The Louisiana Cancer and Lung Trust Fund Board, founded in 1980, continues to move forward in its mission in cancer control, cancer research, and tobacco control. This article summarizes the Board's activities of the past year, including revising the Cancer Control Strategic Plan and participating in a multi-state development project funded by NCI to Bridge the Digital Divide. Listed at the end of this article is a summary of the Board's legislative mandate and its current membership.

The Louisiana Cancer and Lung Trust Fund Board, begun in 1980, continues to move forward in its mission in cancer research and tobacco control. During the last year, the board has created a presence on the World Wide Web and taken steps to implement the Cancer Control Strategic Plan. It is also taking a lead role in the development of the Tobacco Control Coalition. The attached article briefly describes the Louisiana Cancer and Lung Trust Fund Board and its current activities. The Board was established by legislation in 1980 to: (1) determine eligibility for research funds, and (2) establish policies for the operation of the statewide tumor registry. There are currently 12 seats on the Board, each appointed by the Governor. The Grants Program has funded 66 research projects since 1984, focusing on cancer and pulmonary diseases. This represents a total of $1,731,853 of state funds used for research at academic institutions and state agencies throughout Louisiana.
