This cross-sectional observational study aims to determine isokinetic normality data at different speeds, and isometric data of ankle and knee joints, in healthy basketball players aged 15-16 years old. The participants were recruited through non-probabilistic convenience sampling. Sociodemographic, anthropometric, and biomechanical variables were collected. The study involved 42 participants. Right-leg dominance was higher in women (85.7%) than in men (78.6%). Men had a higher weight, height, and body mass index compared to women. Statistically significant differences were observed between sex and height (p < 0.001). Significant differences were found between sexes in knee flexor and extensor strength at different isokinetic speeds (30°, 120°, and 180°/s), except for the maximum peak strength knee flexion at 180°/s in the right leg. In the ankle, the variables inversion, eversion, and work strength values at different isokinetic speeds and full RoM, by sex, were not significantly different, except for the right (p = 0.004) and the left (p = 0.035) ankle full RoM. The study found lower knee extensor strength in women, indicating the need to improve knee flexor/extensor strength in women to match that of men, as seen in other joints. The results can guide the development of preventive and therapeutic interventions for lower limb injuries in basketball players.

Background: Visual involvement is the most feared complication of giant cell arteritis (GCA). Information on the efficacy of tocilizumab (TCZ) for this complication is scarce and controversial. Objective: We assessed a wide series of GCA treated with TCZ, to evaluate its role in the prevention of new visual complications and its efficacy when this manifestation was already present before the initiation of TCZ. Design: This is an observational multicenter study of patients with GCA treated with TCZ. Methods: Patients were divided into two subgroups according to the presence or absence of visual involvement before TCZ onset. Visual manifestations were classified into the following categories: transient visual loss (TVL), permanent visual loss (PVL), diplopia, and blurred vision. Results: Four hundred seventy-one GCA patients (mean age, 74 ± 9 years) were treated with TCZ. Visual manifestations were observed in 122 cases (26%), of which 81 were present at TCZ onset: PVL (n = 60; unilateral/bilateral: 48/12), TVL (n = 17; unilateral/bilateral: 11/6), diplopia (n = 2), and blurred vision (n = 2). None of the patients without previous visual involvement or with TVL had new episodes after initiation of TCZ, while only 11 out of 60 (18%) patients with PVL experienced some improvement. The two patients with diplopia and one of the two patients with blurred vision improved. Conclusion: TCZ may have a protective effect against the development of visual complications or new episodes of TVL in GCA. However, once PVL was established, only a few patients improved.

Objectives: We aimed to evaluate the drug retention rate and safety of secukinumab (SEC) in patients with axial spondyloarthritis (AxSpA) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) in a real clinical setting. Methods: This multicenter retrospective observational study included all AxSpA and PsA patients who received at least one dose of SEC. Adverse events (AE) and the drug retention rate were the main study outcomes. Drug survival was analyzed by Kaplan-Meier curves while predictive factors of discontinuation were evaluated using a Cox regression analysis. The weight of these associations was estimated by hazard ratio (HR) values. Results: We included 154 patients (59 PsA and 95 AxSpA). Mean disease duration was 6.5 years (IQR 2-8). Sixty-one percent of patients were treated with two or more biologics prior to SEC. The 1 and 2-year retention rates for SEC were 66 and 43%, respectively. The main causes of discontinuation were inefficacy (59%) and AE (36%). The factors associated with lower risk of discontinuation were male gender (HR 0.54, 95% CI 0.38-0.78 p = 0.001), obesity (HR 0.53, 95% CI 0.30-0.93 p = 0.027), hypertension (HR 0.55, 95% CI 0.30-0.93 p = 0.008), and diabetes (HR 0.42 95% CI 0.18-0.99 p = 0.047) while number of previous biologics and depression were predictors of discontinuation (HR 1.18, 95% CI 1.04-1.34 p = 0.011 and HR 2.53, 95% CI 1.61-3.96 p < 0.001). Conclusions: SEC showed a good retention rate in a population previously exposed to several biological therapies. As a novelty, cardiometabolic comorbidities were associated with better drug survival.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the efficacy and safety of TCZ in monotherapy (TCZMONO) vs. combined with conventional immunosuppressive drugs (TCZCOMBO) in Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA) in a clinical practice scenario. METHODS: Multicenter study of 134 patients with refractory GCA. Patients on TCZMONO (n = 82) were compared with those on TCZCOMBO (n = 52). Drugs were methotrexate (MTX) (n = 48), azathioprine (n = 3), and leflunomide (n = 1). The main outcomes were: prolonged remission (normalization of clinical and laboratory parameters for at least 6 months) and the number of relapses. RESULTS: Patients on TCZCOMBO were younger (68.8 ± 8.0 vs 71.2 ± 9.0 years; p = 0.04), with a trend to a longer GCA duration (median [IQR],18.5 [6.25-34.0] vs. 13.0 [7.75-33.5] months; p = 0.333), higher C-reactive protein (CRP) levels (2.1[1-4.7] vs 1.2 [0.2-2.4] mg/dL; p = 0.003), and more prevalence of extra-cranial large-vessel vasculitis (LVV) (57% vs. 34.1%; p = 0.007). In both groups, rapid and sustained improvement was observed. Despite the longer GCA duration, and the higher CRP levels and prevalence of LVV in the TCZCOMBO, the improvement was similar in both groups at 12 months. Moreover, in the TCZCOMBO group, prolonged remission was significantly higher at 12-month. Relapses and serious adverse events were similar in both groups. CONCLUSION: In clinical practice, TCZ in monotherapy or combined with conventional immunosuppressive agents is effective and safe in patients with GCA. Nevertheless, the addition of immunosuppressive drugs, usually MTX, seems to allow a higher rate of prolonged remission, even in patients with a longer GCA duration, more extra-cranial LVV involvement, and higher acute-phase reactants.

OBJECTIVES: The Assessment of SpondyloArthritis international Society health index (ASAS-HI) was designed to assess the global health of patients with spondyloarthritis, but its performance in psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is hardly known. We addressed the clinimetric properties of this instrument in patients with PsA. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional observational study that included 90 consecutive patients with PsA. The measurement properties of ASAS-HI were analysed against the Disease Activity index for PSoriatic Arthritis (DAPSA) and the Psoriatic Arthritis Impact of Disease (PsAID) questionnaire. A multivariate analysis was performed to weigh the ASAS-HI items associated with DAPSA active disease and PsAID high impact. RESULTS: Mean ASAS-HI was 5.8 (4.3). Convergent validity was high both against DAPSA (ρ 0.78, P < 0.0001) and PsAID (ρ 0.80, P < 0.0001). ASAS-HI showed a high discriminant capacity for both DAPSA remission [optimal criterion ≤ 2, area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) 0.92 (95% CI: 0.85, 0.97), P < 0.0001], and low activity [optimal criterion ≤6, AUC 0.87 (95% CI: 0.79, 0.94), P < 0.0001]. The ASAS-HI items significantly associated with DAPSA active disease were: 'I find it hard to stand for long' (ß 4.48, P < 0.0001), 'I find it hard to concentrate' (ß 2.94, P = 0.042) and 'I sleep badly at night' (ß 1.86, P = 0.044). As for PsAID, the only item significantly associated with a high impact was 'I sleep badly at night' (ß -3.29, P = 0.015). CONCLUSION: We demonstrated construct validity of ASAS-HI, a spondyloarthritis instrument, for the assessment of global health in patients with PsA.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy of abatacept (ABA) in RA patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD) (RA-ILD). METHODS: This was an observational, multicentre study of RA-ILD patients treated with at least one dose of ABA. ILD was diagnosed by high-resolution CT (HRCT). We analysed the following variables at baseline (ABA initiation), 12 months and at the end of the follow-up: Modified Medical Research Council (MMRC) scale (1-point change), forced vital capacity (FVC) or diffusion lung capacity for carbon monoxide (DLCO) (improvement or worsening ≥10%), HRCT, DAS on 28 joints evaluated using the ESR (DAS28ESR) and CS-sparing effect. RESULTS: We studied 263 RA-ILD patients [150 women/113 men; mean (s.d.) age 64.6 (10) years]. At baseline, they had a median duration of ILD of 1 (interquartile range 0.25-3.44) years, moderate or severe degree of dyspnoea (MMRC grade 2, 3 or 4) (40.3%), FVC (% of the predicted) mean (s.d.) 85.9 (21.8)%, DLCO (% of the predicted) 65.7 (18.3) and DAS28ESR 4.5 (1.5). The ILD patterns were: usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) (40.3%), non-specific interstitial pneumonia (NSIP) (31.9%) and others (27.8%). ABA was prescribed at standard dose, i.v. (25.5%) or s.c. (74.5%). After a median follow-up of 12 (6-36) months the following variables did not show worsening: dyspnoea (MMRC) (91.9%); FVC (87.7%); DLCO (90.6%); and chest HRCT (76.6%). A significant improvement of DAS28ESR from 4.5 (1.5) to 3.1 (1.3) at the end of follow-up (P < 0.001) and a CS-sparing effect from a median 7.5 (5-10) to 5 (2.5-7.5) mg/day at the end of follow-up (P < 0.001) was also observed. ABA was withdrawn in 62 (23.6%) patients due to adverse events (n = 30), articular inefficacy (n = 27), ILD worsening (n = 3) and other causes (n = 2). CONCLUSION: ABA may be an effective and safe treatment for patients with RA-ILD.

OBJECTIVES: A potential point of concern among clinicians is whether results derived from the clinical trials can be reasonably applied or generalised to a definable group of patients seen in real world. It can be the case of the GiACTA study that is a phase III randomised controlled trial of tocilizumab (TCZ) in giant cell arteritis (GCA). To address this question, we compared the clinical features and the responses to TCZ from the GiACTA trial patients with those from a series of GCA seen in the daily clinical practice. METHODS: Comparative study of clinical features between patients from the GiACTA trial (overall n=251) and those from a multicentre series of real-world GCA patients undergoing TCZ therapy (n=134). The diagnosis of GCA in the GiACTA trial was established by the ACR modified criteria whereas in the series of real-world patients it was made by using the ACR criteria, a positive biopsy of temporal artery or the presence of imaging techniques consistent with large-vessel vasculitis in individuals who presented cranial symptoms of GCA. GiACTA trial patients received subcutaneous TCZ (162 mg every 1 or 2 weeks) whereas those from the clinical practice series were treated using standard IV dose (8 mg/kg/month) or subcutaneous (162 mg/week). RESULTS: Real-life patients undergoing TCZ were older with longer disease duration and higher values of ESR and had received conventional immunosuppressive therapy (mainly methotrexate) more commonly than those included in the GiACTA trial. Despite clinical differences, TCZ was equally effective in both GiACTA trial and clinical practice patients. However, serious infections were more commonly observed in GCA patients recruited from the clinical practice. CONCLUSIONS: Despite clinical differences with patients recruited in clinical trials, data from real-life patients confirm the efficacy of TCZ in GCA.

Introduction: The role of the immune response in the pathogenesis of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) remains elusive. It is possible that differences in the frequencies of Th17 cells and/or defects in the immunoregulatory mechanisms are involved in the pathogenesis of APS. Our aim was to determine the peripheral blood Th cells phenotype and the circulating cytokine profile in patients with primary APS (pAPS) and compare it with systemic lupus erythemathosus (SLE) as disease control group. Methods: The frequencies of circulating regulatory T cells (Tregs) were determined in PBMCs from 36 patients with pAPS by flow cytometry. As control groups we included 21 age- and gender-matched healthy controls (HC) and 11 patients with SLE. The suppressive capacity of Tregs was evaluated in vitro by coculture assay. On the other hand, intracellular cytokine production was assessed in Th1, Th2, and Th17 cells and circulating IL-6, IL-10, and IL-35 were measured by Cytometric Bead Array and ELISA. The quantification of Th master gene expression levels was performed by real time quantitative PCR. Results: pAPS patients and SLE patients did not show differences in the percentage or number of Tregs compared to HC. The suppressive capacity of Tregs was also similar in the three study group. Instead, we found higher FoxP3·mRNA expression levels in pAPS patients and HC than SLE patients. Regarding the Th17 response, patients with pAPS and HC showed a significantly lower frequency of circulating Th17 cells than SLE. However, no differences were observed in the Th1 response between patients and controls. Thus, increased Th17/Th1 and Th17/Treg ratios were found in SLE patients but not in pAPS patients. pAPS and SLE patients had higher serum IL-6 levels than HC but there was not difference between both disease groups. Besides, a significant increase in the immunosuppressive cytokine levels was observed only in pAPS as compared to HC. Conclusions: Our data demonstrate an increased inflammatory profile of peripheral blood CD4+ T cells from SLE as compared with pAPS mostly due to an increased Th17 response. In conclusion, there seems not to be a direct pathogenic role for Th cells in pAPS but in SLE.

OBJECTIVE: Tocilizumab (TCZ) has shown efficacy in clinical trials on giant cell arteritis (GCA). Real-world data are scarce. Our objective was to assess efficacy and safety of TCZ in unselected patients with GCA in clinical practice Methods: Observational, open-label multicenter study from 40 national referral centers of GCA patients treated with TCZ due to inefficacy or adverse events of previous therapy. Outcomes variables were improvement of clinical features, acute phase reactants, glucocorticoid-sparing effect, prolonged remission and relapses. A comparative study was performed: (a) TCZ route (SC vs. IV); (b) GCA duration (≤6 vs. >6 months); (c) serious infections (with or without); (d) ≤15 vs. >15 mg/day at TCZ onset. RESULTS: 134 patients; mean age, 73.0 ± 8.8 years. TCZ was started after a median [IQR] time from GCA diagnosis of 13.5 [5.0-33.5] months. Ninety-eight (73.1%) patients had received immunosuppressive agents. After 1 month of TCZ 93.9% experienced clinical improvement. Reduction of CRP from 1.7 [0.4-3.2] to 0.11 [0.05-0.5] mg/dL (p < 0.0001), ESR from 33 [14.5-61] to 6 [2-12] mm/1st hour (p < 0.0001) and decrease in patients with anemia from 16.4% to 3.8% (p < 0.0001) were observed. Regardless of administration route or disease duration, clinical improvement leading to remission at 6, 12, 18, 24 months was observed in 55.5%, 70.4%, 69.2% and 90% of patients. Most relevant adverse side-effect was serious infections (10.6/100 patients-year), associated with higher doses of prednisone during the first three months of therapy. CONCLUSION: In clinical practice, TCZ yields a rapid and maintained improvement of refractory GCA. Serious infections appear to be higher than in clinical trials.

This study was conducted to evaluate phagocyte function in patients with age-related chronic inflammatory conditions. It included 95 patients with PMR, 17 with GCA, 40 with EORA, and 25 age-matched HCs. Serum IL-8 was determined with a bead array. The chemotactic capacity, phagocytic ability, and oxidative burst activity of circulating leukocytes were determined with flow cytometry kits. Patients with active chronic inflammatory diseases showed a significant increase in circulating levels of IL-8 that remained elevated in patients with PMR or EORA, despite treatment. No correlation was found between circulating IL-8 and the migratory capacity of neutrophils. Neutrophils from patients with active EORA without stimulus and after fMLP stimuli showed a higher capacity to migrate than those of the HCs (P=0.033). The phagocytic activity of granulocytes in the patients with GCA was significantly higher than in the HCs and the patients with PMR or EORA (P<0.05). The percentage and MFI of phagocytes that produce ROIs when stimulated with Escherichia coli was significantly reduced in neutrophils and monocytes from the patients with age-restricted inflammatory conditions. We concluded that the effector functions of phagocytes, determined to be chemotaxis, phagocytosis, and oxidative burst, are deregulated in age-restricted inflammatory disorders and may have a pathogenic role.

Objetivo: Investigar si existe asociación del polimorfismo rs20541 (R130Q) del gen de la IL-13 con la susceptibilidad y la expresión clínica de pacientes con enfermedades inflamatorias crónicas asociadas al envejecimiento. Material y métodos: Se estudiaron 78 pacientes con arteritis de células gigantes (ACG), 174 con polimialgia reumática (PMR), 90 con artritis reumatoide de comienzo en el anciano (EORA), y 465 controles sanos de la misma zona geográfica. El polimorfismo rs20541 (R130Q) para IL-13 se evaluó mediante PCR-RFLP. Los niveles de IL-13 circulante se determinaron por ELISA. Resultados: En los pacientes con ACG se observó una mayor frecuencia del genotipo AA [2,349 (0,994- 5,554)], así como del alelo A [1,589 (1,085-2,328)] y de portadores de dicho alelo [1,656 (1,021-2,686)] (p < 0,05). No encontramos diferencias significativas entre los pacientes con PMR y EORA respecto al grupo control. Cuando comparamos las diferentes patologías entre sí, tampoco encontramos diferencias significativas entre ellas. En los pacientes con ACG las diferencias en el genotipo se asociaron con el pronóstico de la enfermedad. En pacientes con PMR, el genotipo AA se asoció con niveles más elevados de IL-13 circulante comparado con el GA. Sin embargo, esta asociación no se apreció para los controles o las otras enfermedades. Conclusiones: La ACG es más frecuente en individuos portadores del polimorfismo rs20541 (R130Q) del gen de la IL13. La utilidad de este gen para predecir el pronóstico en ACG debe ser confirmada en estudios con mayor número de pacientes (AU)

However, such an association was not detected for controls and the other disease groups. Conclusions: GCA is more frequent in carriers of the rs20541 (R130Q) polymorphism in the IL-13 gene. The utility of this polymorphism to predict the GCA prognosis must be confirmed in studies with a higher number of patients (AU)

MATERIAL AND METHODS: 78 patients with giant cell arteritis (GCA), 174 with polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR), 90 elderly-onset rheumatoid arthritis (EORA), and 465 healthy controls from the same geographic area were studied. The rs20541 (R130Q) polymorphism in the IL-13 gene was evaluated by PCR-RFLP. Circulating levels of IL-13 were measured by ELISA. RESULTS: A higher frequency of the AA genotype [2.349 (0.994-5.554)], as well as the allele A [1.589 (1.085-2.328] and the A carriers [1.656 (1.021-2.686)] (p<0.05) was observed in the GCA patients. No significant differences were observed in the PMR and EORA patients as compared with the healthy controls. Neither difference was observed among the different disease groups studied. In GCA patients, differences in the genotype were associated with a worse prognosis. In PMR patients, the AA genotype was associated with higher levels of serum IL-13 than the GA one. However, such an association was not detected for controls and the other disease groups. CONCLUSIONS: GCA is more frequent in carriers of the rs20541 (R130Q) polymorphism in the IL-13 gene. The utility of this polymorphism to predict the GCA prognosis must be confirmed in studies with a higher number of patients.

Dependiendo de la región geográfica y del grupo de edad afectado, las vasculitis de vaso grande (VVG) constituyen uno de los tipos de vasculitis sistémicas más frecuentes. Mientras que la arteritis de células gigantes (ACG) ocurre de forma exclusiva en individuos de edad avanzada y es más frecuente en países con ascendencia europea, la arteritis de Takayasu (AT) afecta fundamentalmente a mujeres jóvenes de países orientales. El diagnóstico de estas enfermedades se ha basado, además de los criterios clínicos, en los hallazgos histológicos característicos en la biopsia de arteria temporal (BAT) en el caso de la ACG, y en los resultados de la angiografía en la AT. Durante los últimos años, ningún nuevo biomarcador ha conseguido desplazar a los reactantes de fase aguda tradicionales (VSG y PCR) en el diagnóstico y monitorización de las VVG. Únicamente la interleucina-6 circulante se ha mostrado como más sensible que los marcadores de actividad clásicos, pero su uso está limitado por la falta de disponibilidad de su determinación de forma rutinaria. Por otra parte, las técnicas de imagen juegan un papel creciente en el diagnóstico y seguimiento de las VVG. La utilización en los últimos años de técnicas no invasivas, como la resonancia magnética, la ecografía Doppler, la tomografía por emisión de positrones y la tomografía computarizada han ayudado a mejorar el conocimiento de estas patologías, aunque se discute tanto su sensibilidad y especificidad diagnóstica frente a la BAT y la angiografía, como su valor para el seguimiento de los pacientes afectados por este tipo de VVG (AU)

Whereas giant cell arteritis (GCA) occurs exclusively in elderly individuals and is more frequent in countries with European ancestry, Takayasuıs arteritis (TA) mainly affects young women from eastern countries. The diagnosis of these disorders has been based on the characteristic clinical picture, together with the typical histopathological features in the temporal artery of patients with GCA, and the angiography results in TA patients. During the last few years, no new biomarkers have substituted the traditional ones (ESR and CRP) in the diagnosis and monitoring of disease activity in LVV. Only the levels of circulating IL-6 have demonstrated a higher sensitivity compared with the classic acute phase reactants, but its utility is limited due to its lack of inclusion as a routine technique. On the other hand, imaging techniques play a relevant role in the diagnosis and follow-up of patients with LVV. The use of new non-invasive techniques such as MRI, Doppler ultrasound, PET scan or CT has helped to improve the understanding of these disorders, although the sensitivity and specificity of these new imaging techniques compared with the classic temporal artery biopsy or angiography for diagnosis and follow-up remains to be established (AU)

OBJECTIVE: Toll-like receptor (TLR) 4 (+896 A/G) gene polymorphism has been reported to be associated with susceptibility to giant cell arteritis (GCA) with inconsistent results. To provide a more definitive conclusion, a cumulative meta-analysis of the association of TLR4 (+896 A/G) polymorphism with GCA susceptibility combining previous studies was performed. METHODS: The cumulative meta-analysis included 3 case-control studies which provided a total of 437 patients and 1023 controls. Meta-analysis was conducted by fitting random effects models and checked for heterogeneity and publication bias. Combined odds ratio (OR) and associated 95% confidence intervals (CI) were obtained by using a DerSimonian and Laird random effects model. RESULTS: Three studies, all from a South European ancestry, were identified through a literature search and included in this meta-analysis. The cumulative meta-analysis showed that the pooled random effects OR was non significant (OR: 1.46, 95% CI: 0.95-2.25; p = 0.082). There is some evidence suggestive of moderate-high heterogeneity between the three studies, I2 34.2% (95% CI: 0-55.2). CONCLUSION: This cumulative meta-analysis does not demonstrate an association of TLR4 (+896 A/G) gene polymorphism with susceptibility to GCA. Further studies using larger samples and in populations from different geographic origins are needed to determine the exact role of TLR4 gene polymorphisms in GCA.

OBJECTIVE: Coding variants in Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) have been reported to be associated with inflammatory diseases. The aim of this study was to determine whether two of these polymorphisms (+896 A/G and +1196 C/T) are associated with susceptibility and clinical features of GCA. We also attempted to correlate the functional consequences of these polymorphisms. METHODS: A total of 72 patients with GCA and 126 age-matched controls were genotyped using allele-specific PCR and restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis. TLR4 expression was studied on peripheral blood mononuclear cells by flow cytometry and TLR4 function was assessed by stimulating monocytes in vitro with a specific ligand. RESULTS: There was no significant difference in allele frequency or genotype of TLR4 (+896 A/G and +1196 C/T) between GCA patients and controls. The clinical characteristics of these patients were unrelated to the presence of these polymorphisms. Furthermore, we did not observe an association with TLR4 expression or a distinct phenotype of TLR4 response with the +896 A/G and +1196 C/T genotypes. CONCLUSION: Our results do not support the association of these TLR4 variants with GCA. Studies including a larger number of patients and patient populations from different geographical origin are needed.

BACKGROUND: Several studies report the use of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) inhibitors in refractory hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), particularly infliximab and etanercept. However, very limited data have been reported for adalimumab, the newest fully human anti-TNF-alpha monoclonal antibody. We evaluated the long-term efficacy and safety of adalimumab therapy in 6 patients with refractory HS. In the case of positive culture findings from any draining lesion, antibiotic therapy was administered for at least 2 weeks before initiating adalimumab therapy. Adalimumab (in 40-mg subcutaneous injections) was prescribed every other week. If the disease was inadequately controlled, the dosage was increased to 40 mg/wk. If HS was in persistent clinical remission, adalimumab therapy was gradually decreased to 40 mg every 3 weeks. Quality of life was assessed using the Dermatology Life Quality Index. OBSERVATIONS: Six patients (mean [SD] age, 39.3 [12.9] years) with severe HS (mean [SD] duration, 22.5 [11.7] years) were treated with adalimumab. Significant improvements after 1 month of treatment were seen in the Dermatology Life Quality Index; in the number of affected regions, nodules, and fistulas; and in the basic laboratory findings. Improvements were maintained for a mean (SD) follow-up of 21.5 (7.1) (range, 13-29) months. Adalimumab was well tolerated. Conclusion Adalimumab appears to be an effective and safe treatment for refractory HS.
