RESUMO

Dural spread from prostate cancer (PC) is exceedingly uncommon. We report on a 62-year-old man suffering from disseminated PC with osseous metastases who presented with a parietal skull metastasis along with a circumscribed nodular thickening of the adjacent dura. Magnetic resonance imaging findings suggested a benign reactive condition of the dura which, however, histologically turned out to be a dural metastasis. Therefore, the present case report stresses the notion that very rarely, disseminated PC might present with clinically unsuspected dural metastases radiologically mimicking a benign condition.

RESUMO

Infiltrative growing scalp tumors with alopecia areata may be a sign of malignancy elsewhere, for example metastasis of a malignant melanoma or breast cancer. We describe the clinical case of a 78-year-old woman with a scalp tumor as the first diagnostic sign of breast cancer.

RESUMO

On the basis of synchronization of three carbon-14 (14C)-dated lacustrine sequences from Sweden with tree ring and ice core records, the absolute age of the Younger Dryas-Preboreal climatic shift was determined to be 11,450 to 11,390 +/- 80 years before the present. A 150-year-long cooling in the early Preboreal, associated with rising Delta14C values, is evident in all records and indicates an ocean ventilation change. This cooling is similar to earlier deglacial coolings, and box-model calculations suggest that they all may have been the result of increased freshwater forcing that inhibited the strength of the North Atlantic heat conveyor, although the Younger Dryas may have begun as an anomalous meltwater event.

RESUMO

The Henoch-Schönlein-syndrome, or anaphylactoid purpura, is usually a childhood disease. The progess of this syndrome in adults was observed in 4 cases at our clinic. An elevated IgA level in the serum with a normal complement value seems to be of immunological interest. By immunohistological methods fibrin and IgA could be demonstrated in skin and kidney biopsies; in glomerulae C3c was observed, occasionally accompanied by Properdin-factor-B. These findings differentiate this disease from other allergic superficial vasculitids by the detection of IgG and complement; while at the same time some similarities are indicated to the so called "Berger Nephritis" with comparable kidney findings.

RESUMO

During the last 7 years a well defined, characteristic disease has been observed in babies of the department of dermatology of the university clinic of Innsbruck. Because of the localisation and probable pathogenesis we have coined the term "Windelsoor" (diaper thrush) for it. Clinical picture, mycological and histological findings, therapeutical experience with therapy and follow-up results are reported. With reference to the anglo-american literature on this subject the pathogenesis of this disease is discussed.
