Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic, there were reductions in university students' physical activity, which further increased their mental distress, calling for technology-based physical activity interventions to address the challenges in delivering in-person interventions. This study aimed to develop a technology-based physical activity intervention and pilot test it. Methods: We developed a virtually-delivered team-based physical activity challenge using the Behavior Change Wheel and Co-creation Framework based on Self-determination Theory. A pilot study was conducted in the evaluation phase to measure the recruitment rate, dropout rate, change in physical activity, and mental distress while identifying problems and collecting participants' opinions regarding the challenge. Wilcoxon signed-rank tests were conducted to assess the change in physical activity and mental distress. Qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis. Results: A three-week physical activity challenge comprising five identified intervention functions was held with 480 participants. The recruitment rate was 84.8% resulting from 407 virtual challenge participants who were conveniently joined as research participants. The dropout rate for the pilot study was 10.96% resulting from the incompatibility problems with the application. Among sample participants who lacked physical activity, participation in this challenge improved their physical activity by 52.5 min of moderate-intensity physical activity per week and reduced their mental distress by three points of self-reporting questionnaire-20 score. Issues regarding the virtual application and the influence of participation in the challenge on basic psychological needs emerged. Participants' opinions identified lack of time as the main barrier to physical activity. Conclusion: A co-created physical activity intervention developed using the Behavioral Change Wheel Framework inspired high interest from university students and may increase their physical activity and improve their mental health. Several suggestions were discussed to address the identified problems and improve the internal and external validity of the evaluation phase. Objectives: This study aimed to explore students' perspectives on the attributes of medical teachers as role models to students' professional behaviour in the educational process. Methods: A phenomenological study was conducted to obtain participants' perceptions concerning the professional attributes of medical teachers. The participants were 21 final-year medical students in the School of Medicine, Universitas Gadjah Mada, who had completed and passed the national examination. The participants were recruited purposively to represent genders and performance (i.e., high-performing and average-performing students). The participants were divided into two focus groups based on their performance, each facilitated by non-teaching faculty members to avoid bias. Thematic analysis was conducted to analyze focus group transcripts by two independent coders. Codes were synthesized into themes related to the study aims. Results: Seven themes were identified related to observed role model attributes, for instance, passionate lecturers, caring and empathetic, supportive and involving, objectivity, incompetence and compromising, poor communication and conflict, and time management. Subsequently, five themes were identified in participants' responses towards the observed role model, for instance, exemplary models, respect and motivating, confusion and inconvenience, avoiding and hate, and value collision and harmonization. Conclusions: This study revealed a range of role model attributes and responded positively and negatively during learning encounters. As negative attributes are also prominent and observed by students, there is a need for medical schools to perform faculty development for the professional enhancement of medical teachers. Further study should be conducted to investigate the impact of role modelling on learning achievement and future medical practice.

Purpose: The pandemic of COVID-19 had reinforced adaptations in medical education. It was challenging, especially for developing countries where resources were scarce. This study examined the implementation of teaching and learning adaptation during the pandemic in a low-resource country as perceived by teachers. We also present the opportunities that arise from the adaptation process. Participants and Methods: The participants of this study (n=24) were teachers in an undergraduate medical program. This study employed a qualitative approach using focus group discussions (FGDs) to collect the teachers' perceptions. Thematic analysis was performed to analyse the data. Results: Teachers' perceptions were categorized into 19 subthemes and were accentuated into four general themes; learning facilitation, assessment during the pandemic, learning resources, and competence achievement. We discovered both challenges as well as opportunities in each theme due to the shifting of learning from offline to online learning. Flexibility and innovation were regarded as the most important opportunities and were perceived to hold potential for medical education in the future. Knowledge acquisition was most benefited from this adaptation. Facilitating skill acquisition and burnout were the major challenges. Conclusion: Despite the challenges, including burnout, skills acquisition, and risk in academic integrity, innovations in medical education were strengthened during the pandemic of COVID-19. They also provided a positive influence regarding achievement in the cognitive aspect. Faculty development programs need to be encouraged to improve teachers' capacity in the future.

BACKGROUND: Indonesia has applied a national competency exit-examination for medical graduates since 2014, called The Indonesia Medical Doctor National Competency Examination (IMDNCE). This examination is administered to ensure the competence of medical graduates from at present 83 medical schools in Indonesia. Although many studies reported their evaluation on medical licensing examinations, there are not many studies performed to evaluate the correlation of a national licensing examination to the graduates' clinical practice. AIMS: This research aimed to evaluate the performance of new medical doctors in Indonesia in their internship period after the IMDNCE completion, and whether it might become a predictive indicator for the new medical doctors' clinical performance. METHODS: An observational cross-sectional study was performed in November-December 2017 on 209 doctors who were new medical graduates. Thirty-one senior doctors from a range of regions in Indonesia who were recruited and trained previously participated in the observation. The Clinical Performance Instrument (CPI) tool was developed as an evaluation tool of the new doctors' clinical competence to be observed for three weeks. The obtained data were analysed using descriptive statistics and correlated to the IMDNCE scores. RESULTS: The mean (95% CI) of the CPI for all participants was 83.0 (80.8-85.2), with no correlation of CPI score with IMDNCE results in domains of communication, professionalism and patient safety (p > 0.05). However, the mean total of the CPI observation scores from doctors who graduated from public medical schools was higher than those graduating from private medical schools. Also, there were differences in scores related to the institution's accreditation grade (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: There is no difference between CPI and national competency examination results. There was no statistical correlation between the clinical performance of new medical doctors during their internship to CBT and OSCE scores in the national competency examination. New doctors' performance during internship is affected by more complex factors, not only their level of competencies.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to assess the stigma associated with coronavirus disease - 2019 (COVID-19) among health care workers (HCWs) in Indonesia during the early phase of the pandemic. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 12 hospitals across the country in March, 2020. A logistic regression was employed to assess the association between stigma and explanatory variables. RESULTS: In total, 288 HCWs were surveyed, of which 93.4% had never experienced any outbreaks. Approximately 21.9% of the respondents had stigma associated with COVID-19. HCWs who were doctors, had not participated in trainings related to COVID-19, worked in the capital of the province, worked at private hospitals, or worked at a hospital with COVID-19 triage protocols were likely to have no stigma associated with COVID-19. CONCLUSIONS: The stigma associated with COVID-19 is relatively high among HCWs in the early phase of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. Adequate dissemination of knowledge and adequate protection are necessary to reduce stigma among HCWs.

Background: High maternal-neonatal mortality rate in the East Nusa Tenggara Timur Province, Indonesia, has raised a concern about improving quality health care and prevention. A task force team consisting of the district health office and the corresponding hospital implemented an interprofessional peer mentoring for improving maternal-neonatal health initiative involving various health professionals and community members. This study assesses the effectiveness of the interprofessional peer-mentoring program in improving health-care workers' capacity and community members' awareness of maternal-neonatal health in the primary care setting. Methods: A mixed-methods action research was conducted to measure the effectiveness of the peer-mentoring program. The task force appointed 15 personnel to be trained as peer mentors for 60 mentees from various professions. Peer mentors' perceptions of knowledge and skills improvement were measured before and after the training program. A reflective logbook was then developed to document mentoring activities. Surveys and logbook observations were performed to measure the effectiveness of the 8-month peer-mentoring program. Mentees' capacity and perception were measured before and after the mentoring program. Quantitative data were analyzed using the descriptive statistics and Wilcoxon's paired-rank test, whereas open-ended responses and log-book reflection were analyzed using the content analysis. Results: The peer-mentor training program improved peer mentors' knowledge and readiness from 3.64/5.00 to 4.23/5.00 (P < 0.001). Moreover, mentees viewed the program as effective in improving self-confidence and working capacity in maternal-neonatal health services from 3.47/5.00 to 3.98/5.00 (P < 0.001). Open-ended responses and a reflective logbook revealed that both mentees and peer mentors gained positive learning experiences. Seniority might become an obstacle to the mentoring process since peer mentors reported barriers in engaging elderly mentees due to seniority issues. Discussion: The interprofessional peer-mentoring program was effective in improving both mentors' and mentees' knowledge, self-confidence, and working capacity in maternal-neonatal primary health services and experiential learning. Further observation of the long-term outcomes of the program should be undertaken.
