RESUMO
Principal scientific achievement of the department of vessels surgery staff were presented. They were devoted to fundamental problems of the vessels surgery. Introduction of mentioned achievements in clinical practice improved considerably the results of abdominal aorta aneurysm surgical treatment, long-term complications of reconstructive operations on the main vessels, occlusion diseases of the venous system, what promoted to reduce the lethality and invalidization of patients.

Complex investigation of 1737 patients with occlusion of abdominal aorta, iliac and femoral arteries was conducted. Ischemia grade of the extremities tissues, absolute and relative indications for the operative treatment were established. In the early postoperative period good result of treatment was noted in 58.7% of patients, fair--in 36.8%, in long-term follow-up (from 6 mos till 10 yrs period of time)--in 48.4% and 42.2% accordingly.

Data on complex examination and surgical treatment of 415 patients with occlusions of abdominal aorta, iliac and femoral arteries are adduced. According to the stage of ischemia of the extremity tissue three groups of patients were determined while making examination-middle degree (II stage of the disease), severe (III stage) and extremely severe (IY stage). Positive immediate results of treatment were obtained in 402 (96.87%) of patients due to the differential approach application in patients examination, taking into account the regional blood flow and microcirculation indexes.

The results of surgical treatment of 26 patients with "multistage" occlusion, who underwent reconstructive operation on two segments (group 1), and 29 patients, who underwent ultrasound disobliteration of the femoral arteries together with the reconstructive operation (group 2), are presented. In group 1, a good immediate result was noted in 80.8%, a good long-term result--in 61.6%, in group 2--79.4 and 70.8% of the patients, respectively.

The peculiarities of repeated reconstructive operations on the abdominal aorta and peripheral arteries in 355 patients are presented. The indications and choice of a method of operation are substantiated. At the immediate postoperative period, a good result was noted in 47% of patients, 13.3% developed thrombosis of allograft, 3.7%-that of autovenous shunt.

The results of treatment of 1229 patients with diseases of the abdominal aorta (AA) have been analysed. Two original methods for prevention of colonic ischemia in performance of a reconstructive operation on AA are suggested.

In 120 patients with post-thrombophlebitic syndrome caused by the impairment of blood flow in the system of the inferior vena cava, the different reconstructive operations were performed. Good immediate results of treatment were noted in 44, satisfactory--in 64, unsatisfactory--in 12 patients. The follow-up of from 6 mos to 3 yrs has shown the good results in 16 patients, satisfactory--in 32. Forty patients returned to previous job, in 8--group II of the invalidity was established.

The long-term keeping of sea urchins of the genus Strongylocentrotus in a sea water with sublethal concentrations of the diesel fuel hydrocarbons (0.04-0.3 mg/l) or cadmium (0.001, 0.05, 0.1 and 1 mg/l) on the progeny development was studied. Sea urchins S. nudus are more resistant against cadmium than S. intermedius. The effects of long-term keeping of S. nudus in a sea water with hydrocarbons and of S. intermedius in a sea water with cadmium on the progeny development proved to be similar. The effects of both the toxicants were most distinct at the gastrula stage: the archenteron formation was delayed. Hydrocarbons exerted more toxic effects by the following criteria: decrease in the size of larvae, asynchrony and delay of development and frequency of defects.

Results of the surgical treatment of 126 patients with obliterating atherosclerosis of the abdominal aorta and peripheral arteries of extremities against the background of diabetes mellitus are described. The immediate results were followed in all the patients. They were good in 52 patients, satisfactory in 61 patients, unsatisfactory in 13 patients. Six patients died (4.5%). Long-term results (from 6 months to 10 years) were followed in 97 patients. They were good in 26.8% of the patients, satisfactory in 55.7% and unsatisfactory in 17.5% of the patients. Lethal outcomes took place in 7 patients (7.2%). 43.3% of the 97 patients returned to their previous work.

An analysis of results of the treatment of 182 patients with atherosclerotic occlusions of femoral, popliteal and tibial bones has shown the necessity of an individual approach to choosing the method of restorative operation on the vessels. More favourable remote results were obtained after autovenous shunting "in situ" and by the method of vein reversion.

The authors show that in the Ukrainian SSR, the viral diseases of the nervous system are associated primarily with influenza, epidemic parotitis, enteroviral infections, and less frequently with parainfluenza, adenoviral infections and their combinations. These nervous diseases manifested themselves as meningeal and meningoencephalic syndromes, serous meningitis, encephalitis, meningoencephalitis, encephalomyelitis, mono- and polyradiculoneuritis. The character of the regression of the morbid manifestations depended on the gravity and the type of the nervous system affections, time of the institution and the completeness of the etiotropic and pathogenetic therapy.
