RESUMO

Nitrogen-doped carbon nanomaterial (NDCNM) was synthesized by grinding a mixture of graphene oxide and melamine in a planetary mill with both balls and milling chamber of zirconium dioxide. In the electron spin resonance spectrum of NDCNM, a broad signal with g = 2.08 was observed in addition to a narrow signal at g = 2.0034. In the study using a vibrating-sample magnetometer, the synthesized material is presumably a ferromagnet with a coercive force of 100 Oe. The specific magnetization at 10,000 Oe is approximately 0.020 and 0.055 emu/g at room temperature and liquid nitrogen temperature, respectively.

RESUMO

A simple method for the mechanochemical synthesis of an effective metal-free electrocatalyst for the oxygen reduction reaction was demonstrated. A nitrogen-doped carbon material was obtained by grinding a mixture of graphene oxide and melamine in a planetary ball mill. The resulting material was characterized by XPS, EPR, and Raman and IR spectroscopy. The nitrogen concentration on the N-bmGO surface was 5.5 at.%. The nitrogen-enriched graphene material (NbmGO has half-wave potential of -0.175/-0.09 V and was shown to possess high activity as an electrocatalyst for oxygen reduction reaction. The electrocatalytic activity of NbmGO can be associated with a high concentration of active sites for the adsorption of oxygen molecules on its surface. The high current retention (93% for 12 h) after continuous polarization demonstrates the excellent long-term stability of NbmGO.

RESUMO

Edema, i.e., fluid accumulation in the interstitial space, accompanies numerous pathological states of the human organism, including heart failure (HF), inflammatory response, and lymphedema. Nevertheless, techniques for quantitative assessment of the edema's severity and dynamics are absent in clinical practice, and the analysis is mainly limited to physical examination. This fact stimulates the development of novel methods for fast and reliable diagnostics of fluid retention in tissues. In this work, we focused on the possibilities of two microscopic techniques, nailfold video capillaroscopy (NVC) and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), in the assessment of the short-term and long-term cutaneous edema. We showed that for the patients with HF, morphological parameters obtained by NVC-namely, the apical diameter of capillaries and the size of the perivascular zone-indicate long-term edema. On the other hand, for healthy volunteers, the application of two models of short-term edema, venous occlusion, and histamine treatment of the skin, did not reveal notable changes in the capillary parameters. However, a significant reduction of the NVC image sharpness was observed in this case, which was suggested to be due to water accumulation in the epidermis. To verify these findings, we made use of CLSM, which provides the skin structure with cellular resolution. It was observed that for the histamine-treated skin, the areas of the dermal papillae become hyporefractive, leading to the loss of contrast and the lower visibility of capillaries. Similar effect was observed for patients undergoing infusion therapy. Collectively, our results reveal the parameters can be used for pericapillary edema assessment using the NVC and CLSM, and paves the way for their application in a clinical set-up.

RESUMO

For metal-based compounds, the ground- and excited-state dipole moments and the difference thereof are, for the first time, obtained both experimentally and theoretically using solvatochromic equations and DFT/B3LYP/QZVP calculations. The approach is suggested to be promising and easily accessible, and can be universal to elucidate the electronic properties of metal-based compounds.

RESUMO

Facile and high-yielding procedures for synthesis of monocarboxylic acid derivatives of triarylmethyl radicals (TAMs) were developed. Reaction of methyl thioglycolate with tris(2,3,5,6-tetrathiaaryl)methyl cation smoothly afforded the monosubstituted TAM derivative, which was hydrolyzed to a monocarboxylic acid, with the TAM moiety attached to thioglycolic acid via the sulfur atom. Alternatively, the diamagnetic tricarboxylic acid precursor of Finland trityl was transformed to a trimethyl ester and partially hydrolyzed under controlled conditions. The diester product was isolated and the remaining fractions were converted back to the trimethyl ester for production of more diester. The first representatives of TAM biradicals with different TAM cores and interspin distances were obtained by reaction of these new TAM monocaboxylic acids with N,N'-dimethylethylenediamine.

RESUMO

Tyrosyl-DNA phosphodiesterase 1 (TDP1) is a promising target for antitumor therapy based on Top1 poison-mediated DNA damage. Several novel benzopentathiepines were synthesized and tested as inhibitors of TDP1 using a new oligonucleotide-based fluorescence assay. The benzopentathiepines have IC50 values in the range of 0.2-6.0 µM. According to the molecular modeling, the conformational flexibility of the dibutylamine group of the most effective inhibitor (3d) allows it to occupy an advantageous position for effective binding compared to its cyclic counterparts. The study of cytotoxicity of these compounds revealed that all compounds cause an apoptotic cell death in MCF-7 and Hep G2 cells. Therefore the new class of very effective inhibitors of TDP1 was elaborated.

RESUMO

C-, N-, P-, and S-nucleophiles reacted with symmetrical tris(2,3,5,6-tetrathiaaryl)methyl cations, generated from the corresponding triarylmethanols by strong acids, to give a variety of asymmetrical monosubstituted persistent triaryl-methyl (TAM) radicals as the major products. The only byproducts were symmetrical TAMs.

RESUMO

Tris(2,3,5,6-tetrathiaaryl)methyl cations, which were generated from the corresponding triarylmethanols in the presence of strong acids, underwent reaction with nucleophiles to give trityl radicals, as the product of a one-electron reduction of the carbocation. Depending on the nature of the nucleophile, the only byproducts were either diamagnetic quinone methides or asymmetrical monosubstituted trityl radicals. Herein, we report a protocol for the large-scale synthesis of the Finland trityl, which has the advantage of high overall yield and reproducibility.

RESUMO

Interaction of acetonitrile with trifluoromethanesulfonic acid has been studied by multinuclear NMR and ESI-MS. It has been found that the interaction results in formation of a great variety of different cations and neutral compounds which is controlled by the ratio of CH(3)CN to TfOH. In the presence of an excess of the acid (molar ratio 1 : 8-14) diprotonated N-acetylacetamidine 1 is formed as the major product, which eventually transforms into protonated acetamidine 3 and acetic acid 4. At molar ratio of (1 : 1-2) diprotonated 2,4-dimethyl-6-methylidene-3H-1,3,5-triazine 12, tautomer of the diprotonated trimethyl-s-triazine 11, becomes the main product at an early stage of the reaction and diprotonated 1-(dimethyl-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)prop-1-en-2-ol 15 at a later stage. In the case of a large excess of acetonitrile (4-20 : 1) trication 17 is formed as a result of the interaction between 11 and 12 along with some oligomers [(CH(3)CN)(3)](n) (n = 4-12).

RESUMO

Analysis of UV filter levels in 48 cataractous human lenses was performed with the use of HPLC. A new chromophore with the absorption maximum at 410nm and molecular mass of 369Da was detected and assigned as deaminated 3-hydroxykynurenine O-beta-D-glucoside (3OHCKAG). Cataractous lenses are characterized by the wide range of the UV filter concentrations and remarkably lower levels of UV filters and glutathione than published for the normal lenses. No correlation between the lens age and the level of UV filters has been found in cataractous lenses.

RESUMO

A bridged d0 zirconocene dichloride is reported as a first group 4 metal complex possessing rare long-lived ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) excited states with high emission yields and excited-state lifetimes in fluid solutions (e.g., PhiLUM = 0.41 and tau = 17.6 micros in 1,2-dichlorobenzene at 20 degrees C). The basic emission parameters PhiLUM and tau are shown to be extremely solvent-dependent in fluids at room temperature. The first principle dependences of LMCT emission parameters on solvent properties are revealed with use of the target complex. For fluid solutions, the linear correlation between PhiLUM and tau is reported, thus suggesting that a solvent determines the rate constant for nonradiative decay, knr.
