RESUMO

To improve the performance of Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 solar cells, a strategy is proposed to improve the quality of absorber and back interface simultaneously by substituting V-doped Mo (Mo:V) for a conventional Mo back electrode and incorporating Ag into the Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 (ACZTSSe) absorber in this work. Since p+-type V-doped MoSe2 (MoSe2:V) is formed in the site between the absorber and Mo:V during selenization, the conventional Mo/n-MoSe2 back contact is modified to Mo:V/p+-MoSe2:V, a back surface passivation field (BSPF) is established at the back interface, the band bending of MoSe2:V is downward and that of bottom of the absorber is upward. Further investigation reveals that the back contact modification and Ag doping have a synergistic effect on inhibiting carrier recombination, decreasing series resistance and increasing shunt resistance, thereby leading to the PCE of device without antireflection coating increased from 8.61 to 10.98%, which is larger than the sum of increase in PCE induced by Ag doping alone (8.61 to 9.66%) and back contact modification alone (8.61 to 9.63%). It is demonstrated that the synergistic effect stems mainly from the strengthened BSPF and the further reduced back contact barrier height. The former is due to the increased difference in work function (WF) between MoSe2:V and absorber induced by the reduced WF of the absorber after Ag doping and the raised WF of MoSe2:V after V doping. The latter is due to the downshifted valence band maximum of absorber after Ag doping. This work highlights the synergistic effect of back contact modification and Ag doping on improving the performance of CZTSSe solar cells and also provides an effective way to suppress carrier recombination.

RESUMO

Enzymatic browning reactions, triggered by oxidative stress, significantly compromise the quality of harvested crops during postharvest handling. This has profound implications for the agricultural industry. Recent advances have employed a systematic, multi-omics approach to developing anti-browning treatments, thereby enhancing our understanding of the resistance mechanisms in harvested crops. This review illuminates the current multi-omics strategies, including transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomic methods, to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying browning. These strategies are pivotal for identifying potential metabolic markers or pathways that could mitigate browning in postharvest systems.

RESUMO

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Echinacea purpurea (L.) Moench (EP) is a perennial herbaceous flowering plant with immunomodulatory effects. However, the immunomodulatory effects of EP on broilers after vaccination are still unclear. AIM OF THE STUDY: The aim is to study the effect of EP and Echinacea purpurea (L.) Moench extracts(EE) on avian influenza virus (AIV) immunity, and further explore the potential mechanism of immune regulation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Broilers were fed with feed additives containing 2% EP or 0.5% EE, and vaccinated against avian influenza. The samples were collected on the 7th, 21st, and 35th day after vaccination, and the feed conversion ratio (FCR) was calculated. Blood antibody titer, jejunal sIgA content, tight junction protein, gene and protein expression of TLR4-MAPK signaling pathway were also detected. RESULTS: The results showed that vaccination could cause immune stress, weight loss, increase sIgA content, and up-regulate the expression of tight junction proteins, including zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1), Occludin, and Claudin-1, as well as the genes of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), myeloid differentiation primary response 88 (MyD88), receptor-associated factor 6 (TRAF6), activator protein 1 (AP-1) protein gene expression on TLR4-mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway, and the protein expression of MyD88, extracellular regulated protein kinases (ERK), and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK). EP and EE could increase the body weight of broilers, further improve antibody titers, decrease FCR, increase sIgA levels, up-regulate the expression of tight junction proteins, including ZO-1, Occludin, and Claudin-1, as well as the genes of TLR4, MyD88, TRAF6, and AP-1 and the protein expression of MyD88, ERK, and JNK in the TLR4-MAPK signaling pathway. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, EP and EE can increase the broiler's production performance and improve vaccine immune effect through the TLR4-MAPK signaling pathway.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Vitamin D plays a vital role in maintaining homeostasis and enhancing the absorption of calcium, an essential component for strengthening bones and preventing osteoporosis. There are many factors known to relate to plasma vitamin D concentration (PVDC). However, most of these studies were performed with traditional statistical methods. Nowadays, machine learning methods (Mach-L) have become new tools in medical research. In the present study, we used four Mach-L methods to explore the relationships between PVDC and demographic, biochemical, and lifestyle factors in a group of healthy premenopausal Chinese women. Our goals were as follows: (1) to evaluate and compare the predictive accuracy of Mach-L and MLR, and (2) to establish a hierarchy of the significance of the aforementioned factors related to PVDC. METHODS: Five hundred ninety-three healthy Chinese women were enrolled. In total, there were 35 variables recorded, including demographic, biochemical, and lifestyle information. The dependent variable was 25-OH vitamin D (PVDC), and all other variables were the independent variables. Multiple linear regression (MLR) was regarded as the benchmark for comparison. Four Mach-L methods were applied (random forest (RF), stochastic gradient boosting (SGB), extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), and elastic net). Each method would produce several estimation errors. The smaller these errors were, the better the model was. RESULTS: Pearson's correlation, age, glycated hemoglobin, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, and hemoglobin were positively correlated to PVDC, whereas eGFR was negatively correlated to PVDC. The Mach-L methods yielded smaller estimation errors for all five parameters, which indicated that they were better methods than the MLR model. After averaging the importance percentage from the four Mach-L methods, a rank of importance could be obtained. Age was the most important factor, followed by plasma insulin level, TSH, spouse status, LDH, and ALP. CONCLUSIONS: In a healthy Chinese premenopausal cohort using four different Mach-L methods, age was found to be the most important factor related to PVDC, followed by plasma insulin level, TSH, spouse status, LDH, and ALP.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The incidence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) has dramatically increased in recent years, with significant impacts on patient mortality rates. Previous studies have identified multiple risk factors for CKD, but they mostly relied on the use of traditional statistical methods such as logistic regression and only focused on a few risk factors. AIM: To determine factors that can be used to identify subjects with a low estimated glomerular filtration rate (L-eGFR < 60 mL/min per 1.73 m2) in a cohort of 1236 Chinese people aged over 65. METHODS: Twenty risk factors were divided into three models. Model 1 consisted of demographic and biochemistry data. Model 2 added lifestyle data to Model 1, and Model 3 added inflammatory markers to Model 2. Five machine learning methods were used: Multivariate adaptive regression splines, eXtreme Gradient Boosting, stochastic gradient boosting, Light Gradient Boosting Machine, and Categorical Features + Gradient Boosting. Evaluation criteria included accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), F-1 score, and balanced accuracy. RESULTS: A trend of increasing AUC of each was observed from Model 1 to Model 3 and reached statistical significance. Model 3 selected uric acid as the most important risk factor, followed by age, hemoglobin (Hb), body mass index (BMI), sport hours, and systolic blood pressure (SBP). CONCLUSION: Among all the risk factors including demographic, biochemistry, and lifestyle risk factors, along with inflammation markers, UA is the most important risk factor to identify L-eGFR, followed by age, Hb, BMI, sport hours, and SBP in a cohort of elderly Chinese people.

RESUMO

Background: Uncontrolled intimal hyperplasia (IH) after autologous saphenous vein grafting triggers a high restenosis rate; however, its association with the activation of NADPH oxidase (NOX)-related pathways is unclear. Here, we investigated the effects and mechanism of oscillatory shear stress (OSS) on grafted vein IH. Methods: Thirty male New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into control, high-OSS (HOSS), and low-OSS (LOSS) groups, and the vein grafts were harvested after 4 weeks. Hematoxylin and eosin staining and Masson staining assays were used to observe morphological and structural changes. Immunohistochemical staining was used to detect α-SMA, PCNA, MMP-2, and MMP-9 expression. Immunofluorescence staining was used to observe reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in the tissues. Western blotting was used to determine the expression levels of pathway-related proteins (NOX1, NOX2, AKT, p-AKT, and BIRC5), PCNA, BCL-2, BAX, and caspase-3/cleaved caspase-3 in tissues. Results: Blood flow velocity was lower in the LOSS group than in the HOSS group, while vessel diameter did not change significantly. Shear rate was elevated in both HOSS and LOSS groups but was higher in the HOSS group. Additionally, vessel diameter increased with time in the HOSS and LOSS groups, whereas flow velocity did not. Intimal hyperplasia was significantly lower in the LOSS group than in the HOSS group. IH was dominated by smooth muscle fibers in the grafted veins and collagen fibers in the media. OSS restriction significantly reduced the α-SMA, PCNA, MMP-2, and MMP-9 levels. Moreover, ROS production and the expression of NOX1, NOX2, p-AKT, BIRC5, PCNA, BCL-2, BAX, and cleaved caspase-3 were phase-reduced in LOSS compared to the levels in the HOSS group. Total AKT was not differentially expressed among the three groups. Conclusion: OSS promotes the proliferation, migration, and survival of subendothelial vascular smooth muscle cells in grafted veins, which may be related to the regulation of downstream p-AKT/BIRC5 levels through the increased production of ROS by NOX. Drugs inhibiting this pathway might be used to prolong vein graft survival time.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Upper gastrointestinal cancer (UGC) is an important cause of cancer death in China, with low five-year survival rates due to the majority of UGC patients being diagnosed at an advanced stage. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop cost-effective, reliable and non-invasive methods for the early detection of UGC. METHODS: A novel plasma-based methylation panel combining simultaneous detection of three methylated biomarkers (ELMO1, ZNF582 and TFPI2) and an internal control gene were developed and used to examine plasma samples from 186 UGC patients and 190 control subjects. RESULTS: The results indicated excellent PCR amplification efficiency and reproducibility of ELMO1, ZNF582 and TFPI2 in the range of 10-100,000 copies per PCR reaction of fully methylated genomic DNA. The methylation levels of ELMO1, ZNF582 and TFPI2 were significantly higher in UGC samples than those in control subjects. The sensitivities of ELMO1, ZNF582 and TFPI2 alone for UGC detection were 32.3%, 61.3% and 30.6%, respectively; when three markers were combined, the sensitivity was improved to 71.0%, with a specificity of 90.0%, and the area under the curve (AUC) was 0.870 (95% CI: 0.832-0.902). CONCLUSION: Methylated ELMO1, ZNF582 and TFPI2 were specific for UGC and the three-methylated gene panel provided an alternative non-invasive choice for UGC early detection.

RESUMO

Tobacco contains a large amount of bioactive ingredients which can be used as source of feed. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of dietary addition of low-nicotine tobacco (LNT) on the growth performance, blood status, cecum microbiota and metabolite composition of meat rabbits. A total of 80 Kangda meat rabbits of similar weight were assigned randomly as four groups, and three of them were supplemented with 5%, 10%, and 20% LNT, respectively, with the other one fed with basal diet as control group. Each experiment group with 20 rabbits was raised in a single cage. The experiments lasted for 40 days with a predictive period of 7 days. The results revealed that LNT supplementation had no significant effect on the growth performance, but increased the half carcass weight compared with control group. Dietary supplemention of LNT decreased the triglycerides and cholesterol content in rabbit serum, and significantly increased the plasma concentration of lymphocytes (LYM), monocytes, eosinophils, hemoglobin HGB and red blood cells. In addition, LNT supplementation significantly changed the microbial diversity and richness, and metagenomic analysis showed that LNT supplementation significantly increased Eubacterium_siraeum_group, Alistipes, Monoglobus and Marvinbryantia at genus level. Moreover, LC-MS data analysis identified a total of 308 metabolites that markedly differed after LNT addition, with 190 significantly upregulated metabolites and 118 significantly downregulated metabolites. Furthermore, the correlation analysis showed that there was a significant correlation between the microbial difference and the rabbit growth performance. Overall, these findings provide theoretical basis and data support for the application of LNT in rabbits.

RESUMO

To analyze the effects of forest edge on radial growth and cell characteristics in different stand types of Larix principis-rupprechtii, we investigated the differences on radial growth, cell size and numbers between edge trees and inner trees of L. principis-rupprechtii in pure L. principis-rupprechtii forests and mixed forests of L. principis-rupprechtii and Betula platyphylla in Saihanba mechanical forest farm, China. The results showed that radial growth of the edge trees was significantly faster than that of the inner trees in pure forests, with the total ring width, earlywood width and latewood width of edge trees being 48.9%, 58.9% and 29.6% higher than those of inner trees, respectively. However, there was no difference in radial growth between edge trees and inner trees in mixed forest. The total number of earlywood cells, the number of large cells and small cells in earlywood of edge trees were increased by 63.3%, 55.6% and 70.0%, while the total number of latewood cells, the number of large cells and small cells in latewood of edge trees were increased by 35.4%, 37.5% and 28.5% compared with those of inner trees. There was no significant difference in the cell sizes between edge trees and inner trees. The cell numbers of earlywood and latewood of edge trees were not significantly different from those of inner trees in mixed forest, but the cell size in the earlywood of edge trees was 50.0% larger than those of inner trees in mixed forest. The sizes of the largest cells, the smallest cells, the large cells and the small cells in the earlywood of edge trees were increased by 28.6%, 33.3%, 16.6% and 25.0% compared with those of inner trees, respectively. The fast growth of edge trees and slow growth of inner trees in the pure forests could be effectively alleviated by cultivating mixed forests.

RESUMO

Jasmonate (JA)-induced plant senescence has been mainly studied with a dark/starvation-promoted system using detached leaves; yet, the induction of whole-plant senescence by JA remains largely unclear. This work reports the finding of a JA-induced whole-plant senescence of tobacco under light/non-starvation conditions and the investigation of underlying regulations. Methyl jasmonate (MeJA) treatment induces the whole-plant senescence of tobacco in a light-intensity-dependent manner, which is suppressed by silencing of NtCOI1 that encodes the receptor protein of JA-Ile (the bioactive derivative of JA). MeJA treatment could induce the senescence-specific cysteine protease gene SAG12 and another cysteine protease gene SAG-L1 to high expression levels in the detached leaf patches under dark conditions but failed to induce their expression in tobacco whole plants under light conditions. Furthermore, MeJA attenuates the RuBisCo activase (RCA) level in the detached leaves but has no effect on this protein in the whole plant under light conditions. A genome-wide transcriptional assay also supports the presence of a differential regulatory pattern of senescence-related genes during MeJA-induced whole-plant senescence under non-starvation conditions and results in the finding of a chlorophylase activity increase in this process. We also observed that the MeJA-induced senescence of tobacco whole plants is reversible, which is accompanied by a structural change of chloroplasts. This work provides novel insights into JA-induced plant senescence under non-starvation conditions and is helpful to dissect the JA-synchronized process of whole-plant senescence.

RESUMO

MYB transcription factors play essential roles in regulating plant secondary metabolism and jasmonate (JA) signaling. Putrescine N-methyltransferase is a key JA-regulated step in the biosynthesis of nicotine, an alkaloidal compound highly accumulated in Nicotiana spp. Here we report the identification of NtMYB305a in tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) as a regulatory component of nicotine biosynthesis and demonstrate that it binds to the JA-responsive GAG region, which comprises a G-box, an AT-rich motif, and a GCC-box-like element, in the NtPMT1a promoter. Yeast one-hybrid analysis, electrophoretic mobility shift assay and chromatin immunoprecipitation assays showed that NtMYB305a binds to the GAG region in vitro and in vivo. Binding specifically occurs at the ∼30-bp AT-rich motif in a G/C-base-independent manner, thus defining the AT-rich motif as previously unknown MYB-binding element. NtMYB305a localized in the nucleus of tobacco cells where it is capable of activating the expression of a 4×GAG-driven GUS reporter in an AT-rich motif-dependent manner. NtMYB305a positively regulates nicotine biosynthesis and the expression of NtPMT and other nicotine pathway genes. NtMYB305a acts synergistically with NtMYC2a to regulate nicotine biosynthesis, but no interaction between these two proteins was detected. This identification of NtMYB305a provides insights into the regulation of nicotine biosynthesis and extends the roles played by MYB transcription factors in plant secondary metabolism.

RESUMO

Vitiligo is perceived as an autoimmune skin disease. Previous studies showed conflicting data about vitiligo and pregnancy outcomes. To delineate the associations between vitiligo and the pregnancy outcomes, we used the National Health Insurance Research Database of Taiwan to conduct a retrospective cohort study from January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2015. This study population was composed of 1,096 women with vitiligo and 4,384 women without vitiligo, who were all matched according to age, comorbidity, and index year. Compared with the non-vitiligo controls, women with vitiligo had a higher risk of abortion (aHR 1.158, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.095-1.258, P < .001). Perinatal events, such as preterm delivery, pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, gestational diabetes mellitus, stillbirth, and intrauterine growth retardation, were not different between both groups (aHR 1.065, 95% CI 0.817-1.157, P = .413). To determine if systemic treatment before conception decreases the risk of abortion, we assessed the medical history of pregnant women with vitiligo 1 year before pregnancy. Patients who were treated with oral medications had a lower risk of abortion than those who were not (aHR: 0.675, 95% CI: 0.482-0.809, P < .001). Our study indicates that there is a higher risk of abortion in pregnant women with vitiligo and the control of disease activity with systemic treatment before conception could improve pregnancy outcomes.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Cembranoids are one kind of diterpenoids with multiple biological activities. The tobacco cembratriene-ol (CBT-ol) and cembratriene-diol (CBT-diol) have high anti-insect and anti-fungal activities, which is attracting great attentions for their potential usage in sustainable agriculture. Cembranoids were supposed to be formed through the 2-C-methyl-D-erythritol-4-phosphate (MEP) pathway, yet the involvement of mevalonate (MVA) pathway in their synthesis remains unclear. Exploring the roles of MVA pathway in cembranoid synthesis could contribute not only to the technical approach but also to the molecular mechanism for cembranoid biosynthesis. RESULTS: We constructed vectors to express cembratriene-ol synthase (CBTS1) and its fusion protein (AD-CBTS1) containing an N-terminal GAL4 AD domain as a translation leader in yeast. Eventually, the modified enzyme AD-CBTS1 was successfully expressed, which further resulted in the production of CBT-ol in the yeast strain BY-T20 with enhanced MVA pathway for geranylgeranyl diphosphate (GGPP) production but not in other yeast strains with low GGPP supply. Subsequently, CBT-diol was also synthesized by co-expression of the modified enzyme AD-CBTS1 and BD-CYP450 in the yeast strain BY-T20. CONCLUSIONS: We demonstrated that yeast is insensitive to the tobacco anti-fungal compound CBT-ol or CBT-diol and could be applied to their biosynthesis. This study further established a feasibility for cembranoid production via the MVA pathway and provided an alternative bio-approach for cembranoid biosynthesis in microbes.

RESUMO

Basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factor MYC2 regulates plant growth and development in many aspects through the jasmonic acid (JA) signaling pathway, while the role of MYC2 in plant carbohydrate metabolism has not been reported. Here, we generated NtMYC2a-overexpressing (NtMYC2a-OE) and RNA-interference-mediated knockdown (NtMYC2a-RI) transgenic plants of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L. cv. TN90) to investigate the role of NtMYC2a in carbohydrate metabolism and pollen development. Results showed that NtMYC2a regulates the starch accumulation and the starch-sugar conversion of floral organs, especially in pollen. The RT-qPCR analysis showed that the expression of starch-metabolic-related genes, AGPs, SS2 and BAM1, were regulated by NtMYC2a in the pollen grain, anther wall and ovary of tobacco plants. The process of pollen maturation was accelerated in NtMYC2a-OE plants and was delayed in NtMYC2a-RI plants, but the manipulation of NtMYC2a expression did not abolish the pollen fertility of the transgenic plants. Intriguingly, overexpression of NtMYC2a also enhanced the soluble carbohydrate accumulation in tobacco ovaries. Overall, our results demonstrated that the bHLH transcription factor NtMYC2a plays an important role in regulating the carbohydrate metabolism during pollen maturation in tobacco.

RESUMO

Many heteroacenes have been extensively studied to improve device performances; however, the morphological effects stemmed from the chemical modification on a multiscale remain less explored. In this research, five axisymmetric S,N-heteropentacenes (DTPT, DTPT-Ph, DTPT-CN, DTPT-PYCN, and DTPT-BTCN) are studied to reveal the influences of molecular symmetry and end-capping substituents on the structure-property relationship, the thermal stability, crystallization behavior, film morphology, and OFET performance. Phase behavior was probed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), while the quality of the crystal array and structural details was investigated by optical microscopy (OM) and grazing-incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering (GIWAXS). The analytic results reveal that (1) the parent axisymmetric S,N-heteropentacene, DTPT, is hard to crystallize, which hinders the preparation of high-quality crystal arrays for the OFET application. (2) The incorporation of π-conjugated electron-withdrawing (π-EW) endcaps that provide extended conjugation length and enhanced molecular polarity is required to form oriented crystal arrays to deliver reasonable OFET characteristics. (3) The π-EW endcaps with conformational freedom, such as -BTCN, due to the asymmetric feature of benzothiadiazole (BT), can hinder bulk phase crystallization and cause conformational disorder in the crystal array. Hence, the tradeoff of introducing the end-substituents to reinforce the poor crystalline nature of S,N-heteroacenes should be carefully considered.

RESUMO

Four new donor-acceptor-acceptor' (D-A-A')-configured donors, CPNT, DCPNT, CPNBT, and DCPNBT equipped with naphtho[1,2-c:5,6-c']bis([1,2,5]-thiadiazole) (NT) or naphtho[2,3-c][1,2,5]thiadiazole (NBT) as the central acceptor (A) unit bridging triarylamine donor (D) and cyano or dicyanovinylene acceptor (A'), were synthesized and characterized. All molecules exhibit bathochromic absorption shifts as compared to those of the benzothiadiazole (BT)-based analogues owing to improved electron-withdrawing and quinoidal character of NT and NBT cores that lead to stronger intramolecular charge transfer. Favorable energy level alignments with C70 , together with the good thermal stability and the antiparallel dimeric packing render CPNT and DCPNT suitable donors for vacuum-processed organic photovoltaics (OPV)s. OPVs based on DCPNT : C70 active layers displayed the best power conversion efficiency (PCE)=8.3%, along with an open circuit voltage of 0.92 V, a short circuit current of 14.5 mA cm-2 and a fill factor of 62% under 1 sun intensity, simulated AM1.5G illumination. Importantly, continuous light-soaking with AM 1.5G illumination has verified the durability of the devices based on CPNT:C70 and DCPNT : C70 as the active blends. The devices were examined for their feasibility of indoor light harvesting under 500 lux illumination by a TLD-840 fluorescent lamp, giving PCE=12.8% and 12.6%, respectively. These results indicate that the NT-based D-A-A'-type donors CPNT and DCPNT are potential candidates for high-stability vacuum-processed OPVs suitable for indoor energy harvesting.

RESUMO

An acceptor-donor-acceptor (A-D-A)-type non-fullerene acceptor (NFA), PTTtID-Cl, featuring thieno[3,2-b]thieno[2''',3''':4'',5'']-pyrrolo[2'',3'':4',5']thieno[2',3':4,5]thieno-[2,3-d]pyrrole (DTPTt) as the electron-rich core and 2-(5,6-dichloro-3-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-1-ylidene)malononitrile (ID-Cl) as the peripheral electron-deficient terminal group was synthesized and characterized. PTTtID-Cl exhibited strong absorption in the range of 700-850 nm in CHCl3 and redshifted absorption centered at 881 nm in a thin film. The near infrared (NIR)-absorption of PTTtID-Cl was combined with a low-bandgap polymer donor (PTB7-Th) to achieve binary and semitransparent organic photovoltaics (OPVs) with a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 8.9 % and 7.7 % (with an average visible transmittance (AVT) of 16.7 %), respectively. A ternary device with a ratio of PM7/PTTtID-Cl/IT-4F=1:0.15:0.85 (w/w) achieved a short-circuit current density of 19.46 mA cm-2 , an open-circuit voltage of 0.87 V, and a fill factor of 71.2 %, giving a PCE of 12.0 %. In addition, by employing the Ag/ITO/Ag microcavity structure, semitransparent colorful binary organic photovoltaics (OPVs) with superior transparency of 27.9 % at 427 nm and 22.7 % at 536 nm for blue and green devices, respectively, were prepared. The semitransparent colorful devices based on the optimized ternary blend gave PCEs of 8.7 %, 8.4 %, and 9.1 % for blue, green, and red devices, respectively. These results indicate the promising potential of PTTtID-Cl as a NIR-absorption NFA for applications in semitransparent colorful binary and ternary OPVs.

RESUMO

Ternary blend organic photovoltaics (OPVs) have been introduced to improve solar spectral absorption and reduce energy losses beyond that of binary blend OPVs, but the difficulties in simultaneously optimizing the morphology of three molecular components result in devices that have generally exhibited performance inferior to that of analogous binary OPVs. Here, we introduce a small molecule-based biternary OPV comprising two individual, vacuum-deposited binary bulk heterojunctions fused at a planar junction without component intermixing. In contrast to previous reports where the open circuit voltage (VOC) of a conventional, blended ternary cell lies between those of the individual binaries, the VOC of the biternary OPV corresponds to one of the constituent binaries, depending on the order in which they are stacked relative to the anode. Additionally, dipole-induced energy-level realignment between the two binary segments necessary to achieve maximum efficiency is observed only when using donor-acceptor-acceptor' dipolar donors in the photoactive heterojunctions. The optimized biternary OPV shows improved performance as compared to its two constituent binary OPVs, achieving a power conversion efficiency of 10.6 ± 0.3% under AM 1.5G 1 sun (100 mW/cm2) simulated illumination with VOC = 0.94 ± 0.01 V, a short circuit current density of 16.0 ± 0.5 mA cm-2, and a fill factor of 0.70 ± 0.01.

RESUMO

Three D-A-D-configured molecules DTPBT, DTPNT, and DTPNBT with high quantum yield of orange red (628 nm), red (659 nm), and deep-red/NIR (710 nm) fluorescence, respectively, were developed as emitting dopants in an exciplex-forming cohost (TCTA:3P-T2T) for high-efficiency fluorescence-based organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). The obtained physical properties together with theoretical calculations analyzed from these new molecules establish a clear structure-property relationship, in which the feature of central acceptor 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole (BT), naphtho[1,2-c:5,6-c']bis[1,2,5]thiadiazole (NT), and 2,1,3-naphthothiadiazole (NBT) plays the crucial role for governing the physical characteristics. The optimized device configured as ITO/HAT-CN/TAPC/TCTA/TCTA:3P-T2T:5% emitter/3P-T2T/LiF/Al gave a record-high efficiency of orange red (591 nm, 15%), red (647 nm, 10%), and deep-red/NIR (689 nm, 9%) electroluminescent devices. The effective harvest of triplet excitons with an exciplex-forming system in conjunction with efficient energy transfer between the exciplex and the dopant is beneficial for such high device efficiencies. More importantly, the stable exciplex-forming cohost and fast radiative decay rate of DTPNT render this particular device exhibiting high device stability as indicated by the low efficiency roll-off under high current densities (EQE (external quantum efficiency) values of 8.1% at 1000 cd m-2 and 6.8% at 10,000 cd m-2). These results reveal the potential of employing an exciplex-forming system as cohost for fluorescent dopants to furnish high-efficiency OLEDs with an emission wavelength extending to the red or even the NIR range.

RESUMO

A tactile sensor is an indispensable component for electronic skin, mimicking the sensing function of organism skin. Various sensing materials and microstructures have been adopted in the fabrication of tactile sensors. Herein, we propose a highly sensitive flexible tactile sensor composed of nanocomposites with pyramid and irregularly rough microstructures and implement a comparison of piezoresistive properties of nanocomposites with varying weight proportions of multi-wall nanotubes and carbon black particles. In addition to the simple and low-cost fabrication method, the tactile sensor can reach high sensitivity of 3.2 kPa-1 in the range of <1 kPa and fast dynamic response of 217 ms (loading) and 81 ms (recovery) at 40 kPa pressure. Moreover, body movement monitoring applications have been carried out utilizing the flexible tactile sensor. A sound monitoring application further indicates the potential for applications in electronic skin, human-computer interaction, and physiological detection.
