RESUMO

BACKGROUND Gestational choriocarcinoma (GC) is an uncommon neoplasia that occurs in women who may not have completed a procreation plan. The aim of this study was to evaluate oncological and obstetrical outcomes in young patients with GC after fertility-sparing treatment. MATERIAL AND METHODS The eligibility criteria for the study were histopathological diagnosis of GC, age ≤40 years, and treatment with systemic chemotherapy. Patients who underwent upfront hysterectomy were excluded. The response to treatment was assessed according to beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (beta-hCG) serum measurement. Complete response and progression were considered if the beta-hCG dropped to a normal range and increased (or reached a plateau), respectively. The birth rate was calculated as the number of women who gave birth after treatment divided by the total number of patients. RESULTS A total of 18 patients fulfilled the study's eligibility criteria. A complete response and progression to first-line chemotherapy were found in 13 (72.22%) and 5 (27.78%) patients, respectively. Salvage treatment was administered to patients with progression. Overall, 16 (88.88%) patients achieved complete response after treatment and 2 (11.12%) died. GC relapse was diagnosed in 1 patient 62 months after treatment. The birth rate was 22.22%, and a total of 6 children were born. All pregnancies ended in term delivery. No congenital abnormalities were detected in the newborns. CONCLUSIONS GC is a life-threatening form of gestational trophoblastic neoplasia, mainly due to its rapid course and resistance to chemotherapy. Most patients with GC will not be able to bear children after treatment.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: SARS-CoV-2 infection in pregnant women may induce inflammation within the amniotic cavity and/or an increase in proinflammatory cytokines in fetal circulation. The aim was to investigate levels of IL-6 in maternal blood, umbilical cord blood, and amniotic fluid in pregnant women infected with SARS-CoV-2 at delivery. METHODS: A single-center prospective observational case-control study of pregnant women diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection at delivery was conducted. A total of 48 infected and 42 healthy women had IL-6 concentrations measured in their blood, amniotic fluid, and umbilical cord blood. RESULTS: The concentrations of IL-6 in maternal blood and amniotic fluid were similar in the study and control groups, while umbilical cord blood concentrations were significantly higher in SARS-CoV-2-positive women. The umbilical cord blood IL-6 concentration was related to composite neonatal morbidity. CONCLUSIONS: Maternal SARS-CoV-2 infection in pregnant women at delivery increases umbilical cord blood IL-6 concentration. The correlation between maternal and umbilical blood concentrations indicates a possibility of passage of IL-6 through the placenta. Perinatal alterations resulting from maternal SARS-CoV-2 infection at delivery carry a risk of impacting the health of infants even in asymptomatic course of infection.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To assess the recurrence and birth rates among patients with non-epithelial ovarian cancer. METHODS: The study included 146 patients with germ cell (GCT, n = 84) and sex cord-stromal tumors (SCST, n = 62), who underwent fertility-sparing surgery. Adjuvant chemotherapy was administered to 86 (58.9%) patients. Most cases (133 out of 146) were staged FIGO I. RESULTS: The 5- and 10-year disease-free survival rates were 91% and 83%, respectively. The recurrence risk was not associated with tumor histology, stage or age. Twenty-four months after the treatment, the rate of recurrence was higher than the rate of childbearing. The childbearing rates kept rising after the treatment and exceeded the rate of recurrence after 2 years. The cumulative incidence rates of birth 36, 60 and 120 months after treatment were 13.24%, 20.75%, and 42.37%, respectively. Chemotherapy was not related to childbearing. The patients' age was related to the chance of childbearing. CONCLUSIONS: The prognoses of GCT and SCST are similar. Close follow-ups along with contraception should be offered to women during the first two years after treatment due to the increased risk of recurrence. After this period, relapses are rare and women can safely become pregnant.

RESUMO

Objective: Vitamin D plays an important role during pregnancy. The aim was to compare vitamin D status in a group of singleton (SP) and twin pregnancies (TP) using two diagnostic methods: chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA) and liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Design: This is a cross-sectional study. Methods: The study was conducted in the population of SP and TP at the gestational age above 20 + 0 at the Bielanski Hospital in Warsaw, Poland, between October 2020 and January 2023. All patients had their venous blood samples collected and were given an original survey containing questions on demography and vitamin D supplementation. Results: The study group included 53 Caucasian women with SP and 78 with TP aged from 21 to 47. Considering LC-MS/MS, patients with TP had lower concentrations of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) than patients with SP. However, no significant difference was observed in the frequency of the occurrence of vitamin D deficiency (25(OH)D < 30 ng/mL). In both groups, the levels obtained with CLIA were significantly lower than in case of LC-MS/MS, however, strongly correlated. The intermethod agreement accounted for 52.4% and the Cohen's kappa coefficient was 0.142. Conclusions: The concentration of 25(OH)D in pregnant women depends on the type of gestation (SP/TP) and on the diagnostic methods used (CLIA/LC-MS/MS). Based on LC-MS/MS, the incidence of vitamin D deficiency was low in our group and no differences occurred in its frequency between SP and TP. The intermethod agreement between CLIA and LC-MS/MS on the detection of vitamin D deficiency was low. Significance statement: This is the first study to compare the concentration of 25(OH)D levels between SP and TP using two methods: CLIA and the gold standard - LC-MS/MS. Based on LC-MS/MS, a low incidence of vitamin D deficiency was observed in our group, in which the vast majority of patients took cholecalciferol supplements. Moreover, there were no differences in its frequency between SP and TP. However, the 25(OH)D level was significantly lower in TP. The intermethod agreement between CLIA and LC-MS/MS on the detection of vitamin D deficiency was low, which is associated with substantial clinical implications.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess the utility of circulating miR-125b-5p, miR-199a-3p, miR-451a, and miR-3613-5p as biomarkers of endometriosis. STUDY DESIGN: Patients with stage III or IV of endometriosis according to the revised American Society of Reproductive Medicine (rASRM) staging classification, as well as control women, were recruited. We created a prospective study conducted on a group of 48 patients (n = 25 controls, n = 24 endometriosis) who had laparoscopic surgery. Blood samples were taken and plasma miRNA levels were measured by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and assessed with AUC and ROC curves. RESULTS: MiR-451a and miR-3613-5p were significantly decreased in the plasma of endometriosis patients. miR-451a had a receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) area under the curve 0.8283 and miR-3613-5p had a ROC area under the curve 0.7617. The concentration of circulating miR-125b-5p and miR-199-3p did not differ between endometriosis patients and controls. Plasma miRNA levels did not change with BMI, smoking status, fertility problems, or menstrual pain according to the VAS scale (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Circulating miR-451a and miR-3613-5p levels significantly differed between endometriosis and controls. However, the levels of miR-451a were discordant with previous studies. Therefore, miR-3613-5p may have better potential as the endometriosis biomarker. Circulating miR-125b-5p and miR-199a-3p cannot be used as reliable markers of endometriosis.

RESUMO

In fertility-sparing management (FSM), two different issues can be distinguished: the risk of recurrence/death and the chance of childbearing. Survival is the principal outcome in oncology, and definitions of overall survival and progression-free survival are therefore well defined and widely accepted. The introduction of FSM to clinical practice was determined by the desire of young cancer patients to still have children. Initially, in small groups of patients, any pregnancy and/or childbirth were considered successes. Nowadays, FSM occupies an important place in cancer treatment, with thousands of young women treated successfully. However, in contrast to survival, no definition has been established for evaluating the reproductive outcomes of FSM. This review article evaluates the current pregnancy and birth rates of cancer patients. Differences between fertility-sparing and conservative treatment are analyzed, and improper and confusing interchangeable applications of these terms are pointed out. Additionally, various reasons for choosing FSM as a treatment method-which are not directly related to fertility preservation (treatment mismatch)-are presented. Uniform definitions of reproduction after FSM should be established to enable the comparison of results and facilitate the counseling of patients regarding the chances of reproduction.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To assess the experience and knowledge of Polish women up to 50 years of age about fertility and its disorders. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A self-composed questionnaire consisting of 44 questions, divided into six sections, was available in social media from January until February 2020. The answers to 13 single-choice questions were analyzed to assess the level of knowledge. Statistical analysis was performed with the use of Statistica 13.0, with p value < 0.05 considered significant. RESULTS: A total of 3,321 correctly filled out questionnaires were obtained. The average result was 8.88 out of 13 single-choice questions regarding the basics of the menstrual cycle and infertility (median 9, standard deviation [SD] 2.21). As many as 65.2% of respondents did not know which days in the cycle were fertile days. The women who had been and/or were pregnant at the time of survey, more often answered better than those, who had never given birth. They had a better mean score of 13 single-choice questions compared to those who had never been pregnant (9.02 vs 8.61, p < 0.001). Respondents who obtained information about infertility from doctors in 86.97% knew that regular intercourse meant 2-3 times per week in comparison to 79.7% of those who were not educated by medical practitioners (p < 0.0001). 69.8% respondents from the first group knew that the test of ovarian reserve existed in comparison to 55.63% of women from the second group (p < 0.0001). CONCLUSIONS: The research has shown that the knowledge about fertility and its disorders is not satisfying among Polish women.

RESUMO

COVID-19 in pregnant women increases the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes, including preeclampsia. This meta-analysis aimed to examine the effect of SARS-CoV-2 infection on sFlt-1/PIGF ratio during pregnancy. The study was designed as a systematic review and meta-analysis. PubMed, Web of Science, Embase and Cochrane Library were searched for relevant studies reporting the sFlt-1/PlGF ratio in pregnant women with COVID-19. Results were compared using meta-analysis by the Mantel-Haenszel method. A total of 7 studies were included in the analysis. sFlt-1/PlGF ratios between COVID-19 positive vs. negative women were 45.8 ± 50.3 vs. 37.4 ± 22.5, respectively (SMD = 1.76; 95% CI: 0.43 to 3.09; p = 0.01). sFlt-1/PlGF ratios between asymptomatic vs. symptomatic patients were 49.3 ± 35.7 vs. 37.1 ± 25.6 (SMD = 0.30; 95% CI: -0.35 to 0.95; p = 0.36). sFlt-1/PlGF ratio in non-severe group was 30.7 ± 56.5, compared to 64.7 ± 53.5 for severe patients (SMD = -1.88; 95% CI: -3.77 to 0.01; p = 0.05). sFlt-1/PlGF ratios in COVID-19 patients, with and without hypertensive disease of pregnancy, were 187.0 ± 121.8 vs. 21.6 ± 8.6, respectively (SMD = 2.46; 95% CI: 0.99 to 3.93; p = 0.001). Conclusions: Patients with COVID-19, as compared to patients without COVID-19, were characterized by higher sFlt-1/PlGF ratio. Moreover, severe COVID-19 and SARS-CoV-2 infection in hypertensive pregnant women was related to significantly higher sFlt-1/PlGF ratio.

RESUMO

Since 1973, when the term Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) was introduced, a major impact has been put on raising awareness about the negative effects of prenatal alcohol exposure. This study aimed to compare the level of knowledge about the risks of alcohol consumption during pregnancy among three last generations of women in Poland, in order to assess the effectiveness of prenatal education regarding FAS. An online questionnaire was conducted among women of reproductive age, between February and March 2022. The level of knowledge was determined based on the average number of correct answers to 9 questions. Data were analyzed using Cochran-Armitage, ANOVA Kruskal-Wallis, Cochran-Mentel-Haenszel and Pearson's chi-squared tests. Out of 471 women participating in the study, 34.8% belonged to Generation Z (15-25 years), 55.6% to Generation Y (26-41 years), and 9.6% to Generation X (42-49 years). The average score of correct answers was the highest for Generation Y women (7.55 points) and the lowest for Generation X (6.96 points). Women from Generation Z scored 7.27 points on average. The ANOVA Kruskal-Wallis test was performed with p = 0.07. The level of women's knowledge about the risks of alcohol consumption during pregnancy suggests that education regarding FAS in Poland is less effective in recent years.

RESUMO

Purpose: The aim of the study was to assess the experience of Polish female cancer patients related to fertility preservation (FP) after gonadotoxic treatment. Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed among young women, who were diagnosed with a neoplasm. The questionnaire was distributed via the Internet. Results: The study group consisted of 299 women. Most of them had breast cancer (34%) or Hodgkin lymphoma (20%). The most popular treatment regimen was a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation (30%). Almost 78% of study participants underwent potentially gonadotoxic treatment. Fifty-seven percent of study participants admitted that oncologist had not informed them about FP methods, while only 19% were encouraged to visit fertility specialists. Seventeen percent of women decided to preserve fertility before malignancy treatment, 11.8% of women cryopreserved oocytes, 16% cryopreserved embryos, 16% cryopreserved ovarian tissue and 55% had ovarian suppression. Conclusion: The access to fertility counseling in Poland is limited. Emphasis should be placed on the coordination between cancer treatment centers and reproductive specialists.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Elevated serum levels of sFlt-1 were found in non-pregnant severe COVID-19 patients. The aim was to investigate sFlt-1/PlGF ratio as a predictor of severe disease and adverse outcome in pregnant women with COVID-19. METHODS: A single-center case-control study was conducted in pregnant women with SARS-CoV-2 infection. SARS-CoV-2-negative pregnant women served as controls. Serum sFlt-1/PlGF ratio was assessed. The primary outcome was severe COVID-19 and the secondary outcome comprised adverse outcomes including severe COVID-19, intensive care unit admission, maternal multiple organ failure, preterm delivery, fetal demise, preeclampsia or hypertension diagnosed after COVID-19, maternal death. RESULTS: 138 women with SARS-CoV-2 infection and 140 controls were included. sFlt-1/PlGF ratio was higher in infected patients (11.2 vs. 24; p < 0.01) and in women with severe disease (50.8 vs. 16.2; p < 0.01). However, it was similar in women with adverse and non-adverse outcome (29.8 vs. 20; p = 0.2). The AUC of sFlt-1/PlGF ratio was 0.66 (95% CI 0.56-0.76) for the prediction of severe COVID-19, and 0.72 (95% CI 0.63-0.79) for the prediction of adverse outcome. CONCLUSIONS: sFlt-1 and sFlt-1/PlGF ratio are related to SARS-CoV-2 infection and the severity of COVID-19 during pregnancy. However, sFlt-1/PlGF ratio is not a good predictor of severe COVID-19 or adverse outcome.

RESUMO

Uterine sarcomas occur very rarely in young women. Hysterectomy, which is a standard treatment, may not be acceptable for those patients, especially nulliparous women. Fertility-sparing management may be an alternative. The aim of the study was to assess fertility-sparing management in patients with uterine sarcoma. Eleven patients were eligible for the study. Histopathologic types of the tumor included: adenosarcoma (n = 3), low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma (n = 3), low-grade myofibroblastic sarcoma (n = 1), leiomyosarcoma (n = 1), leiomyosarcoma myxoides (n = 1), rhabdomyosarcoma (n = 1), high grade endometrial stromal sarcoma (n = 1). The mean age of the patients at the time of diagnosis was 27.4 years (range: 17-35) and the average follow-up 61 months (range: 12-158). Six patients received adjuvant treatment: megestrol (n = 5) and chemotherapy (n = 1). Recurrence was diagnosed in five cases. Median time to recurrence was 35 months (range: 8-90). Three patients conceived spontaneously following treatment and gave at least one live birth. In total, five full-term pregnancies were recorded and five healthy children were born. Fertility-sparing management may be considered in some patients with uterine sarcoma; however, it may not be appropriate in high-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma. Patients with adenosarcoma may have a low chance of childbearing.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Delayed cord clamping increases placental transfusion. In vaginal deliveries higher hemoglobin concentrations are found in the second-born twin. We hypothesized it is unrelated to intertwin transfusion but to the time of cord clamping. METHODS: It was a prospective cohort study of 202 women delivering twins > 32 weeks of gestation. Monoamniotic pregnancy, antenatal intertwin transfusions, fetal demise or major abnormalities were excluded from the study. The time of cord clamping depended on the obstetrician's decision. Hemoglobin, hematocrit, and reticulocyte count were measured at birth and during the second day of life. RESULTS: At birth, hemoglobin and hematocrit levels were significantly higher in the first-born twins delivered with delayed than with early cord clamping. Higher hemoglobin and hematocrit levels were observed during the second day of life in all twins delivered with delayed cord clamping. The lowest levels were observed in twins delivered with early cord clamping. Infants delivered with delayed cord clamping were at a lower risk of respiratory disorders and NICU hospitalization. CONCLUSION: The observed differences in Hgb concentrations between the infants in a twin pregnancy are related to cord clamping time.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: In utero limb ischemia is a rare complication of the monochorionic twin pregnancies complicated with twin to twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS). The condition is more often seen in recipient twins. There are few theories of the pathogenesis including in utero venous thromboembolism, but the cause remains unclear. However, limb ischemia is thought to be unrelated with any prenatal intervention. CASE PRESENTATION: We present a case of a monochorionic twin pregnancy complicated with TTTS admitted to the Clinic for selective fetoscopic laser photocoagulation. The invasive procedure failed due to poor visibility. In the following weeks of pregnancy, amnioreduction procedures were performed. At 28 weeks of gestation due to twin anemia-polycythemia sequence diagnosis the patient was qualified for cesarean section. Postnatally, the donor twin was diagnosed with lower right limb ischemic necrosis. The extremity was amputated 2 days later with an uncomplicated recovery. After speculations of the potential pathogeneses it was suggested that the ischemic limb occurred as a complication of the main condition - TTTS. CONCLUSIONS: In literature, there have been no cases reported of TTTS stage I complicated with donor twin limb ischemia. The actual cause of the in utero limb ischemic necrosis in monochorionic twins remains unknown. Nevertheless, increased attention to the potential complication after failed invasive procedures or conservative treatment should be required.

RESUMO

Uterine leiomyomas are the most common benign tumors of the uterine smooth muscle. The latest FIGO classification, considering both their location and the degree of ingrowth into the uterine muscle, distinguishes eight classes of fibroids [1]. The location of leiomyomas in connection with their size may determine the characteristic symptoms: abdominal pain, pressure symptoms, difficulties in getting pregnant, recurrent miscarriages. Among the case reports there are also descriptions of the so-called parasitic leiomyomas [2]. The paper presents a case report of a parasitic leiomyoma in a young woman who has not been operated on in the abdominal or pelvic organs so far.

RESUMO

Background: The function of the thyroid gland during pregnancy undergoes physiological changes to ensure the proper amount of thyroid hormones for both the pregnant woman and the fetus. Multiple pregnancies (MP) are characterized by specific differences compared to single pregnancies, e.g., higher concentrations of human chorionic gonadotropin, which also affect thyroid function. The aim was to collect available knowledge on maternal thyroid function in MP. Methods: We have systematically searched three databases: the PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus and the Cochrane Library. The last search was run on the 4th of August 2022. We included full-text original observational and experimental studies written in English. Case reports, editorials, letters, conference abstracts, reviews and meta-analyses were excluded. No time criterion was established. Studies were considered eligible if at least one maternal thyroid function test was performed and reported. Studies on MP with a co-existing mole were excluded. The risk of bias was assessed with the use of the AXIS tool. The qualitative synthesis of evidence was applied. Results: The search strategy resulted in the identification of 821 manuscripts. After removing duplicates, we screened the titles and abstracts of 552 articles, out of which 57 were selected for full-text analysis. Finally, 12 articles were included in the review. They were conducted in 6 different countries and published between the years 1997 and 2022. The number of examined women with MP ranged from 9 to 1 626. Discussion and conclusions: Thyroid function differs between women with MP and SP. Scarce data are available on the topic, but MPs are most likely characterized by higher HCG levels, which influences thyroid-stimulating hormone and free thyroid hormone levels. These differences are mainly expressed in the 1st trimester of pregnancy. Separate population-based reference ranges are needed to correctly diagnose thyroid diseases in MP and to avoid unnecessary treatment. Further research is needed to fill the knowledge gaps.

RESUMO

Background: Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory condition characterized by the presence of endometrial-like tissue outside of the uterine cavity. It affects approximately 6-12% among reproductive-age women. Laparoscopy is still the gold standard for diagnosing it. Since an average of couple of years elapses from the onset of symptoms to the definitive diagnosis, analysis of symptoms could serve as a non-invasive diagnostic tool. Methods: An anonymous survey was distributed online in November 2019. It contained 23 closed questions, which covered two areas: knowledge and awareness of endometriosis symptoms and its presence among respondents. Results: A total of 3319 women completed the survey, of which 328 were diagnosed with endometriosis (9.9%). The symptoms of endometriosis most often indicated by the general population were infertility and dysmenorrhea. In contrast, those least frequently indicated were painful defecation and dysuria. Respondents suffering from endometriosis indicated that they often or sometimes experienced dysmenorrhea (83%, n = 273), pelvic pain not related to menstruation (72%, n = 235), dyspareunia (68%, n = 223) and painful defecation or dysuria (40%, n = 132). Conclusions: Since the search for a non-invasive diagnostic endometriosis marker has been conducted for many years without success so far, it seems that awareness of the clinical presentation and reported symptoms may help to provide earlier diagnoses.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: No specific physical activity guidelines are available for women in multiple pregnancy. Aim of the study was to assess the knowledge and experience of women regarding physical activity during their latest twin pregnancy. METHODS: A cross-sectional study including women after a twin delivery was conducted in Poland. A questionnaire was distributed in 2018 via web pages and Facebook groups designed for pregnant women. RESULTS: 652 women filled out the questionnaire completely. Only 25% of women performed any physical exercises during twin gestation. The frequency of preterm delivery was similar in physically active and non-active participants. 35% of the respondents claimed to have gained information on proper activity from obstetricians during antenatal counselling while 11% claimed to be unable to identify the reliable sources of information. 7% of women admitted to feel discriminated by social opinion on exercising during a twin pregnancy. CONCLUSIONS: The population of women with a twin gestation is not sufficiently physically active and is often discouraged from performing exercises during gestation. Therefore, it is crucial to inform obstetricians to recommend active lifestyle during a twin gestation and to provide reliable information on physical activity to pregnant women. Further research on this topic is necessary in order for obstetric providers to counsel women on appropriate exercise with a twin pregnancy.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Preeclampsia occurs more often in dichorionic than in monochorionic twin pregnancy. We hypothesize that serum concentrations of biomarkers: placental growth factor (PlGF), serum soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1), and endoglin (Eng) differ between monochorionic and dichorionic twin pregnancies. METHODS: A prospective observational study including 43 monochorionic and 36 dichorionic twin gestation was conducted. Blood samples were collected twice from all participants: between 11 + 0 and 13 + 6 and between 32 + 0 and 34 + 0 weeks of gestation. PlGF, sFlt-1 and Eng were measured using immnunoenzymatic assays. RESULTS: We found a significantly higher concentration of sFlt-1 in dichorionic in comparison to monochorionic pregnancies in both the first and third trimesters. PlGF and sEng levels did not differ between mono- and dichorionic gestation in both study periods. sFlt-1 level was related to twin gestation chorionicity, while PlGF expression was not. PlGF, sFlt-1 and sEng concentrations increased significantly during gestation and were much higher in the third trimester compared to the values measured in the first trimester. CONCLUSIONS: Angiogenic biomarkers expression differ between dichorionic and monochorionic twin pregnancy. The sFlt-1 level is related to chorionicity of a twin gestation.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Fetal growth of twins differs from singletons. The objective was to assess the fetal growth in twin gestations in relation to singleton charts and customized twin charts, respectively, followed by a comparison of the frequency of neonatal complications in small-for-gestational-age (SGA) twins. METHODS: We performed an analysis of twin pregnancies with established chorionicity with particular emphasis on postnatal adverse outcomes in newborns classified as SGA. Neonatal birth weight was comparatively assessed using both singleton and twin growth charts with following percentile estimation. Using a statistical model, we established the prediction strength of neonatal complications in SGA twins for both methods. RESULTS: The dataset included 322 twin pairs (247 cases of dichorionic and 75 cases of monochorionic diamniotic gestations). Utilization of twin-specific normograms was less likely to label twins as SGA-nevertheless, this diagnosis strongly correlated with risk of observing adverse outcomes. Using a chart dedicated for twin pregnancies predicted newborn complications in the SGA group with higher sensitivity and had better positive predictive value regarding postnatal morbidity. CONCLUSIONS: Estimating twin growth with customized charts provides better prognosis of undesirable neonatal events in the SGA group comparing to singleton nomograms and consequently might determine neonatal intensive care prenatal approach.
