RESUMO

The dynamic changes between toxic and non-toxic strains of Microcystis blooms have always been a hot topic. Previous studies have found that low CO2 favors toxic strains, but how changing dissolved CO2 (CO2 [aq]) in water body influences the succession of toxic and non-toxic strains in Microcystis blooms remains uncertain. Here, we combined laboratory competition experiments, field observations, and a machine learning model to reveal the links between CO2 changes and the succession. Laboratory experiments showed that under low CO2 conditions (100-150 ppm), the toxic strains could make better use of CO2 (aq) and be dominant. The non-toxic strains demonstrated a growth advantage as CO2 concentration increased (400-1000 ppm). Field observations from June to November in Lake Taihu showed that the percentage of toxic strains increased as CO2 (aq) decreased. Machine learning highlighted links between the inorganic carbon concentration and the proportion of advantageous strains. Our findings provide new insights for cyanoHABs prediction and prevention.

RESUMO

Cardiac remodeling is manifested by hypertrophy and apoptosis of cardiomyocytes, resulting in the progression of cardiovascular diseases. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) serve as modifiers of cardiac remodeling. In this study, we aimed to explore the molecular mechanism of H19 shuttled by mesenchymal stem cells (MSC)-derived extracellular vesicles (EV) in cardiac remodeling upon heart failure (HF). Using the GEO database, H19, microRNA (miR)-29b-3p, and CDC42 were screened out as differentially expressed biomolecules in HF. H19 and CDC42 were elevated, and miR-29b-3p was decreased after MSC-EV treatment in rats subjected to ligation of the coronary artery. MSC-EV alleviated myocardial injury in rats with HF. H19 downregulation exacerbated myocardial injury, while miR-29b-3p inhibitor alleviated myocardial injury. By contrast, CDC42 downregulation aggravated the myocardial injury again. PI3K/AKT pathway was activated by MSC-EV. These findings provide insights into how H19 shuttled by EV mitigates cardiac remodeling through a competitive endogenous RNA network regarding miR-29b-3p and CDC42.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The essential roles of platelets in thrombosis have been well recognized. Unexpectedly, thrombosis is prevalent during thrombocytopenia induced by cytotoxicity of biological, physical and chemical origins, which could be suffered by military personnel and civilians during chemical, biological, radioactive, and nuclear events. Especially, thrombosis is considered a major cause of mortality from radiation injury-induced thrombocytopenia, while the underlying pathogenic mechanism remains elusive. METHODS: A mouse model of radiation injury-induced thrombocytopenia was built by exposing mice to a sublethal dose of ionizing radiation (IR). The phenotypic and functional changes of platelets and megakaryocytes (MKs) were determined by a comprehensive set of in vitro and in vivo assays, including flow cytometry, flow chamber, histopathology, Western blotting, and chromatin immunoprecipitation, in combination with transcriptomic analysis. The molecular mechanism was investigated both in vitro and in vivo, and was consolidated using MK-specific knockout mice. The translational potential was evaluated using a human MK cell line and several pharmacological inhibitors. RESULTS: In contrast to primitive MKs, mature MKs (mMKs) are intrinsically programmed to be apoptosis-resistant through reprogramming the Bcl-xL-BAX/BAK axis. Interestingly, mMKs undergo minority mitochondrial outer membrane permeabilization (MOMP) post IR, resulting in the activation of the cyclic GMP-AMP synthase-stimulator of IFN genes (cGAS-STING) pathway via the release of mitochondrial DNA. The subsequent interferon-ß (IFN-ß) response in mMKs upregulates a GTPase guanylate-binding protein 2 (GBP2) to produce large and hyperreactive platelets that favor thrombosis. Further, we unmask that autophagy restrains minority MOMP in mMKs post IR. CONCLUSIONS: Our study identifies that megakaryocytic mitochondria-cGAS/STING-IFN-ß-GBP2 axis serves as a fundamental checkpoint that instructs the size and function of platelets upon radiation injury and can be harnessed to treat platelet pathologies.

RESUMO

Studies have shown that vitamin D plays a crucial role in brain development, brain metabolism and neuroprotection. There is little evidence for the neuroprotective effect of 1, 25dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25(OH)2D3) on various brain injury models. The aim of this study was to investigate the neuroprotection effect of 1,25(OH)2D3 against hyperoxiainduced brain injury in premature rats. SpragueDawley rats were exposed to 95% oxygen or room air for 24 h and treated with 1,25(OH)2D3 or normal saline for 14 consecutive days. The histopathological changes of optic chiasma tissue were observed by hematoxylineosin staining. Immunohistochemistry, qRTPCR, and western blot were performed to detect the expression of integrinß1 and yesassociated protein (YAP) in the organization of the optic chiasm. Histopathological sections of optic chiasma showed visible optic nerve swelling, expanded nerve fiber space, uneven staining, obvious oligodendrocyte proliferation and disordered cell arrangement accompanied by inflammatory cell infiltration and exudation after 7 days and 14 days of hyperoxia exposure. The hyperoxia group treated with 1,25(OH)2D3 were showed improvement of brain injury with reduced inflammatory exudation, uniform nerve fiber staining and less obvious oligodendrocyte proliferation. Immunohistochemical staining, qRTPCR and western blot indicated that 1,25(OH)2D3 treatment upregulated the expression of integrinß1 and YAP in the hyperoxia group on day 7. However, the expression of YAP was significantly increased compared with control group and treatment with 1,25(OH)2D3 reduced the expression of YAP in the hyperoxic group on day 14. 1,25(OH)2D3 may regulate the expression of integrinß1 and YAP to alleviate hyperoxiainduced brain injury in premature rats.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Tuberculosis (TB) poses a serious challenge to global health systems. The altered intestinal microbiota is associated with the pathogenesis of TB, but the exact links remain unclear. METHODS: 16 S rDNA sequencing was performed to comprehensively detect the changes in the intestinal microbiota of feces from active TB (ATB), latent TB infection (LTBI) and healthy controls (HC). RESULTS: The rarefaction curves demonstrated the sequencing results' validity. The alpha diversity was lowest in ATB, while highest in HC. Boxplot of beta diversity showed significant differences in every two groups. LDA Effect Size (LEfSe) Analysis revealed differences in probiotic bacteria like Romboutsia, Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus in LTBI, and pro-inflammatory bacteria like R. gnavus, Streptococcus and Erysipelatoclostridium in ATB, corresponding to the cluster analysis. PICRUST2 analysis revealed the pentose phosphate pathway was active in ATB and LTBI (more active in ATB). The differences between the groups are statistically significant at the P<0.05 level. CONCLUSION: Our study indicated that from LTBI to ATB, some intestinal microbiota inhibit the synthesis of interferon (INF)-γ and interleukin (IL)-17, promoting the survival and spread of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tb). In addition, the metabolites secreted by intestinal microbiota and dysbiosis in intestine also have an effect on the development of LTBI to ATB.

RESUMO

Purpose: Distinguishing latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) from active tuberculosis (ATB) is important to control the prevalence of tuberculosis; however, there is currently no effective method. The aim of this study was to discover specific metabolites through fecal untargeted metabolomics to discriminate ATB, individuals with LTBI, and healthy controls (HC) and to probe the metabolic perturbation associated with the progression of tuberculosis. Patients and Methods: Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) was performed to comprehensively detect compounds in fecal samples from HC, LTBI, and ATB patients. Differential metabolites between the two groups were screened, and their underlying biological functions were explored. Candidate metabolites were selected and enrolled in LASSO regression analysis to construct diagnostic signatures for discriminating between HC, LTBI, and ATB. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was applied to evaluate diagnostic value. A nomogram was constructed to predict the risk of progression of LTBI. Results: A total of 35 metabolites were found to exist differentially in HC, LTBI, and ATB, and eight biomarkers were selected. Three diagnostic signatures based on the eight biomarkers were constructed to distinguish between HC, LTBI, and ATB, demonstrating excellent discrimination performance in ROC analysis. A nomogram was successfully constructed to evaluate the risk of progression of LTBI to ATB. Moreover, 3,4-dimethylbenzoic acid has been shown to distinguish ATB patients with different responses to etiological tests. Conclusion: This study constructed diagnostic signatures based on fecal metabolic biomarkers that effectively discriminated HC, LTBI, and ATB, and established a predictive model to evaluate the risk of progression of LTBI to ATB. The results provide scientific evidence for establishing an accurate, sensitive, and noninvasive differential diagnosis scheme for tuberculosis.

RESUMO

The surplus of nitrogen plays a key role in the maintenance of cyanobacterial bloom when phosphorus has already been limited. However, the interplay between high nitrogen and low phosphorus conditions is not fully understood. Nitrogen metabolism is critical for the metabolism of cyanobacteria. Transcriptomic analysis in the present study suggested that nitrogen metabolism and ribosome biogenesis were the two most significantly changed pathways in long-term phosphorus-starved bloom-forming cyanobacteria Microcystis aeruginosa FACHB-905. Notably, the primary glutamine synthetase/glutamate synthase cycle, crucial for nitrogen metabolism, was significantly downregulated. Concurrently, nitrogen uptake showed a marked decrease due to reduced expression of nitrogen source transporters. The content of intracellular nitrogen reservoir phycocyanin also showed a drastic decrease upon phosphorus starvation. Our study demonstrated that long-term phosphorus-starved cells also suffered from nitrogen deficiency because of the reduction in nitrogen assimilation, which might be limited by the reduced ribosome biogenesis and the shortage of adenosine triphosphate. External nitrogen supply will not change the transcriptions of nitrogen metabolism-related genes significantly like that under phosphorus-rich conditions, but still help to maintain the survival of phosphorus-starved cells. The study deepens our understanding about the survival strategies of Microcystis cells under phosphorus starvation and the mutual dependence between nitrogen and phosphorus, which would provide valuable information for nutrient management in the eutrophicated water body.

RESUMO

Riverine microplastic (MP) discharge into the ocean contributes greatly to global MP contamination, yet our understanding of this process remains primitive. To deepen our interpretation of the dynamic MP variation throughout the estuarine water columns, we sampled at Xuliujing, the saltwater intrusion node of the Yangtze River Estuary, over the course of ebb and flood tides in four seasons (July and October 2017, January and May 2018 respectively). We observed that the collision of downstream and upstream currents contributed to the high MP concentration and that the mean MP abundance fluctuated with the tide. A model of microplastics residual net flux (MPRF-MODEL), taking the seasonal abundance and vertical distribution of MP along with current velocity into consideration, was developed to predict the net flux of MP throughout the full water columns. 2154 ± 359.7 t/year of MP was estimated to flow into the East China Sea via the River in 2017-2018. Our study suggests that riverine MP flux can be overestimated due to reciprocating current carried MP from the estuary. Using the tidal and seasonal variation in MP distribution, we calculated the tide impact factor index (TIFI) for the Yangtze River Estuary to be between 38.11% and 58.05%. In summary, this study provides a baseline of MP flux research in the Yangtze River for similar tidal-controlled rivers and a contextual understanding of how to appropriately sample and accurately estimate in a dynamic estuary system. The redistribution of microplastics may be impacted by complex tide processes. Although not observed in this study, it may merit investigation.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Unresolved taxonomic classification and paraphyly pervade the flatworm class Monogenea: the class itself may be paraphyletic and split into Polyopisthocotylea and Monopisthocotylea; there are some indications that the monopisthocotylean order Dactylogyridea may also be paraphyletic; single-gene markers and some morphological traits indicate that the family Ancyrocephalidae is paraphyletic and intertwined with the family Dactylogyridae. METHODS: To attempt to study the relationships of Ancyrocephalidae and Monopisthocotylea using a phylogenetic marker with high resolution, we sequenced mitochondrial genomes of two fish ectoparasites from the family Dactylogyridae: Dactylogyrus simplex and Dactylogyrus tuba. We conducted phylogenetic analyses using three datasets and three methods. Datasets were ITS1 (nuclear) and nucleotide and amino acid sequences of almost complete mitogenomes of almost all available Monopisthocotylea mitogenomes. Methods were maximum likelihood (IQ-TREE), Bayesian inference (MrBayes) and CAT-GTR (PhyloBayes). RESULTS: Both mitogenomes exhibited the ancestral gene order for Neodermata, and both were compact, with few and small intergenic regions and many and large overlaps. Gene sequences were remarkably divergent for nominally congeneric species, with only trnI exhibiting an identity value > 80%. Both mitogenomes had exceptionally low A + T base content and AT skews. We found evidence of pervasive compositional heterogeneity in the dataset and indications that base composition biases cause phylogenetic artefacts. All six mitogenomic analyses produced unique topologies, but all nine analyses produced topologies that rendered Ancyrocephalidae deeply paraphyletic. Mitogenomic data consistently resolved the order Capsalidea as nested within the Dactylogyridea. CONCLUSIONS: The analyses indicate that taxonomic revisions are needed for multiple Polyopisthocotylea lineages, from genera to orders. In combination with previous findings, these results offer conclusive evidence that Ancyrocephalidae is a paraphyletic taxon. The most parsimonious solution to resolve this is to create a catch-all Dactylogyridae sensu lato clade comprising the current Ancyrocephalidae, Ancylodiscoididae, Pseudodactylogyridae and Dactylogyridae families, but the revision needs to be confirmed by another marker with a sufficient resolution.

RESUMO

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are well-known contaminants with widespread distribution in environment and food. Phenanthrene is one of the most abundant PAHs in food and aquatic environment and generates reproductive and developmental toxicity in zebrafish. Nonetheless, whether phenanthrene caused sex-specific thyroid disruption in adult zebrafish is unclear. To determine this, adult zebrafish (male and female) were treated with phenanthrene (0, 0.85, 8.5, and 85 µg/L) for 60 days. After the treatment period, we assessed the concentrations of thyroid hormones (THs) and expression levels of genes in the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis. The results showed that phenanthrene exposure can lead to thyroid disruption in both male and female zebrafish. Exposure to phenanthrene dramatically reduced the levels of L-thyroxine (T4) and L-triiodothyronine (T3) in both male and female zebrafish, with a similar trend in both. However, the genes expression profiles of hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis were sex-specific. In all, the present study demonstrated that phenanthrene exposure could result in sex-specific thyroid disruption in adult zebrafish.

RESUMO

Copper (Cu2+) and zinc (Zn2+) are two kinds of heavy metals essential to living organisms. Cu2+ and Zn2+ at excessive concentrations can cause adverse effects on animals, but little is known about the thyroid-disrupting effects of these metals in fish, especially in the early developmental transition stage from embryos to larvae. Wild-type zebrafish embryos were used to expose to Cu2+ (0, 1.5, 15, and 150 µg/L) and Zn2+ (0, 20, 200, and 2000 µg/L) for 120 h. Thyroid hormone contents and transcriptional changes of the genes connected with the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis were measured. Results showed that zebrafish embryos/larvae malformation rates were significantly increased in the Cu2+ and Zn2+ groups. Remarkably elevated thyroxine (T4) concentrations and reduced triiodothyronine (T3) concentrations were observed in Cu2+ and Zn2+ exposure fish. And the expression patterns of genes connected with the HPT axis were changed after Cu2+ and Zn2+ treatment. Based on principal component analysis (PCA) results, Zn2+ caused significant effects on the thyroid endocrine system at 200 µg/L, while Cu2+ resulted in thyroid disruption as low as 1.5 µg/L. In short, our study demonstrated that exposure to Cu2+ and Zn2+ induced developmental toxicity and thyroid disruption to zebrafish embryos/larvae.

RESUMO

Objective: The aim of this study is to study the application effects of doctor-nurse-patient co-decision-making nursing intervention based on evidence-based problems in the rehabilitation of acute ankle lateral collateral ligament injury. Methods: 150 patients with acute ankle lateral collateral ligament injury who were treated in the hospital between December 2020 and December 2021 were selected, and they were divided into the routine group and the evidence-based group by the random number table method, with 75 cases in each group. The patients in the routine group received routine nursing intervention, while the patients in the evidence-based group adopted doctor-nurse-patient co-decision-making nursing intervention based on evidence-based problems, and both groups were intervened for 1 month. The rehabilitation time (swelling subsidence time, fixation removal time, and normal walking time), ankle active range of motion (dorsiflexion and plantar flexion), ankle function (ankle Kofoed score) before and after intervention, and the total incidence rate of complications (tendon injury, ankylosis, and traumatic arthritis) within 1 month of intervention were compared between the two groups of patients. Results: The swelling subsidence time, fixed removal time, and normal walking time in the evidence-based group were significantly shorter than those in the routine group (P < 0.05). After 1 month of intervention, the ranges of motion of dorsiflexion and plantar flexion and ankle Kofoed scores of the two groups were significantly higher than those before intervention, and the abovementioned indicators in the evidence-based group were significantly higher than those in the routine group (P < 0.05). Within 1 month of intervention, the total incidence rate of tendon injury, ankylosis, and traumatic arthritis was significantly lower in the evidence-based group than that in the routine group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Nursing intervention of doctor-nurse-patient co-decision-making based on evidence-based problems in patients with acute ankle lateral collateral ligament injury can promote postoperative rehabilitation and restore the ankle function of patients.

RESUMO

Atmospheric transport has been recognized as an important route for microplastics (MPs) entering the ocean since the early 2019s, yet little data of their distribution patterns in marine air are currently available. In this study, we conducted continuous measurements of atmospheric MPs in the marine boundary layer across the western Pacific Ocean. Results suggested that synthetic MPs comprised 25.89 % of all identified particles, with the most being cotton and cellulose (51.68 %). Research revealed that atmospheric synthetic microfibers (22.54 %) are higher than the proportion of the surface oceanic synthetic microfibers (8.20 %) in the recent study. Further, the size of airborne MP fibers over open ocean is probably not the limiting factor during long-range transport. The mean abundance of atmospheric MPs over the western Pacific Ocean during sampling period was 0.841 ± 0.698 items/100 m3. Regression analysis revealed an exponential relationship between average MP abundance and average longitude of sampled stations, and the average abundance of airborne MPs in coastal megacity is three orders of magnitude higher than that in sampled marine air of western Pacific. This study provides a better understanding on the impact of atmospheric transport of MPs within the global plastic cycle.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Diplozoidae are monogenean (Monogenea: Polyopisthocotylea) fish parasites characterised by a unique life history: two larvae permanently fuse into an X-shaped "Siamese" organism. Taxonomy and phylogeny of Diplozoidae and Polyopisthocotylea remain unresolved due to the unavailability of molecular markers with sufficiently high resolution. Mitogenomes may be a suitable candidate, but there are currently only 12 available for the Polyopisthocotylea (three for Diplozoidae). The only available study of diplozoid mitogenomes found unique base composition patterns and elevated evolution rates in comparison with other Monogenean mitogenomes. METHODS: To further explore their evolution and generate molecular data for evolutionary studies, we sequenced the complete mitogenomes of two Diplozoidae species, Paradiplozoon homoion and Paradiplozoon yarkandense, and conducted a number of comparative mitogenomic analyses with other polyopisthocotyleans. RESULTS: We found further evidence that mitogenomes of Diplozoidae evolve at a unique, elevated rate, which was reflected in their exceptionally long branches, large sizes, unique base composition, skews, and very low gene sequence similarity levels between the two newly sequenced species. They also exhibited remarkably large overlaps between some genes. Phylogenetic analysis of Polyopisthocotylea resolved all major taxa as monophyletic, and Mazocraeidea was split into two major clades: (Diplozoidae) + (all four remaining families: Diclidophoridae, Chauhaneidae, Mazocraeidae and Microcotylidae). It also provided further confirmation that the genus Paradiplozoon is paraphyletic and requires a taxonomic revision, so the two species may have to be renamed Indodiplozoon homoion and Diplozoon yarkandense comb. nov. CONCLUSIONS: Although our findings indicate that mitogenomes may be a promising tool for resolving the phylogeny of Polyopisthocotylea, elevated evolutionary rates of Diplozoidae may cause phylogenetic artefacts, so future studies should pay caution to this problem. Furthermore, as the reason for their elevated evolution remains unknown, Diplozoidae are a remarkably interesting lineage for other types of evolutionary mitogenomic studies.

RESUMO

Atmospheric transport is an important pathway through which microplastics (MPs) are widely exchanged between marine and terrestrial environments. However, the impacts of frequent extreme weather events, such as typhoons, on atmospheric MPs is poorly understood. To address this issue, we collected suspended atmospheric MPs (SAMPs) and rainfall samples in the South China Sea during Typhoon Sinlaku (2020). Our results revealed a higher abundance of suspended MPs (1.05 ± 0.55 n/100 m3) during the typhoon than in the pre-typhoon period (0.59 ± 0.48 n/100 m3). Nine polymer types were identified by micro-FTIR, among which the dominant were polyethylene terephthalate (PET, 62.82%) and polypropylene (PP, 19.23%). Moreover, rainfall appeared more inclined to remove larger sizes, more colors and more polymer types of MPs from the atmosphere. The trajectory source-receptor plot indicated that the typhoon significantly changed the pathway of MP transport in the atmosphere, including the direction and distance. To our knowledge, this is the first study to elucidate the impact of typhoons on atmospheric MP transportation. Our results indicate that airborne MPs may pose unexpected ecological risks to marine and coastal ecosystems due to their increased abundance from more distant sources, resulting from typhoon events.

RESUMO

The multi-generation heredity trait of hypertension in human has been reported, but the molecular mechanisms underlying multi-generational inheritance of hypertension remain obscure. Recent evidence shows that prenatal inflammatory exposure (PIE) results in increased incidence of cardiovascular diseases, including hypertension. In this study we investigated whether and how PIE contributed to multi-generational inheritance of hypertension in rats. PIE was induced in pregnant rats by intraperitoneal injection of LPS or Poly (I:C) either once on gestational day 10.5 (transient stimulation, T) or three times on gestational day 8.5, 10.5, and 12.5 (persistent stimulation, P). Male offspring was chosen to study the paternal inheritance. We showed that PIE, irrespectively induced by LPS or Poly (I:C) stimulation during pregnancy, resulted in multi-generational inheritance of significantly increased blood pressure in rat descendants, and that prenatal LPS exposure led to vascular remodeling and vasoconstrictor dysfunction in both thoracic aorta and superior mesenteric artery of adult F2 offspring. Furthermore, we revealed that PIE resulted in global alteration of DNA methylome in thoracic aorta of F2 offspring. Specifically, PIE led to the DNA hypomethylation of G beta gamma (Gßγ) signaling genes in both the F1 sperm and the F2 thoracic aorta, and activation of PI3K/Akt signaling was implicated in the pathologic changes and dysregulated vascular tone of aortic tissue in F2 LPS-P offspring. Our data demonstrate that PIE reprogrammed DNA methylome of cells from the germline/mature gametes contributes to the development of hypertension in F2 PIE offspring. This study broadens the current knowledge regarding the multi-generation effect of the cumulative early life environmental factors on the development of hypertension.

RESUMO

Microplastic (MP) pollution is ubiquitous in the terrestrial and marine environments, even in the air. However, ecological risk assessment studies of microplastics are scarce. In the present study, an ecological risk assessment model was built to evaluate the risks of microplastics in the Yangtze River Estuary and adjacent marine areas. A basic index database of the impacts of MP pollution on the ecosystem was constructed around three types of indices, namely, the pressure, status, and response indices. While the expert scoring method was used to determine the weights of these indices, in view of the complexity of the ecosystem in the Yangtze River Estuary, the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method was used to evaluate its ecological risk. According to the model, microplastic pollution in the Yangtze River Estuary and adjacent marine areas was within a lower risk state, indicating that its risks for the marine ecosystem were still within a controllable range.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to investigate the changes and significance of serum fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) in children with primary nephrotic syndrome (PNS) and chronic renal failure. METHODS: Pediatric patients with active PNS and normal renal function (the nephrotic syndrome group), pediatric patients with chronic renal failure (the renal failure group), and children who had healthy physical examinations (the control group) were included. The serum levels of FGF21, total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C), and low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C) were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and the serum albumin and 24 h urine protein were measured in the PNS group. RESULTS: Compared with the normal control group, the level of serum FGF21 in the PNS group and the renal failure group increased significantly (P < 0.05). The TC, TG, HDL-C, and LDL-C levels increased significantly in the PNS group (P < 0.05). The levels of TG and HDL-C increased significantly in the renal failure group (P < 0.05). The levels of TC, HDL-C, and LDL-C in the renal failure group were lower than those in the PNS group (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in TG level between the two groups (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: The level of serum FGF21 may be correlated with the occurrence and development of nephrosis in children. The higher the level of serum FGF21, the more serious the renal injury.
