RESUMO

Nowadays, one of the challenges we face when carrying out modeling of epidemic spreading is to develop methods to control disease transmission. In this article we study how the spreading of knowledge of a disease affects the propagation of that disease in a population of interacting individuals. For that, we analyze the interaction between two different processes on multiplex networks: the propagation of an epidemic using the susceptible-infected-susceptible dynamics and the dissemination of information about the disease-and its prevention methods-using the unaware-aware-unaware dynamics, so that informed individuals are less likely to be infected. Unlike previous related models where disease and information spread at the same time scale, we introduce here a parameter that controls the relative speed between the propagation of the two processes. We study the behavior of this model using a mean-field approach that gives results in good agreement with Monte Carlo simulations on homogeneous complex networks. We find that increasing the rate of information dissemination reduces the disease prevalence, as one may expect. However, increasing the speed of the information process as compared to that of the epidemic process has the counterintuitive effect of increasing the disease prevalence. This result opens an interesting discussion about the effects of information spreading on disease propagation.

This article has the objective of presenting the controversy interpretative about the compre-hensiveness in the area of professional market sectors graduated in Physical Education, the positioning established by a group of researchers, graduating and institutions from the state of Goiás a political movement played starting from this positioning expanding the analyses of the conjuncture that the CNE presented Protocol of new National Guidelines of Curricular Resolution for graduation in Physical Education. We conducted analyses in the documents that compose the legal planning of this question. We concluded that was consolidated a sce-nario that must be understood as a fundamental determination from the initiative of the Na-tional Education Council in reopening the discussion with the area.

Does literacy improve brain function? Does it also entail losses? Using functional magnetic resonance imaging, we measured brain responses to spoken and written language, visual faces, houses, tools, and checkers in adults of variable literacy (10 were illiterate, 22 became literate as adults, and 31 were literate in childhood). As literacy enhanced the left fusiform activation evoked by writing, it induced a small competition with faces at this location, but also broadly enhanced visual responses in fusiform and occipital cortex, extending to area V1. Literacy also enhanced phonological activation to speech in the planum temporale and afforded a top-down activation of orthography from spoken inputs. Most changes occurred even when literacy was acquired in adulthood, emphasizing that both childhood and adult education can profoundly refine cortical organization.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Restorative materials must be capable not only of restoring the patient's masticatory function, but also to rescue the self-esteem of those maculated by a disharmonious smile. Among the esthetic materials available on the market, the choice frequently lies between ceramic or indirect laboratory resin restorations. AIM: This study assessed the resistance to compression of two laboratory resins found on the market, namely Artglass and Targis, considering Omega 900 ceramic from Vita as control. MATERIALS AND METHODS: With the aid of stainless steel matrices, with internal dimensions of 8.0 mm diameter at the base, 9.0 mm in the top portion and 4.0 mm height, 15 test specimens were made, being 5 of each material to be tested. The test specimens were kept in distilled water for 72 hours and submitted to an axial load by the action of a point with a rounded tip 2 mm in diameter, adapted to an EMIC 500 universal test machine. The compression speed was 0.5 mm/min, with a load cell capacity of 200 Kgf. RESULTS: The means of the results were calculated in kilogram-force (Kgf). The results found were treated by analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the differences found among the groups were identified by the Tukey test (5%). CONCLUSION: It was observed that the material Omega 900 (R) offered significantly greater resistance to compression than the other two materials, which did not present statistically significant difference between them.

RESUMO

Achieving aesthetic satisfaction in anterior teeth rehabilitation is a constant challenge to clinicians. Modern implantology is an invaluable tool to replace missing teeth; however, it requires carefully determined steps in each rehabilitation stage, from implant placement of the implant-supported crown. This article aims at reporting the several resources employed in a clinical case that should always be used in rehabilitation with single implant-supported crowns in the axillaryanterior area.
