RESUMO

Introduction: Osteosarcoma is a common bone malignant tumor in adolescents with high mortality and poor prognosis. At present, the progress of osteosarcoma and effective treatment strategies are not clear. This study provides a new potential target for the progression and treatment of osteosarcoma. Methods: The relationship between lncRNA PRR7-AS1 and osteosarcoma was analyzed using the osteosarcoma databases and clinical sample testing. Cell function assays and tumor lung metastasis were employed to study the effects of PRR7-AS1 on tumorigenesis in vivo and in vitro. Potential downstream RNF2 of PRR7-AS1 was identified and explored using RNA pulldown and RIP. The GTRD and KnockTF database were used to predict the downstream target gene, MTUS1, and ChIP-qPCR experiments were used to verify the working mechanismy. Rescue experiments were utilized to confirm the role of MTUS1 in the pathway. Results: Deep mining of osteosarcoma databases combined with clinical sample testing revealed a positive correlation between lncRNA PRR7-AS1 and osteosarcoma progression. Knockdown of PRR7-AS1 inhibited osteosarcoma cell proliferation and metastasis in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, RNA pulldown and RIP revealed that PRR7-AS1 may bind RNF2 to play a cancer-promoting role. ChIP-qPCR experiments were utilized to validate the working mechanism of the downstream target gene MTUS1. RNF2 inhibited the transcription of MTUS1 through histone H2A lysine 119 monoubiquitin. Rescue experiments confirmed MTUS1 as a downstream direct target of PRR7-AS1 and RNF2. Discussion: We identified lncRNA PRR7-AS1 as an important oncogene in osteosarcoma progression, indicating that it may be a potential target for diagnosis and prognosis of osteosarcoma.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND Arthritis of the hip caused by arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) has been rarely reported. Therefore, total hip replacement (THR) in patients with AVM-induced arthritis of the hip is challenging. CASE SUMMARY We report a 44-year-old woman with aggravated right hip pain during the past decade. The patient presented with severe pain and a functional disorder of the right hip. X-ray examination revealed severely narrowed right hip joint space and abnormal trabecular bone loss in the femoral neck and trochanter area. Doppler ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography angiography revealed AVMs surrounding the right hip, along with erosion. To ensure the safety of THR, we performed vascular embolization and temporary balloon occlusion of the iliac artery three times during the operation. However, serious hemorrhage occurred, which was rescued by the multimodality blood conservation strategy. THR was successfully performed, and the patient was discharged 8 d later for rehabilitation. Postoperative pathological examination showed osteonecrosis of the femoral head with malformed thick-walled vessels and focal granulomatous inflammation of the surrounding soft tissues. The Harris Hip Scale score increased from 31 to 82 at 3 mo of follow-up. The patient was followed up for 1 year, and all her clinical symptoms were significantly alleviated. CONCLUSION Arthritis of the hip caused by AVMs is rare in clinical practice. The activity and function of the involved hip joint can be effectively treated with THR after comprehensive imaging and multidisciplinary consultation.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The accessory bones are common bone variations around the feet and ankles, which usually originate from nonunion of the secondary ossification center adjacent to the main bone mass, and most of them remain asymptomatic. Os subcalcis is an accessory bone at the plantar aspect of the calcaneus, which is located just posterior to the insertion of the plantar fascia. Focal bone formation at the calcaneal plantar pole with heel pain has rarely been reported. CASE SUMMARY: A 55-year-old man presented to our clinic with left plantar heel pain and a progressive swelling for 8 years. X-ray, computer tomography and magnetic resonance imaging showed a large os subcalcison the plantar side of the calcaneus, located at the insertion of the plantar fascia. He underwent surgical excision of the lesion. Microscopically the bony trabeculae were intermingled with fat and covered with cartilage. CONCLUSION: This is a rare case with accessory os subcalcis leading to heel pain. It highlights the awareness of os subcalcis and helps avoid future misdiagnosis of heel pain.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The most commonly ingested foreign body in Asians is fish bone. The vast majority of patients have obvious symptoms and can be timely diagnosed and treated. Cases of pyogenic cervical spondylitis and diskitis with retropharyngeal and epidural abscess resulting in incomplete quadriplegia due to foreign body ingestion have been rarely reported. The absence of pharyngeal or esophageal discomfort and negative computed tomography (CT) findings of fish bone have not been reported. We report the case of an elderly female patient with delayed cervical infection and incomplete quadriplegia who had a history of fish bone ingestion. CASE SUMMARY: A 73-year-old woman presented with right neck pain and weakness of four limbs for a week, and had a history of fish bone ingestion and negative findings on laryngoscopic examination one month previously. She did not complain of any pharyngeal or esophageal discomfort. Cervical magnetic resonance imaging showed C4/C5 spondylitis and diskitis along with retropharyngeal and ventral epidural abscesses. No sign of fish bone was detected on lateral cervical radiography and CT scans. The muscle strength of the patient's right lower limb receded to grade 1 and other limbs to grade 2 suddenly on the 10th day of hospitalization. Emergency surgery was performed to drain the abscess and decompress the spinal cord by removing the anterior inflammatory necrotic tissue. Simultaneously, flexible esophagogastroduodenoscopy was carried out and a hole in the posterior pharyngeal wall was found. The motor weakness of the right lower limb improved to grade 3 and the other limbs to grade 4 within 2 d postoperatively. CONCLUSION: This rare case highlights the awareness of the posterior pharyngeal or esophageal wall perforation in patients with cervical pyogenic spondylitis along with a history of fish bone ingestion, even though local discomfort symptoms are absent and the radiological examinations are negative.

RESUMO

Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has seriously threatened the global public health security and caused a series of mental health problem. Current research focuses mainly on mental health status and related factors in the COVID-19 pandemic among Chinese university students. Data from 11133 participants was obtained through an online survey. The Patient Health Question-9 (PHQ-9) was used to assess depressive symptoms, the Social Support Rate Scale (SSRS) was used to assess social support. We also used 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7) to assess anxiety symptoms. Totally, 37.0% of the subjects were experiencing depressive symptoms, 24.9% anxiety symptoms, 20.9% comorbid depressive and anxiety symptoms, and 7.3% suicidal ideation. Multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed an increased presence of mental health problems in female students, graduate students, and those with personal COVID-19 exposure. Awareness of COVID-19, living with family were protective factors that reduced anxiety and depression symptoms. In addition, male, personal COVID-19 exposure, depressive and anxiety symptoms were risk factors for suicidal ideation. Social support, COVID-19 preventive and control measures, prediction of COVID-19 trends, living with family and graduate students are protective factors for reducing suicidal ideation.

RESUMO

Oral feeding of water cannot be accomplished in some critical patients due to coma, mouth-breathing or long-term indwelling of gastric tube, causing dry mouth which results in oral pain, ulcer, or infection, aggravating patients' discomfort and even affecting the prognosis. To solve this problem, the medical staff of the First Hospital of Jiaxing developed a novel oral humidifier and obtained the National Utility Model Patent of China (ZL 2019 2 0066979.0). The oral humidifier consists of a spraying device and a fixation device. The spraying device is a spraying housing with a water tank, and a spraying port where nanometer water mist can be emitted. The spraying housing is also equipped with a flashlight with a switch, and a schematic diagram of pupil size, which can be used to assess the pupil size conveniently. The fixing device is composed of a fixing frame, an adjustable rod and a clamp. The two ends of the adjustable rod are connected to the fixing frame and the clamp respectively, and can be adjusted to proper shape. The spraying housing can be placed on the fixing frame and installed on the bed and adjusted to the proper position quickly. This novel oral humidifier is a simple device which combines a spraying system with a pupil evaluation tool, implying significant clinical application in improving the convenience of nursing and alleviating dry mouth of critical patients.

RESUMO

Chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD) is the main cause of non-relapse mortality after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in bone marrow (BM) remain unclear in the pathophysiology of cGVHD. In this study, we analyzed BM-MSCs from 66 patients after allo-HSCT, including 33 with active cGVHD and 33 without cGVHD. BM-MSCs showed similar morphology, frequency, phenotype, and proliferation in patients with or without cGVHD. MSCs from the active cGVHD group showed a decreased apoptosis rate (P < 0.01). Osteogenic capacity was increased while adipogenic capacity was decreased in the active cGVHD MSCs compared with no-cGVHD MSCs. The expressions of osteogenic gene RUNX2 and COL1A1 were higher (P < 0.001) while adipogenic gene PPAR-γ and FABP4 were lower (P < 0.001) in the active cGVHD MSCs than no-cGVHD MSCs. These changes were associated with the severity of cGVHD (P < 0.0001; r = 0.534, r = 0.476, r = -0.796, and r = -0.747, respectively in RUNX2, COL1A1, PPAR-γ, and FABP4). The expression of Wnt/ß-catenin pathway ligand Wnt3a was increased in cGVHD-MSCs. The dysfunction of cGVHD-MSCs could be reversed by Dickkopf related protein 1(DKK1) to inhibit the binding of Wnt3a. In summary, the differentiation of BM-MSCs was abnormal in active cGVHD, and its underlying mechanism is the upregulated of Wnt3a through Wnt/ß-catenin signaling pathway of MSCs.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Unlike unipolar depression, depressive episode of bipolar disorder is often associated with clinical characteristics, such as atypical and mixed symptoms. However, there are currently no valid and reliable specific tools available to assess the specific psychiatric symptomatology of depressive episode of bipolar disorder in China. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the Bipolar Depression Rating Scale (BDRS) in Chinese patients with bipolar disorder. METHODS: The sample of this study included 111 patients with bipolar disorder (30 male, 81 female). All participants were interviewed with the Chinese version of the BDRS (BDRS-C), the 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-17), the Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) and the Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS). A psychometric analysis of the BDRS was conducted. RESULTS: The Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the BDRS-C reached a value of 0.869. The BDRS-C score and scores for the HAMD-17 (r = 0.819, p < 0.01), the MADRS (r = 0.882, p < 0.01) and the YMRS (r = 0.355, p < 0.01) exhibited significant positive correlations. Close correlations were observed between the mixed subscale score of the BDRS-C and the YMRS score (r = 0.784, p < 0.01). Exploratory factor analysis resulted in three factors: a primary depressive symptoms cluster, a secondary depressive symptoms cluster, and a mixed symptoms cluster. CONCLUSION: The Chinese version of the BDRS has satisfactory psychometric properties. This is a valid and reliable instrument to assess depressive symptomatology in patients with bipolar disorder.

RESUMO

Chronic graft-vs.-host disease (cGVHD) remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). Previous studies have shown that autoantibodies play an important role in the development of cGVHD. Anti-nuclear autoantibodies (ANA) is the most frequently detected autoantibodies in patients with cGVHD, but the role of anti-Ro52 autoantibodies (anti-Ro52) in cGVHD remains largely unknown. In this study, we analyzed autoantibodies from 84 patients after allo-HSCT, including 42 with active cGVHD and 42 without cGVHD. Autoantibodies were found in 36 (42.9%) patients. Among these autoantibody-positive patients, 28 (77.8%) patients had active cGVHD. The most frequent autoantibodies in patients with active cGVHD were ANA (50.0%), anti-Ro52 (28.6%) and anti-mitochondrial autoantibodies type 2 (4.8%). We further explored the association between anti-Ro52 and cGVHD. Patients with active cGVHD had higher anti-Ro52 levels than patients without cGVHD (P < 0.05). The increases of anti-Ro52 levels were more significant in patients with moderate/severe cGVHD compared to those of patients without cGVHD (P < 0.05). Stratified and multivariable logistic regression analysis demonstrated that moderate/severe cGVHD was an independent risk factor for the levels of anti-Ro52 (P < 0.01). ROC analysis confirmed anti-Ro52 as a risk factor for progression of skin cGVHD. Moreover, the anti-Ro52 levels were highly correlated with the levels of B cell-activating factor (BAFF) and IgG1 antibodies. Our study demonstrates that anti-Ro52 is associated with cGVHD. The increased levels of anti-Ro52 were associated with higher levels of BAFF and IgG1 antibodies, suggesting a mechanistic link between elevated anti-Ro52 levels and aberrant B cell homeostasis.

RESUMO

Airway humidification is an important treatment for tracheotomy patients. At present, the commonly used methods of humidification are atomization inhalation, intra-tracheal drip, etc., but most of them have the disadvantages of interrupted humidification, inadequate humidification, repeated exposure of airway, increased nursing workload, etc. An improved disposable atomizer was designed by the emergency department of Jiaxing First Hospital in Zhejiang Province, which solved the above problems and obtained the National Utility Model Patent of China (ZL 2014 2 0406688.9). In the traditional atomizer, a make-up pipeline is added to run through the liquid container. The replenishing pipe is connected with an external infusion device. At the end of the pipeline inside the liquid container, a buoy with a guide rod is designed to continuously add liquid and automatically control the make-up speed. The device is driven by oxygen to perform airway humidification. The design can keep sufficient airway humidification, avoid frequent addition of humidification fluid, achieve the effect of increasing humidification, reducing the occurrence of complications, increasing the comfort of patients, and reducing the workload of nursing, and has a certain clinical value.

RESUMO

The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) in Kambin triangle approach for the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCFs).Between November 2017 and September 2018, 109 patients (144 vertebral bodies) with OVCFs, with a mean age of 76.7 ±â€Š9.9 years (55-96 years), underwent PVP in Kambin triangle approach. The time of operation, the volume of bone cement, the incidence of complication, the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) score, the position of puncture needles, and the spread of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) in vertebral body (VB) were recorded. All patients had been completed the operation successfully and were followed up 9.1 ±â€Š2.9 months. The average operation time of each VB was 24.0 ±â€Š3.5 minutes. The average volume of cement was 4.8 ±â€Š0.6 ml. The mean VAS scores were 8.4 ±â€Š0.7 preoperatively, 1.6 ±â€Š0.6 at the first day postoperatively, and 1.2 ±â€Š0.6 at the last follow-up. The mean ODI scores were 70.97 ±â€Š7.73 preoperatively, 27.99 ±â€Š4.12 at the first day postoperatively, and 19.65 ±â€Š3.49 at the last follow-up. The position of puncture needles in the VB was: 119 vertebral puncture needles reached the midline, 15 were close to the midline, and 10 exceeded the midline. The spread of PMMA in the VB was: type 1 in 81 levels (56.3%), type 2 in 37 (25.7%), type 3 in 18 (12.5%), type 5 in 8 (5.5%), and no case in type 4. One case developed pneumothorax after operation. No other complications (hematoma, cement embolism, spinal cord, and nerve injury) occurred.Kambin triangle approach in PVP, which can deliver the puncture needle to the midline of VB easily and with excellent cement distribution, is a safe and effective method.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: In daily medical work, most of the critically ill patients who cannot move by themselves are pulled and lifted by manpower, often relying on the cooperation of many doctors and nurses, which not only increases the risk of transfer and patients' discomfort, but also causes certain skeletal and muscle damage to the porters. The emergency department of the First Hospital of Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province designed a kind of patient transfer device, and obtained the National Utility Model Patent (ZL 2018 2 0579844.X). The transfer device is composed of upper frame, lower frame and base. The upper frame and the lower frame are rectangular and in a horizontal position. The upper frame can slide laterally through the circular tubes which are fixed on the lower frame. The lower part of the base is provided with four universal foot brake wheels. During the usage, the booster frame facilitates the transfer of patients by the rolling and two sliding tracks of the circular tube, which can make patients move smoothly and comfortably, and reduce the working intensity of the transporter. This device has good practical value.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The study of the experiment was to display the therapeutic function of insulin-loaded chitosan (insulin/chitosan) on mesenteric microcirculation via down-regulating cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and vascular cell adhesion molecule (VCAM-1) expressions in rats with diabetes mellitus (DM) as compared to free insulin. METHODS: Diabetic rats were administrated with 24 U/kg insulin or 120 U/kg insulin/chitosan compounds. The blood and mesenteriums were collected, blood glucose levels, arteriole velocity, arteriole diameter, venular diameter, and hemodiapedesis were measured, and COX-2, VCAM-1 expressions were measured in mesenteriums tissues. RESULTS: Both insulin and insulin/chitosan administration decreased blood glucose and improved the state of mesenteric microcirculation through down-regulating COX-2 and VCAM-1 expressions as compared to DM groups, while insulin/chitosan remarkably augmented this functions. CONCLUSION: Chitosan-microcapsulated insulin alleviates mesenteric microcirculation dysfunction via modulating COX-2 and VCAM-1 expressions in rats with DM.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Cognitive impairment is commonly observed in patients with Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT). Low levels of vitamin D have been correlated with cognitive impairment in non-HT population. We examined the association of vitamin D levels with cognitive impairment in patients with HT. METHODS: We recruited 194 patients with HT and 200 healthy volunteers. Levels of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) were measured using a competitive protein-binding assay. Cognitive funtion was assessed using Montreal Cognitive Assessment score (MoCA). Subjects with a MoCA scores < 26 are considered as having mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Multivariate analysis was performed using logistic regression models. RESULTS: Fifty-five HT patients (28.4%) were diagnosed as having MCI. Patients with MCI had significantly lower 25(OH)D levels when compared with patients without MCI (33.9 ± 6.2 vs. 44.3 ± 9.6 nmol/L, P < 0.001). Significant differences in 25(OH)D quartiles of HT patients were observed between the patients with MCI and the patients without MCI (P < 0.001). In multivariate analyses, serum 25(OH)D levels (≤ 34.0 and ≥ 47.1 nmol/L) were significantly associated with cognitive impairment in patients with HT (OR 6.279, 95% CI 2.673-14.834, P < 0.001; OR 0.061, 95% CI 0.008-0.491, P = 0.009, respectively). CONCLUSION: Our results demonstrate an important association between serum vitamin D levels and cognitive impairment in patients with HT.

RESUMO

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Menispermum dauricum DC., commonly known as "Bei Dou Gen" (BDG) in China, has been used extensively in folk medicine to treat inflammatory diseases, especially intestinal inflammations such as enteritis and dysentery, and in pharyngitis, tonsillitis, rheumatism and bronchitis. Although previous studies showed that BDG has anti-inflammatory activities, its effects on ulcerative colitis (UC) have not yet been explored. AIM OF THE STUDY: To investigate the intestinal anti-inflammatory effect of the rhizome extracts of Menispermum dauricum DC. on UC model induced by 2,4,6-trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS) in mice. MATERIALS AND METHODS: UC in mice was induced by colonic administration with TNBS. BDG (100, 200 and 400mg/kg/day) and sulfasalazine (500mg/kg/day) were administered orally for 7 consecutive days. The inflammatory degree was assessed by gross appearance, macroscopic and histological analysis, and accumulation of myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity. Pro-inflammatory mediators, including tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-1ß and IL-6, were determined by enzyme-linked immunoassay. The expression of cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 was assessed by immunohistochemical analysis. RESULTS: Treatment with different doses of BDG significantly ameliorated macroscopic damage and histological changes, reduced the accumulation of MPO activity, depressed serum and colonic tissue levels of TNF-α, IL-1ß and IL-6 in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, administration of BDG effectively reduced COX-2 overexpression in colon. CONCLUSION: We demonstrated for the first time that BDG possessed marked intestinal anti-inflammatory effect in TNBS induced colitis in mice, which might be related to the reduction of up-regulated productions and expressions of pro-inflammatory mediators, suggesting that it may have beneficial use for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease.

RESUMO

Taurocholate is a natural conjugated bile acid. The aim of this study was to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect of taurocholate in TNBS-induced ulcerative colitis in mice. The colitis were induced by rectal administration of TNBS. After 24h, the experimental animals were treated with sulfasalazine (SASP, 500mg/kg/day) and taurocholate (20, 40 and 60mg/kg) for 7 consecutive days. The anti-inflammatory effects of taurocholate for colitis were assessed by body weight, colonic weight and length, macroscopic scores, and histopathological examinations. In addition, the colonic tissue levels of myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity, interleukin (IL)-1ß, interferon (IFN-γ) and tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were also determined to assess the effect of taurocholate. Compared with the model group, treatment with taurocholate (20, 40 and 60mg/kg) significantly inhibited the body weight loss, improved colonic weight and length, and decreased macroscopic and histopathological scores. Furthermore, the activity accumulation of MPO and the colonic tissue levels of IL-1ß, IFN-γ and TNF-α were also decreased by administration of taurocholate. All the findings of this study suggested that taurocholate has the anti-inflammatory effect in ulcerative colitis in mice and indicated it as a good candidate to treat inflammatory bowel disease.

RESUMO

Ulcerative colitis is a chronic nonspecific inflammatory disease of unknown cause. The aim of this study was to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect of tauroursodeoxycholate in 2, 4, 6-trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid-induced experimental colitis in mice. After the induction of colitis for 24h, the mice were administrated orally with tauroursodeoxycholate (20, 40 and 60mg/kg) and sulfasalazine (500mg/kg) by gavage for 7 consecutive days. The inhibition effects were evaluated by the body of weight change, survival rate, macroscopical and histological evaluations. Besides, myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity, interleukin (IL)-1ß, interferon (IFN)-γ and tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in colon tissue were also determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Treatment with different doses of tauroursodeoxycholate (20, 40 and 60mg/kg) significantly improved the body weight change, decreased the macroscopic and histopathological scores. Compared with the model group, the accumulation of MPO activity, the colonic tissue levels of IL-1ß, IFN-γ and TNF-α were significantly reduced in the tauroursodeoxycholate treated groups. Moreover, tauroursodeoxycholate assuaged the symptoms of colitis. These results suggested that tauroursodeoxycholate has an anti-inflammatory effect in TNBS-induced ulcerative colitis in mice.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the sociodemographic and clinical factors related to anxiety in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). METHODS: This study involved a secondary analysis of data obtained from the Diagnostic Assessment Service for People with Bipolar Disorders in China (DASP), which was initiated by the Chinese Society of Psychiatry (CSP) and conducted from September 1, 2010 to February 28, 2011. Based on the presence or absence of anxiety-related characteristics, 1,178 MDD patients were classified as suffering from anxious depression (n=915) or non-anxious depression (n=263), respectively. RESULTS: Compared with the non-anxious group, the anxious-depression group had an older age at onset (t=-4.39, p<0.001), were older (t=-4.69, p<0.001), reported more lifetime depressive episodes (z=-3.24, p=0.001), were more likely to experience seasonal depressive episodes (χ(2)=6.896, p=0.009) and depressive episodes following stressful life events (χ2=59.350, p <0.001), and were more likely to have a family history of psychiatric disorders (χ(2)=6.091, p=0.014). Their positive and total scores on the Mood Disorder Questionnaire (MDQ) and the 32-item Hypomania Checklist (HCL-32) (p<0.05) were also lower. The logistic regression analysis indicated that age (odds ratio [OR]=1.03, p<0.001), a lower total MDQ score (OR=0.94, p=0.011), depressive episodes following stressful life events (OR=3.04, p<0.001), and seasonal depressive episodes (OR=1.75, p=0.039) were significantly associated with anxious depression. CONCLUSION: These findings indicate that older age, fewer subclinical bipolar features, an increased number of depressive episodes following stressful life events, and seasonal depressive episodes may be risk factors for anxiety-related characteristics in patients with MDD.

RESUMO

Objective To assess the clinical predictability of waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) among female civil servants who had experienced risk factors of cardiovascular disease. Methods Data was gathered from 4153 female civil servants aged 21-91 y working at universities who were enrolled in health screening centre at the Second Hospital Attached to Hebei Medical University, in 2006. WHR quartiles were determined as: <0.80, 0.80-<0.84, 0.84-<0.90 and ≥0.90. Subjects were placed into high-risk categories for cardiovascular disease on the basis of national health reference on range norms of protocol including hypertension, diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia. Results Participants had an increased likelihood of hypertension (systolic blood pressure) , dyslipidemia (elevated triacylglycerol and descending HDL-C) and diabetes mellitus at WHR≥0.84. All aforementioned variables had a significant odds ratio at WHR ≥0.84. This trend was further persisted after adjustment had been made on smoking, age, and BMI. Descended HDL-C was observed at the 0.80≤WHR<0.84 when compared with WHR< 0.80. Conclusion These data indicated an upward shift in the critical threshold for WHR to ≥0.84. Above which point, there was an elevation of risk factors on cardiovascular diseases among all the female civil servants. The trend persisted regardless of smoking, BMI <or ≥28 and at what age group, among the civil servants population.
