RESUMO

Oncolytic viruses (OVs) represent an emerging immunotherapeutic strategy owing to their capacity for direct tumor lysis and induction of antitumor immunity. However, hurdles like transient persistence and moderate efficacy necessitate innovative approaches. Metabolic remodeling has recently gained prominence as a strategic intervention, wherein OVs or combination regimens could reprogram tumor and immune cell metabolism to enhance viral replication and oncolysis. In this review, we summarize recent advances in strategic reprogramming of tumor and immune cell metabolism to enhance OV-based immunotherapies. Specific tactics include engineering viruses to target glycolytic, glutaminolytic, and nucleotide synthesis pathways in cancer cells, boosting viral replication and tumor cell death. Additionally, rewiring T cell and NK cell metabolism of lipids, amino acids, and carbohydrates shows promise to enhance antitumor effects. Further insights are discussed to pave the way for the clinical implementation of metabolically enhanced oncolytic platforms, including balancing metabolic modulation to limit antiviral responses while promoting viral persistence and tumor clearance.

Background: Despite the potential of immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) as a promising treatment for Pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAAD), there is still a need to identify specific subgroups of PAAD patients who may benefit more from ICB. T cell-mediated tumor killing (TTK) is the primary concept behind ICB. We explored subtypes according to genes correlated with the sensitivity to TKK and unraveled their underlying associations for PAAD immunotherapies. Methods: Genes that control the responsiveness of T cell-induced tumor destruction (GSTTK) were examined in PAAD, focusing on their varying expression levels and association with survival results. Moreover, samples with PAAD were separated into two subsets using unsupervised clustering based on GSTTK. Variability was evident in the tumor immune microenvironment, genetic mutation, and response to immunotherapy among different groups. In the end, we developed TRGscore, an innovative scoring system, and investigated its clinical and predictive significance in determining sensitivity to immunotherapy. Results: Patients with PAAD were categorized into 2 clusters based on the expression of 52 GSTTKs, which showed varying levels and prognostic relevance, revealing unique TTK patterns. Survival outcome, immune cell infiltration, immunotherapy responses, and functional enrichment are also distinguished among the two clusters. Moreover, we found the CATSPER1 gene promotes the progression of PAAD through experiments. In addition, the TRGscore effectively predicted the responses to chemotherapeutics or immunotherapy in patients with PAAD and overall survival. Conclusions: TTK exerted a vital influence on the tumor immune environment in PAAD. A greater understanding of TIME characteristics was gained through the evaluation of the variations in TTK modes across different tumor types. It highlights variations in the performance of T cells in PAAD and provides direction for improved treatment approaches.

BACKGROUND: The abrupt onset of the COVID-19 pandemic compelled universities to swiftly establish online teaching and learning environments that were not only immediately deployable but also conducive to high-quality education. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of the online synchronous and asynchronous teaching formats in the dermatology lecture for undergraduate medical students, including academic performance, self-efficacy, and cognitive load. METHODS: A total of 170 fourth-year undergraduate medical students attending the dermatology lecture were included. The lecture was delivered using both the synchronous method (live online lecture via Webex meeting) and the asynchronous method (lecture videos shared on YouTube). The students had the freedom to choose their preferred method of attending the online lecture. The study assessed three main aspects: (1) learning outcomes measured through pretest, posttest, and retention test scores; (2) cognitive load experienced by students, including mental load and mental effort measured using eight items; and (3) satisfaction levels with each online teaching format. RESULTS: In this study, 70 students opted for the synchronous online lecture, while 100 students chose the asynchronous online lecture. Both synchronous and asynchronous teaching methods exhibited significant improvements in post and retention test scores compared to the pretest. Satisfaction levels, rated on a scale of 0-5, were generally high for both teaching methods, with no significant differences observed (4.6 for synchronous, 4.53 for asynchronous; p =.350). Regarding cognitive load, the synchronous method showed a significantly lower level than the asynchronous method (p =.0001). Subgroup analysis revealed no difference in mental effort (p =.0662), but the level of mental load was lower in the synchronous method (p =.0005). CONCLUSIONS: Both synchronous and asynchronous online teaching methods demonstrated improvements in learning outcomes and high levels of student satisfaction. However, the cognitive load experienced by students was lower in the synchronous setting compared to the asynchronous setting. These findings remind health professions educators that they would consider the students' cognitive load when designing online curricula.

Objective: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) poses a major global health burden. Early CKD risk prediction enables timely interventions, but conventional models have limited accuracy. Machine learning (ML) enhances prediction, but interpretability is needed to support clinical usage with both in diagnostic and decision-making. Methods: A cohort of 491 patients with clinical data was collected for this study. The dataset was randomly split into an 80% training set and a 20% testing set. To achieve the first objective, we developed four ML algorithms (logistic regression, random forests, neural networks, and eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost)) to classify patients into two classes-those who progressed to CKD stages 3-5 during follow-up (positive class) and those who did not (negative class). For the classification task, the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC-ROC) was used to evaluate model performance in discriminating between the two classes. For survival analysis, Cox proportional hazards regression (COX) and random survival forests (RSFs) were employed to predict CKD progression, and the concordance index (C-index) and integrated Brier score were used for model evaluation. Furthermore, variable importance, partial dependence plots, and restrict cubic splines were used to interpret the models' results. Results: XGBOOST demonstrated the best predictive performance for CKD progression in the classification task, with an AUC-ROC of 0.867 (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.728-0.100), outperforming the other ML algorithms. In survival analysis, RSF showed slightly better discrimination and calibration on the test set compared to COX, indicating better generalization to new data. Variable importance analysis identified estimated glomerular filtration rate, age, and creatinine as the most important predictors for CKD survival analysis. Further analysis revealed non-linear associations between age and CKD progression, suggesting higher risks in patients aged 52-55 and 65-66 years. The association between cholesterol levels and CKD progression was also non-linear, with lower risks observed when cholesterol levels were in the range of 5.8-6.4 mmol/L. Conclusions: Our study demonstrated the effectiveness of interpretable ML models for predicting CKD progression. The comparison between COX and RSF highlighted the advantages of ML in survival analysis, particularly in handling non-linearity and high-dimensional data. By leveraging interpretable ML for unraveling risk factor relationships, contrasting predictive techniques, and exposing non-linear associations, this study significantly advances CKD risk prediction to enable enhanced clinical decision-making.

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury is one of the most common types of sports injuries. People's need to participate in sports and desire for a high quality of life promotes the continuous development of ACL reconstruction technology. Arthroscopic ACL reconstruction has been recognized as an effective method for the treatment of ACL injuries. This review analyses and summarizes the advantages and limitations of each surgical procedure for arthroscopic ACL reconstruction reported in the relevant literature so as to promote the future development of more relevant techniques.

This study investigated the acute toxicity of fermented Platycodonis Radix on mice and its effect on coughing in mice infected with Mycoplasma pneumoniae. The maximum dosage(MAD) was used in the acute toxicity experiment on mice to observe the signs of mice. After 14 days, dissection, blood biochemical examination, and pathological tissue section observation were conducted. In the pharmacological experiment of fermented Platycodonis Radix, 60 healthy BALB/c mice, 30 males and 30 females, were randomly divided into a blank group, a model group, a carbetapentane group(0.013 g·kg~(-1)·d~(-1)), and high-, medium-, and low-dose fermented Platycodonis Radix groups(5.2, 2.6, and 1.3 g·kg~(-1)·d~(-1)), with 10 mice in each group. Except for the blank group, the mice in the other five groups underwent model induction by intranasally instilling 20 µL of 1×10~6 CCU M. pneumoniae for 3 days, and the mice in each group were orally administered the corresponding drugs for 7 days. Cough induction experiment was conducted to observe and record the cough latency and total cough count within 3 min for each group. Hematoxylin-eosin(HE) staining and Masson staining were used to observe the pathological changes in lung tissues. Immunohistochemistry was performed to observe the protein expression of transient receptor potential A1(TRPA1), calcitonin gene-related peptide(CGRP), and substance P(SP) in the lung tissues of mice in each group. Real-time fluorescence-based quantitative polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR) was used to elucidate the changes in the mRNA levels of cough-related factors TRPA1, CGRP, and SP in mice treated with fermented Platycodonis Radix. No mice died in the acute toxicity experiment, and there were no changes in general behavior and major organ histopathological examinations. Compared with the blank group, there were no statistically significant differences in blood biochemical indexes. In the pharmacological experiment of fermented Platycodonis Radix, compared with the model group, the high-and medium-dose fermented Platycodonis Radix groups showed improved lung tissue structure of mice, with clear structure and regular tissue morphology. The qRT-PCR and immunohistochemical detection showed a decrease in the expression of TRPA1, CGRP, and SP in the fermented Platycodonis Radix groups. Fermented Platycodonis Radix can exert an inhibitory effect on cough by suppressing the expression of TRPA1, CGRP, and SP in lung tissues, thereby identifying the target of the drug.

Background: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), although the most intractable subtype, is characterized by abundant immunogenicity, which enhances responsiveness to immunotherapeutic measures. Methods: First, we identified CD8+ T cell core genes (TRCG) based on single-cell sequence and traditional transcriptome sequencing and then used this data to develop a first-of-its-kind classification system based on CD8+ T cells in patients with TNBC. Next, TRCG-related patterns were systematically analyzed, and their correlation with genomic features, immune activity (microenvironment associated with immune infiltration), and clinicopathological characteristics were assessed in the Molecular Taxonomy of Breast Cancer International Consortium (METABRIC), the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), GSE103091, GSE96058 databases. Additionally, a CD8+ T cell-related prognostic signature (TRPS) was developed to quantify a patient-specific TRCG pattern. What's more, the genes-related TRPS was validated by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) experiment. Results: This study, for the first time, distinguished two subsets in patients with TNBC based on the TRCG. The immune microenvironment and prognostic stratification between these have distinct heterogeneity. Furthermore, this study constructed a novel scoring system named TRPS, which we show to be a robust prognostic marker for TNBC that is related to the intensity of immune infiltration and immunotherapy. Moreover, the levels of genes related the TRPS were validated by quantitative Real-Time PCR. Conclusions: Consequently, this study unraveled an association between the TRCG and the tumor microenvironment in TNBC. TRPS model represents an effective tool for survival prediction and treatment guidance in TNBC that can also help identify individual variations in TME and stratify patients who are sensitive to anticancer immunotherapy.

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is widely used to relieve symptoms of menopause with proven efficacy. However, there has been significant controversy surrounding the use of HRT because of its potential link with an increased risk of cancer, particularly female reproductive organ cancers. That HRT increases the risk of melanoma is also disputed, and several cohort studies have produced variable results. To delineate the association between HRT and melanoma in Taiwan, we conducted a population-based retrospective cohort study on 14 291 patients who had received HRT and 57 164 population controls in Taiwan between 2000 and 2013. Multivariate odds ratios (ORs) were calculated utilizing conditional logistic regression. Overall, the use of HRT was not significantly correlated with a higher risk of developing melanoma in Taiwan (95% confidence interval 0.386-1.099; p = 0.341). The hazard ratio analysis of melanoma and different HRTs showed there was no significant association between melanoma and the use of oral or external estrogens alone, including conjugated estrogens, estradiol, and estriol. Estrogen plus progesterone combined therapy was associated with a lower risk of melanoma. Only one case of melanoma was observed among the 2880 patients in this subgroup.

OBJECTIVE: The poor survival rate of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), one of the most prevalent human cancer, is attributed to frequent locoregional recurrence and lymph node metastases. Though it is reported that the expression of ALG-2 interacting protein X (ALIX) closely correlates with the progression of various tumors, its role in HNSCC remains unclear. The present study aims to investigate the role of ALIX in the development of HNSCC. DESIGN: With immunohistochemical staining, the expression levels of ALIX and series of related functional proteins were compared in normal mucosal (n = 18), HNSCC tissues (n = 54), and metastatic lymph nodes (n = 11). Further, the correlation analysis was performed among the proteins detected. By knocking down ALIX in HNSCC cell lines, the correlation of ALIX with the proteins was verified in vitro. The role of ALIX in proliferation, migration, and invasion of HNSCC cells was further studied by flow cytometry, wounding healing, and transwell assays, respectively. RESULTS: Higher expression level of ALIX was revealed in HNSCC samples, especially in metastatic lymph nodes, than in normal mucosal tissues. Accordingly, increasing levels of MMP9, MMP14, and VEGF-C were also discovered in metastatic lymph nodes and significantly correlated with the expression of ALIX. In vitro assays demonstrated that the knockdown of ALIX reduced both the transcriptional and protein levels of MMP9, MMP14, and VEGF-C, together with suppressed migration and weakened invasion of HNSCC cell lines. CONCLUSIONS: ALIX up-regulated the expression of MMP9, MMP14 and VEGF-C, and promoted migration and invasion of HNSCC cells.

Image recognition and neuroimaging are increasingly being used to understand the progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, image data from single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) are limited. Medical image analysis requires large, labeled training datasets. Therefore, studies have focused on overcoming this problem. In this study, the detection performance of five convolutional neural network (CNN) models (MobileNet V2 and NASNetMobile (lightweight models); VGG16, Inception V3, and ResNet (heavier weight models)) on medical images was compared to establish a classification model for epidemiological research. Brain scan image data were collected from 99 subjects, and 4711 images were used. Demographic data were compared using the chi-squared test and one-way analysis of variance with Bonferroni's post hoc test. Accuracy and loss functions were used to evaluate the performance of CNN models. The cognitive abilities screening instrument and mini mental state exam scores of subjects with a clinical dementia rating (CDR) of 2 were considerably lower than those of subjects with a CDR of 1 or 0.5. This study analyzed the classification performance of various CNN models for medical images and proved the effectiveness of transfer learning in identifying the mild cognitive impairment, mild AD, and moderate AD scoring based on SPECT images.

Background Previous population-based studies in western countries had revealed increased skin cancer risk among transplant recipients compared to the general population. However, population-based studies in Asia on skin cancer among recipients of different transplanted organs were lacking in the literature. Aims This study aims to estimate skin cancer risk among recipients in Taiwan, examine the association between each specific type of skin cancer and each type of transplanted organ, and compare skin cancer risk between different immunosuppressive regimens. Methods This population-based retrospective cohort study identified 7550 patients with heart, lung, kidney or liver transplantation and 30,200 controls matched for gender, age and comorbidity index from the National Health Insurance Research Database in Taiwan between 2000 and 2015. Using multivariable Cox proportional hazard models, we estimated the hazard ratios and 95% confidence intervals for the correlation of skin cancer with organ transplantation as well as immunosuppressive regimen. Results Organ transplant recipients in Taiwan had an increased risk of skin cancer with adjusted hazard ratios of 4.327 (95% confidence intervals 2.740-6.837, P < 0.001), with the greatest risk, observed among heart recipients (adjusted hazard ratios 6.348, 95% confidence intervals 3.080-13.088, P < 0.001). The risk of non-melanoma skin cancer and melanoma was 4.473 (95% confidence intervals 2.568-7.783, P < 0.001) and 3.324 (95% confidence intervals 1.300-8.172, P < 0.001), respectively. When comparing immunosuppressants, those with calcineurin inhibitors carried the highest risk of skin cancer (adjusted hazard ratios 4.789, 95% confidence intervals 3.033-7.569, P < 0.001), followed by those with antimetabolites (adjusted hazard ratios 4.771, 95% confidence intervals 3.025-7.541, P < 0.001). Limitations We could not evaluate confounding behavioural risk factors of skin cancers that were not documented in the database, nor could we recognize patients' compliance with immunosuppressants. Conclusion Organ recipients have a greater risk of skin cancer. Clinicians should inform recipients of the importance of photoprotection and regular dermatologic follow-up.

BACKGROUND: The impact of etiologies of acute fulminant myocarditis (AFM), which requires extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), on clinical outcomes remains unknown. This study aimed to investigate the risk factors for ECMO weaning and mortality among patients with AFM due to viral etiologies in a tertiary referral medical center. METHODS: We included 33 adults with AFM who received ECMO and were admitted between January 2002 and January 2021. General demographics, laboratory data, echocardiography findings, and long-term outcomes were analyzed for confirmed viral etiology and unconfirmed etiology groups. RESULTS: The overall hospital survival rate was 54.5%. The age, sex, severity of the hemodynamic condition, and cardiac rhythm were similar between the two groups. Multivariate Cox regression analysis revealed that a confirmed viral etiology (HR 4.201, 95% CI 1.061-16.666), peri-ECMO renal replacement therapy (RRT) (HR 9.804, 1.140-83.333) and a high positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) in the ventilator settings at 24 h after ECMO (HR 1.479, 1.020-2.143) were significant prognostic factors for in-hospital mortality. Peri-ECMO RRT was also a significant negative prognostic factor for successful ECMO weaning (OR 0.061, 0.006-0.600) in the multivariate logistic model. CONCLUSIONS: Among AFM patients receiving ECMO support, RRT use was associated with a decreased chance of survival to ECMO weaning. Multiple organ dysfunction and a high PEEP were also predictive of a lower chance of hospital survival. Those with a confirmed diagnosis of viral myocarditis may require more medical attention due to the higher risk of hospital mortality than those without a definite diagnosis.

Accumulated evidence indicates that immune cell populations play pivotal roles in the process of tumor initiation, progression, recurrence, metastasis, and immune escape. Ferroptosis is a form of regulating cell death in the nexus between metabolism, redox biology, and human health. Ferroptosis is considered as a vital important event in HNSCC, but the underling mechanism of regulating immune cell populations remains poorly understood. Our tissue microarray study showed that patients with high expression of GPX4 were related to poor survival. Moreover, the expression of GPX4 has been negatively associated with immunogenic cell death-related protein calreticulin in HNSCC tissue cohort. Further, RSL3 was used to induce ferroptosis in HNSCC xenograft of C3H/He mouse. We found that the occurrence of ferroptosis had significantly reduced the number of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) and tumor-associated M2-like macrophages (M2 TAMs) in tumor microenvironment. Meanwhile, the tumor-infiltrating CD4+ and CD8+ T cells were increased. And the calreticulin and HMGB1 may be potential candidate proteins improving the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. Taken together, our project suggests that ferroptosis can promote anti-tumor immune response by reversing immunosuppressive microenvironment, indicating that ferroptosis inducer is a promising therapeutic strategy in HNSCC.

Objective: We aimed to investigate the characteristics of nosocomial infections (NIs) and the impact of prophylactic antibiotic administration on NI outcomes in patients who underwent extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR). Methods: This retrospective study analyzed the rate, type, pathogens, outcomes, and risk factors of NIs that developed in adult patients who underwent ECPR at our institution between January 2002 and January 2022. Results: Among 105 patients (median age, 58.59 [interquartile range, 46.53-67.32] years), 57 (54.29%) patients developed NIs during their extracorporeal membrane oxygenation courses. The incidence rates per 1000 extracorporeal membrane oxygenation days were 135.91 for overall infections and 40.06 for multidrug-resistant (MDR) infections. Ventilator-associated pneumonia was the most common type of NI (73.68%), followed by bloodstream infections (17.89%). Prophylactic antibiotics with Pseudomonas aeruginosa coverage were protective factors against NI (hazard ratio [HR], 0.518; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.281-0.953; P = .034). High dynamic driving pressure of the ventilator (cmH2O) was a prognostic factor for hospital mortality (HR, 1.096; 95% CI, 1.008-1.192; P = .032). An Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II score of ≥24 (HR, 6.443; 95% CI, 1.380-30.088; P = .018) was a risk factor for developing MDR infections. Conclusions: In patients who undergo ECPR, prophylactic antibiotic treatment with P aeruginosa coverage is associated with a lower incidence of NIs, whereas an Aeruginosa Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II score of ≥24 is a risk factor for MDR infections. In the modern era of antibiotic therapy, the development of NIs does not increase hospital mortality among patients undergoing ECPR.

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic impacted medical education worldwide. Online lecture is increasingly prevalent in higher education, but students' completion rate is quite low. Aims: This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the student response system (SRS) in the online dermatologic video curriculum on medical students. Methods: A prospective study was conducted on 176 undergraduate fourth-year medical students. The online video lecture was integrated with SRS. Results: A total of 173 students completed the pre-test, and the attendance rate (pre-test/total) was 98.3%. A total of 142 students completed the post-test, and the completion rate (post-test/pre-test) was 82.8%. The post-test score (83.69 ± 4.34) was found to be significantly higher than that of the pre-test (62.69 ± 6.08, P =0.0002). A total of 138 students completed the questionnaire, and 92% of students opined that SRS was easy to operate. 86% of students agreed with the fact that the use of SRS could increase their learning performance by interacting with teachers. In the open-ended question, students stated that SRS offered opportunities for student-faculty interaction, allowed them to get immediate feedback, and promote active participation. Conclusions: These results highlight that the integration of SRS in the online video curriculum increases students' completion rates and learning outcomes. Moreover, the SRS is easy to operate for the students and enhances student-faculty interaction. The SRS may be adopted in online learning during this challenging time.

Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor (DPP4i) is a widely used antidiabetic agent. Emerging cases of DPP4i-associated bullous pemphigoid (DBP), whose pathogenesis remains unclear, have been reported. Thus, a retrospective study was conducted from January 2016 to June 2021 to determine the clinical, laboratory, and histopathological features of DBP and idiopathic bullous pemphigoid (IBP). We set up in vitro experiments using vildagliptin-treated HaCaT keratinocytes to validate what we found by analyzing published RNA sequencing data about the genes related to the dermal-epidermal junction. We also observed IL-6 expression by HaCaT cells treated with vildagliptin. We enrolled 20 patients with DBP and 40 patients with IBP. The total Bullous Pemphigoid Disease Area Index (BPDAI) score was similar in both groups. However, the BPDAI score of erosions and blisters in DBP was significantly higher than that in IBP (24.6 vs. 16.68, p = 0.0189), and the score for urticaria and erythema was lower in DBP (12 vs. 19.05, p = 0.0183). The pathological features showed that the mean infiltrating eosinophil number per high-power field was significantly lower in DBP than in IBP (16.7 vs. 27.08, p = 0.023). The expression of LAMA3, LAMB3, LAMC2, DST, and COL17A1 decreased significantly in vildagliptin-treated human keratinocytes. On the other hand, IL-6, the hallmark cytokine of bullous pemphigoid (BP) severity, was found to be upregulated in HaCaT cells by vildagliptin. These experimental findings imply less of a requirement for eosinophil infiltration to drive the inflammatory cascades in DBP blistering. Both immunologic and non-immunologic pathways could be employed for the development of DBP. Our findings may help explain the higher incidence of non-inflammatory BP that was observed in DBP.

BACKGROUND: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant is highly transmissible with potential immune escape. Hence, control measures are continuously being optimized to guard against large-scale coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreaks. This study aimed to explore the relationship between the intensity of control measures in response to different SARS-CoV-2 variants and the degree of outbreak control at city level. METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted in 49 cities with COVID-19 outbreaks between January 2020 and June 2022. Epidemiological data on COVID-19 were extracted from the National Health Commission, People's Republic of China, and the population flow data were sourced from the Baidu migration data provided by the Baidu platform. Outbreak control was quantified by calculating the degree of infection growth and the time-varying reproduction number ([Formula: see text]). The intensity of the outbreak response was quantified by calculating the reduction in population mobility during the outbreak period. Correlation and regression analyses of the intensity of the control measures and the degree of outbreak control for the Omicron variant and non-Omicron mutants were conducted, respectively. RESULTS: Overall, 65 outbreaks occurred in 49 cities in China from January 2020 to June 2022. Of them, 66.2% were Omicron outbreaks and 33.8% were non-Omicron outbreaks. The intensity of the control measures was positively correlated with the degree of outbreak control (r = 0.351, P = 0.03). The degree of reduction in population mobility was negatively correlated with the Rt value (r = - 0.612, P < 0.01). Therefore, under the same control measure intensity, the number of new daily Omicron infections was 6.04 times higher than those attributed to non-Omicron variants, and the Rt value of Omicron outbreaks was 2.6 times higher than that of non-Omicron variants. In addition, the duration of non-Omicron variant outbreaks was shorter than that of the outbreaks caused by the Omicron variant (23.0 ± 10.7, 32.9 ± 16.3, t = 2.243, P = 0.031). CONCLUSIONS: Greater intensity of control measures was associated with more effective outbreak control. Thus, in response to the Omicron variant, the management to restrict population movement should be used to control its spread quickly, especially in the case of community transmission occurs widely. Faster than is needed for non-Omicron variants, and decisive control measures should be imposed and dynamically adjusted in accordance with the evolving epidemic situation.
