RESUMO

Common bile duct stones, as a type of cholelithiasis, are a benign biliary obstruction that easily acute abdominalgia, and Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is usually the first choice for clinical treatment. However, the increasing recurrence rate of patients after treatment is troubling clinicians and patients. For the prevention of recurrence after ERCP, there is no guideline to provide a clear drug regimen, traditional Chinese medicine however has achieved some result in the treatment of liver-related diseases based on the "gut-liver-bile acid axis". On the basis of this, this article discusses the possibility of traditional Chinese medicine to prevent common bile duct stones (CBDS) after ERCP, and we expect that this article will provide new ideas for the prevention of recurrence of CBDS and for the treatment of cholelithiasis-related diseases with traditional Chinese medicine in future clinical and scientific research.

Cadmium (Cd) is a harmful environmental pollutant that disrupts public health, including respiratory, digestive, and reproductive systems. In this study, male rats were exposed to CdCl2 at a dose of 3 mg/kg by oral for 28 days to investigate the impact on spermatogenesis. Testis tissue samples were collected after sacrifice, and piRNA expression levels were measured using piRNA microarray and qPCR. PiRNAs, specialized molecules involved in spermatogenesis, were examined. CdCl2 exposure led to disrupted piRNA expression, particularly in piRNA-DQ759395 in rats. This piRNA was found to have a binding site with p53, and a similar piRNA-DQ717867 was discovered in mice. In GC-2spd cells, CdCl2 exposure increased piRNA-DQ717867 expression, which resulted in cell cycle arrest and abnormal expression of cell cycle-related proteins. The activation of p53-related pathways and disruptions in cell cycle regulation were also observed. Antagomir-717867 transfections and PFT-a pretreatment in GC-2spd cells supported the involvement of piRNA-DQ717867 in regulating cell cycle-related proteins. This study suggests that Cd exposure induces abnormal expression of piRNA-DQ759395 in rat testis and that piRNA-DQ717867 may regulate p53, causing cell cycle abnormalities in GC-2spd cells. These findings help understand the mechanisms of male reproductive toxicity caused by Cd exposure and emphasize the role of piRNAs in cell cycle regulation and male reproductive health.

BACKGROUND: The morbidity and mortality rates of patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) have been steadily increasing in recent years. Previous studies have confirmed the important role of ferroptosis in NAFLD development; however, the precise mechanism through which ferroptosis influences NAFLD occurrence remains unclear. The present study aimed to identify and validate ferroptosis-related genes involved in NAFLD pathogenesis and to investigate the underlying molecular mechanisms of NAFLD. METHODS: We downloaded microarray datasets GSE72756 and GSE24807 to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between samples from healthy individuals and patients with NAFLD. From these DEGs, we extracted ferroptosis-related DEGs. GSE89632, another microarray dataset, was used to validate the expression of ferroptosis-related genes. A protein-protein interaction (PPI) network of ferroptosis-related genes was then constructed. The target genes were also subjected to Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analyses. Finally, competing endogenous RNA networks were constructed. We used the CIBERSORT package to evaluate the infiltration of immune cells infiltration in NAFLD. RESULTS: Five ferroptosis-related genes (SCP2, MUC1, DPP4, SLC1A4, and TF) were identified as promising diagnostic biomarkers for NAFLD. Enrichment analyses revealed that these genes are mainly involved in metabolic processes. NEAT1-miR-1224-5p-SCP2, NEAT1-miR-485-5p-MUC1, MALAT1-miR-485-5p-MUC1, and CNOT6-miR-145-5p-SLC1A4 are likely to be the potential RNA regulatory pathways that affect NAFLD development. Principal component analysis indicated significant differences in immune cell infiltration between the two groups. CONCLUSIONS: This study identified five ferroptosis-related genes as potential biomarkers for diagnosing NAFLD. The correlations between the expression of ferroptosis-related genes and immune cell infiltration might shed light on the study of the molecular mechanism underlying NAFLD development.

The semi-dry flue gas desulfurization ash (SFGDA) is an industrial waste generated by the semi-dry desulfurization process, and its resources have been continuously attracted attention. Through the method of heat decomposition, the SFGDA decomposed into CaO and SO2 has emerged as a prominent research topic. This paper summarizes various of research workers, who revealed that the decomposition temperature of CaSO4 in SFGDA is greater than 1678 K and 1603 K in the air atmosphere and N2 atmosphere, respectively, presenting challenges such as high energy consumption and limited economic feasibility. On the one hand, the effects of CO and C regulating the pyrolysis atmosphere on reducing the pyrolysis temperature were reviewed. On the other hand, the impact of additives such as Fe2O3 and FeS2 was considered. Ultimately, the joint effects of regulating atmosphere and additives were discussed, and an efficient and low-temperature decomposition route was obtained; adding solid C source and Fe2O3 for pyrolysis reaction, the decomposition temperature of CaSO4 can be reduced by at least 230 K and desulfurization efficiency exceeds 95% under the condition of micro-oxidizing atmosphere. Moreover, the CaO resulting from SFGDA decomposition can be further synthesized into calcium ferrite, while the enriched SO2 can be utilized for the production of industrial sulfuric acid, which holds promising prospects for large-scale industrial applications.

Backgroud: Postinfectious bronchiolitis obliterans (PIBO) is a rare respiratory disease. In recent years, the disease has been recognized and diagnosed increasingly in children. Pulmonary function is important for diagnosis, identifying the severity of the PIBO and monitoring progression. But there have been only a few studies that followed the evolution of PIBO on the basis of pulmonary function tests (PFTs). Objective: The study targeted the evolution of pulmonary function and bronchodilator response in a case series of Chinese children with PIBO. Methods: Twelve children between the ages of 6-99 months with PIBO were studied retrospectively from 2009 to 2019. Forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1), the FEV1/FVC ratio, and maximal midexpiratory flow velocity 25-75% (MMEF25-75%) were collected at each PFT, and bronchodilator responses were evaluated. Spirometric parameters were monitored over time, and generalized linear mixed models were used to analyze longitudinal panel data. Results: The median baseline PFT values for FVC, FEV1, the FEV1/FVC ratio, and MMEF25-75% were 41.6, 39.75, 90.7, and 22.2%, respectively. At the initial PFTs, 10 (83.3%) patients demonstrated a significant bronchodilator response. FVC and FEV1 increased by 8.212%/year and 5.007%/year, respectively, and the FEV1/FVC ratio decreased by an average of 3.537%/year. MMEF25-75% showed improvement at an average rate of 1.583% every year. Overall, FEV1 and MMEF25-75% showed different degrees of improvement after the use of inhaled bronchodilators at each PFT session for 10 patients, and FEV1 measures demonstrated significant (>12%) ß2-bronchodilation in 56% of PFT sessions. Conclusions: Pediatric patients with PIBO showed an obstructive defect in pulmonary function. The FVC, FEV1, and MMEF25-75% improved as they grew older, while the FEV1/FVC ratio decreased. This may be due to the development of lung parenchyma more than airway growth. Airway obstruction in some patients improved with the use of ß2 agonists.
