RESUMO
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to evaluate the evidence of validity and accuracy for the Mindful Self-Care Scale-Brief (B-MSCS) in Brazil among family caregivers of people with cancer. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study with a sample of 203 family caregivers of people with cancer. The instruments used in this study were the following: B-MSCS, Brief Resilience Scale, and Brief Scale for Spiritual/Religious Coping. Exploratory factor analysis was carried out using the principal axis factoring method and direct oblimin oblique rotation, and confirmatory factor analysis using the robust weighted least squares means and variance adjusted estimation method and GEOMIM oblique rotation. The internal consistency of the latent factors was measured using Cronbach's alpha coefficients. RESULTS: The 6-factor model showed good fit to the data, with satisfactory reliability indices and adequate representation of the scale's internal structure. The results that can support arguments in favor of validity evidence based on internal structure for the B-MSCS-Brazilian version (BR) relate to a 19-item version which, grouped into 6 latent factors, explained 46.47% of the variance. The factor solution reproduced 79.2% of the theoretically expected structure and 5 items were excluded. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the factors in the B-MSCS-BR ranged from 0.58 to 0.84. Positive religious/spiritual coping had a direct association with the B-MSCS-BR factors, with the exception of the Physical Care factor (r = 0.033, p = 0.635). Negative spiritual/religious coping was inversely associated with the Mindful Relaxation (r = -0.160, p = 0.023), Supportive Relationships (r = -0.142, p = 0.043), and Mindful Awareness factors (r = -0.140, p = 0.045). There were no associations between the B-MSCS-BR factors and resilience. SIGNIFICANCE OF RESULTS: The findings reveal that the B-MSCS (19-item) is a valid, reliable, and culturally-appropriate instrument to examine the practice of mindful self-care by family caregivers of people with cancer in Brazil.
RESUMO
BACKGROUND: PSMA (prostate-specific membrane antigen) protein is heavily expressed in the proliferating microvasculature of high-grade gliomas (HGG) and brain metastases (BM). This research aimed to assess [99mTc]Tc-iPSMA SPECT brain imaging as a potential specific diagnosis of HGG and BM by PSMA-targeting in their proliferating vasculature. METHODS: Forty-one patients, with suspected brain tumors, as detected by enhanced MRI scanning, were enrolled to undergo preoperative [99mTc]Tc-iPSMA SPECT brain imaging. Semiquantitative image analyses, to evaluate the maximum target-to-background ratio (TBRmax), were performed. All diagnoses were histopathologically confirmed. PSMA expression was evaluated by immunohistochemistry (IHC) in 11 brain tumor tissues. TBRmax values were correlated with IHC results and tumor WHO grade (HGG vs LGG). RESULTS: [99mTc]Tc-iPSMA images showed increased uptake in BM, HGG, and recurrent gliomas (TBRmax of 25.1 ± 7.1, 18.5 ± 9.0, 15.0 ± 9.9, respectively), and was negative in treatment-naive patients with LGG and reactive gliosis. PSMA was highly expressed in the vascular endothelium of grade IV gliomas and BM, while its expression was extremely low in LGG and completely absent in gliosis. By using 2.8 as a threshold value for TBRmax, the specificity, sensitivity, PPV, NPV and accuracy were 100%, 94%, 100%, 77% and 95%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The results of this pilot study show that [99mTc]Tc-iPSMA SPECT brain imaging is a specific and potentially useful neuroimaging tool for assessing tumoral neovasculature formation in gliomas and brain metastases.

TheraCalTM LC is a resin-modified calcium silicate (Ca) resin (SMCR) that has proven to be an ideal material for dentin-pulp treatment due to its high rate of calcium formation. Biomaterials due to their Ca content tend to have an increase in their bioavailability, stimulating the formation of the dental bridge through the cells involved in the formation of mineralized tissues, promoting the differentiation of fibroblasts in odontoblasts and increasing the activity of the pyrophosphate enzyme responsible in dentin mineralization. The present study aimed to evaluate the inflammatory response to TheracalTM LC subcutaneously in Wistar rats. Six Wistar strain rats were used in which four subcutaneous surgical pockets were made. Each of these pockets was determined as a different quadrant, containing the following implants: 1 TheracalTM LC in polyethylene tube, 2 polyethylene tubes, 3 TheracalTM LC direct and 4 as control. The histological samples were processed, and different cell types were evaluated by light microscopy at 100X using the H&E and AT pH 2.3 stains. The results showed that there are significant differences in all cell types observed during the different exposure times. The differences in the cell types observed could be due to the exposure time to TheracalTM LC, to the polyethylene tube and to both. The evaluated tissue of the polyethylene tube implant and the polyethylene tube with TheracalTM LC present a greater inflammatory response, unlike in the tissue implanted with TheracalTM LC directly.
