8-BO are increased from 19.1 and 19.3% to 19.8 and 20.2%, respectively, which are among the highest values for single-junction OPVs. The university of B6Cl to increase the performance of OPVs is further evidenced in a range of polymer:NFA OPVs.

RESUMO

Polymeric semiconducting materials struggle to achieve fast charge mobility due to low structural order. In this work, five 1H-indene-1,3(2H)dione-benzene structured halogenated solid additives namely INB-5F, INB-3F, INB-1F, INB-1Cl, and INB-1Br with gradually varied electrostatic potential are designed and utilized to regulate the structural order of polymer donor PM6. Molecular dynamics simulations demonstrate that although the dione unit of these additives tends to adsorb on the backbone of PM6, the reduced electrostatic potential of the halogen-substituted benzene can shift the benzene interacting site from alkyl side chains to the conjugated backbone of PM6, not only leading to enhanced π-π stacking in out-of-plane but also arising new π-π stacking in in-plane together with the appearance of multiple backbone stacking in out-of-plane, consequent to the co-existence of face-on and edge-on molecular orientations. This molecular packing transformation further translates to enhanced charge transport and suppressed carrier recombination in their photovoltaics, with a maximum power conversion efficiency of 19.4% received in PM6/L8-BO layer-by-layer deposited organic solar cells.

RESUMO

Metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a significant risk factor for the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Hepatic stellate cells (HSCs), as key mediators in liver injury response, are believed to play a crucial role in the repair process of liver injury. However, in MAFLD patients, the normal metabolic and immunoregulatory mechanisms of HSCs become disrupted, leading to disturbances in the local microenvironment. Abnormally activated HSCs are heavily involved in the initiation and progression of HCC. The metabolic disorders and abnormal activation of HSCs not only initiate liver fibrosis but also contribute to carcinogenesis. In this review, we provide an overview of recent research progress on the relationship between the abnormal metabolism of HSCs and the local immune system in the liver, elucidating the mechanisms of immune imbalance caused by abnormally activated HSCs in MAFLD patients. Based on this understanding, we discuss the potential and challenges of metabolic-based and immunology-based mechanisms in the treatment of MAFLD-related HCC, with a specific focus on the role of HSCs in HCC progression and their potential as targets for anti-cancer therapy. This review aims to enhance researchers' understanding of the importance of HSCs in maintaining normal liver function and highlights the significance of HSCs in the progression of MAFLD-related HCC.

RESUMO

Figla is one of the earliest expressed genes in the oocyte during ovarian development. In this study, Figla was characterized in C. maculata, one of the main aquaculture species in China, and designated as CmFigla. The length of CmFigla cDNA was 1303 bp, encoding 197 amino acids that contained a conserved bHLH domain. CmFigla revealed a female-biased expression patterns in the gonads of adult fish, and CmFigla expression was far higher in ovaries than that in testes at all gonadal development stages, especially at 60~180 days post-fertilization (dpf). Furthermore, a noteworthy inverse relationship was observed between CmFigla expression and the methylation of its promoter in the adult gonads. Gonads at 90 dpf were used for in situ hybridization (ISH), and CmFigla transcripts were mainly concentrated in oogonia and the primary oocytes in ovaries, but undetectable in the testes. These results indicated that Figla would play vital roles in the ovarian development in C. maculata. Additionally, the frame-shift mutations of CmFigla were successfully constructed through the CRISPR/Cas9 system, which established a positive foundation for further investigation on the role of Figla in the ovarian development of C. maculata. Our study provides valuable clues for exploring the regulatory mechanism of Figla in the fish ovarian development and maintenance, which would be useful for the sex control and reproduction of fish in aquaculture.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To comparatively evaluate drug-eluting bead transarterial chemoembolization (DEB-TACE) and conventional transarterial chemoembolization (cTACE) for efficacy, safety, and related prognostic factors in the treatment of colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM). MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study retrospectively analyzed 75 patients with CRLM-administered DEB-TACE (n = 36) or cTACE (n = 39) between January 2016 and December 2017. Local control, survival outcome, and complications were compared between the two groups. Univariate and multivariate analyses of prognostic factors affecting progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were performed. RESULTS: The median follow-up in the two groups was 10.5 months (range, 0.5-22). Median PFS and OS in the DEB-TACE group were 10.0 and 13.0 months, respectively, and 6.0 and 8.5 months in the cTACE group, respectively (P = 0.009 and P = 0.008). The 3-, 6-, and 12-month OS rates in the DEB-TACE group were 100.0%, 94.4%, and 55.6%, respectively, and 92.3%, 71.8%, and 35.9% in the cTACE group, respectively. The 3-month OS rate (P = 0.083) showed no significant difference between the two groups, but significant differences were found in the 6- and 12-month OS rates (P = 0.008 and P = 0.030). Univariate and multivariate survival analyses showed that treatment method, tumor size, and tumor number were independent prognostic factors affecting PFS and OS. CONCLUSION: DEB-TACE has advantages over cTACE in prolonging PFS and OS in patients with CRLM. Treatment method, tumor number, and tumor size are important prognostic factors affecting PFS and OS. However, further multicenter and prospective trials are needed to confirm a deeper comparison between DEB-TACE and cTACE in patients with CRLM.

RESUMO

Conjugated polymers are generally featured with low structural order due to their aromatic and irregular structural units, which limits their light absorption and charge mobility in organic solar cells. In this work, we report a conjugated molecule INMB-F that can act as a molecular bridge via electrostatic force to enhance the intermolecular stacking of BDT-based polymer donors toward efficient and stable organic solar cells. Molecular dynamics simulations and synchrotron X-ray measurements reveal that the electronegative INMB-F adsorb on the electropositive main chain of polymer donors to increase the donor-donor interactions, leading to enhanced structural order with shortened π-π stacking distance and consequently enhanced charge transport ability. Casting the non-fullerene acceptor layer on top of the INMB-F modified donor layer to fabricate solar cells via layer-by-layer deposition evidences significant power conversion efficiency boosts in a range of photovoltaic systems. A power conversion efficiency of 19.4% (certified 18.96%) is realized in PM6/L8-BO binary devices, which is one of the highest reported efficiencies of this material system. The enhanced structural order of polymer donors by INMB-F also leads to a six-fold enhancement of the operational stability of PM6/L8-BO organic solar cells.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Distant hybridization is an important breeding technique for creating new strains with superior traits by integrating two different genomes. Successful hybridization of Megalobrama amblycephala (Blunt snout bream, BSB, 2n = 48) and Culter alburnus (Topmouth culter, TC, 2n = 48) was achieved to establish hybrid lineages (BT and TB), which provide valuable materials for exploring the mechanisms of distant hybridization fertility. In this study, the gonadal tissue transcriptomes of BSB, TC, BT-F1, and TB-F1 were sequenced using Illumina high-throughput sequencing technology to analyze the reproductive characteristics of BT and TB. RESULTS: Differential gene expression analysis showed that the differentially expressed genes in BT vs BSB and BT vs TC were mainly enriched in signaling pathways not directly associated with meiosis. While, the differentially expressed genes of TB vs BSB and TB vs TC were mainly enriched in pathways related to meiosis, and most of them were down-regulated, indicating that meiosis is suppressed in TB. Under-dominance (UD) genes were enriched in pathways related to meiosis and DNA repair in TB. Over-dominance (OD) genes were enriched in MAPK signaling pathway, expression level dominance-BSB (ELD-B) genes were enriched in pathways related to steroid hormone synthesis and expression level dominance-TC (ELD-T) genes were not significantly enriched in any pathway in both BT and TB. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that meiotic progression may not be affected in BT, whereas it is clearly inhibited in TB. Offspring of M. amblycephala maternal parent may have better genomic compatibility and fertility. Our study provides important information on the molecular mechanisms of breaking reproductive isolation in distantly hybridized fertile lineages.

RESUMO

C-type lectins, one of the pattern recognition receptors (PRRs), play significant roles in innate immune responses through binding to the pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) presented on surfaces of microorganisms. Here, a novel C-type lectin (named as MaCTL) from blunt snout bream (Megalobrama amblycephala) was cloned and characterized. The open reading frame (ORF) of MaCTL is 573 bp long encoding a putative protein of 190 amino acids (aa), which contains a typical feature of signal peptide at 1-23 aa, a characteristic CRD domain at 45-178 aa and a WND/EPN motif that is required for carbohydrates-binding specificity. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that MaCTL is a novel member of CTL family and possessed the highest similarity to that of grass carp (92.11%). The qRT-PCR analysis revealed that MaCTL expressed widely in all examined normal tissues, including heart, liver, spleen, kidney, head-kidney, gill, intestine and muscle, with the higher expression in the spleen, liver and muscle. The expression of MaCTL in spleen was significantly elevated, peaking at 9 h and 6 h after LPS stimulation and Aeromonas hydrophila challenge, respectively, suggesting its association with involvement in innate immune response. The recombinant MaCTL protein (rMaCTL) agglutinated markedly both Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram-negative bacteria, including Escherichia coli, Vibrio anguillarum, Vibrio vulnificus and Aeromonas hydrophila, in a Ca2+-dependent manner. Meanwhile, rMaCTL showed the binding effects on the five bacteria and four carbohydrates, such as glucose, surose, LPS and PGN. Moreover, rMaCTL could remarkably inhibit the growth of three types of bacteria in vitro. Overall, the results obtained above demonstrated firmly that MaCTL binds to carbohydrates on the surface of diverse pathogens as a PRR and elicits antimicrobial responses, which shed new light on a better understanding of antibacterial functions of CTLs in teleost fish.

RESUMO

Organic semiconductors are generally featured with low structure order in solid-state films, which leads to low charge-transport mobility and strong charge recombination in their photovoltaic devices. In this work, a "polycrystal-induced aggregation" strategy orders the polymer donor (PM6) and non-fullerene acceptor (L8-BO) molecules during solution casting with the assistance of PM6 polycrystals that are incubated through a vapor diffusion method, toward improved solar cell efficiency with either thin or thick photoactive layers. These PM6 polycrystals are redissolved in chloroform to prepare PM6 pre-aggregates (PM6-PA), and further incorporated into the conventional PM6:L8-BO blend solutions, which is found to prolong the molecular organization process and enhance the aggregation of both the PM6 and the L8-BO components. As the results, with the assistance of 10% PM6-PA, PM6:L8-BO solar cell devices obtain power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) from 18.0% and 16.2% to 19.3% and 17.2% with a 100 nm-thick and 300 nm-thick photoactive layer, respectively.

RESUMO

Background: Papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) is the most frequent thyroid cancers worldwide. The efficacy and acceptability of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in the treatment of PTC have been intensively studied. The aim of this study is to focus on extra detailed that may influent for PTC or papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC). Materials and methods: We identified a total of 1,987 records of a primary literature searched in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar by key words, from 2000 to 2022. The outcome of studies included complication, costs, and local tumor progression. After scrutiny screening and full-text assessment, six studies were included in the systematic review. Heterogeneity was estimated using I2, and the quality of evidence was assessed for each outcome using the GRADE guidelines. Results: Our review enrolled 1,708 patients reported in six articles in the final analysis. There were 397 men and 1,311 women in the analysis. Two of these studies involved PTC and four focused on PTMC. There were 859 patients in the RFA group and 849 patients in the thyroidectomy group. By contrast, the tumor progression of RFA group was as same as that surgical groups [odds ratio, 1.31; 95% CI, 0.52-3.29; heterogeneity (I2 statistic), 0%, p = 0.85]. The risk of complication rates was significantly lower in the RFA group than that in the surgical group [odds ratio, 0.18; 95% CI, 0.09-0.35; heterogeneity (I2 statistic), 40%, p = 0.14]. Conclusions: RFA is a safe procedure with a certain outcome for PTC. RFA can achieve a good efficacy and has a lower risk of major complications.

RESUMO

Objective: The study aims to investigate the effect of metformin on Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) who received transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) for the first time. Methods: From January 2016 to December 2019, T2DM patients diagnosed with HCC in Shandong Cancer Hospital and treated with TACE were included in this retrospective study. Overall survival (OS) and Progression-free survival (PFS) were compared between patients treated with metformin and other antidiabetics. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression models were used to evaluate the independent risk factors associated with OS and PFS. And sub-analysis was performed to investigate whether metformin could give a survival advantage in each Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) stage of HCC. Propensity score matched (PSM) analyses based on patient and tumor characteristics were also conducted. Results: A total of 123 HCC patients with T2DM underwent TACE, of which 50 (40.65%) received treatment with metformin. For the whole cohort, the median OS (42 vs 32 months, p=0.054) and PFS (12 vs 7 months, P=0.0016) were longer in the metformin group than that in the non-metformin group. Multi-analysis revealed that BCLC stage, BMI (Body Mass Index), and metformin use were independent predictors of OS. Metformin use was independently associated with recurrence. After PSM, 39 matched pairs were identified. The use of metformin was associated with a numerically longer m OS (43 vs 35 months, P=0.183) than the use of other anti-diabetics. And the difference in median PFS (13 vs 7 months, p=0.018) between the metformin group and non-metformin group remained significant. Conclusion: The combination of transarterial chemoembolization and metformin may be associated with better OS and PFS in HCC patients with T2DM.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The influence of environmental factors, especially temperature, on sex ratio is of great significance to elucidate the mechanism of sex determination. However, the molecular mechanisms by which temperature affects sex determination remains unclear, although a few candidate genes have been found to play a role in the process. In this study, we conducted transcriptome analysis of the effects induced by high temperature on zebrafish during gonad differentiation period. RESULTS: Totals of 1171, 1022 and 2921 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between high temperature and normal temperature were identified at 35, 45 and 60 days post-fertilization (dpf) respectively, revealing that heat shock proteins (HSPs) and DNA methyltransferases (DNMTs) were involved in the heat-exposed sex reversal. The Gene Ontology (GO) terms and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway that were enriched in individuals after heat treatment included Fanconi anemia (FA) pathway, cell cycle, oocyte meiosis and homologous recombination. CONCLUSIONS: Our study provides the results of comparative transcriptome analyses between high temperature and normal temperature, and reveals that the molecular mechanism of heat-induced masculinization in zebrafish is strongly related to the expression of HSPs and DNMTs and FA pathway during gonad differentiation.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is an effective treatment for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the impact of hepatitis B viral (HBV) infection and body mass index (BMI) on TACE is controversial. The present study aimed to compare the influence of HBV and high BMI on TACE outcomes in advanced HCC. METHODS: Based on HBV infection history and BMI, patients were assigned to different subgroups. Blood samples were collected and analyzed by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS) and the overall survival (OS) in the population. RESULTS: Compared to overweight combined HBV patients who received TACE, people with normal weight or no viral infection had significantly better OS and PFS. Sex, age, portal vein tumor thrombus, BCLC, ECOG, and tumor diameter are the main risk factors affecting PFS and OS. Except for the postoperative fever, no significant difference was detected in adverse reactions. Irrespective of TACE, the average expression of HMGB1 in hepatitis or obesity patients was higher than that in normal individuals and did not show upregulation after TACE. Patients without overweight or HBV infection had a low expression of serum HMGB1 that was substantially upregulated after TACE. CONCLUSIONS: In this study, overweight combined HBV infection patients had shorter PFS and OS than other HCC patients. Thus, HBV and BMI maybe two factors affecting the efficacy of TACE via upregulated HMGB1.

RESUMO

Meiosis is the key process for producing mature gametes. A natural fertile triploid Carassius auratus population (3nDTCC) and an artificially derived sterile triploid crucian carp (3nCC) have been previously observed, providing suitable model organisms for investigating meiosis characteristics in triploid fish. In the present study, the microstructures and ultrastructures of spermatogenesis were studied in these fishes. TdT-mediated dUTP nick end labeling detection was performed to investigate the apoptosis of spermatocytes. Fluorescence in situ hybridization was employed to trace chromatin pairing. In addition, the mRNA expressions of cell cycle-related genes (i.e., cell division control 2 and cell cycle protein B) were determined by quantitative realtime polymerase chain reaction to illustrate the molecular mechanism of abnormal meiosis in the 3nCC. The results showed that the 3nCC undergoes an irregular prophase I, with the chromosomes distributed in a unipolar radial manner and exhibiting partial pairing, hindered metaphase I, and degenerated cells in the subsequent stages. Meanwhile, the 3nDTCC presented a relatively regular meiotic prophase I with complete conjugate chromosome pairs and chromosomes distributed along the karyotheca, which were presented as a ring structure by slicing. Only the spreads with 130-150 irregular chromosomes can be easily detected in the 3nDTCC, suggesting that it may undergo an abnormal metaphase I. This study provides new insights into the meiosis of fertile and sterile triploid cyprinid fish.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: GATA1 is a key transcription factor in the GATA family, and promotes the differentiation and maturation of red blood cell, which is essential for normal hematopoiesis. RESULTS: Our results showed that the cDNA sequence of GATA1 was 2730 bp long encoding 443 amino acids. qRT-PCR analysis demonstrated that GATA1 had the highest expression in testis (T), followed by pituitary (P) and spleen (S). GATA1 gene expression in C. auratus red var. embryo from the neuroblast stage (N) to the embryo hatching (H) changes continuously; and the gene expression levels of nonylphenol (NP)-treated and those of control embryos were significantly different. Moreover, Methylation levels of GATA1 gene in NP-treated embryos were higher than those in control embryos, indicating that NP affected GATA1 methylation. CONCLUSIONS: Our study provides cues for further studying the roles of GATA1 gene in fish development, and suggested a potential molecular mechanism by which NP leads to abnormal development of fish embryos.

RESUMO

Bacillus ciccensis and Cytobacillus solani were reported to belong to separate genomic species based on a polyphasic taxonomic approach. However, we found that type strains of B. ciccensis and C. solani should belong to the same genomic species based on the clustering patterns resulting from genome phylogenetic analysis. The average nucleotide identity and digital DNA-DNA hybridization values between the genomes of two type strains were 99.6% and 96.9%, respectively, much higher than 95 ~ 96% and 70% cut-off point proposed and generally accepted species boundary. This result was also supported by a comprehensive comparison of phenotypic characteristics between the two type strains. These results suggested that B. ciccensis and C. solani had the same taxonomic position. Consequently, we propose that B. ciccensis is a later heterotypic synonym of C. solani.

RESUMO

Enhancers are cis-acting elements that can promote the expression of target genes and respond to estrogen to induce the transcription of eRNAs, which are closely associated with cancer development. Further study on eRNAs may lead to a better understanding of the significance of transcriptional regulation and the progression of malignant tumors. SMAD7 enhancer RNA (SMAD7e) is an estrogen-responsive eRNA. However, the relationship between SMAD7e and bladder cancer remains unclear. SMAD7e was significantly upregulated in bladder cancer tissues and estrogen-stimulated cells. Knockdown of SMAD7e by CRISPR-Cas13a suppressed cell proliferation and migration, and induced cell apoptosis and inhibited cell invasion. Estrogen caused overexpression of SMAD7e and played a facilitating role in bladder cancer cells. Furthermore, knockdown of SMAD7e by CRISPR-Cas13a prevented the cancer-promoting effects of estrogen on bladder cancer both in vitro and in vivo. The present study suggested the crucial role of SMAD7e in bladder cancer. Estrogen might promote the development of bladder cancer by inducing SMAD7e production. These findings may provide a potential target for CRISPR-mediated gene therapy for bladder cancer in the future.

RESUMO

HMGB1 is an important mediator of inflammation during ischemia-reperfusion injury on organs. The serum expression of HMGB1 was increased significantly on the 1st day after TACE and decreased significantly which was lower on the 30th day after TACE. Tumor markers of post-DEB-TACE decreased significantly. The correlational analysis showed that patients with low HMGB1 expression had lower risks of fever and liver injury compared those with the higher expression, while the ORR is relatively worse. Patients with lower expression of HMGB1 had longer PFS, better efficacy, and higher quality of life. With the high post-expression, the low expression had lower incidence of fever and liver injury too. There was no statistical difference in the one-year survival among the different groups. The quality of life of all patients was improved significantly. The over-expression of HMGB1 in LMCRC is an adverse prognostic feature and a positive predictor of response to TACE.

RESUMO

The p38 mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) are essential cytoplasmic signal molecules of innate immune pathways that play a vital role in host immune defense responses to pathogenic challenges. In this study, two fish p38 genes (Cip38α and Cip38ß) were characterized for the first time from the grass carp Ctenopharyngodon idella. Similar to other reported p38MAPKs, both Cip38α and Cip38ß contained a conserved phosphorylation motif (Thr-Gly-Tyr, TGY) and a substrate binding site (Ala-Thr-Arg-Trp, ATRW) in the serine/threonine protein kinase (S_TKc) domain. Expression profile analysis showed that Cip38α and Cip38ß mRNAs were broadly expressed in all of the examined tissues and developmental stages of C. idella. In addition, in vivo injection experiments directly revealed that Cip38α and Cip38ß showed strong responsiveness to Aeromonas hydrophila and muramyl dipeptide (MDP) challenges, and their expression levels were significantly upregulated in the intestine of grass carp. Additionally, the MDP-induced expression levels of intestinal inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α and IL-15) and an antimicrobial peptide (ß-defensin) were significantly inhibited by the p38MAPK-specific inhibitor SB203580. Moreover, the nutritional dipeptide carnosine and Ala-Gln were found to significantly suppress the bacterial MDP-induced expression of p38MAPK pathway genes and inflammatory cytokines in the intestine of grass carp. Finally, overexpression analysis demonstrated that Cip38α and Cip38ß could act as efficient activators in the regulation of AP-1 signaling pathways through interaction with CiMKK6. Altogether, this study provided experimental evidence of the presence of a functional p38 pathway in grass carp, which revealed its involvement in the intestinal immune response to bacterial challenges in bony fish.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To explore the degree of embolization and embolization endpoints in patients with large hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated via transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). METHODS: Thirty-two HCC patients treated with TACE from 2015 to 2016 who met the enrollment criteria for this study were retrospectively analyzed. The experimental group was treated via complete embolization, with complete occlusion of the tumor blood supplying artery, while the control group underwent incomplete embolization of any blood supplying arteries, with limited residual visible blood flow detectable via angiography. Postoperative liver and kidney function, complications, prognosis, and survival for patients in these two groups were analyzed. RESULTS: There was no significant difference at baseline patient condition between the two treatment groups before treatment. After treatment, the alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartic aminotransferase (AST), and white blood cell (WBC) values in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group (p=0.031, 0.038, and 0.034, respectively). There was also a significant increase in hepatic aseptic necrosis and acute liver function damage in the experimental group relative to the control group (p=0.015 and 0.023, respectively). Compared with the control group, the prognosis and survival of the experimental group was significantly decreased. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses of overall survival revealed that the different treatment group and hepatitis B infection status were the main factors affecting patient prognosis and survival. CONCLUSIONS: For patients with large HCC tumors with a limited number of supporting arteries, careful attention should be paid to the use of embolic agents during the TACE procedure. Rather than proceeding to complete embolization of the artery root, embolization can be terminated when the main tumor feeding artery is still faintly visible on an angiogram in a structure reminiscent of a tree with dry branches, thereby reducing adverse outcomes in patients.
