RESUMO
Carcinoma of the penis is rare in this country. A total of 219 patients diagnosed to have carcinoma of the penis were analyzed retrospectively. The primary penile lesion was treated by partial amputation in 160 patients. Forty-two patients had inguinal node dissection. Forty-six patients received radiation therapy to the inguinal region. Sixty-five per cent of the patients with no palpable nodes at initial diagnosis survived for six or more years. Twenty-eight per cent of the patients with palpable nodes survived for three to five years, and 15% for six or more years. Ten per cent of the patients died of a second primary tumor.

Creatine kinase BB isoenzyme (CK-BB) was detected in abnormal amounts in serum samples from 11 of 46 patients with Stage D carcinoma of the prostate by electrophoresis. Thirteen of 46 Stage D patients had elevated acid phosphatase values and 10 of these 13 had elevated CK-BB. CK-BB elevations were less frequent in earlier stages of prostatic cancer; Stage C: 0 of 35, Stage B: 1 of 26, Stage A: 0 of 3 and none in a group of 35 with BPH, prostatitis and bladder cancer. Results of CK-BB by a specific radioimmunoassay correlated well with those obtained by electrophoresis in most cases. Several patients were followed over time and data on CK-BB is presented for this interval. The origin of the CK-BB is still unclear. The BB isoenzyme predominates in prostatic tissue and CK-BB is the fetal form of the enzyme in human muscle and myocardium. The increase in serum CK-BB may be related to increased release of the isoenzyme, either from the prostate itself or from a metastatic lesion, or may represent a release of the fetal form of the enzyme from dedifferentiated tumor tissue.

The formulation of a 5-fluorouracil urethral suppository is described. The suppositories have been found extremely successful in the eradication of intraurethral condylomas. They have provided better patient compliance and dosage monitoring, and have extended patient usefulness to male and female subjects.

A retrospective analysis of 30 patients with primary sarcoma of the bladder and prostate is presented. Prognosis seems to be better in adults irrespective of the type of treatment. The survival rate is poor for children with sarcoma of the prostate. Two children were cured of sarcoma of the bladder by a radical operation. Sarcomas of the bladder and prostate are more common in adults more than 50 years old. The type of treatment and the results are reviewed. The place of multimodal treatment in the management of these sarcomas is discussed.
