RESUMO

PURPOSE: The retear rate of rotator cuff (RC) after surgery is high, and the rapid and functional enthesis regeneration remains a challenge. Whether acellular amniotic membrane (AAM) helps to promote the healing of tendon to bone and which treatment is better are both unclear. The study aims to investigate the effect of AAM on the healing of RC and the best treatment for RC repair. METHODS: Thirty-three Sprague Dawley rats underwent RC transection and repair using microsurgical techniques and were randomly divided into the suturing repair only (SRO) group (n = 11), the AAM overlaying (AOL) group (n = 11), and the AAM interposition (AIP) group (n = 11), respectively. Rats were sacrificed at 4 weeks, then examined by subsequent micro-CT, and evaluated by histologic and biomechanical tests. The statistical analyses of one-way ANOVA or Kruskal-Wallis test were performed using with SPSS 23.0. A p < 0.05 was considered a significant difference. RESULTS: AAM being intervened between tendon and bone (AIP group) or overlaid over tendon to bone junction (AOL group) in a rat model, promoted enthesis regeneration, increased new bone and cartilage generation, and improved collagen arrangement and biomechanical properties in comparison with suturing repair only (SRO group) (AOL vs. SRO, p < 0.001, p = 0.004, p = 0.003; AIP vs. SRO, p < 0.001, p < 0.001, p < 0.001). Compared with the AOL group, the AIP group had better results in micro-CT evaluation, histological score, and biomechanical testing (p = 0 0.039, p = 0.011, p = 0.003, respectively). CONCLUSION: In the RC repair model, AAM enhanced regeneration of the tendon to bone junction. This regeneration was more effective when the AAM was intervened at the tendon to bone interface than overlaid above the tendon to bone junction.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have generated considerable excitement as a novel class of immunotherapeutic agents due to their remarkable efficacy in treating various types of cancer. However, the widespread use of ICIs has brought about a number of safety concerns, especially the development of immune-related adverse events (irAEs). These serious complications could result in treatment discontinuation and even life-threatening consequences, making it critical to identify high-risk groups and predictive markers of irAEs before initiating therapy. To this end, the current article examines several potential predictive markers of irAEs in important organs affected by ICIs. While retrospective studies have yielded some promising results, limitations such as small sample sizes, variable patient populations, and specific cancer types and ICIs studied make it difficult to generalize the findings. Therefore, prospective cohort studies and real-world investigations are needed to validate the potential of different biomarkers in predicting irAEs risk. Overall, identifying predictive markers of irAEs is a crucial step towards improving patient safety and enhancing the management of irAEs. With ongoing research efforts, it is hoped that more accurate and reliable biomarkers will be identified and incorporated into clinical practice to guide treatment decisions and prevent the development of irAEs in susceptible patients.

To clarify the photosynthetic mechanism contributing to the enhancement of intercropping advantages through co-ridge intercropping of maize and peanut, we conducted a field randomized block experiment under two phosphorus levels of 0(P0) and 180 kg P2O5·hm-2(P180) with flat intercropping of maize and peanut (FIC) as the control. We analyzed the effects of co-ridge intercropping of maize and peanut (RIC) and groove-ridge intercropping of maize and peanut (GIC) on crop leaf area index (LAI), SPAD values, CO2 carboxylation ability, photosystems coordination (ΦPSⅠ/PSⅡ), and intercropping advantage of yield. The results showed that RIC significantly increased SPAD value at the silking stage of intercropping maize, and significantly improved the apparent quantum yield of photosynthesis (AQY), maximum electron transfer rate (Jmax), maximum rate of Rubisco carboxylation (Vc,max), net photosynthetic rate at the CO2 saturation (Amax) and ΦPSⅠ/PSⅡ of intercropping maize compared with those of FIC and GIC at silking stage and milking stage, but reduced the ratio of variable fluorescence Fk to amplitude Fj-Fo(Wk) and the ratio of variable fluorescence Fj to amplitude Fp-Fo(Vj) of the functional leaf photosystem Ⅱ (PSⅡ) at the milking stage of maize. There were no significant differences in these parameters between FIC and GIC. Compared with FIC, both RIC and GIC increased LAI of intercropping peanut at late growth stage and SPAD value at pod setting stage, significantly improved Vc,max, Amax, and ΦPSⅠ/PSⅡ, and reduced Wk and Vj values of intercropping peanut functional leaves at pod expanding stage. The difference in these parameters between RIC and GIC were not significant. The land equivalent ratio and intercropping advantages of RIC were higher than those of FIC and GIC. Phosphorus application could further promote Vc,max, Jmax, Amax and ΦPSⅠ/PSⅡ of intercropping maize and peanut, and significantly improve yield advantages of intercropping. The findings indicated that co-ridge intercropping could enhance CO2 carboxylation and fixation by improving photosynthetic electron transport and pho-tosystems coordination, improve the photosynthetic rate of functional leaves of maize and peanut, thus increase crop yield and intercropping advantages.

This study aims to visualize research hotspots and trends of "ferroptosis in cancer", "necroptosis in cancer", "pyroptosis in cancer", and "cuproptosis in cancer" through a bibliometric analysis to facilitate understanding of future developments in basic and clinical research and to provide a new perspective on cancer treatment. From January 1, 2012 to October 31, 2022, in the field of "ferroptosis in cancer", a total of 2467 organizations from 79 different countries published 3302 articles. 2274 organizations from 72 different countries published 2233 articles in the field of " necroptosis in cancer". 1366 institutions from 58 different countries contributed 1445 publications in the field of "pyroptosis in cancer". In the field of " cuproptosis in cancer", the number of articles published in the last 10 years is relatively low, with a total of 109 articles published by 116 institutions from four different countries. In the field of "ferroptosis in cancer", Tang Daolin had published 66 documents, ranked the first, while Dixon SJ is the most cited author, cited 3148 times; In the fields of "necroptosis in cancer", Vandenabeele peter had published 35 papers and Degterev had been cited 995 times, ranked the first, respectively; Kanneganti thirumala-devi had published 24 papers, is the highest number of publications in the fields of "pyroptosis in cancer", while Shi JJ was the most cited author with being cited 508 times. Both Huang Yan and Wang Tao published three papers and tied for first place and Tsvetkov p ranks first with being cited 107 times in "cuproptosis in cancer". "Cell", "Cell", "Nature", and "Science" was the most frequently co-cited journal on "ferroptosis in cancer", "necroptosis in cancer", "pyroptosis in cancer", and "cuproptosis in cancer", respectively. Further exploration of inhibitors of different Programmed cell death (PCD) and their targeted therapies are potential treatment options for cancer, but more direct clinical evidence as well as higher level clinical trials remain to be explored. Further clarification of the mechanisms of crosstalk between these PCDs may provide effective cancer treatments. And the role of different types of PCDs, especially the novel ones discovered, in cancer can be expected to remain a hot topic of research in the cancer field for quite some time to come.

We have found that the expression of ring finger and WD repeat domain 3 (RFWD3) is significantly higher in unpaired and paired hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissues than in normal tissues. Moreover, this expression has a significant correlation with the infiltration level of 14 immune cell types and when the detected RFWD3 expression levels were grouped as high and low, a prominent difference was revealed for overall survival, disease-specific survival, and progression-free interval. Through statistical analysis (univariate Cox), we were also able to identify RFWD3 as an independent prognostic element for HCC, with RFWD3 having an ability to accurately predict HCC prognosis (area under the curve of 0.863). Finally, we have generated prognostic nomograms for probabilities of 1-, 3- and 5-year overall survival in HCC via integrating the factors of age, pathologic stage, alpha-fetoprotein level, and RFWD3 expression.

RESUMO

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most commonplace malignant tumors in the world. The occurrence and development of CRC are involved in numerous events. Metabolic reprogramming is one of the hallmarks of cancer and is convoluted and associated with carcinogenesis. Lots of metabolic genes are involved in the occurrence and progression of CRC. Study methods combining tumor genomics and metabolomics are more likely to explore this field in depth. In this mini-review, we make the latest progress and future prospects into the different molecular mechanisms of seven prognosis-related metabolic genes, we screened out in previous research, involved in the occurrence and development of CRC.

Objective. To analyze the EEG features of four subacute sclerosing panencephalitis cases in North China. Methods. We retrospectively analyzed the EEG features in four patients with subacute sclerosing panencephalitis and 12 patients in control group from North China. Results. The periodic long-interval diffuse discharges were found in all of the four cases with subacute sclerosing panencephalitis. The morphology and component of periodic complexes were varied in different patients and different wakefulness states. Some EEG parameter settings help to identify periodic long-interval diffuse discharges including the slowed sweep speed, decreased sensitivity and reduced number of montages. In each patient with subacute sclerosing panencephalitis, the periodic long-interval diffuse discharges associated with two types of brief episodes (1:1) during awake period were found and none of the patients in the control group had this EEG pattern. The score system based on the periodic discharges and brief episodes also shows that all the patients with SSPE reached score 5 while none of the patients in the control group has a score greater than 3, which suggests that this EEG pattern may have diagnostic value. Conclusions. In subacute sclerosing panencephalitis, the morphology and component of periodic long-interval diffuse discharges were varied in different patients and different wakefulness states. Specific EEG parameter settings help to identify periodic long-interval diffuse discharges. Periodic long-interval diffuse discharges associated with two types of brief episodes (1:1) during awake period may strongly suggest the diagnosis of subacute sclerosing panencephalitis.

The expression of angiopoietin (ANGPT) 1, ANGPT2, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) A, VEGFB, VEGFC, VEGFD, and placental growth factor (PGF) is significantly higher in tumor tissues than in normal tissues in both unpaired and paired hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) samples. ANGPT2, VEGFB, VEGFC, and PGF are primarily involved in regulating the activation of the epithelial-mesenchymal transition pathway; ANGPT1 is primarily involved in regulating the activation of the RAS/mitogen-activated protein kinase and receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) pathways; VEGFA is engaged in regulating the RTK activation pathway; and VEGFD is mainly involved in regulating the activation of the tuberous sclerosis protein/mammalian target of rapamycin pathway. There is a significant difference in overall survival between HCC patients with high and low expression of ANGPT2, PGF, VEGFA, and VEGFD. Disease free survival (DFS) is significantly shorter in HCC patients with high ANGPT2, PGF, and VEGFA expression than in those with low ANGPT2, PGF, and VEGFA expression.

Endoscopic ectomy of large nonpedunculated colorectal lesions (≥ 20 mm) might cause significant adverse incidents, such as delayed perforation and delayed bleeding, despite the closure of mucosal lesions with clips. The conventional utilization of prophylactic clipping has not decreased the risk of postprocedural delayed adverse events, and additional outcomes and cost-effectiveness research is needed for patients with proximal lesions ≥ 20 mm, in whom prophylactic clipping might be useful. Coverage of the wound after endoscopic excision offers shield protection against delayed concomitant diseases.

Background: Coronary artery calcification (CAC) is an independent risk factor of major adverse cardiovascular events; however, the impact of CAC on in-hospital death and adverse clinical outcomes in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) remains unclear. Objective: To explore the association between CAC and in-hospital mortality and adverse events in patients with COVID-19. Methods: This multicenter retrospective cohort study enrolled 2067 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patients with definitive clinical outcomes (death or discharge) admitted from 22 tertiary hospitals in China between January 3, 2020 and April 2, 2020. Demographic, clinical, laboratory results, chest CT findings, and CAC on admission were collected. The primary outcome was in-hospital death and the secondary outcome was composed of in-hospital death, admission to intensive care unit (ICU), and requiring mechanical ventilation. Multivariable Cox regression analysis and Kaplan-Meier plots were used to explore the association between CAC and in-hospital death and adverse clinical outcomes. Results: The mean age was 50 years (SD,16) and 1097 (53.1%) were male. A total of 177 patients showed high CAC level, and compared with patients with low CAC, these patients were older (mean age: 49 vs. 69 years, P < 0.001) and more likely to be male (52.0% vs. 65.0%, P = 0.001). Comorbidities, including cardiovascular disease (CVD) ([33.3%, 59/177] vs. [4.7%, 89/1890], P < 0.001), presented more often among patients with high CAC, compared with patients with low CAC. As for laboratory results, patients with high CAC had higher rates of increased D-dimer, LDH, as well as CK-MB (all P < 0.05). The mean CT severity score in high CAC group was also higher than low CAC group (12.6 vs. 11.1, P = 0.005). In multivariable Cox regression model, patients with high CAC were at a higher risk of in-hospital death (hazard ratio [HR], 1.731; 95% CI 1.010-2.971, P = 0.046) and adverse clinical outcomes (HR, 1.611; 95% CL 1.087-2.387, P = 0.018). Conclusion: High CAC is a risk factor associated with in-hospital death and adverse clinical outcomes in patients with confirmed COVID-19, which highlights the importance of calcium load testing for hospitalized COVID-19 patients and calls for attention to patients with high CAC. OBJECTIVE: To investigate and compare the clinical efficacies of remnant-preserving and remnant-non-preserving, remnant-non-preserving remnant segment preserving and remnant root preserving with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. METHODS: From March 2014 to December 2017, 204 patients with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries were treated by single-bundle ACL reconstruction with hamstring tendon autograft. According to the different methods of remnant preservation, the procedures were divided into remnant segment preserving group (A), remnant root preserving group (B), and remnant-non-preserving group (C). There were 37 males and 39 femalesin group A aged from 16 to 43 years old with an average of (28.80±5.41) years old. The time from injury to operation ranged from 2 to 11 weeks with an average of (3.68±1.04) weeks. In group B, there were 39 males and 25 females aged from 18 to 41 years old with an average of (28.42±5.60) years old. The time from injury to operation ranged from 2 to 10 weeks with an average of (3.36±1.68) weeks. In group C, there were 37 males and 27 females aged from 18 to 43 years old with an average of (29.10±6.11) years old. The time from injury to operation ranged from 3 to 11 weeks with an average of (3.54±1.46) weeks. The range of motion (ROM) of the knee was used to assess the range of extension and flextion of the knee at pre-operation and 24 months after operation. Lysholm score and the international knee documentation committee (IKDC) score were used to assess the knee function. The differences among three procedures were judged by comparing among the three groups at 6, 12 and 24 months postoperatively. RESULTS: All incisions got a one stage healing, and no complications, such as vascular injury, nerve damage and articular infect or the like, occurred. All the patients were followed up, and the follow-up duration of group A ranged from 24.00 to 45.96 months with a mean of (35.52±14.40) months;the follow up duration of group B ranged from 27.96 to 48.00 months with a mean of (37.56±10.68) month;and the follow up duration of group C ranged from 24.00 to 66.00 months with a mean of (37.08±13.44) month. There were no significant differences in follow up time among three groups (P>0.05). Six months after operation, Lysholm score 80.74±3.14 and IKDC score 79.92±3.44 in group A were higher than those in group B 80.74±3.14 and 78.21±4.63, and higher than those in group C 79.22±3.63 and 76.63±3.80 (P<0.05);12 months after operation, Lysholm score 89.84± 5.13 and IKDC score 87.90±3.93 in group A were higher than those in group B 85.74±6.04 and 83.62±5.64, and higher than those in group C 82.83±3.43 and 79.21±4.04(P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Compared with remnant-non-preserving group, the residual tissue of anterior cruciate ligament is preserved, which is conducive to promote the healing and remodeling of tendon graft and accelerate the recovery of joint function. Proper fixation of residual tissue and restoration of its tension are the key factors affecting the postoperative efficacy.

BACKGROUND: Colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) is one of the most common and fatal malignant tumors, which increases the difficulty of prognostic predictions. Thus, new biomarkers for the diagnosis and prognosis of COAD should be explored. Ferroptosis is a recently identified programmed cell death process that has the characteristics of iron-dependent lipid peroxide accumulation. However, the predictive value of ferroptosis-related genes (FRGs) for COAD still needs to be further clarified. AIM: To identify some critical FRGs and construct a COAD patient prognostic signature for clinical utilization. METHODS: The Cancer Genome Atlas database (TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus databases were the data sources for mRNA expression and corresponding COAD patient clinical information. Differentially expressed FRGs were recognized using R and Perl software. We constructed a multi-FRG signature of the TCGA-COAD cohort by performing a univariate Cox regression and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator Cox regression analysis. COAD patients from the Gene Expression Omnibus cohort were utilized for verification. RESULTS: Our research showed that most of the FRGs (85%) were differentially expressed between the corresponding adjacent normal tissues and cancer tissues in the TCGA-COAD cohort. Seven FRGs were related to overall survival (OS) in the univariate Cox analysis (all P < 0.05). A model with five FRGs (AKR1C1, AKR1C3, ALOX12, CRYAB, and FDFT1) was constructed to divide patients into high- and low-risk groups. The OS of patients in the high-risk group was significantly lower than that of the low-risk group (all P < 0.01 in the TCGA and Gene Expression Omnibus cohorts). The risk score was an independent prognosticator of OS in the multivariate Cox analysis (hazard ratio > 1, P < 0.01). The predictive capacity of the model was verified by a receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. In addition, a nomogram based on the expression of five hub FRGs and risk score can precisely predict the OS of individual COAD cancer patients. Immune correlation analysis and functional enrichment analysis results revealed that immunology-related pathways were abundant, and the immune states of the high-risk group and the low-risk group were different. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, a novel five FRG model can be utilized for predicting prognosis in COAD. Targeting ferroptosis may be a treatment option for COAD.

The incidence of posterior instability of shoulder joint was significantly lower than that of anterior instability, but the clinical diagnosis and treatment was difficult, and the misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis rate were high. Its etiology, clinical manifestation and treatment strategy are totally different from the anterior instability. Therefore, the deep understanding of the anatomical structure around the shoulder joint, the mastery of the examination method, and the classification of the shoulder instability based on the anatomy and injury mode are of great importance to improve the accuracy of diagnosis. CT three-dimensional reconstruction is helpful to evaluate the defect of humeral head and glenoid bone, and MRA is helpful for the accurate diagnosis of posterior glenoid lip and joint capsule. The treatment was divided into conservative treatment and surgical treatment. Conservative treatment is recommended for muscular instability. Surgical treatment is recommended for traumatic and dysplastic instability. Different operative methods should be performed according to the injury of glenoid side or humeral head side. According to the condition of bone defect, soft tissue operation, bone grafting or osteotomy were performed to reconstruct the posterior stable structure of the glenoid injury; according to the area of the anterior bone defect, bone grafting or subscapular muscle packing were performed to the head of humerus defect. The former has the advantages of short learning curve and firm fixation, while the latter has the advantages of minimally invasive operation and the ability to observe the lesions from multiple angles and accurately control the location of bone masses. This paper summarizes the above problems.

RESUMO

We recently read with interest the article "Diagnostic approach to faecal incontinence: What test and when to perform?". This is a comprehensive and practical review, which has particular significance for guiding clinicians to improve the examination strategy. Although we appreciate their work very much, based on the in-depth analysis of this research, we found some detailed problems in the article and will give our comments in this letter. If the author can further improve the relevant research, it will be valuable.

OBJECTIVE: To compare biomechanical characteristic of different high-strength sutures and suture sites for repairing posterior root tear of the medial meniscus with modified Mason-Allen technique. METHODS: Forty-eight specimen of medial meniscus of knee joint from fresh porcine (female, aged from 5 to 9 months with an average of 7 months) were chosen and established experimental model. The samples were divided into red zone fixation group and red-white zone fixation group according to suture sites, 24 in each group; and then were randomly divided into 3 subgroups which 8 in each group, and fixed with Ethibond suture, Ultrabraid suture and FiberWire suture, respectively. Biomechanical tests were performedon universal electromagnetic and mechanical testing machine. Each specimen was underwent 1 000 cyclic tests on the first time, then pull out test until failure. The maximum failure load, yield load, stiffness and displacement were analyzed. RESULTS: All specimen were successfully completed biomechanical tests. The failure mode of Ethibond group was caused by suture fracture; 6 cases of Ultrabraid suture group was caused by suture fracture which belong to red zone fixation group, 10 cases were caused by suture pull out, which 2 cases belong to red zone fixation group, 8 cases belong to red-white zone fixation group;8 cases of FiberWire group was caused by suture pull-out. Biomechanical test showed that:(1)In terms of suture strength, comparison of the maximum failure load, yield load and stiffness showed that Ethibond suture group Ultrabraid suture group >FiberWire suture group, and had statistical differences among groups (P<0.05);the results showed the suture strength in Ethibond was the best, Ultrabraid suture took the second place, and FiberWire suture was the worst. (2)As for different suture sites, comparison of the maximum failure load, yield load and stiffness showed that red zone fixation group >red-white region fixation group, and had statistical difference between two groups(P< 0.05);comparison of cyclic displacement at 100, 500 and 1 000 cycles showed that red zone fixation group

BACKGROUND: Paroxysmal tonic upgaze (PTU) is an infantile-onset paroxysmal neurological disorder that is characterized by episodes of sustained conjugate upward eye deviation. The paroxysmal abnormal eye movements need to be differentiated from seizures. We report a case of PTU with occipital discharge on electroencephalography (EEG), which made the diagnosis more complicated. CASE PRESENTATION: A 6-month-old girl presented with paroxysmal upward deviation or left strabismus of the eyes, with a bowed head, lowered jaw, raised eyebrows, closed lips, and slight grin. Each episode lasted for a few seconds, and episodes occurred multiple times per day. EEG showed spike waves in the right occipital region, and the girl was initially misdiagnosed with epilepsy. After further analysis using video EEG, we corrected her diagnosis as PTU and stopped the administration of an antiepileptic drug. CONCLUSION: PTU accompanied by discharge on EEG may lead to a misdiagnosis. Video EEG monitoring, and especially the analysis of EEG traces synchronized with attacks, can provide evidence to distinguish between seizures and non-epileptic events.

Glioma is one of the most common malignancies of the nervous system. Long non­coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are regulators involved in the progression of tumors. The present study aimed to determine the role of lncRNA cancer susceptibility 19 (CASC19) in glioma and its underlying molecular mechanism. Reverse transcription­quantitative PCR was performed to detect CASC19 and microRNA (miR)­454­3p expression in glioma and normal brain tissues. Ras­related protein in brain 5A (RAB5A) expression in glioma cells was also analyzed via western blotting. The relationship between CASC19 expression, clinicopathological parameters and MRI characteristics in patients with glioma was analyzed. Cell Counting Kit­8, BrdU, wound healing and Transwell assays were adopted to detect glioma cell proliferation, migration and invasion, respectively. The dual­luciferase reporter gene and RNA immunoprecipitation experiments were conducted to verify the targeting relationship between CASC19 and miR­454­3p, and between miR­454­3p and RAB5A. The results revealed that CASC19 expression was significantly upregulated in glioma tissues and cell lines. CASC19 expression was also positively associated with tumor diameter and pathological grade. Additionally, its high expression was closely associated with tumor MRI signal heterogeneity and peritumoral edema. CASC19 upregulation promoted glioma cell proliferation and metastasis, while CASC19­knockdown demonstrated the opposite effect. CASC19 sponged miR­454­3p, which indirectly increased RAB5A expression. The results demonstrated that the CASC19/miR­454­3p/RAB5A axis is involved in the promotion of glioma progression.

CXCL12 expression was significantly lower in tumor samples than in corresponding normal samples. CXCL12 expression was significantly positively related to the infiltration levels of T cells, dendritic cells (DCs), immature DCs, cytotoxic cells, Tfh cells, mast cells, B cells, Th1 cells, natural killer (NK) cells, pDCs, neutrophils, and T helper cells (Spearman correlation coefficient > 0.5, P < 0.001) and negatively correlated with the infiltration level of NK CD56bright cells. In addition, pancreatic hTERT-HPNE cells treated with three diverse CXCL12 isoforms exhibited changes mainly in the regulation of the epithelial-mesenchymal transition activation pathway.

Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) can develop in patients following exposure to multiple triggers, including blood pressure fluctuations, kidney diseases, immunosuppressive agents, chemotherapy, or autoimmune disorders. However, to the best of our knowledge, the development of PRES secondary to food poisoning has not been previously reported, especially in a pediatric patient. Here, we report a 13-year-old boy who presented with PRES following the consumption of palmatum (a chicken feet dish). The patient presented with headache, vomiting, and altered consciousness. Neuroimaging findings revealed white matter hyperintensities in a bilateral, symmetrical, and parieto-occipital pattern. The patient was diagnosed with PRES and was managed with fluid expansion and a short-term mannitol regimen (1 g/kg every 12 hours for 3 days). Neuroimaging findings returned to normal at 8 days after admission. Food poisoning may therefore be a new possible trigger for PRES. A timely PRES diagnosis is recommended to prevent possible central nervous system complications.
