OBJECTIVES: The pandemic has exacerbated pre-existing health and socioeconomic inequalities around the globe. In order to mitigate the effects of extreme isolation and containment measures, governments have taken steps to protect the health, the economy, employment, and socially vulnerable groups. The health crisis should be treated as a pretext in order to ensure universal access to health and socioeconomics.The aim of this review was the presentation of the way the pandemic contributed to the worldwide deterioration of health inequities affecting in parallel the social protection in the health, economic and educational sector along with other factors, the effects and the measures taken, in order to face the consequences of a pandemic on the social protection in Greece in comparison with other countries of Europe. METHODS: A cross-sectional bibliographic study was undertaken using keywords and phrases such as "COVID-19," "Health inequities," "Social protection," and "Social identifiers." The search was done through the search engines google scholar, PubMed, Health link, and Elsevier using either the Greek or English language. The total number of evaluated read-used articles was 30. Inclusion criteria were free full-text meta-analyses, reviews, and systematic reviews. RESULTS: The socially disadvantaged groups in the United States were found to have a lower life expectancy and higher morbidity rates than privileged social groups, as economic, health, and sociocultural precariousness are major causes of death. Patients with underlying diseases are vulnerable groups and increase the risk of coronavirus infection and quite often lead to loss of life due to complications of the disease. Greece is ranked in the 4th worst position with 61.10% in employment in all European Union (EU) countries. There is a significant increase in deaths with a percentage change from 2018 to date of 17.50%. It also holds the 3rd worst position among EU countries in the field of unemployment, while women hold the 2nd worst with a rate of 13.50%. Overworked and overindebted households due to extreme measures due to the pandemic (reduction of working time, quarantine) led to unemployment, loss of income, poverty, widening social inequalities, and deteriorating care for people with disabilities. Children due to the closure of schools and the loss of school meals are led to food insecurity. The pandemic also left many children orphaned after the death of their parents by COVID-19, with psychosocial problems exacerbated by school closures. CONCLUSIONS: The pandemic has exacerbated long-standing health and socioeconomic inequalities, stressing to governments the need to adopt political strategies that will help address them. Measures have been taken in Greece for labor protection, and unemployment benefits, such as the two-month extension of the subsidy period for the unemployed and the long-term unemployed. Minimum insurance days have also been reduced so that citizens employed in tourism, catering, and other seasonal occupations can receive unemployment benefits.

Phenanthrene (PHE) is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon categorized as a high priority organic pollutant being toxic for the ecosystem and human health, and its sorption on natural organic or inorganic substances seems a well-promising method for its removal from water streams. The goals of the present work are (i) to assess the capacity of low-cost adsorbents fabricated by treating coffee wastes and diatomaceous earth to remove PHE from water; (ii) to elucidate the role of the pore structure on PHE sorption dynamics; and (iii) to assess the potential to regenerate adsorbents loaded with PHE, by using the novel technology of cold atmospheric plasma (CAP). Diatomaceous earth (DE) and DE pre-treated with sodium hydroxide (NaOH) or phosphoric acid (H3PO4) were chosen as inorganic adsorbents. Coffee waste (CW) and activated carbons (AC) produced from its pyrolysis at 800 °C (CWAC), either untreated (CWAC-800) or pre-treated with NaOH (CWAC-NaOH-800) and H3PO4 (CWAC-H3PO4-800), were chosen as organic adsorbents. The adsorbents were characterized with nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms, attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and mercury intrusion porosimetry. Based on the PHE sorption capacity and pore structure/surface characteristics, the CWAC-NaOH-800 was chosen as the most efficient adsorbent for further equilibrium and kinetic sorption studies. The multi-compartment model was used to describe the PHE sorption dynamics in CWAC-NaOH-800 by accounting for the pore/surface diffusion and instantaneous sorption. The CWAC-NaOH-800 exhibited remarkable values for (i) the specific surface area (SBET = 676.5 m2/g) and meso- and micro-pore volume determined by nitrogen sorption (VLN2 = 0.415 cm3/g); (ii) the macro- and meso-pore volume determined by mercury intrusion porosimetry (VMIP = 3.134 cm3/g); and (iii) the maximum PHE sorption capacity (qmax = 142 mg/g). The percentage of adsorbent recovery after its regeneration with CAP was found to be ~ 35%. From the simulation of sorption dynamics, it was found that at early times, the sorption kinetics is governed by the film diffusion towards the external surface of grains, but at late times, most of the adsorbed mass is transferred primarily to meso-/macro-pores via diffusion, and secondarily to micro-porosity via surface diffusion. Based on the adsorbent characteristics, effect of pH on sorption efficiency, and numerical analysis of sorption dynamics, it was concluded that probably the dominant adsorption mechanism is the π-π interactions between hydrophobic PHE aromatic rings and CWAC-NaOH-800 graphene layers. The high PHE removal efficiency of CWAC-NaOH-800, the successful interpretation of sorption dynamics with the multi-compartment model, and the potential to regenerate PHE-loaded adsorbents with the green and economic technology of CAP motivate a strategy for testing CWACs towards the adsorption of other PAHs, application of adsorbents to real wastewaters, and scaling-up to pilot units.

The development of novel agents to combat COVID-19 is of high importance. SARS-CoV-2 main protease (Mpro) is a highly attractive target for the development of novel antivirals and a variety of inhibitors have already been developed. Accumulating evidence on the pathobiology of COVID-19 has shown that lipids and lipid metabolizing enzymes are critically involved in the severity of the infection. The purpose of the present study was to identify an inhibitor able to simultaneously inhibit both SARS-CoV-2 Mpro and phospholipase A2 (PLA2), an enzyme which plays a significant role in inflammatory diseases. Evaluating several PLA2 inhibitors, we demonstrate that the previously known potent inhibitor of Group IIA secretory PLA2, GK241, may also weakly inhibit SARS-CoV-2 Mpro. Molecular mechanics docking and molecular dynamics calculations shed light on the interactions between GK241 and SARS-CoV-2 Mpro. 2-Oxoamide GK241 may represent a lead molecular structure for the development of dual PLA2 and SARS-CoV-2 Mpro inhibitors.

The quest for novel agents to regulate the generation of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) is of high importance because this eicosanoid is a key player in inflammatory diseases. We synthesized a series of N-acylated and N-alkylated 2-aminobenzothiazoles and related heterocycles (benzoxazoles and benzimidazoles) and evaluated their ability to suppress the cytokine-stimulated generation of PGE2 in rat mesangial cells. 2-Aminobenzothiazoles, either acylated by the 3-(naphthalen-2-yl)propanoyl moiety (GK510) or N-alkylated by a chain carrying a naphthalene (GK543) or a phenyl moiety (GK562) at a distance of three carbon atoms, stand out in inhibiting PGE2 generation, with EC50 values ranging from 118 nM to 177 nM. Both GK510 and GK543 exhibit in vivo anti-inflammatory activity greater than that of indomethacin. Thus, N-acylated or N-alkylated 2-aminobenzothiazoles are novel leads for the regulation of PGE2 formation.

AIMS: To examine the associations between nurse work environment with nurses' silence about patient safety and the mediating effects of professional discrimination experienced by nurses. DESIGN: Multicentre cross-sectional study. METHODS: Between January and April 2019, 607 nurses and nursing assistants from seven hospitals in Greece assessed their clinical environment using the 'Practice Environment Scale of the Nursing Work Index Revised-PES-NWIR', and the silence about patient safety. The 'Experiences of Discrimination Index' was adapted to specifically address experienced discrimination based on the nursing profession. The PROCESS macros for SPSS were used to examine the above associations. FINDINGS: Better nurse practice environment, with the exception of 'staffing and resource adequacy' dimension, was directly associated with less experienced professional discrimination, and directly and indirectly associated with less silence about patient safety, through the mediating role of professional discrimination experienced by nurses. CONCLUSIONS: Silence about patient safety is dependent on the clinical work environment and may be a response of nurses to discrimination in the work context. Both an improvement in the nurse work environment and a decrease in professional discrimination would minimize silence about patient safety. IMPACT: On many occasions, nurses are directly or indirectly discouraged from voicing their concerns about patient safety or are ignored when they do, leading to employee silence and decreasing the standard of care (Alingh et al., BMJ Quality & Safety, 2019, 28, 39; Pope, Journal of Change Management, 2019, 19, 45). Nurses' work-related determinants for silence are not clearly understood in the patient safety context. A favourably evaluated nurse practice environment is associated with less experienced professional discrimination and less silence about patient safety. To minimize silence about patient safety, both the nurse work environment and the experienced professional discrimination should be taken into consideration by nurse and healthcare managers.

Hydroxamic acid derivatives constitute an interesting novel class of antitumor agents. Three of them, including vorinostat, are approved drugs for the treatment of malignancies, while several others are currently under clinical trials. In this work, we present new vorinostat analogs containing the benzoxazole ring as the cap group and various linkers. The benzoxazole-based analogs were synthesized starting either from 2-aminobenzoxazole, through conventional coupling, or from benzoxazole, through a metal-free oxidative amination. All the synthesized compounds were evaluated for their antiproliferative activity on three diverse human cancer cell lines (A549, Caco-2 and SF268), in comparison to vorinostat. Compound 12 (GK601), carrying a benzoxazole ring replacement for the phenyl ring of vorinostat, was the most potent inhibitor of the growth of three cell lines (IC50 1.2-2.1 µΜ), similar in potency to vorinostat. Compound 12 also inhibited human HDAC1, HDAC2 and HDAC6 like vorinostat. This new analog also showed antiproliferative activity against two colon cancer cell lines genetically resembling pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP), namely HCT116 GNAS R201C/+ and LS174T (IC50 0.6 and 1.4 µΜ, respectively) with potency comparable to vorinostat (IC50 1.1 and 2.1 µΜ, respectively).

Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) is a key mediator of inflammation, and consequently huge efforts have been devoted to the development of novel agents able to regulate its formation. In this work, we present the synthesis of various α-ketoheterocycles and a study of their ability to inhibit the formation of PGE2 at a cellular level. A series of α-ketobenzothiazoles, α-ketobenzoxazoles, α-ketobenzimidazoles, and α-keto-1,2,4-oxadiazoles were synthesized and chemically characterized. Evaluation of their ability to suppress the generation of PGE2 in interleukin-1ß plus forskolin-stimulated mesangial cells led to the identification of one α-ketobenzothiazole (GK181) and one α-ketobenzoxazole (GK491), which are able to suppress the PGE2 generation at a nanomolar level.

In spite of the progress achieved on the photo-catalytic treatment of water streams, there is still a gap of knowledge on the optimization of the performance of continuous-flow photo-reactors. Zinc-oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles were immobilized on Duranit (80% silica + 20% alumina) inert balls with dip-coating and thermal annealing. The immobilized ZnO nanoparticles were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD), ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy. To assess the stability and photocatalytic capacity of immobilized ZnO, degradation tests of phenol were performed in batch mode in a 22 W UV-oven with an emission peak at 375 nm by varying the temperature, the initial phenol concentration, and the ratio of photocatalyst mass to initial phenol mass. Continuous flow tests were conducted on two types of annular photo-reactors, made of poly(methyl)methacrylate (PMMA) and stainless steel (STST), equipped with a 6 W UV-lamp with emission at 375 nm, packed with ZnO-coated Duranit beads. Experiments were conducted by recirculating the phenol solution between the annular space of reactor and an external tank and varying the flow rate and the liquid volume in the tank. A one-dimensional dynamic mathematical model was developed by combining reactive with mass-transfer processes and used to estimate the overall reaction kinetic constant with inverse modeling. The results revealed that the ZnO losses might be discernible in batch mode due to the intense stirring caused by the bubbles of injected air, while an insignificant loss of ZnO mass occurs under continuous flow conditions, even after several cycles of reuse; the order of the overall phenol photodegradation reaction is lower than unity; the pseudo-1st order kinetic constant scales positively with the ratio of photocatalyst mass to the initial phenol mass and Peclet number.

Photochemistry, the use of light to promote organic transformations, has been known for more than a century but only recently has revolutionized the way modern chemists are thinking. Except from transition metal-based complexes, small organic molecules have been introduced as catalysts or initiators. In this review, we summarize the potential that (aromatic or aliphatic) aldehydes have as photoinitiators. The photophysical properties and photoreactivity of benzaldehyde are initially provided, followed by applications of aldehydes as initiators for polymerization reactions. Finally, the applications to date regarding aldehydes as photoinitiators in organic synthesis are presented.

INTRODUCTION: The course of psoriasis relies on a variety of metabolic and immunological parameters. Identification of underlying pro-inflammatory conditions and their control is desired for optimal management. BACKGROUND: Increased prevalence of serum markers for celiac disease has been reported among patients with psoriasis. The likelihood of occult celiac disease in a subpopulation of patients has been postulated and gluten-free diets have been reported to be effective. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The prevalence of gliadin IgA antibodies was assessed among patients with psoriasis in an urban population. The clinical effects of a strict gluten-free diet were followed. RESULTS: Over a 2-year period, 97 patients with Psoriasis Area and Severity Index greater than 2.4 were recruited from a population followed in a dermatology clinic. Gliadin IgA antibodies were assessed in all participants and in 91 controls. Elevated gliadin IgA antibodies were found in 13 patients (14%) and two controls (2%). Values in five patients were assessed as greater than 30.0 U/mL or "strong positive" according to the manufacturer of the assay. All 13 patients were placed on a strict gluten-free diet without any other modifications in their ongoing treatment of psoriasis. Improvement of psoriatic lesions was observed in all patients with positive gliadin IgA antibodies but the decline in the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index score and the scaling down of pharmaceutical treatment was more pronounced in the five patients with strong positive gliadin IgA indicating an immune aberration amenable to diet changes. CONCLUSION: Prevalence of antigliadin IgA antibody is significant among patients with psoriasis not diagnosed with celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity. For all its limitations, antigliadin IgA testing can identify patients likely to benefit from gluten-free diets.

The synthesis of the adamantane phenylalkylamines 2a-d, 3a-c, and 4a-e is described. These compounds exhibited significant antiproliferative activity, in vitro, against eight cancer cell lines tested. The σ(1), σ(2), and sodium channel binding affinities of compounds 2a, 3a, 4a, and 4c-e were investigated. The most interesting analogue, 4a, exhibited significant in vivo anticancer profile on pancreas, prostate, leukemia, and ovarian cancer cell line xenografts together with apoptosis and caspase-3 activation. Inhibition of the cancer cells cycle at the sub-G1 level was also obtained with 4a. Finally, encouraging results were observed with 4a in vivo on mice, suggesting putative antimetastatic and analgesic activities of this compound.

The synthesis of N-{4-[a-(1-adamantyl)benzyl]phenyl}piperazines 2a-e is described. The in vitro antiproliferative activity of most compounds against main cancer cell lines is significant. The σ(1), σ(2)-receptors and sodium channels binding affinity of compounds 2 were investigated. One of the most active analogs, 2a, had an interesting in vivo anticancer profile against the BxPC-3 and Mia-Paca-2 pancreas cancer cell lines with caspase-3 activation, which was associated with an anagelsic activity against the neuropathic pain.

The synthesis of 4-(1-adamantyl)-4,4-diarylbutylamines 1, 5-(1-adamantyl)-5,5-diarylpentylamines 2 and 6-(1-adamantyl)-6,6-diarylhexylamines 3 is described and the σ1, σ2-receptors and sodium channels binding affinity of compounds 1 were investigated. The in vitro activity of compounds 1, 2 and 3 against main cancer cell lines is significant. One of the most active analogs, 1a, had an interesting in vivo anticancer profile against the ovarian cancer cell line IGROV-1, which was associated with an anagelsic activity against the neuropathic pain induced by the main anticancer drugs.

The risk assessment of groundwater pollution by pesticides may be based on pesticide sorption and biodegradation kinetic parameters estimated with inverse modeling of datasets from either batch or continuous flow soil column experiments. In the present work, a chemical non-equilibrium and non-linear 2-site sorption model is incorporated into solute transport models to invert the datasets of batch and soil column experiments, and estimate the kinetic sorption parameters for two pesticides: N-phosphonomethyl glycine (glyphosate) and 2,4-dichlorophenoxy-acetic acid (2,4-D). When coupling the 2-site sorption model with the 2-region transport model, except of the kinetic sorption parameters, the soil column datasets enable us to estimate the mass-transfer coefficients associated with solute diffusion between mobile and immobile regions. In order to improve the reliability of models and kinetic parameter values, a stepwise strategy that combines batch and continuous flow tests with adequate true-to-the mechanism analytical of numerical models, and decouples the kinetics of purely reactive steps of sorption from physical mass-transfer processes is required.

BACKGROUND: Cow's milk (CM) allergy affects about 2% of infants. The allergenicity of dietary proteins, including those from CM, has been related to their digestibility although the generality of the link and its causality remains to be demonstrated. In this study we use an in vitro digestion system, to investigate the digestibility of ß-lactoglobulin (blg) during gastrointestinal transit and to assess the impact of this process on blg allergenic reactivity in CM allergic children. METHODS: Blg digesta were prepared using an in vitro digestion protocol simulating either gastric digestion alone or followed by duodenal digestion with or without phosphatidylcholine (PC). Biochemical analysis of blg digesta was performed by SDS-PAGE and their concentration was measured by a sandwich ELISA. Assessment of their allergenic reactivity was done in vitro by EAST inhibition, specific basophil activation (basotest) and lymphocyte proliferation (PCNA-flow cytometry) assays using sera and cells from patients allergic to blg and in vivo by skin prick testing (SPT) of these patients. RESULTS: Blg was only broken down to smaller peptides after gastro-duodenal digestion although a sizeable amount of intact protein still remained. Digestion did not modify the IgE binding capacity of blg except for gastro-duodenal digestion performed in the absence of PC. These results are consistent with the quantity of intact blg remaining in the digesta. Overall both gastric and gastroduodenal digestion enhanced activation of sensitized basophils and proliferation of sensitized lymphocytes by blg. However, there was a tendency towards reduction in mean diameter of SPT following digestion, the PC alone during phase 1 digestion causing a significant increase in mean diameter. CONCLUSIONS: Digestion did not reduce the allergenic reactivity of blg to a clinically insignificant extent, PC inhibiting digestion and thereby protecting blg allergenic reactivity. SPT reactivity was reduced compared to blg immunoreactivity in in vitro tests.

Soil column experiments are used to investigate the fate of three pesticides of high, intermediate, and low solubility in groundwater: N- phosphonomethyl glycine (glyphosate); O,O-diethyl-S-[(ethylthio)methyl]phosphorodithioate (phorate); (2,4-dichlorophenoxy)acetic acid (2,4-D). Feed solutions are prepared by adding each pesticide (100 mg/L glyphosate, 50 micro g/L phorate, 50 mg/L 2,4-D) along with conservative tracer, KBr, in synthetic groundwater. The concentration of the pesticides in effluents is detected by ion chromatography (glyphosate, 2,4-D) and GC-FID (phorate). The Br(-) breakthrough curves are employed to estimate the dispersion coefficient and mean pore velocity in each column. Solute transport and reactive models accounting for equilibrium/non-equilibrium sorption and biodegradation are coupled with inverse modeling numerical codes to estimate the kinetic parameters for all pesticides.

Rheological characteristics of liposome-containing-hydrogels were studied. Sonicated unilamellar vesicles (SUV), prepared by probe sonication and multilamellar vesicles (MLV) prepared by thin film hydration were loaded in a hydrogel containing carbopol 974 NF and hydroxyethylcellulose (Natrosol 250 HX). Phosphatidylcholine (PC) or hydrogenated-PC (HPC) liposomes, plain or mixed with cholesterol (chol) were used. Static (steady-stress sweep-tests) and dynamic (frequency sweep-tests) rheological measurements were carried out. All gels had a shear thinning behaviour (fitted well by Cross model). Zero-rate shear viscosity and power law index values, revealed that PC liposome addition in the hydrogel had minimum effect on its rheological properties even at the highest lipid concentration used (20 mg/ml). Oppositely, HPC (or HPC/chol) liposome addition resulted in significant modulations of the same rheological characteristics (which increased with increasing lipid concentration). HPC liposomes also caused a significant increase in gel relaxation time, which indicates that the elastic character of the gel strengthens as HPC liposome concentration increases. Concluding, liposome composition (membrane rigidity) and lipid concentration, but not liposome size, seem to be very important factors that determine the rheological modulations caused by liposome addition in gels.

Derangement of cellular immunity is central in the pathophysiology of adult autoimmune/idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). Herein we investigated cytokine gene expression in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of adult chronic ITP patients and attempted to correlate cytokine polarization with the degree of thrombocytopenia. We used semiquantitative reverse-transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) to measure the expression of type-1 (interleukin-2 [IL-2], interferon gamma [IFN-gamma]) and type-2 (IL-4, IL-5, IL-10, IL-3, IL-13) cytokines by PBMCs from 21 patients and 11 controls. Plasma transforming growth factor beta1 (TGF-beta1) levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA). T helper 1 (Th1)/Th2 ([IL-2 + IFN-gamma]/[IL-4 + IL-5]) cytokine mRNA ratios, thought to reflect the Th deviation of the pathogenic disease-specific T cells, and type-1/type-2 mRNA ratios, thought to reflect the overall immune response polarization, were significantly increased in ITP patients. The Th1/Th2 ratio was inversely correlated with platelet counts. TGF-beta1 levels appeared suppressed in patients with active disease, though not significantly. Our findings show a clear type-1 cytokine polarization of the autoimmune response in adult ITP that persists irrespective of disease status.

SUMMARY: Despite the fact that a role for thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) in seizure modulation has been consistently hypothesized, the exact nature of this role remains unclear. In this study, we investigated the effects of TRH administration on seizure threshold and seizure duration in 13 depressed inpatients undergoing electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). In a balanced order crossover design, an intravenous bolus of 0.4 mg TRH or placebo was administered immediately before anesthesia, during the first two sessions, in a series of bilateral ECT. In both of these sessions, a threshold titration procedure was applied by using gradual increments of the electrical charge delivered until seizure elicitation, a procedure that has been safely used in the past. Seizure threshold was defined as the lowest energy level required for induction of a grand mal seizure, by use of this titration procedure. Seizure duration was estimated both by simultaneous EEG recording and by the cuff method. Results showed that neither seizure threshold, nor seizure duration (either by cuff or by EEG) differed between the TRH and the placebo conditions, regardless of the order in which TRH or placebo were administered in the two ECT sessions. This was the case regardless of whether the patients had at baseline a blunted TSH response to TRH or not. Our findings do not support a role for TRH on seizure modulation, at least when TRH is administered exogenously. Such an effect, if it exists, could be obscured, however, by several factors, including pharmacokinetics.

Childhood idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) resolves usually after the first episode, although it may recur, and in 10% to 20% of patients develops into a chronic disorder. Evidence of the immunoregulatory role of Th1/Th2 responses in autoimmune diseases prompted us to perform a prospective study of Th1/Th2 gene expression profiles and transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta) plasma levels in 18 children (median age, 6.4 years) with acute ITP, before and after intravenous immunoglobulin G (IVIg) infusion, and during a follow-up period (0.5-5 years). Initially, 12 of 18 patients had either low Th0/Th1 plus interleukin 10 (IL-10) or no in vivo cytokine gene expression (0). At 24 hours after IVIg infusion this pattern became 0 or Th2 (9 of 12) or remained low Th0/Th1 (3 of 12). During follow-up these patients did not relapse and maintained 0 or Th2 pattern without IL-10. Of the remaining 6 patients, 4 presented with a Th1 or Th0/Th1 pattern plus IL-10 that persisted after IVIg treatment (although interferon gamma [IFN-gamma] expression diminished) and stabilized to Th1 plus IL-10 at follow-up, which was marked by infrequent episodes of ITP. Two patients presenting with a strict Th1 pattern characterized by high expression of IFN-gamma, which remained unchanged after IVIg and at follow-up, can be characterized as chronic ITP. TGF-beta plasma levels were low in patients with active disease and increased in remission. Overall, acute ITP presents with Th1, Th0/Th1, or 0 in vivo cytokine gene expression. Stable remission is associated with a 0 or Th2 pattern. A 0 or Th2 pattern after IVIg gave the best prognosis, whereas sustained high expression of IFN-gamma and refractoriness to IVIg were the main indicators of poor prognosis.
