RESUMO

The present study explored the potential role of cold-regulated plasma membrane protein COR413PM1 isolated from Saussurea involucrata (Matsum. & Koidz)(SikCOR413PM1), in enhancing cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) tolerance to cold and drought stresses through transgenic methods. Under cold and drought stresses, the survival rate and the fresh and dry weights of the SikCOR413PM1-overexpressing lines were higher than those of the wild-type plants, and the degree of leaf withering was much lower. Besides, overexpressing SikCOR413PM1 overexpression increased the relative water content, reduced malondialdehyde content and relative conductivity, and elevated proline and soluble sugar levels in cotton seedlings. These findings suggest that SikCOR413PM1 minimizes cell membrane damage and boosts plant stability under challenging conditions. Additionally, overexpression of this gene upregulated antioxidant enzyme-related genes in cotton seedlings, resulting in enhanced antioxidant enzyme activity, lowered peroxide content, and reduced oxidative stress. SikCOR413PM1 overexpression also modulated the expression of stress-related genes (GhDREB1A, GhDREB1B, GhDREB1C, GhERF2, GhNAC3, and GhRD22). In field trials, the transgenic cotton plants overexpressing SikCOR413PM1 displayed high yields and increased environmental tolerance. Our study thus demonstrates the role of SikCOR413PM1 in regulating stress-related genes, osmotic adjustment factors, and peroxide content while preserving cell membrane stability and improving cold and drought tolerance in cotton.

Objectives: Mental health problems among university students are a cause of widespread concern. Mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) delivered online have considerable potential to help university students manage mental health challenges. However, there is no consensus regarding the efficacy of online MBIs. This meta-analysis aims to determine whether MBIs are feasible and effective for improving university students' mental health. Methods: Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) in Web of Science, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase and the US National Library of Medicine (Clinical Trial Registry) published through August 31, 2022, were searched. Two reviewers selected the trials, conducted a critical appraisal, and extracted the data. Nine RCTs met our inclusion criteria. Results: This analysis showed that online MBIs were effective in improving depression (standardised mean difference [SMD] = -0.27; 95% confidence interval [CI], -0.48 to -0.07; P = 0.008), anxiety (SMD = -0.47; 95% CI, -080 to -0.14; P = 0.006), stress (SMD = -0.58; 95% CI, -0.79 to -0.37; P < 0.00001), and mindfulness (SMD = 0.71; 95% CI, 0.17 to 1.25; p = 0.009) in university students. No significant effect was found on wellbeing (SMD = 0.30; 95% CI, -0.00 to 0.60; P = 0.05). Conclusion: The findings indicated that online MBIs could effectively improve the mental health of university students. Nevertheless, additional rigorously designed RCTs are required. OBJECTIVE: Baduanjin exercise is a traditional Chinese mind-body exercise routine characterized by slow, coordinated, and sequential movements. We have performed the first meta-analysis on the main effect of Baduanjin exercise in patients with breast cancer. METHODS: This study followed the 2020 PRISMA guideline. We searched for randomized controlled trials in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Clinical Trials.gov, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Data Information Site, Chinese Biomedical Database, and Chinese Science and Technique Journals Database through 31 August 2022. Data were analyzed for the outcomes of quality of life, anxiety, and depression. Review Manager 5.4 software was used for data analysis. RESULTS: Seven randomized controlled trials with a total of 537 patients with breast cancer were examined. Compared with the control therapies, Baduanjin exercise significantly improved the total quality of life score (SMD = 0.83; 95 % CI, 0.58-1.08; P < 0.00001) and in two associated domains: emotional well-being (SMD = 0.67; 95 % CI, 0.26-1.07; P = 0.001), functional well-being (SMD = 0.55; 95 % CI, 0.30-0.79; P < 0.00001) and breast cancer subscale (SMD = 0.39; 95 % CI, 0.02-0.77; P = 0.04). Meanwhile, it significantly reduced anxiety score (SMD = - 0.60; 95 % CI, - 1.15 to - 0.05; P = 0.03) and in depression score (SMD = - 0.70 95 % CI, - 0.97 to - 0.42; P < 0.00001). None adverse event was reported. CONCLUSION: The meta-analysis suggests that Baduanjin exercise is an effective and safe exercise for improving quality of life and alleviating depression and anxiety in patients with breast cancer. Significant methodological concerns of the included studies limit the interpretation of the results. For future trials of Baduanjin exercise on BC, we highlight the importance of adopting more rigorous study design in terms of assessor blinding, hypothesis/purpose blinding, allocation concealment, objective outcome selection and consistent reporting of adverse events.

BACKGROUND: Norovirus is a contagious disease. The transmission of norovirus spreads quickly and easily in various ways. Because effective methods to prevent or treat norovirus have not been discovered, it is important to rapidly recognize and report norovirus outbreaks in the early phase. Internet search has been a useful method for people to access information immediately. With the precise record of internet search trends, internet search has been a useful tool to manifest infectious disease outbreaks. OBJECTIVE: In this study, we tried to discover the correlation between internet search terms and norovirus infection. METHODS: The internet search trend data of norovirus were obtained from Google Trends. We used cross-correlation analysis to discover the temporal correlation between norovirus and other terms. We also used multiple linear regression with the stepwise method to recognize the most important predictors of internet search trends and norovirus. In addition, we evaluated the temporal correlation between actual norovirus cases and internet search terms in New York, California, and the United States as a whole. RESULTS: Some Google search terms such as gastroenteritis, watery diarrhea, and stomach bug coincided with norovirus Google Trends. Some Google search terms such as contagious, travel, and party presented earlier than norovirus Google Trends. Some Google search terms such as dehydration, bar, and coronavirus presented several months later than norovirus Google Trends. We found that fever, gastroenteritis, poison, cruise, wedding, and watery diarrhea were important factors correlated with norovirus Google Trends. In actual norovirus cases from New York, California, and the United States as a whole, some Google search terms presented with, earlier, or later than actual norovirus cases. CONCLUSIONS: Our study provides novel strategy-based internet search evidence regarding the epidemiology of norovirus.

Mitotic arrest deficient-like-1 (MAD2, also known as MAD2L1) is thought to be an important spindle assembly checkpoint protein, which ensures accurate chromosome segregation and is closely associated with poor prognosis in many cancer. As a MAD2 binding protein, p31comet counteracts the function of MAD2 and leads to mitotic checkpoint silence. In this study, we explore the function of MAD2-p31comet axis in malignant glioma cells. Our results showed that disruption of MAD2-p31comet axis by MAD2 knockdown or p31comet overexpression suppressed cell proliferation, survival and migration of glioma, indicating that MAD2-p31comet axis is required for maintaining glioma cells malignancy. It is noted that MAD2 depletion or p31comet overexpression reduced the sensitivity of glioma cells to microtubule-interfering agents paclitaxel and vinblastine, providing clinical guidance for application of such drugs. Taken together, our findings suggest that MAD2-p31comet axis may serve as a potential therapeutic target for glioma.

AIM: To investigate the expression of STAT3, WWOX and c-myc in non small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) and their clinical significance, and study their relation ship. METHODS: Forty resected tissue samples from patients with NSCLC and twenty normal lung tissues were subjected to immunohistochemical staining(SP) for STAT3, WWOX and c-myc. RESULTS: (1)The positive expression rate of STAT3 and c-myc in NSCLC were 92.5% and 90% respectively, obviously higher than normal lung tissues (20% and 15%, P<0.01); The positive expression rate of WWOX was 30%, apparently lower than normal lung tissues(75%, P<0.01). (2) The expression levels of STAT3 and c-myc were related to pathologic types in NSCLC, which in adenocarcinomas were higher than squmous cell carcinomas (P<0.01), which were regardless with tumor size, histodifferentiation level, clinical stage and lymphatic metastasis; The expression of WWOX was ralated to whether lymph node metastasis in NSCLC(P<0.01).(3) There was a negativie correlation between the expressions of STAT3 and WWOX (r=-0.443, P<0.01); But no relationship was found between STAT3 and c-myc overexpression(r=-0.084) and between WWOX and c-myc overexpression(r=0.115). CONCLUSION: STAT3 and c-myc were overexpressed in human NSCLC. It indicated these proteins may make an important role in occurrence and development of lung cancer.The expressions of WWOX in human NSCLC was lower, which non expression was may related to the invision and metastasis of tumor. In the tumorigenesis of NSCLC, there is no relationship between expression of STAT3 and c-myc, They played independent roles in oncogenesis of NSCLC. There was a negativie correlation between the expressions of STAT3 and WWOX, but no relationship was found between WWOX and c-myc.
