RESUMO

A 14-year-old boy with sickle cell disease presented with preseptal cellulitis findings as proptosis, eyelid edema, and hyperemia. His best corrected visual acuity in the right eye was 20/20 and 16/20 in the left eye. He had limited ductions in vertical and lateral gazes in both eyes. Bilateral venous tortuosity was observed in posterior segment examination. Orbital bone infarction and subperiosteal hematoma were seen in magnetic resonance imaging. He was diagnosed as having orbital compression syndrome secondary to vaso-occlusive crisis of sickle cell disease and was treated with intravenous ampicilin-sulbactam and methylprednisolone.

RESUMO

A 42-year-old woman was admitted to Mersin University, Department of Ophthalmology Clinic with itching and burning sensation of the right eye for 3 weeks. In her slit-lamp examination, nits and lice, attached to the upper and lower eyelashes of her right eye, were observed. Lice and nits were destroyed by argon laser phototherapy and were removed with the help of a fine forceps thereafter. Argon laser phototherapy is a quick, effective, and safe treatment modality for phthiriasis palpebrarum.

RESUMO

Three patients were admitted to our clinic with symptoms of conjunctivitis. On ocular examination, moving larvae were seen in the conjunctival sac. All of the larvae were immobilized by topical cyclopentolate and removed mechanically under topical anesthesia. The patients healed without any complications after the treatment. Physicians should consider ophthalmomyiasis externa in patients presenting with similar symptoms, especially in areas with high numbers of livestock. Otherwise the diagnosis can be missed.
