RESUMO

Importance: Subjective cognitive decline (SCD) is recognized to be in the Alzheimer disease (AD) cognitive continuum. The SCD Initiative International Working Group recently proposed SCD-plus (SCD+) features that increase risk for future objective cognitive decline but that have not been assessed in a large community-based setting. Objective: To assess SCD risk for mild cognitive impairment (MCI), AD, and all-cause dementia, using SCD+ criteria among cognitively normal adults. Design, Setting, and Participants: The Framingham Heart Study, a community-based prospective cohort study, assessed SCD between 2005 and 2019, with up to 12 years of follow-up. Participants 60 years and older with normal cognition at analytic baseline were included. Cox proportional hazards (CPH) models were adjusted for baseline age, sex, education, APOE ε4 status, and tertiles of AD polygenic risk score (PRS), excluding the APOE region. Data were analyzed from May 2021 to November 2023. Exposure: SCD was assessed longitudinally using a single question and considered present if endorsed at the last cognitively normal visit. It was treated as a time-varying variable, beginning at the first of consecutive, cognitively normal visits, including the last, at which it was endorsed. Main Outcomes and Measures: Consensus-diagnosed MCI, AD, and all-cause dementia. Results: This study included 3585 participants (mean [SD] baseline age, 68.0 [7.7] years; 1975 female [55.1%]). A total of 1596 participants (44.5%) had SCD, and 770 (21.5%) were carriers of APOE ε4. APOE ε4 and tertiles of AD PRS status did not significantly differ between the SCD and non-SCD groups. MCI, AD, and all-cause dementia were diagnosed in 236 participants (6.6%), 73 participants (2.0%), and 89 participants (2.5%), respectively, during follow-up. On average, SCD preceded MCI by 4.4 years, AD by 6.8 years, and all-cause dementia by 6.9 years. SCD was significantly associated with survival time to MCI (hazard ratio [HR], 1.57; 95% CI, 1.22-2.03; P <.001), AD (HR, 2.98; 95% CI, 1.89-4.70; P <.001), and all-cause dementia (HR, 2.14; 95% CI, 1.44-3.18; P <.001). After adjustment for APOE and AD PRS, the hazards of SCD were largely unchanged. Conclusions and Relevance: Results of this cohort study suggest that in a community setting, SCD reflecting SCD+ features was associated with an increased risk of future MCI, AD, and all-cause dementia with similar hazards estimated in clinic-based settings. SCD may be an independent risk factor for AD and other dementias beyond the risk incurred by APOE ε4 and AD PRS.

RESUMO

A stereodivergent synthesis of ß- and α-O-glycosides using 3-O-quinaldoyl glucals was developed by palladium catalysis at 60 and 110 °C respectively. Various alcohols, monosaccharides, and amino acid were glycosylated to form ß- and α- products in good yields with high stereoselectivity. Mechanistic studies indicated no classic Pd-N (quinoline) coordination, but π-π stacking interactions promoted the anomeric stereodiversity. The practicality was demonstrated by glycosylating natural products/drugs and synthesizing a complex tetrasaccharide.

RESUMO

Aim: Endothelial dysfunction has been associated with both cerebrovascular pathology and Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the connection between circulating endothelial cells and the risk of AD remains uncertain. The objective was to leverage data from the Framingham Heart Study to investigate various circulating endothelial subtypes and their potential correlations with the risk of AD. Methods: The study conducted data analyses using Cox proportional hazard regression and linear regression methods. Additionally, genome-wide association study (GWAS) was carried out to further explore the data. Results: Among the eleven distinct circulating endothelial subtypes, only circulating endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) expressing CD34+CD133+ were found to be negatively and dose-dependently associated with reduced AD risk. This association persisted even after adjusting for age, sex, years of education, apolipoprotein E (APOE) ε4 status, and various vascular diseases. Particularly noteworthy was the significant association observed in individuals with hypertension and cerebral microbleeds. Consistently, positive associations were identified between CD34+CD133+ EPCs and specific brain regions, such as higher proportions of circulating CD34+CD133+ cells correlating with increased volumes of white matter and the hippocampus. Additionally, a GWAS study unveiled that CD34+CD133+ cells influenced AD risk specifically in individuals with homozygous genotypes for variants in two stem cell-related genes: kirre like nephrin family adhesion molecule 3 (KIRREL3, rs580382 CC and rs4144611 TT) and exocyst complex component 6B (EXOC6B, rs61619102 CC). Conclusions: The findings suggest that circulating CD34+CD133+ EPCs possess a protective effect and may offer a new therapeutic avenue for AD, especially in individuals with vascular pathology and those carrying specific genotypes of KIRREL3 and EXOC6B genes.

RESUMO

Breast cancer (BC) is the most common cancer and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women worldwide. The 5-year survival rate is over 90% in BC patients, but once BC cells metastasis into distal organs, it is dramatically decreasing to less than 30%. Especially, triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) patients usually lead to poor prognosis and survival because of metastasis. Understanding the underline mechanisms of TNBC metastasis is a critical issue. Non-coding RNAs, including of lncRNAs and microRNAs, are non-protein-coding transcripts and have been reported as important regulators in TNBC metastasis. However, the underline mechanisms for non-coding RNAs regulating TNBC metastasis remain largely unclear. Here, we found that lncRNA MIR4500HG003 was highly expressed in highly metastatic MDA-MB-231 TNBC cells and overexpression of MIR4500HG003 enhanced metastasis ability in vitro and in vivo and promoted MMP9 expression. Furthermore, we found MIR4500HG003 physically interacted with miR-483-3p and reporter assay showed miR-483-3p attenuated MMP9 expression. Importantly, endogenous high expressions of MIR4500HG003 were correlated with tumor recurrence in TNBC patients with tumor metastasis. Taken together, our findings suggested that MIR4500HG003 promotes metastasis of TNBC through miR-483-3p-MMP9 signaling axis and may be used as potential prognostic marker for TNBC patients.

RESUMO

Conventional strategies for highly efficient and selective CO2 photoreduction focus on the design of catalysts and cocatalysts. In this study, we discover that hydrogen bond network breakdown in reaction system can suppress H2 evolution, thereby improving CO2 photoreduction performance. Photosensitive poly(ionic liquid)s are designed as photocatalysts owing to their strong hydrogen bonding with solvents. The hydrogen bond strength is tuned by solvent composition, thereby effectively regulating H2 evolution (from 0 to 12.6 mmol g-1 h-1). No H2 is detected after hydrogen bond network breakdown with trichloromethane or tetrachloromethane as additives. CO production rate and selectivity increase to 35.4 mmol g-1 h-1 and 98.9 % with trichloromethane, compared with 0.6 mmol g-1 h-1 and 26.2 %, respectively, without trichloromethane. Raman spectroscopy and theoretical calculations confirm that trichloromethane broke the systemic hydrogen bond network and subsequently suppressed H2 evolution. This hydrogen bond network breakdown strategy may be extended to other catalytic reactions involving H2 evolution.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Identification of therapies to promote repair in multiple sclerosis is challenged by the lack of an accepted trial model and associated outcome measures. The goal of this study was to determine the feasibility of a new trial model that enrolls disease modifying therapy (DMT)-treated relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) participants who have enhancing lesions on clinically indicated brain MRI, and to explore estimates of lesion repair using MRI. METHODS: This was a single site randomized controlled clinical trial. Recruitment took place between November 2015 and January 2019, with final follow-up in February 2019. DMT-treated RRMS participants aged 18-60 years with at least one gadolinium-enhancing lesion on clinically indicated brain MRI were included. Participants were randomized 2:1 to oral domperidone add-on 10-mg three times daily for 16 weeks or no add-on treatment (control). The primary outcomes were feasibility of the model pre-defined as recruitment of 24 participants within 36 months with a 79 % completion rate, and MRI outcomes of lesion repair measured at 16 and 32 weeks using texture analysis, magnetization transfer imaging (MTI), and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). The impact of domperidone on serum prolactin at 6 and 16 weeks was also evaluated. RESULTS: Of 237 RRMS participants screened, 17 (14 women) were randomized: 12 to domperidone add-on and 5 to control. All completed the study. Median (range) age was 38.9 (26.7-55.9) years; EDSS was 1.5 (1.0-3.5); and disease duration was 12.9 (2.9-23.3) years. Both groups showed improvement in MRI texture and diffusion fractional anisotropy (FA) at 32 weeks, and the domperidone group demonstrated additional recovery at 16 weeks in both texture and FA. There was no significant group difference in any MRI outcome. Of the 12 domperidone participants, 7 had ≥4x higher serum prolactin than normal. There were no serious adverse events. CONCLUSION: The recruitment target was not met and therefore the trial model was not feasible despite a full completion rate. The imaging techniques performed well, especially MRI texture analysis, suggesting the sample size being sufficient for estimating lesion repair. The main challenge of this trial model may be recruiting gadolinium-enhancing lesions in DMT-treated RRMS participants. Prolactin is safe and may hold promise as a remyelination therapy. RESUMO

The conversion of methane under ambient conditions has attracted significant attention. Although advancements have been made using active oxygen species from photo- and electro- chemical processes, challenges such as complex catalyst design, costly oxidants, and unwanted byproducts remain. This study exploits the concept of contact-electro-catalysis, initiating chemical reactions through charge exchange at a solid-liquid interface, to report a novel process for directly converting methane under ambient conditions. Utilizing the electrification of commercially available Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene (FEP) with water under ultrasound, we demonstrate how this interaction promote the activation of methane and oxygen molecules. Our results show that the yield of HCHO and CH3OH can reach 467.5 and 151.2 µmol ⋅ gcat -1, respectively. We utilized electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) to confirm the evolution of hydroxyl radicals (⋅OH) and superoxide radicals (⋅OOH). Isotope mass spectrometry (MS) was employed to analyze the elemental origin of CH3OH, which can be further oxidized to HCHO. Additionally, we conducted density functional theory (DFT) simulations to assess the reaction energies of FEP with H2O, O2, and CH4 under these conditions. The implications of this methodology, with its potential applicability to a wider array of gas-phase catalytic reactions, underscore a significant advance in catalysis.

RESUMO

Three pargyline-phosphine copper(I) clusters, [Cu4(CC-C9H12N)3(PPh3)4](PF6) (1) and [Cu6(CC-C9H12N)4(dppy)4](X)2 (dppy = diphenyl-2-pyridylphosphine; X = PF6 for 2 and X = ClO4 for 3), were synthesized. Their structures were fully characterized using various spectroscopic methods and X-ray crystallography, which showed that the stoichiometry and nature of pargyline and phosphine ligands play an important role in tuning the structure and photophysical features of Cu(I) clusters. Interestingly, clusters 1, 2 and 3 exhibited red, orange and yellow phosphorescence with high quantum yields of 88.5%, 22.0% and 40.2%, respectively, at room temperature. Moreover, clusters 1-3 show distinct temperature-dependent emissions. The excellent luminescence performance of 1 and 3 was designed and employed for the construction of monochrome and white light-emitting devices (LEDs).

RESUMO

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have emerged as promising oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts. Chemically bonded MOFs on supports are desirable yet lacking in routine synthesis, as they may allow variable structural evolution and the underlying structure-activity relationship to be disclosed. Herein, direct MOF synthesis is achieved by an organic acid-etching strategy (AES). Using π-conjugated ferrocene (Fc) dicarboxylic acid as the etching agent and organic ligand, a series of MFc-MOF (M=Ni, Co, Fe, Zn) nanosheets are synthesized on the metal supports. The crystal structure is studied using X-ray diffraction and low-dose transmission electron microscopy, which is quasi-lattice-matched with that of the metal, enabling in situ MOF growth. Operando Raman and attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy disclose that the NiFc-MOF features dynamic structural rebuilding during OER. The reconstructed one showing optimized electronic structures with an upshifted total d-band center, high M-O bonding state occupancy, and localized electrons on adsorbates indicated by density functional theory calculations, exhibits outstanding OER performance with a fairly low overpotential (130 mV at 10 mA cm-2 ) and good stability (144 h). The newly established approach for direct MOF synthesis and structural reconstruction disclosure stimulate the development of more prudent catalysts for advancing OER.

RESUMO

In current work, the effect of ripening stages (I, II, and III) on pulsed vacuum drying (PVD) behavior of goji berry was explored. The shortest drying time of goji berry was observed at stage I (6.99 h) which was 13.95 %, and 28.85 % shorter than those at stages II, and III, respectively. This phenomenon was closely associated with the ripening stage, as contributed by the initial physiochemical differences, ultrastructure alterations, and moisture distribution. In addition, lower maturity suffered more severe browning, primarily due to the enzymatic and non-enzymatic reactions of phenolics, followed by pigment degradation and the Maillard reaction. Additionally, the PVD process promoted the rupture and transformation of the pectin fractions, also causing browning either directly or indirectly through participation in other chemical reactions. These findings suggest that the appropriate ripening stage of goji berry should be considered as having a significant impact on drying behaviors and quality attributes.

RESUMO

Vacuum steam pulsed blanching (VSPB) was employed as a novel blanching technology on Cornus officinalis to soften the tissue for subsequent coring and dehydration. The current work aims to explore its effect on mass transfer behavior, PPO inactivation, drying characteristics, physicochemical properties, antioxidant capacity, and microstructure of C. officinalis. Results showed that VSPB increased water loss, decreased solid gain, and increased weight reduction with increased blanching cycles. Besides, VSPB significantly changed physical properties and extensively reduced drying time which was attributed to the cell wall components dissolving and cell turgor pressure decreasing, also verified by observing microstructure alteration. PPO was completely denatured after blanching in 6 cycles, but phenolic compounds were still diffused or degraded. Notably, the content of flavonoids and antioxidant capacity significantly increased compared to fresh samples probably due to increased extractability caused by the disrupting cell structure. Besides, the carotenoids and ascorbic acid could be well preserved.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Hereditary spastic paraplegias (HSPs) comprise a group of neurodegenerative disorders characterized by progressive degeneration of upper motor neurons. Homozygous or compound heterozygous variants in COQ4 have been reported to cause primary CoQ10 deficiency-7 (COQ10D7), which is a mitochondrial disease. AIMS: We aimed to screened COQ4 variants in a cohort of HSP patients. METHODS: A total of 87 genetically unidentified HSP index patients and their available family members were recruited. Whole exome sequencing (WES) was performed in all probands. Functional studies were performed to identify the pathogenicity of those uncertain significance variants. RESULTS: In this study, five different COQ4 variants were identified in three Chinese HSP pedigrees and two variants were novel, c.87dupT (p.Arg30*), c.304C>T (p.Arg102Cys). More importantly, we firstly described two early-onset pure HSP caused by COQ4 variants. Functional studies in patient-derived fibroblast lines revealed a reduction cellular CoQ10 levels and the abnormal mitochondrial structure. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings revealed that bilateral variants in the COQ4 gene caused HSP predominant phenotype, expanding the phenotypic spectrum of the COQ4-related disorders.

RESUMO

Cation-intercalated vanadates, which have considerable promise as the cathode for high-performance potassium metal batteries (PMBs), suffer from structural collapse upon K+ insertion and desertion. Exotic cations in the vanadate cathode may ease the collapse, yet their effect on the intrinsic cation remains speculative. Herein, a stable and dendrite-free PMB, composed of a Na+ and K+ co-intercalated vanadate (NKVO) cathode and a liquid NaK alloy anode, is presented. A series of NKVO with tuneable Na/K ratios are facilely prepared using MXene precursors, in which Na+ is testified to be immobilized upon cycling, functioning as a structural pillar. Due to stronger ionic bonding and lower Fermi level of Na+ compared to K+ , moderate Na+ intercalation could reduce K+ binding to the solvation sheath and favor K+ diffusion kinetics. As a result, the MXene-derived Na+ -pillared NKVO exhibits markedly improved specific capacities, rate performance, and cycle stability than the Na+ -free counterpart. Moreover, thermally-treated carbon paper, which imitates the microscopic structure of Chinese Xuan paper, allows high surface tension liquid NaK alloy to adhere readily, enabling dendrite-free metal anodes. By clarifying the role of foreign intercalating cations, this study may lead to a more rational design of stable and high-performance electrode materials.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Although cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) amyloid-ß42 peptide (Aß42) and phosphorylated tau (p-tau) and blood p-tau are valuable for differential diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) from cognitively normal (CN) there is a lack of validated biomarkers for mild cognitive impairment (MCI). OBJECTIVE: This study sought to determine how plasma and CSF protein markers compared in the characterization of MCI and AD status. METHODS: This cohort study included Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) participants who had baseline levels of 75 proteins measured commonly in plasma and CSF (257 total, 46 CN, 143 MCI, and 68 AD). Logistic regression, least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and Random Forest (RF) methods were used to identify the protein candidates for the disease classification. RESULTS: We observed that six plasma proteins panel (APOE, AMBP, C3, IL16, IGFBP2, APOD) outperformed the seven CSF proteins panel (VEGFA, HGF, PRL, FABP3, FGF4, CD40, RETN) as well as AD markers (CSF p-tau and Aß42) to distinguish the MCI from AD [area under the curve (AUC) = 0.75 (plasma proteins), AUC = 0.60 (CSF proteins) and AUC = 0.56 (CSF p-tau and Aß42)]. Also, these six plasma proteins performed better than the CSF proteins and were in line with CSF p-tau and Aß42 in differentiating CN versus MCI subjects [AUC = 0.89 (plasma proteins), AUC = 0.85 (CSF proteins) and AUC = 0.89 (CSF p-tau and Aß42)]. These results were adjusted for age, sex, education, and APOEϵ4 genotype. CONCLUSIONS: This study suggests that the combination of 6 plasma proteins can serve as an effective marker for differentiating MCI from AD and CN.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The first-line treatment for cervical dystonia (CD) consists of repeated intramuscular injections of botulinum toxin (BoNT). However, the efficacy in some patients may be unsatisfactory and they may discontinue treatment. OBJECTIVE: To examine the factors associated with the maximum rate of remission in patients with CD after initial botulinum neurotoxin type A (or botulinum toxin type A abbreviated as BTX-A or BoNT-A) treatment. METHODS: Patients with CD who received BoNT-A injections were evaluated using the Toronto Western Spasmodic Torticollis Rating Scale (TWSTRS) and the Tsui scale, with follow-up endpoints lasting until the start of the second injection. Patients who did not receive a second injection of BoNT-A were followed up for at least 5 months. The maximum remission rates were determined using the lowest Tsui and TWSTRS total scores during the follow-up period. We obtained basic information about these patients such as age, gender, duration of disease, presence of additional disease, types of torticollis, presence of anxiety, depression, tremors, single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) findings, injected dose, and so on from their medical records. RESULTS: A total of 70 patients with CD participated in this study, with males comprising 35.7% (25 individuals) with an average age of 45 ± 14 years old. The duration of disease was an independent risk factor for determining whether a complete remission has been attained using the Tsui scale (odds ratio [OR] = 0.978, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.959-0.997, P= 0.026). The optimal cut-off point for predicting patients who were unable to achieve complete remission based on duration of disease was 7.5 months (AUG = 0.711). Patients with CD with additional disease had greater difficulty achieving complete remission than those with CD alone based on TWSTRS assessments (P= 0.049). During the study, approximately 17% of all participants reported experiencing adverse reactions that lasted between 1 to 3 weeks before disappearing. CONCLUSION: BoNT is an effective and safe method for treating CD. The maximum remission rates of patients after their first injections are influenced by the duration of their disease. Thus, treatment using BoNT injections must be administered as soon as possible.

RESUMO

Plasma-to-autopsy studies are essential for validation of blood biomarkers and understanding their relation to Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology. Few such studies have been done on phosphorylated tau (p-tau) and those that exist have made limited or no comparison of the different p-tau variants. This study is the first to use immunoprecipitation mass spectrometry (IP-MS) to compare the accuracy of eight different plasma tau species in predicting autopsy-confirmed AD. The sample included 123 participants (AD = 69, non-AD = 54) from the Boston University Alzheimer's disease Research Center who had an available ante-mortem plasma sample and donated their brain. Plasma samples proximate to death were analyzed by targeted IP-MS for six different tryptic phosphorylated (p-tau-181, 199, 202, 205, 217, 231), and two non-phosphorylated tau (195-205, 212-221) peptides. NIA-Reagan Institute criteria were used for the neuropathological diagnosis of AD. Binary logistic regressions tested the association between each plasma peptide and autopsy-confirmed AD status. Area under the receiver operating curve (AUC) statistics were generated using predicted probabilities from the logistic regression models. Odds Ratio (OR) was used to study associations between the different plasma tau species and CERAD and Braak classifications. All tau species were increased in AD compared to non-AD, but p-tau217, p-tau205 and p-tau231 showed the highest fold-changes. Plasma p-tau217 (AUC = 89.8), p-tau231 (AUC = 83.4), and p-tau205 (AUC = 81.3) all had excellent accuracy in discriminating AD from non-AD brain donors, even among those with CDR < 1). Furthermore, p-tau217, p-tau205 and p-tau231 showed the highest ORs with both CERAD (ORp-tau217 = 15.29, ORp-tau205 = 5.05 and ORp-tau231 = 3.86) and Braak staging (ORp-tau217 = 14.29, ORp-tau205 = 5.27 and ORp-tau231 = 4.02) but presented increased levels at different amyloid and tau stages determined by neuropathological examination. Our findings support plasma p-tau217 as the most promising p-tau species for detecting AD brain pathology. Plasma p-tau231 and p-tau205 may additionally function as markers for different stages of the disease.

RESUMO

Background: Insulin resistance (IR) is associated with atherosclerotic plaque progression and the occurrence of stroke, with the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index serving as a surrogate indicator. The present study aimed to investigate the association between TyG index levels and intracranial arterial remodeling in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Methods: Patients with AIS who visited the Neurology Department of the Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University and underwent high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (HR-MRI) between September 2018 and October 2021 were enrolled. A total of 123 patients were finally included in the study, with 81 excluded. The TyG index levels were measured, and the characteristics of intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS) plaques were evaluated using HR-MRI. A logistic regression model was employed to analyze the relationship between TyG index levels and remodeling mode. Patients were divided into two groups, positive remodeling (PR) and non-positive remodeling (non-PR), based on the remodeling index (RI). Results: Patients in the PR group had a higher TyG index than those in the non-PR group {median [interquartile range (IQR)]: 9.11 (8.82-9.51) vs. 8.72 (8.30-9.23), P<0.001}. After adjusting factors such as age and gender, the TyG index was found to be significantly correlated with intracranial arterial PR [odds ratio (OR): 3.169, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.327-7.569, P=0.009]. In non-diabetes mellitus (DM) patients, the TyG index level in the PR group was significantly higher than that in the non-PR group (8.95±0.42 vs. 8.50±0.45, P<0.001), whereas there was no such difference in patients with DM. Conclusions: TyG index was correlated with intracranial vessel PR, indicating that the TyG index level may be a useful marker for predicting intracranial vessel PR.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Previous Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD) research studies have illustrated the significance of studying alterations in white matter (WM). Fewer studies have examined how WM integrity, measured with diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), is associated with volume of gray matter (GM) regions and measures of cognitive function in aged participants spanning the dementia continuum. METHODS: Magnetic resonance imaging and cognitive data were collected from 241 Boston University Alzheimer's Disease Research Center participants who spanned from cognitively normal controls to amnestic mild cognitive impairment to having dementia. Primary DTI tracts of interest were the cingulum ventral (CV) and cingulum dorsal (CD) pathways. GM regions of interest (ROIs) were in the medial temporal lobe (MTL), prefrontal cortex, and retrosplenial cortex. Analyses of covariance models were used to assess differences in WM integrity across groups (control, amnestic mild cognitive impairment, and dementia). Multiple linear regression models were used to assess associations between WM integrity and GM volume, and with measures of memory and executive function. RESULTS: Differences in WM integrity were shown in both cingulum pathways in participants across the dementia continuum. Associations between WM integrity of both cingulum pathways and volume of selected GM ROIs were widespread. Functionally significant associations were found between WM of the CV pathway and memory, independent of MTL GM volume. DISCUSSION: Differences in WM integrity of the cingulum bundle and surrounding GM ROI are likely related to the progression of AD/ADRD. Such differences should continue to be studied, particularly in association with memory performance.

RESUMO

Metallosalen-covalent organic frameworks have recently gained attention in photocatalysis. However, their use in CO2 photoreduction is yet to be reported. Moreover, facile preparation of metallosalen-covalent organic frameworks with good crystallinity remains considerably challenging. Herein, we report a series of metallosalen-covalent organic frameworks produced via a one-step synthesis strategy that does not require vacuum evacuation. Metallosalen-covalent organic frameworks possessing controllable coordination environments of mononuclear and binuclear metal sites are obtained and act as photocatalysts for tunable syngas production from CO2. Metallosalen-covalent organic frameworks obtained via one-step synthesis exhibit higher crystallinity and catalytic activities than those obtained from two-step synthesis. The optimal framework material containing cobalt and triazine achieves a syngas production rate of 19.7 mmol g-1 h-1 (11:8 H2/CO), outperforming previously reported porous crystalline materials. This study provides a facile strategy for producing metallosalen-covalent organic frameworks of high quality and can accelerate their exploration in various applications.

RESUMO

Objective: The incidence of cardiogenic shock cases treated with veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) support has been on the rise. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a significant complication of cardiogenic shock and a frequent serious complication in patients requiring ECMO-supported therapy. AKI is strongly associated with unfavorable patient prognosis. However, there is a paucity of data on the influence of AKI on the prognosis of patients with acute myocardial infarction complicated by cardiogenic shock (AMI-CS) who are receiving ECMO support, particularly with regard to long-term outcomes. Methods: This retrospective observational study included 103 patients in the People's Hospital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region from January 2017 and June 2022. AKI was defined according to Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcome (KDIGO) criteria. Cox regression and logistic regression were used to identify risk factors. Results: In this study, the incidence of AKI was 63.11%, with AKI stage 1, 2, and 3 accounting for 21.36%, 12.62%, and 29.13%, respectively. Patients with severe AKI had significantly higher in-hospital mortality (43.33% vs 27.40%, P < 0.001), 30-day mortality (60.00% vs 31.51%, P = 0.001), and 1-year mortality (63.67% vs 34.25%, P<0.001) than those without severe AKI. Furthermore, severe AKI significantly increased the risk of one-year mortality (HR 10.816, CI 3.118-37.512, P<0.001). Baseline serum creatinine, baseline platelet, and active cardiopulmonary resuscitation were independent predictors of one-year mortality. In addition, baseline white blood cell count, baseline aspartate aminotransferase, baseline alanine aminotransferase (ALT), baseline serum creatinine, preoperative lactate, and postoperative mean arterial pressure were independent risk factors of severe AKI during hospitalization. Conclusion: In patients with AMI-CS receiving ECMO support, AKI is highly prevalent. Development of severe AKI significantly increased the risk of one-year mortality.
