RESUMO

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the most common kidney cancer with high mortality rate. Pazopanib has been approved for the treatment of RCC. However, the underlying mechanism is not clear. Here, we report a novel finding by showing that treatment with Pazopanib could promote cellular senescence of the human RCC cell line ACHN. Cells were stimulated with 5, 10, and 20 µM Pazopanib, respectively. Cellular senescence was measured using senescence-associated ß-galactosidase (SA-ß-Gal) staining. Western blot analysis and real-time polymerase chain reaction were used to measure the mRNA and protein expression of nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), γH2AX, human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT), telomeric repeat binding factor 2 (TERF2), p53 and plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI). First, we found that exposure to Pazopanib reduced the cell viability of ACHN cells. Additionally, Pazopanib induced oxidative stress  by increasing the production of reactive oxygen species, reducing the levels of glutathione peroxidase, and promoting nuclear translocation of Nrf2. Interestingly, Pazopanib exposure resulted in DNA damage by increasing the expression of γH2AX. Importantly, Pazopanib increased cellular senescence and reduced telomerase activity. Pazopanib also reduced the gene expression of hTERT but increased the gene expression of TERF2. Correspondingly, we found that Pazopanib increased the expression of p53 and PAI at both the mRNA and protein levels. To elucidate the underlying mechanism, the expression of Nrf2 was knocked down by transduction with Ad- Nrf2 shRNA. Results indicate that silencing of Nrf2 in ACHN cells abolished the effects of Pazopanib in stimulating cellular senescence and reducing telomerase activity. Consistently, knockdown of Nrf2 restored the expression of p53 and PAI in ACHN cells. Based on these results, we explored a novel mechanism whereby which Pazopanib displays a cytotoxicity effect in RCC cells through promoting cellular senescence mediated by Nrf2.

RESUMO

The biogenesis of outer membrane proteins is mediated by the ß-barrel assembly machinery (BAM), which is a heteropentomeric complex composed of five proteins named BamA-E in Escherichia coli. Despite great progress in the BAM structural analysis, the molecular details of BAM-mediated processes as well as the exact function of each BAM component during OMP assembly are still not fully understood. To enable a distinguishment of the function of each BAM component, it is the aim of the present work to examine and identify the effective minimum form of the E. coli BAM complex by use of a well-defined reconstitution strategy based on a previously developed versatile assay. Our data demonstrate that BamADE is the core BAM component and constitutes a minimum functional form for OMP assembly in E. coli, which can be stimulated by BamB and BamC. While BamB and BamC have a redundant function based on the minimum form, both together seem to cooperate with each other to substitute for the function of the missing BamD or BamE. Moreover, the BamAE470K mutant also requires the function of BamD and BamE to assemble OMPs in vitro, which vice verse suggests that BamADE are the effective minimum functional form of the E. coli BAM complex.

RESUMO

The topological photonics plays an important role in the fields of fundamental physics and photonic devices. The traditional method of designing topological system is based on the momentum space, which is not a direct and convenient way to grasp the topological properties, especially for the perturbative structures or coupled systems. Here, we propose an interdisciplinary approach to study the topological systems in real space through combining the information entropy and topological photonics. As a proof of concept, the Kagome model has been analyzed with information entropy. We reveal that the bandgap closing does not correspond to the topological edge state disappearing. This method can be used to identify the topological phase conveniently and directly, even the systems with perturbations or couplings. As a promotional validation, Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model and the valley-Hall photonic crystal have also been studied based on the information entropy method. This work provides a method to study topological photonic phase based on information theory, and brings inspiration to analyze the physical properties by taking advantage of interdisciplinarity.

RESUMO

SARS-CoV-2 infection-induced hyper-inflammation is a key pathogenic factor of COVID-19. Our research, along with others', has demonstrated that mast cells (MCs) play a vital role in the initiation of hyper-inflammation caused by SARS-CoV-2. In previous study, we observed that SARS-CoV-2 infection induced the accumulation of MCs in the peri-bronchus and bronchioalveolar-duct junction in humanized mice. Additionally, we found that MC degranulation triggered by the spike protein resulted in inflammation in alveolar epithelial cells and capillary endothelial cells, leading to subsequent lung injury. The trachea and bronchus are the routes for SARS-CoV-2 transmission after virus inhalation, and inflammation in these regions could promote viral spread. MCs are widely distributed throughout the respiratory tract. Thus, in this study, we investigated the role of MCs and their degranulation in the development of inflammation in tracheal-bronchial epithelium. Histological analyses showed the accumulation and degranulation of MCs in the peri-trachea of humanized mice infected with SARS-CoV-2. MC degranulation caused lesions in trachea, and the formation of papillary hyperplasia was observed. Through transcriptome analysis in bronchial epithelial cells, we found that MC degranulation significantly altered multiple cellular signaling, particularly, leading to upregulated immune responses and inflammation. The administration of ebastine or loratadine effectively suppressed the induction of inflammatory factors in bronchial epithelial cells and alleviated tracheal injury in mice. Taken together, our findings confirm the essential role of MC degranulation in SARS-CoV-2-induced hyper-inflammation and the subsequent tissue lesions. Furthermore, our results support the use of ebastine or loratadine to inhibit SARS-CoV-2-triggered degranulation, thereby preventing tissue damage caused by hyper-inflammation.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: We aimed to determine the prognostic value of α-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase (α-HBDH) in upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) patients after radical nephroureterectomy (RNU). MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively enrolled the data of 544 UTUC patients at West China Hospital from May 2003 to June 2019. Cancer-specific survival (CSS) was the endpoint of interest. The optimal cutoff value of α-HBDH was identified by X-Tile program. After propensity score matching (PSM), we utilized Kaplan‒Meier curves to estimate survival and Cox proportional hazard model for risk assessment. A nomogram was built based on the results of multivariate analysis, and calibration curve, time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and decision curve analysis were also performed to evaluate the predictive accuracy. RESULTS: Overall, 394 and 150 patients were divided into the α-HBDH-low group and α-HBDH -high group at the cutoff value of 158 U/L, respectively. After PSM, the two groups were well matched for all confounding factors. High α-HBDH was associated with inferior CSS (P = 0.006), and preoperative α-HBDH was an independent predictor for CSS (HR: 1.36; 95% CI:1.08, 1.80), especially in localized UTUC patients (HR: 2.04; 95% CI:1.11, 3.74). Furthermore, the nomogram based on α-HBDH achieved great predictive ability for CSS with areas under the curves of 0.800 and 0.778 for 3-year and 5-year CSS, respectively. CONCLUSION: Serum α-HBDH was a novel and reliable biomarker for predicting survival outcomes in UTUC patients after RNU but should be further explored.

RESUMO

Background: To investigate the prognostic significance of systemic inflammation score (SIS) in upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) in patients undergoing radical nephroureterectomy (RNU). Methods: A total of 313 UTUC patients who underwent RNU at West China Hospital from May 2014 to June 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. The predictive value of SIS for relevant endpoints, including overall survival (OS), cancer-specific survival (CSS), and progression-free survival (PFS), was assessed by Kaplan-Meier curves and the Cox proportional hazards model. Results: According to inclusion and exclusion criteria, 218 UTUC patients were ultimately included in this cohort study. Statistical analysis shows that increased SIS was significantly associated with higher TNM stage (p = 0.017), lower BMI (p = 0.037), absence of hemoglobin (p < 0.001), and pathologic necrosis (p = 0.007). Kaplan-Meier survival curves clearly visually stratified survival for the three outcomes. After adjusting for tumor grade, the multivariate Cox proportional hazards model results showed that SIS was an independent risk factor for poor OS and CSS (HR = 1.89, 95% CI: 1.11-3.21, p = 0.0183, HR = 1.89, 95% CI: 1.07-3.33, p = 0.0285) in the advanced group. Conclusions: SIS was an independent risk factor for OS and CSS after RNU in patients with high-grade UTUC. It may be a novel and conducive tool for preoperative risk stratification and guiding individualized therapy for high-risk UTUC patients.

RESUMO

To address the challenges of handling imprecise building boundary information and reducing false-positive outcomes during the process of detecting building changes in remote sensing images, this paper proposes a Siamese transformer architecture based on a difference module. This method introduces a layered transformer to provide global context modeling capability and multiscale features to better process building boundary information, and a difference module is used to better obtain the difference features of a building before and after a change. The difference features before and after the change are then fused, and the fused difference features are used to generate a change map, which reduces the false-positive problem to a certain extent. Experiments were conducted on two publicly available building change detection datasets, LEVIR-CD and WHU-CD. The F1 scores for LEVIR-CD and WHU-CD reached 89.58% and 84.51%, respectively. The experimental results demonstrate that when utilized for building change detection in remote sensing images, the proposed method exhibits improved robustness and detection performance. Additionally, this method serves as a valuable technical reference for the identification of building damage in remote sensing images.

RESUMO

Enantiomeric excess (ee) is an essential indicator of chiral drug purification in the pharmaceutical industry. However, to date the ee determination of unknown concentration enantiomers generally involves two separate techniques for chirality and concentration measurement. Here, a whispering-gallery mode (WGM) based optofluidic microlaser near exceptional point to achieve the ee determination under unknown concentration with a single technique is proposed. Exceptional point induces the unidirectional WGM lasing, providing the optofluidic microlaser with the novel capability to measure chirality by polarization, in addition to wavelength-based concentration detection. The dual-parameters detection of optofluidic microlaser empowers it to achieve ee determination of various unknown enantiomers without additional concentration measurements, a feat that is challenging to accomplish with other methods. Featuring the sensitivity enhancement and miniature structure of the WGM sensors, the obtained chiroptical response of the present approach is ≈30-fold higher than that of the conventional optical rotation-based polarimeter, and the reagent consumption is reduced by three orders of magnitude.

RESUMO

This study aims to determine the prognostic value of preoperative Naples prognostic score (NPS) on survival outcomes in upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) patients after radical nephroureterectomy (RNU). We conducted a retrospective study about UTUC patients at West China Hospital from January 2015 to June 2019. The X-Tile program was used to identify the optimal cutoff value of NPS. Overall survival (OS), cancer-specific survival (CSS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were the endpoints of interest. Kaplan-Meier curves were used to estimate survival and Cox proportional hazard model was used for risk assessment. A total of 237 UTUC patients after RNU were identified and the threshold of NPS was determined to be 2. Preoperative high-NPS was associated with inferior OS (p = 0.004), CSS (p = 0.002) and PFS (p = 0.008), especially in locally advanced UTUC patients. Preoperative NPS was an independent predictor for OS (HR: 1.78; 95% CI: 1.08, 2.93), CSS (HR: 1.87; 95% CI: 1.11, 3.14) and PFS (HR: 1.60; 95% CI: 1.02, 2.50). The addition of NPS into the predictive model consisting of predictors from multivariate Cox regression resulted in better prediction performance. Preoperative NPS was a novel and reliable predictor for survival in UTUC patients after RNU, and should be further explored.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the prognostic impact of variant histology (VH) on survival outcomes in upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) patients after radical nephroureterectomy (RNU). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Data from 635 UTUC patients who underwent RNU at our institution from May 2003 to June 2019 were retrospectively acquired and analyzed. After propensity score matching (PSM), we investigated the impact of VH on overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) by using cumulative incidence plots with the log-rank test, Cox regression models, and competing risk regression models. RESULTS: Overall, 121 (19.1%) patients were diagnosed with VH, including 68 (10.7%) with squamous cell differentiation (SCD) and 28 (4.4%) with adenocarcinoma differentiation (AD). After PSM, the presence of VH was significantly associated with worse OS (HR 1.70, 95% CI 1.25-2.32) and CSS (HR 1.64, 95% CI 1.17-2.31) only in locally advanced UTUC patients (pT>2). In the subgroup analysis, SCD revealed inferior outcomes (OS: HR 1.81, 95% CI 1.28-2.57; CSS: HR 1.73, 95% CI 1.18-2.54) compared with pure urothelial carcinoma (pUC), whereas AD conferred comparable outcomes. In addition, compared with pUC patients, SCD patients with extensive squamous components had significantly decreased OS (HR 4.17, 95% CI 1.84-9.44) and CSS (HR 1.10, 95% CI 0.61-1.99), whereas those with regional squamous components had similar survival outcomes. CONCLUSION: For UTUC patients after RNU, the presence of VH is associated with aggressive clinicopathological features and inferior survival outcomes. However, the survival outcomes of localized UTUC patients (pT≤2) with VH, and patients with the AD or regional SCD subtype are comparable to those of patients with pUC.

RESUMO

Nonreciprocal interlayer coupling is difficult to practically implement in bilayer non-Hermitian topological photonic systems. In this work, we identify a similarity transformation between the Hamiltonians of systems with nonreciprocal interlayer coupling and on-site gain/loss. The similarity transformation is widely applicable, and we show its application in one- and two-dimensional bilayer topological systems as examples. The bilayer non-Hermitian system with nonreciprocal interlayer coupling, whose topological number can be defined using the gauge-smoothed Wilson loop, is topologically equivalent to the bilayer system with on-site gain/loss. We also show that the topological number of bilayer non-Hermitian C6v-typed domain-induced topological interface states can be defined in the same way as in the case of the bilayer non-Hermitian Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model. Our results show the relations between two microscopic provenances of the non-Hermiticity and provide a universal and convenient scheme for constructing and studying nonreciprocal interlayer coupling in bilayer non-Hermitian topological systems. This scheme is useful for observation of non-Hermitian skin effect in three-dimensional systems.

RESUMO

Introduction: The advent of bigdata era fundamentally transformed the nature of medical information seeking and the traditional binary medical relationship. Weaving stress coping theory and information processing theory, we developed an integrative perspective on information seeking behavior and explored the antecedent and consequence of such behavior. Methods: Data were collected from 573 women suffering from infertility who was seeking assisted reproductive technology treatment in China. We used AMOS 22.0 and the PROCESS macro in SPSS 25.0 software to test our model. Results: Our findings demonstrated that patients' satisfaction with information received from the physicians negatively predicted their behavior involvement in information seeking, such behavior positively related to their perceived information overload, and the latter negatively related to patient-physician relationship quality. Further findings showed that medical information seeking behavior and perceived information overload would serially mediate the impacts of satisfaction with information received from physicians on patient-physician relationship quality. Discussion: This study extends knowledge of information seeking behavior by proposing an integrative model and expands the application of stress coping theory and information processing theory. Additionally, it provides valuable implications for patients, physicians and public health information service providers.

RESUMO

Layered cathode materials for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have gained considerable attention as promising candidates owing to their high capacity and potential for industrial scalability. Nonetheless, challenges arise from stress and structural degradation resulting from the deposition of larger ion radius species, leading to diminished cyclic stability and rate performance. In this study, we present a novel and straightforward strategy that combines the synergistic effects of an amorphous aluminum oxide coating and aluminum ion doping. This approach effectively addresses the issues of grain cracking and expands the interlayer spacing of alkali metal ions in SIB materials, thereby enhancing their overall performance. Consequently, it optimizes the diffusion of charge carriers and facilitates interfacial charge transfer, leading to remarkable improvements in the performance of the NaNi0.33Mn0.33Fe0.33O2 material with 0.4 wt % amorphous aluminum oxide coating (NNMF-0.4A), which exhibits reversible capacities of 135.7, 114.3, 106.8, 99.9, 89.5, and 77.1 mAh g-1 at 0.1, 0.5, 1, 2, 5, and 10 C, respectively. Furthermore, the NNMF-0.4A material maintains a capacity of 76.7 mA g-1 after 500 cycles at a current density of 800 mA g-1 (10 C), with a capacity retention rate of 98.2%. Our findings present a groundbreaking pathway for modifying high-power sodium-ion battery cathode materials, contributing to the advancement of sustainable energy storage technologies.

RESUMO

The aluminum industry is facing severe economic and environmental problems due to increasing carbon emissions and growing stockpiles of red mud (RM). RM is a strongly alkaline, high-emission solid waste from the alumina industry with potential for CO2 sequestration. However, the effectiveness of RM carbon sequestration is poor, and the mechanism behind it is not well understood. In this study, the effect of microwave and tube furnace activation of RM on CO2 sequestration in alumina was first investigated at different temperatures. The result showed that the CO2 sequestration capacity of unmodified RM (URM) was only 14.35 mg/g at ambient temperature and pressure, and the CO2 sequestration capacity could be increased to 52.89 mg/g after high-temperature activation and modification. Besides, high-temperature activation and modification will effectively improve the carbon sequestration capacity of RM. The carbonized RM was characterized by FT-IR, SEM, XRD, laser particle size, TG-DSC, and pH measurements. In addition, the mechanism of RM capturing CO2 was also proposed, which shows that CO2 was finally sequestered in the RM as CaCO3. The change in particle size distribution and the mineral phase in the RM indicated that high-temperature activation modification positively affects the application of RM to the sequestration of CO2. This study can provide a promising technology for the low-carbon and green development of the aluminum industry, as well as achieving the waste treatment and utilization objective.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: TP53 mutation heterogeneity should be considered when using TP53 as a predictive biomarker for anti-programmed death (ligand) 1 (PD-(L)1) monotherapy in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). However, whether TP53 variant allele frequency (VAF) should also be considered remains unknown. METHODS: Patients with LUAD from both published research and the local cohort were included to discover and validate the relationship between TP53 VAF and the efficacy of PD-(L)1 inhibitors. The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) LUAD data were included for genomic, transcriptomic, and tumor microenvironment analysis. RESULTS: Among 159 patients in the discovery cohort, low TP53 VAF patients (VAF ≤ 25%) experienced significantly longer progression-free survival (PFS) than both high TP53 VAF (5.4 vs. 3.3 months; p = .021) and TP53-wild-type patients (5.4 vs. 2.5 months; p = .011). Multivariate Cox regression revealed low TP53 VAF as an independent biomarker of better efficacy. Among 50 patients in the combined validation cohort, median PFS of low TP53 VAF patients was also significantly longer than that of high TP53 VAF patients (12.0 vs. 2.1 months; p = .037). Analyzed with 469 TCGA LUAD samples, low TP53 VAF is associated with significantly higher PD-L1 expression, enrichment of gene sets related to T-cell activation, T cell-mediated immunity, and interferon-γ signaling pathways, and independently associated with more tumor-infiltrating CD8+ T cells compared with both high TP53 VAF and TP53-wild type. CONCLUSIONS: TP53 VAF should also be considered when using TP53 as a predictive biomarker. Only low TP53 VAF is independently associated with better efficacy of anti-PD-(L)1 monotherapy, which may result from higher PD-L1 expression and more tumor-infiltrating CD8+ T cells.

RESUMO

The non-Newtonian fluid-solid interaction food has complex physical properties and complicated contact force, which brings the greater technical challenge to improving the food fetching rate. In this work, we used the smooth particle hydrodynamics and finite element coupling method for a node-to-surface penalty function contact to characterize the contact forces between non-Newtonian fluid food and solid foods. The shear rheological properties and density of non-Newtonian fluid food, including xanthan gum (XG) and guar gum (GG), were investigated by a viscometer and densitometer, respectively. The results showed that the shear viscosity of non-Newtonian fluid food depends to some extent on the mass ratio of the thickening gums. We investigated the effects of the end-effector with different fetching velocities and different inclination angles, and the nut root powder paste (NRPP) food with different ratios of XG and GG, on the fetching rate, stress-strain, and motion behavior. The results showed that the stress increased with increasing v1 and w; however, the v2 had less effect on the stress. The sparseness of the distribution of solid food was related to the v1 and w, whereas it was less influenced by the v2 . The distribution of solid food became denser in the X-Z plane and sparser in the X-Y plane with increasing inclination angle. The motion behavior of viscoelastic solid foods depended on the mass ratio of XG to GG dissolved in NRPP. The present work can provide a theoretical foundation for meal-assisting robots and robots in the field of food engineering with the task of improving the food fetching rate.

RESUMO

Background: Alkaloids are the second primary class of secondary metabolites (SMs) from marine organisms, most of which have antioxidant, antitumor, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and other activities. However, the SMs obtained by traditional isolation strategies have drawbacks such as highly reduplication and weak bioactivity. Therefore, it is significantly important to establish an efficient strategy for screening strains and mining novel compounds. Methods: In this study, we utilized in situ colony assay combined with liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) to identify the strain with high potential in alkaloids production. The strain was identified by genetic marker genes and morphological analysis. The secondary metabolites from the strain were isolated by the combine use of vacuum liquid chromatography (VLC), ODS column chromatography, and Sephadex LH-20. Their structures were elucidated by 1D/2D NMR, HR-ESI-MS, and other spectroscopic technologies. Finally, these compounds bioactivity were assay, including anti-inflammatory and anti-ß aggregation. Results: Eighteen marine fungi were preliminarily screened for alkaloids production by in situ colony assay using Dragendorff reagent as dye, and nine of them turned orange, which indicated abundant alkaloids. By thin-layer chromatography (TLC), LC-MS/MS, and multiple approaches assisted Feature-Based Molecular Networking (FBMN) analysis of fermentation extracts, a strain ACD-5 (Penicillium mallochii with GenBank accession number OM368350) from sea cucumber gut was selected for its diverse alkaloids profiles especially azaphilones. In bioassays, the crude extracts of ACD-5 in Czapek-dox broth and brown rice medium showed moderate antioxidant, acetylcholinesterase inhibitory, anti-neuroinflammatory, and anti-ß aggregation activities. Three chlorinated azaphilone alkaloids, compounds 1-3 (sclerotioramine, isochromophilone VI, and isochromophilone IX, respectively), were isolated from the fermentation products of ACD-5 in brown rice medium guided by bioactivities and mass spectrometry analysis. Compound 1 had shown remarkable anti-neuroinflammatory activity in liposaccharide induced BV-2 cells. Conclusion: In summary, in situ colony screening together with LC-MS/MS, multi-approach assisted FBMN can act as an efficient screening method for strains with potential in alkaloids production.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: There are limited reports on nanoparticle albumin bound-paclitaxel (nab-paclitaxel) regimens as second- or third-line treatments for advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Additionally, its safety and efficacy in ESCC patients after failure of first-line programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) blockade plus chemotherapy have not been reported. In this study, we aimed to assess the efficacy and tolerability of nab-paclitaxel regimens as second- or later-line treatment in advanced ESCC. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed clinical data of advanced ESCC patients who participated in a randomized phase III clinical study and received serplulimab or placebo plus chemotherapy at our institution, and consecutive patients who received subsequent nab-paclitaxel-based regimens as second- or later-line treatment were included for data collection and analysis. RESULTS: A total of 39 patients were included, 25 (64.1%) received serplulimab plus chemotherapy and 14 (35.9%) received chemotherapy alone as first-line treatment. Treatment strategies included nab-paclitaxel monotherapy (7/39, 17.9%), or in combination with other chemotherapy (19/39, 48.7%), with anti-PD-1 antibodies (12/39, 30.8%) or with nimotuzumab (1/39, 2.6%). Overall, the objective response rate (ORR) and disease control rate (DCR) were 33.3% (13/39) and 61.5% (24/39), respectively. With a median follow-up of 9.7 months, the median progression-free survival and median overall survival were 5.0 and 7.9 months, respectively. The most common adverse events were neuropathy peripheral (30.8%), anemia (30.8%), neutrophil count decreased (23.1%), and nausea (20.5%). CONCLUSIONS: Nab-paclitaxel-based regimen could be a safe and effective option as second- or later-line treatment in patients with advanced ESCC, regardless of their previous exposure to PD-1 inhibitors.

RESUMO

The on-chip integrated visible microlaser is a core unit of high-speed visible-light communication with huge bandwidth resources, which needs robustness against fabrication errors, compressible linewidth, reducible threshold, and in-plane emission. However, until now, it has been a great challenge to meet these requirements simultaneously. Here, we report a scalable strategy to realize a robust on-chip integrated visible microlaser with further improved lasing performances enabled by the increased orders (n) of exceptional surfaces, and experimentally verify the strategy by demonstrating the performances of a second-order exceptional surface-tailored microlaser. We further prove the potential application of the strategy by discussing an exceptional surface-tailored topological microlaser with unique performances. This work lays a foundation for further development of on-chip integrated high-speed visible-light communication and processing systems, provides a platform for the fundamental study of non-Hermitian photonics, and proposes a feasible method of joint research for non-Hermitian photonics with nonlinear optics and topological photonics.
