Patterns of ulcer-hemorrhagic impairments were distinctly decreased in gastric mucose of rats with emotional-painful stress after Cu, Zn-superoxide dismutase administration at a dose of 0.5 mg/kg every 30 min of the experiment. The protective effect of the enzyme was realized via regulation of free radical reactions as well as by means of maintaining of structure-functional activity of lipoprotein complexes in gastric mucose.

Methods of planned clinical experiments on dietotherapy, adapted for the study of food additives in the absence of an adequate placebo, were improved due to the modification of the mathematical analysis. The schedule of the experiment involves exclusion of nonuniformity, reduction of the number of necessary studies and high accuracy of the final results. For the statistical analysis of the data obtained in the experiment a program has been proposed for the microcomputer.

The experiments on 45 inbred male and female rats with alloxan diabetes have shown that microcrystalline cellulose at a dose of 3 g/day received per os beginning from day 15 to day 42 after alloxan administration stabilizes the animals' body mass, reduces the level of glycemia and glycosylated hemoglobin. A parallel reduction of triglyceride and total cholesterol levels and increase in plasma phospholipid content, compared to the control, are observed, as well as a considerable hypocoagulation shift in the blood aggregation system.

Intragastric administration of the antioxidant ionol (50 mg/kg/a day) for 7 days did not prevent the formation of ulcers or massive hemorrhages to the gastric mucosa in immobilized animals, increased the number of petechiae and lowered that of erosions. In this case the parietal pH increased in the stomach and dropped in the remaining divisions of the alimentary tract. The combined action of stress and ionol brought about marked hypocoagulation. Ionol exerted a protective action on the stress-induced activation of lipid peroxidation in the stomach but did not produce any such effect on the liver.

[Effect of the synthetic antioxidants ionol and dibunol on hemorrhagic ulcerative lesions of the stomach in rats]. / Vliianie sinteticheskikh antioksidantov ionola i dibunola na gemorragicheski-iazvennye porazheniia zheludka u krys.

Comparative studies made on 79 male rats indicate that the synthetic antioxidants ionol and dibunol liniment administered intragastrically in a dose of 50 mg/kg for 7 days do not exert any protective effect on gastric mucosa lesions caused by ligation of the pylorus by Shay's method. At the same time the antioxidants had an inhibitory effect on activation of lipid peroxidation in gastric tissues of rats operated on according to Shay. The absence of the protective action of the antioxidants on ulcer formation together with an inhibitory effect on activation of lipid peroxidation in gastric tissues provide no evidence in favor of the leading role of lipid peroxidation during gastric lesion in animals with ligated pylorus.

Levels of certain metabolites of peroxidation of lipids such as diene conjugates malonic dialdehyde, ascorbic acid, dehydroascorbic acid and diketogulonic acid were compared in 39 cases of gastric ulcer, 25 patients with gastric cancer and 14 healthy subjects. Diene conjugates and malonic dialdehyde levels appeared to be increased in cases of gastric ulcer and cancer. This was matched by a decrease in ascorbic acid and dehydroascorbic acid levels. Ulcer patients revealed enhanced diketogulonic acid concentration.
