OBJECTIVES: The prevalence of the co-occurrence of depressive and anxious symptoms (CO) and their influence on perceived overall health were not clear in community dwelling Chinese older adults. The aims of the study were to investigate the prevalence of CO and to explore its influence on self-rated health (SRH). METHOD: This study included 12301 individuals aged ≥65 years from the 2018 wave of the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS), a nationally representative survey of older adults in mainland China. Participants received face-to-face interviews and assessments of depressive symptoms and anxious symptoms via 10-item of the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D-10) and 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder Questionnaire (GAD-7), respectively. SRH was measured by self-reported. A logistic regression model was used to examine the association between CO and SRH after adjusting for confounding variables. RESULTS: The average age was 83.4 (SD: 11.0) years and there were 6576 (53.5%) females. The age- and sex-standardized prevalence of depressive symptoms only (DSO) was 38.6%, anxious symptoms only (ASO) was 1.5%, and CO was 10.8%. Compared with those without depressive and anxious symptoms, the older adults with DSO or ASO were more likely to have significant influence on SRH. And particularly, CO was likely to produce the greatest decrement in the level of SRH. CONCLUSION: CO was not rare in Chinese older adults nationwide. The older adults having CO had increased risk for lower level of SRH than having DSO or ASO. More attention should be given to CO among the older adults.

The MC4-2 bacterium strain was isolated and purified from the Periplaneta americana intestine as a biocontrol agent with good antagonistic effect against the pathogens of a soil-borne disease called tobacco black shank. The MC4-2 strain was found to have good broad-spectrum inhibition by plate stand-off test. Based on 16S rRNA and gyrB genes, ANI analysis, and other comparative genomics methods, it was determined that the MC4-2 strain was Bacillus subtilis. The complete genome sequence showed that the genome size was 4,076,630 bp, the average GC content was 43.78%, and the total number of CDSs was 4,207. Genomic prediction analysis revealed that a total of 145 genes were annotated by the CAZy, containing mainly GH and CE enzymes that break down carbohydrates such as glucose, chitin, starch, and alginate, and a large number of enzymes involved in glycosylation were present. A total of ten secondary metabolite clusters were predicted, six clusters of which were annotated as surfactin, bacillaene, fengycin, bacillibactin, subtilosin A, and bacilysin. The present investigation found the biological control mechanism of B. subtilis MC4-2, which provides a strong theoretical basis for the best use of this strain in biological control methods and provides a reference for the subsequent development of agents of this bacterium.

RESUMO

Although the clinical manifestations of membranous supravalvular aortic stenosis (SVAS) are distinctive, its diagnosis remains challenging. Failure to initiate surgical treatment in a timely manner greatly increases the risk of sudden cardiac death. We report a case of membranous SVAS, detailing the clinical presentation and imaging manifestations.

Electrochemical CO2 reduction (eCO2R) to industrially important feedstock has received great attention, but it faces different challenges. Among them, the poor CO2 mass transport due to low intrinsic CO2 solubility significantly limits the rate of reduction reactions, leading to lower catalytic performance; thereby, commercially relevant current densities can't be achieved. Moreover, the poor activity and selectivity of high-cost monometallic catalysts, including Cu, Zn, Ag, and Au, undermine the efficiency of eCO2R. Flow-through gas diffusion electrodes (FTGDE), a newly developed class of GDEs, can potentially solve the issue of poor CO2 mass transport because they directly feed the CO2 to the catalyst layer. In addition, abundant surface area, porous structure, and improved triple-phase interface make them an excellent candidate for extremely high rate eCO2R. Antimony, a low-cost and abundant metalloid, can be effectively tuned with Cu to produce useful products such as CO, formate, and C2H4 through eCO2R. Herein, a series of porous binary CuSb FTGDEs with different Sb compositions are fabricated for the electrocatalytic reduction of CO2 to CO. The results show that the catalytic performance of CuSb FTGDEs improved with increasing Sb content up to a certain threshold, beyond which it started to decrease. The CuSb FTGDE with 5.4 g of antimony demonstrated higher current density (206.4 mA/cm2) and faradaic efficiency (72.82 %) at relatively lower overpotentials. Compared to gas diffusion configuration, the poor catalytic activity and selectivity achieved by CuSb FTGDE in non-gas diffusion configuration signifies the importance of improved local CO2 concentration and improved triple-phase interface formation in GDE configuration. The several hours stable operation of CuSb FTGDEs during eCO2R demonstrates its potential for efficient electrocatalytic conversion applications.

BACKGROUND: Dementia has become a major public health concern due to its heavy disease burden. Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a transitional stage between healthy aging and dementia. Early identification of MCI is an essential step in dementia prevention. OBJECTIVE: Based on machine learning (ML) methods, this study aimed to develop and validate a stable and scalable panel of cognitive tests for the early detection of MCI and dementia based on the Chinese Neuropsychological Consensus Battery (CNCB) in the Chinese Neuropsychological Normative Project (CN-NORM) cohort. METHODS: CN-NORM was a nationwide, multicenter study conducted in China with 871 participants, including an MCI group (n=327, 37.5%), a dementia group (n=186, 21.4%), and a cognitively normal (CN) group (n=358, 41.1%). We used the following 4 algorithms to select candidate variables: the F-score according to the SelectKBest method, the area under the curve (AUC) from logistic regression (LR), P values from the logit method, and backward stepwise elimination. Different models were constructed after considering the administration duration and complexity of combinations of various tests. Receiver operating characteristic curve and AUC metrics were used to evaluate the discriminative ability of the models via stratified sampling cross-validation and LR and support vector classification (SVC) algorithms. This model was further validated in the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative phase 3 (ADNI-3) cohort (N=743), which included 416 (56%) CN subjects, 237 (31.9%) patients with MCI, and 90 (12.1%) patients with dementia. RESULTS: Except for social cognition, all other domains in the CNCB differed between the MCI and CN groups (P<.008). In feature selection results regarding discrimination between the MCI and CN groups, the Hopkins Verbal Learning Test-5 minutes Recall had the best performance, with the highest mean AUC of up to 0.80 (SD 0.02) and an F-score of up to 258.70. The scalability of model 5 (Hopkins Verbal Learning Test-5 minutes Recall and Trail Making Test-B) was the lowest. Model 5 achieved a higher level of discrimination than the Hong Kong Brief Cognitive test score in distinguishing between the MCI and CN groups (P<.05). Model 5 also provided the highest sensitivity of up to 0.82 (range 0.72-0.92) and 0.83 (range 0.75-0.91) according to LR and SVC, respectively. This model yielded a similar robust discriminative performance in the ADNI-3 cohort regarding differentiation between the MCI and CN groups, with a mean AUC of up to 0.81 (SD 0) according to both LR and SVC algorithms. CONCLUSIONS: We developed a stable and scalable composite neurocognitive test based on ML that could differentiate not only between patients with MCI and controls but also between patients with different stages of cognitive impairment. This composite neurocognitive test is a feasible and practical digital biomarker that can potentially be used in large-scale cognitive screening and intervention studies.

Purpose: This study aimed to identify differentially methylated genes (DMGs) and differentially expressed genes (DEGs) to investigate new biomarkers for the diagnosis and treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Methods: To explore the potential biomarkers of PCOS diagnosis and treatment, we performed methyl-binding domain sequencing (MBD-seq) and RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) on ovarian granulosa cells (GCs) from PCOS patients and healthy controls. MBD-seq was also performed on the ovarian tissue of constructed prenatally androgenized (PNA) mice. Differential methylation and expression analysis were implemented to identify DMGs and DEGs, respectively. The identified gene was further verified by real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) and methylation-specific PCR (MSP) in clinical samples. Furthermore, ultra-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS) was carried out on PCOS patients and healthy controls to identify differential lipid metabolites. Results: Compared to the control group, 13,526 DMGs related to the promoter region and 2429 DEGs were found. The function analysis of DMGs and DEGs showed that they were mainly enriched in glycerophospholipid, ovarian steroidogenesis, and other lipid metabolic pathways. Moreover, 5753 genes in DMGs related to the promoter region were screened in the constructed PNA mice. Integrating the DMGs data from PCOS patients and PNA mice, we identified the following 8 genes: CDC42EP4, ERMN, EZR, PIK3R1, ARHGEF18, NECTIN2, TSC2, and TACSTD2. RT-qPCR and MSP verification results showed that the methylation and expression of TACSTD2 were consistent with sequencing data. Additionally, 15 differential lipid metabolites were shown in the serum of PCOS patients. The differential lipids were involved in glycerophospholipid and glycerolipid metabolism. Conclusion: Using integration of methylome and lipid metabolites profiling we identified 8 potential epigenetic markers and 15 potential lipid metabolite markers for PCOS. Our results suggest that aberrant DNA methylation and lipid metabolite disorders may provide novel insights into the diagnosis and etiology of PCOS.

BACKGROUND The use of laparoscopic pancreatoduodenectomy in elderly patients has sparked debate due to concerns about its safety. This study evaluates its safety and efficacy for elderly patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS We retrospectively analyzed data from 250 patients who underwent pancreatoduodenectomy between January 2015 and April 2022. Group A consisted of 100 non-elderly patients (under 70) who had laparoscopic procedures; Group B had 60 elderly patients (70 and above) with laparoscopic surgeries; and Group C included 90 elderly patients with open surgeries. Clinical outcomes were then compared across the groups. RESULTS Elderly patients undergoing laparoscopic pancreatoduodenectomy experienced a higher conversion rate (35% vs 19%), increased ICU admissions post-operation (45% vs 23%), a prolonged ICU stay, greater hospital expenses (¥118,782.48 vs ¥106,698.38), and a lower post-operative adjuvant therapy rate (31.91% vs 69.23%). However, they had fewer B-C pancreatic fistulas (5% vs 24%). Compared to open surgery in elderly patients, laparoscopic procedure showed benefits such as reduced blood loss (median of 200 ml) and fewer wound infections (3.33% vs 17.78%). On the downside, laparoscopy had a longer operation time (462.5 minutes vs 315 minutes), took longer before patients could resume oral intake (median of 5.5 days vs 5 days), and incurred higher hospitalization costs (¥118,782.48 vs ¥111,541.60). CONCLUSIONS While laparoscopic pancreatoduodenectomy in elderly patients may not match the outcomes seen in younger patients, it doesn't possess marked drawbacks when compared to open surgery. It is a safe and viable option for the elderly.

The two-electron oxygen reduction reaction in acid is highly attractive to produce H2O2, a commodity chemical vital in various industry and household scenarios, which is still hindered by the sluggish reaction kinetics. Herein, both density function theory calculation and in-situ characterization demonstrate that in dual-atom CoIn catalyst, O-affinitive In atom triggers the favorable and stable adsorption of hydroxyl, which effectively optimizes the adsorption of OOH on neighboring Co. As a result, the oxygen reduction on Co atoms shifts to two-electron pathway for efficient H2O2 production in acid. The H2O2 partial current density reaches 1.92 mA cm-2 at 0.65 V in the rotating ring-disk electrode test, while the H2O2 production rate is as high as 9.68 mol g-1 h-1 in the three-phase flow cell. Additionally, the CoIn-N-C presents excellent stability during the long-term operation, verifying the practicability of the CoIn-N-C catalyst. This work provides inspiring insights into the rational design of active catalysts for H2O2 production and other catalytic systems.

BACKGROUND: Whether encoding or retrieval failure contributes to memory binding deficit in amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) has not been elucidated. Also, the potential brain structural substrates of memory binding remained undiscovered. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the characteristics and brain atrophy pattern of encoding and retrieval performance during memory binding in aMCI. METHODS: Forty-three individuals with aMCI and 37 cognitively normal controls were recruited. The Memory Binding Test (MBT) was used to measure memory binding performance. The immediate and delayed memory binding indices were computed by using the free and cued paired recall scores. Partial correlation analysis was performed to map the relationship between regional gray matter volume and memory binding performance. RESULTS: The memory binding performance in the learning and retrieval phases was worse in the aMCI group than in the control group (F = 22.33 to 52.16, all p < 0.001). The immediate and delayed memory binding index in the aMCI group was lower than that in the control group (p < 0.05). The gray matter volume of the left inferior temporal gyrus was positively correlated with memory binding test scores (r = 0.49 to 0.61, p < 0.05) as well as the immediate (r = 0.39, p < 0.05) and delayed memory binding index (r = 0.42, p < 0.05) in the aMCI group. CONCLUSION: aMCI may be primarily characterized by a deficit in encoding phase during the controlled learning process. Volumetric losses in the left inferior temporal gyrus may contribute to encoding failure.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the RHD genotype of a blood donor with Del phenotype in Yunnan. METHODS: Rh serological phenotype was identified. RHD gene was detected by PCR-SSP typing, and its 10 exons were sequenced. Exon 9 was amplified for sequencing and analysis. RHD zygosity was detected. RESULTS: The Rh phenotype of this specimen was CcDelee. Genomic DNA exhibited a 1 003 bp deletion spanning from intron 8, across exon 9 into intron 9. The deletion breakpoints occurred between two 7-bp short tandem repeat sequences. There was no variation in the sequences of the remaining exons. The Rh hybridization box test showed that there was one RHD negative allele. CONCLUSION: This specimen is Del type caused by deletion of RHD exon 9.

To evaluate the safety, feasibility, and survival benefit of radiofrequency ablation in liver-only recurrence pancreatic cancer patients after radical pancreatectomy. The data and follow-up of pancreatic cancer patients who suffered liver-only recurrence after radical pancreatectomy from 2015 to 2021 were retrospectively collected. Finally, 19 liver metastases radiofrequency ablation patients were assigned to radiofrequency ablation group, and 41 patients were to systemic treatment group. (1) the baseline, perioperative characteristics, and pathological outcomes were well-balanced. (2) Recurrence pattern showed there were more multiple (> 3) recurrence tumors in systemic treatment patients (multiple one vs. 19, P = 0.005). (3) Median radiofrequency ablation operation time was 30.0 min, median blood loss was 1.0 ml, 4 (21.05%) patients suffered postoperative complications, and 94.74% liver metastases tumors got complete necrosis. The first efficacy evaluation showed a significantly better effect of radiofrequency ablation, complete and partial response rate 72.22% vs. 27.78%, P < 0.001. Overall survival from the initial surgery and after liver recurrence was significantly longer in the radiofrequency ablation group (43.0 vs. 22.0 months, 29.0 vs. 14.0 months, P = 0.003, 0.006, respectively). Progression-free survival after treatment was longer in the radiofrequency ablation group (6.0 vs. 5.0 months, P = 0.029). For liver recurrence tumor ≤ 3, overall survival from the initial surgery and after liver recurrence was significantly longer in radiofrequency ablation patients (43.0 vs. 22.0 months, 29.0 vs. 14.0 months, P = 0.011, 0.013, respectively). Progression-free survival after treatment was longer in the radiofrequency ablation group (7.0 vs. 4.0 months, P = 0.042). Radiofrequency ablation could get a curative purpose for patients with liver-only recurrence after pancreatectomy, improve progression-free survival and overall survival, and with minor surgery damage and risk.

BACKGROUND: Olfactory identification dysfunction (OID) might be an early sign of amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI). However, odor hedonics, the ability to perceive odor pleasantness, is neglected. Also, the neural substrate of OID remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: To explore the characteristics of odor identification and hedonics in aMCI and examine the potential neural correlates of OID by analyzing olfactory functional connectivity (FC) patterns in MCI. METHODS: Forty-five controls and 83 aMCI patients were examined. The Chinese smell identification test was used to assess olfaction. Global cognition, memory, and social cognition were assessed. Resting-state functional networks associated with olfactory cortex seeds were compared between the cognitively normal (CN) and aMCI groups, as well as between aMCI subgroups by the degree of OID. RESULTS: Compared to controls, aMCI patients had a significant deficit in olfactory identification, mainly reflected in the identification of pleasant and neutral odors. aMCI patients also rated pleasant and neutral odors much lower than controls. A positive correlation between olfaction and social cognition was found in aMCI. The seed-based FC analysis found that aMCI patients had higher FC between the right orbitofrontal cortex and right frontal lobe/middle frontal gyrus than controls. Subgroup analysis showed that, compared to aMCI without OID, aMCI with severe OID had abnormal FC in the bilateral piriform region. CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that OID in aMCI primarily refers to the identification of pleasant and neutral odors. The FC alterations in bilateral orbitofrontal cortex and piriform cortices might contribute to the impairment in odor identification.

CD36 is a multifunctional receptor expressed on the surface of many cell types. Among healthy individuals, CD36 may be absent on platelets and monocytes (type I deficiency) or platelets alone (type II deficiency). However, the exact molecular mechanisms underlying CD36 deficiency remain unclear. In this study, we aimed to identify individuals with CD36 deficiency and investigate the molecular basis underlying it. Blood samples were collected from platelet donors at Kunming Blood Center. Platelets and monocytes were isolated and CD36-expression levels were analyzed using flow cytometry. DNA from whole blood and mRNA isolated from monocytes and platelets of individuals with CD36 deficiency were analyzed using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing. The PCR products were cloned and sequenced. Among the 418 blood donors,7 (1.68%) were CD36 deficient: 1 (0.24%) with type I deficiency and 6(1.44%) with type II deficiency. Six heterozygous mutations occurred, including c.268C>T (in type I individuals), c.120 + 1 G>T, c.268C>T, c.329_330del/AC, c.1156 C>T, c.1163A>C, and c.1228_1239del/ATTGTGCCTATT (in type II individuals). Mutations were not detected in one type II individual . At the cDNA level, only mutant, but not wild-type, transcripts were detected in the platelets and monocytes of type I individual. In type II individuals, only mutant transcripts were found in platelets, whereas monocytes possessed wild-type and mutant transcripts. Interestingly, only alternative splicing transcripts were observed in the individual without mutation. We report the incidence rates of type I and II CD36 deficiencies among platelet donors in Kunming. Molecular genetic analyses of DNA and cDNA demonstrated that homozygous mutations on the cDNA level in platelets and monocytes or platelets alone identified type I and II deficiencies, respectively. Furthermore, alternatively spliced products also potentially contribute to the mechanism of CD36 deficiency.


What is the context? Healthy individuals may lack CD36 on platelets and (or) monocytes, which are defined as Type I and Type II CD36 deficiency. These individuals could develop anti-CD36 antibodies associated with immune-mediated disorders. However, the mechanism underlying the CD36 deficiency is still unclear. In this study, we reported the incidence of CD36 deficiency in Kunming platelet donors and found the new molecular basis of CD36 deficiency individuals.What's new? Molecular genetic analysis of cDNA derived from type I subjects showed the presence of mutant transcript only, both in platelets and monocytes. In type II subjects, platelets only carry mutant transcript, whereas monocytes possessed both wild-type and mutant transcripts. Furthermore, we found that alternatively spliced product of CD36 transcript could also contribute to the mechanism of CD36 deficiencies.What's the impact? Our finding indicates that analysis of CD36 at cDNA level is mandatory to verify different forms of CD36 deficiencies. This information may help us to understand the development of anti-CD36 antibodies in CD36 deficient individuals.

Previous studies on the striatum demonstrated that it is involved in the regulation of cognitive function and psychiatric symptoms in patients with behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD). Multiple lines of evidence have shown that striatal subregions have their own functions. However, the results of the existing studies on striatal subregions are inconsistent and unclear. In this study, we found that structural imaging analysis revealed that the bvFTD patients had smaller volumes of striatal subregions than the controls. We found that the degree of atrophy varied across the striatal subregions. Additionally, the right striatal subregions were significantly more atrophic than the left in bvFTD. Functional imaging analysis revealed that bvFTD patients exhibited different changed patterns of resting-state functional connectivity (RSFC) when striatal subregions were selected as regions of interest (ROI). The RSFC extending range on the right ROIs was more significant than on the left in the same subregion. Interestingly, the RSFC of the subregions extending to the insula were consistent. In addition, the left dorsolateral putamen may be involved in executive function regulation. This suggests that incongruence in striatal subregions may be critical to the bvFTD characteristics.

The unscientific application of synthetic pesticides has brought various negative effects on the environment, hindering the sustainable development of agriculture. Nanoparticles can be applied as carriers to improve pesticide delivery, showing great potential in the development of pesticide formulation in recent years. Herein, a star polymer (SPc) was constructed as an efficient pesticide nanocarrier/adjuvant that could spontaneously assemble with thiocyclam or monosultap into a complex, through hydrophobic association and hydrogen bonding, respectively, with the pesticide-loading contents of 42.54% and 19.3%. This complexation reduced the particle sizes of thiocyclam from 543.54 to 52.74 nm for pure thiocyclam, and 3 814.16 to 1 185.89 nm for commercial preparation (cp) of thiocyclam. Interestingly, the introduction of SPc decreased the contact angles of both pure and cp thiocyclam on plant leaves, and increased the plant uptake of cp thiocyclam to 2.4-1.9 times of that without SPc. Meanwhile, the SPc could promote the bioactivity of pure/cp thiocyclam against green peach aphids through leaf dipping method and root application. For leaf dipping method, the 50% lethal concentration decreased from 0.532 to 0.221 g/L after the complexation of pure thiocyclam with SPc, and that decreased from 0.390 to 0.251 g/L for cp thiocyclam. SPc seems a promising adjuvant for nanometerization of both pure and cp insecticides, which is beneficial for improving the delivery efficiency and utilization rate of pesticides.

Tobacco black shank is a kind of soil-borne disease caused by the Oomycete Phytophthora parasitica. This disease is one of the most destructive diseases to tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) growth worldwide. At present, various measures have been taken to control this disease, but they still have different challenges and limitations. Studies have shown that ß-aminobutyric acid (BABA), a nonprotein amino acid, can enhance disease resistance in plants against different varieties of pathogens. However, it is unclear whether BABA can induce plants to resist Phytophthora parasitica infection. Therefore, this study aims to explore the effect and related mechanism of BABA against tobacco black shank. Our results showed that 5 mmol.L-1 BABA had an obvious anti-inducing effect on the pathogenic fungus and could effectively inhibit the formation of dark spots in the stems. The results also showed that a large amount of callose deposition was observed in BABA-treated tobacco. Furthermore, the application of BABA induced the accumulation of H2O2 in tobacco and effectively regulated the homeostasis of reactive oxygen in tobacco plants, reducing the toxicity of H2O2 to plants while activating the defense system. In addition, BABA spray treatment could induce an increase in the concentrations of salicylic acid (SA) and jasmonic acid-isoleucine (JA-Ile) in tobacco, and the gene expression results confirmed that BABA upregulated the expression of SA-related genes (PR1, PR2 and PR5), JA-related genes (PDF1.2) and ET-related genes (EFE26 and ACC oxidase) in tobacco plants. Taken together, BABA could activate tobacco resistance to black shank disease by increasing H2O2 accumulation, callose deposition, plant hormone (SA and JA-Ile) production, and SA-, JA-, and ET- signaling pathways.

BACKGROUND: Guanosine monophosphate (GMP) synthetase is an enzyme that converts xanthosine monophosphate to GMP. GMP plays an essential role in plant development and responses to internal and external stimuli. It also plays a crucial role in several plant physiochemical processes, such as stomata closure, cation flux regulation, pathogen responses and chloroplast development. METHODS AND RESULTS: The mRNA sequences of NtGMP synthase in tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) were rapidly amplified from cDNA. The GMP synthase open reading frame contains a 1617 bp sequence encoding 538 amino acids. A sequence analysis showed that this sequence shares high homology with that of Nicotiana sylvestris, Nicotiana attenuata, N. tomentosiformis, Solanum tuberosum, Lycopersicon pennellii, L. esculentum, Capsicum annuum, C. chinense and C. baccatum GMP synthase. A BLAST analysis with a tobacco high-throughput genomic sequence database revealed that the tobacco GMP synthase gene has five introns and six exons. A phylogenetic analysis showed a close genetic evolutionary relationship with N. sylvestris GMP synthase. The tissue-specific expression profile was evaluated using quantitative real-time PCR. The data showed that NtGMP synthase was highly expressed in leaves and moderately expressed in roots, flowers, and stems. The subcellular localization was predicted using the WOLF PSORT webserver, which strongly suggested that it might be localized to the cytoplasm. CONCLUSIONS: In the current study, we cloned and comprehensively characterized GMP synthase in tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum). Our results establish a basis for further research to explore the precise role of this enzyme in tobacco.

OBJECTIVE: Based on deep learning, the characteristics of food impaction with tight proximal contacts were studied to guide the subsequent clinical treatment of occlusal adjustment. At the same time, digital model building, software measurement, and statistical correlation analysis were used to explore the cause of tooth impaction and to provide evidence for clinical treatment. METHODS: Volunteers with (n = 250) and without (n = 250) tooth impaction were recruited, respectively, to conduct a questionnaire survey. Meanwhile, models were made and perfused by skilled clinical physicians for these patients, and characteristics such as adjacent line length, adjacent surface area, tongue abduction gap angle, buccal abduction gap angle, and occlusal abduction gap angle were measured. A normality test, differential analysis, correlation analysis of pathological characteristics of the impaction group, principal component analysis (PCA), and binary logistic regression analysis were performed. RESULTS: The adjacent line length, adjacent surface area, tongue abduction gap angle, buccal abduction gap angle, and occlusal abduction gap angle all met normal distribution. There were statistically significant differences in adjacent line length (p < 0.001), adjacent surface area (p < 0.001), and occlusal abduction gap angle (p < 0.001) between the two groups. After dimensionality reduction by PCA on characteristics, adjacent line length, adjacent surface area, buccal abduction gap angle, and occlusal abduction gap angle had a strong correlation with the principal components. Binary logistic regression analysis showed that adjacent line length and adjacent surface area had positive effects on impaction. The buccal abduction gap angle and occlusal abduction gap angle had a significant negative influence on impaction. CONCLUSION: Adjacent line length, adjacent surface area, buccal abduction gap angle, and occlusal abduction gap angle are independent factors influencing food impaction.
