RESUMO

Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have been reported to have hepatotoxic effects. However, it is unclear whether they are linked to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). This nested case-control study focused on the epidemiological links between PFAS and the prevalence of NAFLD. We selected 476 new cases of NAFLD and 952 age- and sex-matched controls from the Jinchang cohort population between 2014 and 2019. Serum concentrations of PFAS were measured using high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS). Only PFAS with a detection rate of ≥90 % were included for analysis, which included PFPeA, PFOA, PFNA, PFHxS, PFOS, and 9Cl-PF3ONS. The relationship between single and co-exposure to PFAS and the occurrence of NAFLD was evaluated using conditional logistic regression, Quantile g-computation (QgC), and Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) model. Logistic regression indicated that PFPeA, PFOA, and 9Cl-PF3ONS were positive correlation with the incidence of NAFLD after adjusting for confounders, with odds ratios (OR) and 95 % confidence interval (CI) of 3.13 (95 % CI: 2.53, 3.86), 1.39 (95 % CI: 1.12, 1.73), and 1.41 (95 % CI: 1.20, 1.66), respectively. PFNA, PFHxS, and PFOS were nonlinearly and negatively associated with the incidence of NAFLD, with OR (95 % CI) of 0.53 (0.46, 0.62), 0.83 (0.73, 0.95), and 0.52 (0.44, 0.61), respectively. QgC showed a significant joint effect of PFAS mixture on NAFLD onset (OR: 1.52, 95 % CI: 1.24, 1.88). BKMR showed a weak positive trend between PFAS mixtures and NAFLD incidence. Positive correlations were primarily driven by PFPeA and 9Cl-PF3ONS, while negative correlations were mainly influenced by PFNA and PFOS. The BKMR model also suggested that there was an interaction between PFOS and PFNA and other four PFAS compounds. In conclusion, our findings suggest that individual and co-exposure to PFAS is associated with a risk of NAFLD onset.

RESUMO

The imaging process of the light field (LF) camera with a micro-lens array (MLA) may suffer from multiple aberrations. It is thus difficult to precisely calibrate the intrinsic hardware parameters and calculate the corresponding point spread function (PSF). To build an aberration-aware solution with better generalization, we propose an end-to-end imaging model based on the differentiable ray tracing. The input end is the point source location, and the output end is the rendered LF image, namely, PSF. Specially, a projection method is incorporated into the imaging model, eliminating the huge memory overhead induced by a large array of periodic elements. Taking captured PSF images as the ground truth, the LF camera is calibrated with the genetic algorithm initially and then the gradient-based optimization. This method is promising to be used in various LF camera applications, especially in challenging imaging conditions with severe aberrations.

RESUMO

Thyroid cancer affects 1.3 percent of the population, with rates of occurrence rising in recent years (approximately 2 percent per year). Thyroid cancer is a common endocrine cancer with an annual increase in occurrence. Although the general prognosis for differentiated subtypes is favorable, the rate of mortality linked with thyroid cancer has been steadily progressing. The presence of suspicious thyroid nodules necessitates more diagnostic testing, including laboratory evaluation, additional imaging, and biopsy. For clinical staging and appropriate patient therapy design, accurate diagnosis is necessary. In this paper, we examined the application value of ultrasound imaging diagnosis in the clinical staging of thyroid tumor in this research. The benefit of early diagnosis is determined in this article using ultrasonography reports from Chinese patients. Images of benign and malignant thyroid nodules were collected and annotated in this work, and deep learning-based image recognition and diagnostic system was built utilizing the adaptive wavelet transform-based AdaBoost algorithm (AWT-AA). The system's efficacy in diagnosing thyroid nodules was assessed, and the use of ultrasound imaging in clinical practice was studied. The variables that had a significant impact on malignant nodules were studied using logistic multiple regression analysis. The sensitivity and specificity of ultrasonography thyroid imaging reporting and data system (TI-RADS) categorization outcomes for benign and malignant tumors were also calculated.

RESUMO

The Jinchang Cohort was an ongoing 20-year ambispective cohort with unique metal exposures to an occupational population. From January 2014 to December 2019, the Jinchang Cohort has completed three phases of follow-up. The baseline cohort was completed from June 2011 to December 2013, and a total of 48 001 people were included. Three phases of follow-ups included 46 713, 41 888, and 40 530 participants, respectively. The death data were collected from 2001 to 2020. The epidemiological, physical examination, physiological, and biochemical data of the cohort were collected at baseline and during follow-up. Biological specimens were collected on the baseline to establish a biological specimen bank. The concentrations of metals in urine and serum were detected by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The new areas of research aim to study the all-cases mortality, the burden of diseases, heavy metals and diseases, and the course of the chain from disease to high-risk outcomes using a combination of macro and micro means, which provided a scientific basis to explore the pathogenesis of multi-etiology and multi-disease and to evaluate the effects of the intervention measures in the population.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the influencing factors of daytime sleepiness in patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) and the correlation between daytime sleepiness and pulse oxygen decline rate in patients with severe OSAHS. METHODS: From January 2018 to April 2021, 246 consecutive patients with OSAHS diagnosed by polysomnography (PSG) in our hospital were selected. All patients were grouped according to the minimum nocturnal oxygen saturation and apnea hypopnea index (AHI). There were 33 cases in the no sleep hypoxia group, 34 cases in the mild hypoxia group, 119 cases in the moderate hypoxia group, and 60 cases in the severe hypoxia group. There were 30 cases in the simple snoring group, 55 cases in the mild OSAHS group, 48 cases in the moderate OSAHS group, and 113 cases in the severe OSAHS group. The Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) scores of each group were compared. All patients were grouped according to ESS score. Those with score ≥9 were included in the lethargy group (n = 118), and those with score ≤10 were included in the no lethargy group (n = 128). Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to explore the influencing factors of daytime sleepiness in OSAHS patients. Pearson correlation analysis showed the correlation between ESS score and pulse oxygen decline rate in patients with severe OSAHS. RESULTS: The ESS score of the severe hypoxia group > the moderate hypoxia group > the mild hypoxia group > the no sleep hypoxia group. There was significant difference among the groups (F = 19.700, P < 0.0001). There were significant differences between the severe hypoxia group and other groups and between the moderate hypoxia group and the no sleep hypoxia group and the mild hypoxia group (P < 0.05). The ESS score of the severe OSAHS group > the moderate OSAHS group > the mild OSAHS group > the simple snoring group. There was significant difference among the groups (F = 19.000, P < 0.0001). There were significant differences between the severe OSAHS group and other groups and between the moderate OSAHS group and the simple snoring group (P < 0.05). Univariate analysis showed that BMI, neck circumference, snoring degree, total apnea hypopnea time, AHI, micro arousal index (MAI), oxygen saturation (CT90%), lowest oxygen saturation (LSaO2), and mean oxygen saturation (MSaO2) were the influencing factors of daytime sleepiness in OSAHS patients (P < 0.05). Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that AHI and CT90% were independent risk factors for daytime sleepiness in OSAHS patients (P < 0.05). Pearson correlation analysis showed that there was a positive correlation between ESS score and pulse oxygen decline rate in patients with severe OSAHS (r = 0.765, P < 0.0001). CONCLUSION: OSAHS patients may be accompanied by daytime sleepiness in varying degrees, which may be independently related to AHI and CT90%. The degree of daytime sleepiness in patients with severe OSAHS may be closely related to the decline rate of pulse oxygen, which should be paid great attention in clinic.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Accumulating data have reported that GSTM1 polymorphism may be related to nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) and laryngeal cancer (LC). This meta-analysis was performed to investigate the relationship between GSTM1 polymorphism and risks of NPC and LC. METHODS: Pubmed, Embase, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) databases were searched for potential articles. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to evaluate the relationship of GSTM1 polymorphism with the risks of NPC and LC. I2>50% or P<0.05 indicates significant heterogeneity. When heterogeneity existed, the random-effects model was used to pool data, otherwise, the fixed-effects model was adopted. Publication bias was detected by Begg's funnel plot and Egger's regression. Quality of each study was evaluated by Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. RESULTS: Thirty-two eligible articles were included. Pooled outcome suggested the significant relationship of GSTM1 null genotype with increased risk of LC (OR =1.28, 95% CI =1.05-1.54). Compared with hospital-based (HB) population, GSTM1 null genotype was also related to increased risk of LC (OR =1.38, 95% CI =1.06-1.80). Positive relationship of GSTM1 null genotype with enhanced risk of NPC was observed (OR =1.43, 95% CI =1.26-1.63). A similar trend was also observed in the subgroup analysis by source of control (population-based [PB]: OR =1.39, 95% CI =1.18-1.63; HB: OR =1.52, 95% CI =1.22-1.89). CONCLUSION: GSTM1 null genotype is related to increased risk of NPC and LC.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the level of malondiadehyde (MDA), antisuperoxide anion and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in liver of rats poisoned by nickel carbonyl in order to discuss the mechanism of acute nickel carbonyl poisoning. METHODS: Healthy SD rats were intoxicated acutely by different concentrations of nickel carbonyl (20, 135 and 250mg/m3 for low, middle and high dose groups, respectively). SD rats inhaled by chlorine (250mg/m3 for chlorine group) were used as positive control group and other healthy SD rats as normal control group. Liver of animals was taken at different time points after exposure. The levels of MDA, iNOS and antisuperoxide anion were detected by biochemical assay. RESULTS: The contents of MDA and antisuperoxide anion in the liver of high dose group were significantly higher than that of other exposed groups and control group (P < 0.01). The contents of iNOS in middle and high dose group were higher than that in low dose group and control group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The oxidative damage in the liver of SD rats could be induced by carbonyl nickel in air with increasing concentrations and in an obvious dose-response relationships.
