RESUMO

Recently noted that the methylene blue cause severe central nervous system toxicity. It is essential to optimize the methylene blue from aqueous environment. In this study, a comparison of an optimization of methylene blue was investigated by using modified Ca(2+) and Zn(2+) bio-polymer hydrogel beads. A batch mode study was conducted using various parameters like time, dye concentration, bio-polymer dose, pH and process temperature. The isotherms, kinetics, diffusion and thermodynamic studies were performed for feasibility of the optimization process. Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm equations were used for the prediction of isotherm parameters and correlated with dimensionless separation factor (RL). Pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order Lagegren's kinetic equations were used for the correlation of kinetic parameters. Intraparticle diffusion model was employed for diffusion of the optimization process. The Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) shows different absorbent peaks of Ca(2+) and Zn(2+) beads and the morphology of the bio-polymer material analyzed with Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The TG & DTA studies show that good thermal stability with less humidity without production of any non-degraded products.

RESUMO

The kinetic, thermodynamic and isotherm modeling studies were carried out on adsorptive removal of Victoria blue (VB) dye using activated carbon, Ba/alginate and modified carbon/Ba/alginate polymer beads. The feasibility of sorption process was determined by varying the experimental parameters viz., dye concentration (4-20 mg L(-1)), contact time (10-90 min), pH (3-10), adsorbent dose (0.5-2.5 g) and temperature (303-343 K). Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms were determined and ascertained with the dimensionless separation factor (RL). Lagergren's pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order and intraparticle diffusion model equations were used to analyze the kinetics of the adsorption process. The thermodynamic consistency of adsorption was found with Gibbs free energy (ΔG°), changes in enthalpy (ΔH°) and entropy (ΔS°) were calculated using the Van't Hoff plot. The polymer beads were characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and their morphology was determined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

RESUMO

The research article describes the experimental and modeling study for the adsorptive removal of aniline blue dye (AB dye) from aqueous matrices using a Prosopis Juliflora modified carbon/Ca/alginate polymer bead as a low cost and eco-friendly adsorbent. The rate of adsorption was investigated under various experimental parameters such as contact time, adsorbent dose, dye concentration, pH and temperature. The kinetics, equilibrium and thermodynamic studies were assessed to find out the efficiency of the adsorption process. The equilibrium uptake capacity of the adsorption process was found with Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption isotherm equations and it was evaluated by dimensionless separation factor (R(L)). The dynamics of adsorption was predicted by pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order Lagergren's equation and intra particle diffusion model. Adsorption feasibility was assessed with thermodynamic parameters such as isosteric heat of adsorption (ΔH°), standard entropy (ΔS°) and Gibbs free energy (ΔG°) using VantHoff plot. The alginate bead was characterized with FTIR spectroscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM).

RESUMO

Tridentate triazole based Schiff base 4-salicylideneamino-3-methyl-1,2,4-triazole-5-thione has been found to selectively detect toxic aromatic amines such as aniline and benzene-1,4-diamine by simple titration techniques like UV-visible, fluorescence spectral studies (PL) and 1H NMR titrations. The Schiff base receptor utilizes, thione sulfur, NH-thione and the phenolic hydroxyl group to form hydrogen bonded adduct of aniline and benzene-1,4-diamine with high binding affinity, followed by a slow removal of the corresponding hydrogens thus providing a promising candidate and an unique receptor for toxic aromatic amines.

RESUMO

The fundamental dosimetric characteristics of commercially available metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) detectors were studied for clinical electron beam irradiations. MOSFET showed excellent linearity against doses measured using an ion chamber in the dose range of 20-630cGy. MOSFET reproducibility is better at high doses compared to low doses. The output factors measured with the MOSFET were within +/-3% when compared with those measured with a parallel plate chamber. From 4 to 12MeV, MOSFETs showed a large angular dependence in the tilt directions and less in the axial directions. MOSFETs do not show any dose-rate dependence between 100 and 600MU/min. However, MOSFETs have shown under-response when the dose per pulse of the beam is decreased. No measurable effect in MOSFET response was observed in the temperature range of 23-40 degrees C. The energy dependence of a MOSFET dosimeter was within +/-3.0% for 6-18MeV electron beams and 5.5% for 4MeV ones. This study shows that MOSFET detectors are suitable for dosimetry of electron beams in the energy range of 4-18MeV.

RESUMO

U.v.-visible-absorption and e.p.r. spectroscopy were used to study the type 2 and type 3 copper centres in the mercury derivative of laccase. After treatment with peroxide the mercury derivative of laccase exhibits a fully developed absorption band at 330 nm (delta epsilon = 2900 +/- 100 M-1.cm-1, which is characteristic of type 3 copper in the oxidized state. In addition, there is a weak ligand-field absorption at 740 nm (epsilon = 380 +/- 30 M-1.cm-1), which can be assigned to the type 3 pair. Because the e.p.r. spectrum of the type 2 copper is well resolved in the case of the mercury derivative of laccase, for the first time we have been able to observe spectroscopic evidence for a pH-dependent structural transition that has been invoked to explain the kinetics of enzyme reduction [Andréasson & Reinhammar (1979) Biochim. Biophys. Acta 568, 145-156]. According to the e.p.r. data the pKa lies in the range 6-7, and comparisons with a model compound show that the spectral changes can plausibly be interpreted in terms of the deprotonation of a water molecule in the co-ordination sphere of the type 2 copper.

RESUMO

A simple colorimetric test for the Cu(I) content in blue copper proteins is described. The procedure is based on the formation of a complex between Cu(I) and 2,2'-biquinoline in an acetic acid medium. Analyses of spinach plastocyanin, Pseudomonas aeruginosa azurin and Rhus vernicifera stellacyanin show that the cysteine residue in the type 1 site does not induce Cu(II) reduction under our conditions. There is evidence in laccase samples for the presence of an endogenous reductant that can reduce 0.14 +/- 0.04 mol of Cu(II)/mol of protein; however, the addition of EDTA eliminates the interference. The analysis shows that 25 +/- 2% of the type 3 copper ions are in the reduced form in the resting enzyme and that 80 +/- 15% of the type 3 copper ions are reduced in preparations of type-2-depleted laccase. There is growing interest in the development of chemically modified forms of laccase, and our method should be very useful for establishing the valence state of the metal centres in the various derivatives.
