RESUMO

Abnormalities in adrenal gland size may be associated with various diseases. Monitoring the volume of adrenal gland can provide a quantitative imaging indicator for such conditions as adrenal hyperplasia, adrenal adenoma, and adrenal cortical adenocarcinoma. However, current adrenal gland segmentation models have notable limitations in sample selection and imaging parameters, particularly the need for more training on low-dose imaging parameters, which limits the generalization ability of the models, restricting their widespread application in routine clinical practice. We developed a fully automated adrenal gland volume quantification and visualization tool based on the no new U-Net (nnU-Net) for the automatic segmentation of deep learning models to address these issues. We established this tool by using a large dataset with multiple parameters, machine types, radiation doses, slice thicknesses, scanning modes, phases, and adrenal gland morphologies to achieve high accuracy and broad adaptability. The tool can meet clinical needs such as screening, monitoring, and preoperative visualization assistance for adrenal gland diseases. Experimental results demonstrate that our model achieves an overall dice coefficient of 0.88 on all images and 0.87 on low-dose CT scans. Compared to other deep learning models and nnU-Net model tools, our model exhibits higher accuracy and broader adaptability in adrenal gland segmentation.

PURPOSE: To investigate the renal fat deposition on Dixon-based magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and to explore the predictive value of renal fat biomarkers of magnetic resonance (MR-RFBs) for early kidney damage in obesity. METHODS: This prospective study included 56 obese volunteers and 47 non-obese healthy volunteers. All volunteers underwent renal magnetic resonance examinations. The differences in MR-RFBs [including renal proton density fat fraction (PDFF), renal sinus fat volume (RSFV), and perirenal fat thickness (PRFT)] measured on Dixon-based MRI between the obese and non-obese volunteers were analyzed using a general linear model, taking sex, age, diabetes, and hypertension as covariates. The relationship between estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and demographic, laboratory, and imaging parameters in obese volunteers was examined by correlation analysis. RESULTS: Obese volunteers had higher MR-RFBs than non-obese volunteers after controlling for confounders (all p < 0.001). Renal PDFF (r = - 0.383; p = 0.004), RSFV (r = - 0.368; p = 0.005), and PRFT (r = - 0.451; p < 0.001) were significantly negatively correlated with eGFR in obesity. After adjusting for age, sex, body mass index, diabetes, hypertension, visceral adipose tissue, subcutaneous adipose tissue, renal PDFF, and RSFV, PRFT remained independently negatively associated with eGFR (ß = - 0.587; p = 0.003). CONCLUSIONS: All MR-RFBs are negatively correlated with eGFR in obesity. The MR-RFBs, especially PRFT, may have predictive value for early kidney damage in obesity.

OBJECTIVES: To determine whether MRI can predict the necessity of rectosigmoid resection (RR) for optimal debulking surgery (ODS) in ovarian cancer (OC) patients and to compare the predictive accuracy of pre- and post-neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) MRI. METHODS: The MRI of 82 OC were retrospectively analyzed, including six bowel signs (length, transverse axis, thickness, circumference, muscularis involvement, and submucosal edema) and four para-intestinal signs (vaginal, parametrial, ureteral, and sacro-recto-genital septum involvement). The parameters reflecting the degree of muscularis involvement were measured. Patients were divided into non-RR and RR groups based on the operation and postoperative outcomes. The independent predictors of the need for RR were identified by multivariate logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: Imaging for 82 patients was evaluated (67 without and 15 with NACT). Submucosal edema and muscularis involvement (OR 13.33 and 8.40, respectively) were independent predictors of the need for RR, with sensitivities of 83.3% and 94.4% and specificities of 93.9% and 81.6%, respectively. Among the parameters reflecting the degree of muscularis involvement, circumference ≥ 3/12 had the highest prediction accuracy, increasing the specificity from 81.6% for muscularis involvement only to 98.0%, with only a slight decrease in sensitivity (from 94.4% to 88.9%). The predictive sensitivities of pre-NACT and post-NACT MRI were 100.0% and 12.5%, respectively, and the specificities were 85.7% and 100.0%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: MRI analysis of rectosigmoid muscularis involvement and its circumference can help predict the necessity of RR in OC patients, and pre-NACT MRI may be more suitable for evaluation. CRITICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: We analyzed preoperative pelvic MRI in OC patients. Our findings suggest that MRI has predictive potential for identifying patients who require RR to achieve ODS. KEY POINTS: The need for RR must be determined to optimize treatment for OC patients. Muscularis involvement circumference ≥ 3/12 could help predict RR. Pre-NACT MRI may be superior to post-NACT MRI in predicting RR.

Doubled haploid (DH) technology provides an effective way to generate homozygous genetic and breeding materials over a short period of time. We produced three types of homozygous TtMTL gene-edited mutants (mtl-a, mtl-b, and mtl-ab) by CRISPR/Cas9 in durum wheat. PCR restriction enzymes and sequencing confirmed that the editing efficiency was up to 53.5%. The seed-setting rates of the three types of mutants ranged from 20% to 60%. Abnormal grain phenotypes of kernel, embryo, and both embryo and endosperm abortions were observed in the progenies of the mutants. The average frequency of embryo-less grains was 25.3%. Chromosome counting, guard cell length, and flow cytometry confirmed that the haploid induction rate was in the range of 3%-21% in the cross- and self-pollinated progenies of the mtl mutants (mtl-a and mtl-ab). Furthermore, we co-transformed two vectors, pCRISPR/Cas9-MTL and pBD68-(ZmR + ZmC1), into durum wheat, to pyramide Ttmtl-edited mutations and embryo-specifically expressed anthocyanin markers, and developed a homozygous durum haploid inducer with purple embryo (DHIPE). Using DHIPE as the male parent to be crossed with the wild-type Kronos, the grains with white embryos were identified as haploid, while the grains with purple embryos were diploid. These findings will promote the breeding of new tetraploid wheat varieties.

KEY MESSAGE: Two wheat-Ae. longissima translocation chromosomes (1BS·1SlL and 1SlS·1BL) were transferred into three commercial wheat varieties, and the new advanced lines showed improved bread-making quality compared to their recurrent parents. Aegilops longissima chromosome 1Sl encodes specific types of gluten subunits that may positively affect wheat bread-making quality. The most effective method of introducing 1Sl chromosomal fragments containing the target genes into wheat is chromosome translocation. Here, a wheat-Ae. longissima 1BS·1SlL translocation line was developed using molecular marker-assisted chromosome engineering. Two types of translocation chromosomes developed in a previous study, 1BS·1SlL and 1SlS·1BL, were introduced into three commercial wheat varieties (Ningchun4, Ningchun50, and Westonia) via backcrossing with marker-assisted selection. Advanced translocation lines were confirmed through chromosome in situ hybridization and genotyping by target sequencing using the wheat 40 K system. Bread-making quality was found to be improved in the two types of advanced translocation lines compared to the corresponding recurrent parents. Furthermore, 1SlS·1BL translocation lines displayed better bread-making quality than 1BS·1SlL translocation lines in each genetic background. Further analysis revealed that high molecular weight glutenin subunit (HMW-GS) contents and expression levels of genes encoding low molecular weight glutenin subunits (LMW-GSs) were increased in 1SlS·1BL translocation lines. Gliadin and gluten-related transcription factors were also upregulated in the grains of the two types of advanced translocation lines compared to the recurrent parents. This study clarifies the impacts of specific glutenin subunits on bread-making quality and provides novel germplasm resources for further improvement of wheat quality through molecular breeding.

OBJECTIVES: Parenchymal-sparing hepatectomy (PSH) is recommended in patients with colorectal liver metastases (CRLM). Based on the principle of PSH, to investigate the impact of anatomical resection (AR) and non-anatomic resection (NAR) on the outcome of CRLM and to evaluate the potential prognostic impact of three peritumoral imaging features. METHODS: Fifty-six patients who had abdominal gadoxetic acid-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) before CRLM surgery were included in this retrospective research. Peritumoral early enhancement, peritumoral hypointensity on hepatobiliary phase (HBP), and biliary dilatation to the CRLM at MRI were evaluated. Survival estimates were calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method, and multivariate analysis was conducted to identify independent predictors of liver recurrence-free survival (LRFS), recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS). RESULTS: NAR had a lower 3-year LRFS compared with AR (36.6% vs. 78.6%, p = 0.012). No significant differences were found in 3-year RFS (34.1% vs. 41.7%) and OS (61.7% vs. 81.3%) (p > 0.05). In NAR group, peritumoral early enhancement was associated with poor LRFS (p = < 0.001, hazard ratio [HR] = 6.260; 95% confidence interval [CI], 2.322,16.876]) and poor RFS (p = 0.035, HR =2.516; 95% CI, 1.069,5.919). No independent predictors of CRLM were identified in the AR group. CONCLUSIONS: In patients with CRLM, peritumoral early enhancement was a predictor of LRFS and RFS after NAR according to the principle of PSH.

Histone acetylation is the earliest and most well-characterized of post-translation modifications. It is mediated by histone acetyltransferases (HAT) and histone deacetylases (HDAC). Histone acetylation could change the chromatin structure and status and further regulate gene transcription. In this study, nicotinamide, a histone deacetylase inhibitor (HDACi), was used to enhance the efficiency of gene editing in wheat. Transgenic immature and mature wheat embryos harboring a non-mutated GUS gene, the Cas9 and a GUS-targeting sgRNA were treated with nicotinamide in two concentrations (2.5 and 5 mM) for 2, 7, and 14 days in comparison with a no-treatment control. The nicotinamide treatment resulted in GUS mutations in up to 36% of regenerated plants, whereas no mutants were obtained from the non-treated embryos. The highest efficiency was achieved when treated with 2.5 mM nicotinamide for 14 days. To further validate the impact of nicotinamide treatment on the effectiveness of genome editing, the endogenous TaWaxy gene, which is responsible for amylose synthesis, was tested. Utilizing the aforementioned nicotinamide concentration to treat embryos containing the molecular components for editing the TaWaxy gene, the editing efficiency could be increased to 30.3% and 13.3%, respectively, for immature and mature embryos in comparison to the 0% efficiency observed in the control group. In addition, nicotinamide treatment during transformation progress could also improve the efficiency of genome editing approximately threefold in a base editing experiment. Nicotinamide, as a novel approach, may be employed to improve the editing efficacy of low-efficiency genome editing tools such as base editing and prime editing (PE) systems in wheat.

Wheat protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) is involved in the formation of glutenin macropolymers (GMP) and the correct folding and accumulation of storage proteins in endosperm. In present study, seven types of homozygous TaPDI gene edited mutants were obtained by CRISPR/Cas9 technology, which were confirmed by PCR-RE and sequencing. Compared with other mutants and wild type (WT), the grain length and width in mutant PDI-abd-6 which was edited for the three TaPDI homoeologous genes were reduced, and the grain middle parts were slumped. The GMP size in PDI-abd-6 was not significantly different from that in WT, whereas the accumulation of protein bodies (PBs) increased during grain development. The endosperm cells became denser in PDI-abd-6 without sheet-like structure, and the expression level of TaBiP gene was significantly decreased. Particularly, the GMP content in PDI-abd-6 is also decreased significantly. The basic bread and flour rheological parameters in the mutant were negatively changed compared with those in WT. Our results indicated that TaPDI genes affects wheat flour-processing quality by the order of TaPDI-4B, TaPDI-4D, and TaPDI-4A from high to low; the expression of either one TaPDI could be enough to maintain the GMP accumulation and processing properties of wheat dough.

A high-performance gel permeation chromatography fluorescence detection (HPGPC-FD) method combined with fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) labeling was established for the microanalysis of L. barbarum polysaccharides (LBP). The calibration curves linear over the range of 0.2-20 µg/mL in rat plasma, and 0.25-500 µg/mL in urine and feces samples with correlation coefficients greater than 0.99. The inter-day and intra-day precisions (RSD, %) of the method were under 15% with the relative recovery ranging from 84.6% to 104.0% and the RSD ranging from 0.47% to 7.28%. The concentration-time curve of LBP-FITC in plasma following intragastric administration at 100, 50 and 25 mg/kg well fitted to a nonlinear model. LBP-FITC slowly eliminated from plasma according to the long half-lives (t1/2 = 31.39, 38.09, and 45.76 h, respectively) and mean retention times (MRT0-t = 18.38, 19.15 and 20.07 h, respectively; AUC0-∞ = 230.49, 236.18 and 242.57 h, respectively) after administration of LBP-FITC at doses of 100, 50, and 25 mg/kg, respectively. After intragastric administration at 50 mg/kg for 72 h, the concentration of LBP-FITC in urine and feces was 0.09 ± 0.04% and 92.18 ± 3.61% respectively; the excretion rate of urine was the highest in 0-4 h period and decreased continuously in 4-24 h period. The excretion rate of feces was the highest in 4-10 h, 48.28 ± 9.349% in feces within 4-10 h, and decreased rapidly in 10-24 h. The present study showed that LBP was absorbed as its prototype and most proportion of LBP was excreted from feces, indicating a long time remaining in intestine.

Toxoplasma gondii is a protozoan with worldwide distribution that infects birds and mammals, including humans. The consumption of free-range chicken meat is a common practice in many parts of the world. However, little information is available concerning the molecular prevalence and genotypes of T. gondii infection in free-range chickens intended for human consumption in China. In this study, a total of 1360 serum samples were collected from food markets in Hunan province of China for detecting T. gondii antibodies by indirect hemagglutination assay. In addition, 650 brain tissues were also collected to investigate T. gondii DNA by amplification of B1 gene with a seminested polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and the positive DNA samples were typed at 10 genetic markers using multilocus PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism. Antibodies to T. gondii were detected in 457 of the examined serum samples (33.6%; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 31.1-36.1), and 72 DNA samples (11.1%; 95% CI: 8.6-13.4) were positive for the T. gondii B1 gene. In this study, region and age of free-range chickens were shown to be risk factors for T. gondii infection (p < 0.01). Two genotypes (ToxoDB#9 and ToxoDB#52) were identified from two samples with complete genotyping results. Our study revealed a high prevalence of T. gondii infection in free-range chickens intended for human consumption in Hunan province, suggesting that recommendations to consumers should be made, especially in some regions of China where consumption of undercooked chicken meat is common. This is the first genetic characterization of T. gondii in free-range chickens intended for human consumption in Hunan province, China, and also the first report of genotype ToxoDB#52 in China.

The TaQ alleles as one of the AP2-like transcription factors in common wheat (Triticum aestivum) play an important role in the evolution of spike characteristics from wild and domesticated emmer to modern wheat cultivars. Its loss-of-function mutant not only changed threshability and spike architecture but also affected plant height, flowering time, and floret structure. However, the comprehensive functions of TaAQ and TaDq genes in wheat have not been fully elucidated yet. Here, CRISPR/SpCas9 was used to edit wheat TaAQ and TaDq. We obtained homozygous plants in the T1 generation with loss of function of only TaAQ or TaDq and simultaneous loss of function of TaAQ and TaDq to analyze the effect of these genes on wheat spikes and floret shapes. The results demonstrated that the TaAQ-edited plants and the TaAQ and TaDq simultaneously-edited plants were nearly similar in spike architecture, whereas the TaDq-edited plants were different from the wild-type ones only in plant height. Moreover, the TaAQ-edited plants or the TaAQ and TaDq simultaneously-edited plants were more brittle than the wild-type and the TaDq-edited plants. Based on the expression profiling, we postulated that the VRN1, FUL2, SEP2, SEP5, and SEP6 genes might affect the number of spikelets and florets per spike in wheat by regulating the expression of TaQ. Combining the results of this report and previous reports, we conceived a regulatory network of wheat traits, including plant height, spike shape, and floral organs, which were influenced by AP2-like family genes. The results achieved in this study will help us to understand the regulating mechanisms of TaAQ and TaDq alleles on wheat floral organs and inflorescence development.

Linguistic preference relations are widely used by decision makers to elicit their preferences over alternatives in the Group Decision Making (GDM) process. Recent studies have shown that self-confidence, as an important human psychological behavior, has an important influence on decision-making results. However, multiple self-confidence levels of decision makers are seldom considered in the linguistic preference relation. Meanwhile many real-word decision-making problems are analyzed in a hierarchical structure, in which a complicated problem can be divided into several easier comprehended sub-problems. Hence, this paper aims at designing a linguistic hierarchy model with self-confidence preference relation (LHM-SCPR) to discuss complex GDM problems in a hierarchical structure. In the SC-LPR, each element contains two components, the first one is the preference value between pairs of alternatives, and the second one that is defined on a linguistic term set represents decision maker's self-confidence level associated to the first component. Meanwhile, a nonlinear programming model is proposed to derive individual preference vector from SC-LPR. Then, we apply LHM-SCPR in co-regulation of food safety to present the validity of this method, and find that improving the participation skills regarding co-regulation of food safety is the most pressing task. Finally, detailed comparative analysis and discussion are presented to verify the validity of the proposal.

The social network has emerged as an essential component in group decision making (GDM) problems. Thus, this paper investigates the social network GDM (SNGDM) problem and assumes that decision makers offer their preferences utilizing additive preference relations (also called fuzzy preference relations). An optimization-based approach is devised to generate the weights of decision makers by combining two reliable resources: in-degree centrality indexes and consistency indexes. Based on the obtained weights of decision makers, the individual additive preference relations are aggregated into a collective additive preference relation. Further, the alternatives are ranked from best to worst according to the obtained collective additive preference relation. Moreover, earthquakes have occurred frequently around the world in recent years, causing great loss of life and property. Earthquake shelters offer safety, security, climate protection, and resistance to disease and ill health and are thus vital for disaster-affected people. Selection of a suitable site for locating shelters from potential alternatives is of critical importance, which can be seen as a GDM problem. When selecting a suitable earthquake shelter-site, the social trust relationships among disaster management experts should not be ignored. To this end, the proposed SNGDM model is applied to evaluate and select earthquake shelter-sites to show its effectiveness. In summary, this paper constructs a novel GDM framework by taking the social trust relationship into account, which can provide a scientific basis for public emergency management in the major disasters field.

Intestinal-type gastric cancer (GC) of the Lauren classification system has specific epidemiological characteristics and carcinogenesis patterns. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have prognostic significance, and some can be used as prognostic biomarkers in GC. In this study, we identified miR-1224 as a potential survival-related miRNA in intestinal-type GC patients by The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) analysis. Using quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR), we showed that the relative expression of miR-1224 was significantly decreased in intestinal-type GC tissues compared to matched adjacent normal mucosa tissues (p < 0.01). We found that high miR-1224 expression was associated with no lymph-node metastasis (p < 0.05) and good prognosis (p = 0.028) in 90 intestinal-type GC tissues. Transfection of intestinal-type GC cells with miR-1224 mimics showed that miR-1224 suppressed cell migration in vitro (wound healing assay and Transwell migration assay), whereas the transfection of cells with miR-1224 inhibitor promoted cell migration in vitro. miR-1224 also suppressed intestinal-type GC cell metastasis in a xenograft mouse model. Furthermore, bioinformatics, luciferase reporter, Western blotting, and immunohistochemistry (IHC) studies demonstrated that miR-1224 directly bound to the focal adhesion kinase (FAK) gene, and downregulated its expression, which decreased STAT3 and NF-κB signaling and subsequent the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Repression of FAK is required for the miR-1224-mediated inhibition of cell migration in intestinal-type GC. The present study demonstrated that miR-1224 is downregulated in intestinal-type GC. miR-1224 inhibits the metastasis of intestinal-type GC by suppressing FAK-mediated activation of the STAT3 and NF-κB pathways, and subsequent EMT. miR-1224 could represent an important prognostic factor in intestinal-type GC.

Lycium barbarum polysaccharide (LBP), as one bioactive macromolecular abstracted from goji berry, has shown an abundance of potential function. The present study aimed to evaluate the metabolic effects of LBP on the urine and liver metabolomics on a high-fat diet and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rat model. After 8 weeks of high-fat diet and streptozotocin induction of diabetes, 24 diabetic rats were randomly allocated to the diabetic control (DC) group, LBP low, moderate, and high dosage (LBP-L, LBP-M, LBP-H) groups and 6 non-diabetic rats were established as the non-diabetic control (NDC) group for 30 days' intervention. Metabolomics was performed on liver and urine. LBP positively regulated fasting blood glucose, hemoglobin-A1c, homeostasis model assessment for insulin resistance, liver glycogen and SOD levels significantly, as compared to the DC group. Liver metabolomics showed higher levels of myo-inositol and lower levels of L-malic acid, fumaric acid, D-arabitol, L-allothreonine 1, xylitol, O-phosphorylethanolamine, ribitol, 5-methoxytryptamine 2 and digitoxose 2 in the LBP-H group vs. the DC group, which indicates that LBP may regulate the citrate cycle, alanine, aspartate and glutamate metabolism, glyoxylate and dicarboxylate metabolism. Urine metabolomics showed increased levels of creatinine, D-galacturonic acid 2, 2,3-dihydroxybutyric acid and citric acid, and decreased levels of methylmalonic acid, benzoic acid and xylitol between the LBP-H and DC groups. The present study exhibited the effects of LBP on the urine and liver metabolomics in a high-fat diet and streptozotocin-induced rat model, which not only provides a better understanding of the anti-diabetic effects of LBP but also supplies a useful database for further specific mechanism study.

This study used cytology, cytochemistry, and non-targeted metabolomics to investigate the distribution characteristic of polysaccharides, lipids, and all the metabolites present during five wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) anther developmental stages to provide insights into wheat anther development. Anthers were collected from the tetrad through trinucleate stages, and 1.5% (w/v) acetocarmine and 4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole staining were used to confirm the developmental stage and visualize the nuclei, respectively. Polysaccharides and lipids were detected by staining with periodic acid-Schiff and Sudan Black B, respectively. The integrated optical density of the tapetum and microspores were calculated using IPP6.0 software. Furthermore, the metabolites were identified by gas chromatograph system coupled with a Pegasus HT time-of-flight mass spectrometer (GC-TOF-MS). The results indicated that the interior and exterior surface cells of anthers are orderly. Pollen was rich in numerous nutrient substances (e.g., lipids, insoluble carbohydrates, and others), and formed a normal sperm cell that contained three nuclei, i.e., one vegetative nuclei and two reproductive nuclei in the mature pollen. Semi-thin sectioning indicated that the tapetum cells degraded progressively from the tetrad to late uninucleate stage and disappeared from the bi-to trinucleate stages. Moreover, nutrient substances (lipids and insoluble carbohydrates) accumulated, were synthesized in the pollen, and gradually increased from the tetrad to trinucleate stages. Finally, the metabolomics results identified that 146 metabolites were present throughout the wheat anther developmental stages. Principal component analysis, hierarchical cluster analysis, and metabolite-metabolite correlation revealed distinct dynamic changes in metabolites. The metabolism of organic acids, amino acids, sugars, fatty acids, amines, polyols, and nucleotides were interrelated and involved in the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle and glycolysis. Furthermore, their interactions were revealed using an integrated metabolic map, which indicated that the TCA cycle and glycolysis were very active during anther development to provide the required energy for anther and pollen development. Our study provides valuable insights into the mechanisms of substance metabolism in wheat anthers and can be used for possible application by metabolic engineers for the improvement of cell characteristics or creating new compounds and molecular breeders in improving pollen fertility or creating the ideal male sterile line, to improve wheat yield per unit area to address global food security.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: As the most widely produced edible vegetable oil, palm oil is known as to contain a high level of saturated fatty acid, which was thought to adversely affect serum lipid profiles. However, recent studies have shown no influence or benefits of palm oil on serum lipids. The potential nutritional value of palm oil is attributed to the high mono-unsaturation at the crucial sn2-position of the oil's triacylglycerols, as with the so-called 'healthy' olive oil (OO). The aim of this study was to further test this hypothesis and evaluate the effects of consuming palm olein versus olive oil on serum lipid profiles in a Chinese population. METHODS AND STUDY DESIGN: In total, 120 participants were recruited from a spinnery in Yixing city and randomly divided into two groups (palm olein or olive oil) to conduct a 2×2 crossover trial for 2 months' intervention with 2-week washout periods. Each participant was provided 48 g of test oil per day. At the end of each period, anthropometry, and blood lipid indices were measured to determine the effects of palm olein and olive oil. RESULTS: Palm olein and olive oil consumption had no significantly different effect on BMI, on serum total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, triacylglycerol (TG), Apo B, fasting glucose, or insulin concentrations (all p>0.05). CONCLUSIONS: In a dietary crossover trial, palm olein and olive oil had no recognisably different effects on body fatness or blood lipids in a healthy Chinese population.
