RESUMO

Quorum quenching (QQ) can mitigate biofouling in membrane bioreactors (MBRs) by inhibiting cell-to-cell communication. However, it is difficult to maintain long-term QQ activity. Here, a novel microbial isolator composed of tubular microfiltration membranes was developed to separate QQ bacteria (Rhodococcus sp. BH4) from sludge. The time to reach a transmembrane pressure of 50 kPa was delayed by 69.55 % (p = 0.002, Student's t test) in MBR with QQ microbial isolator (MBR-Q), compared to that in the control MBR (MBR-C) during stable operation. The concentration of proteins in the extracellular polymeric substances of sludge was reduced by 20.61 % in MBR-Q relative to MBR-C. The results of the bacterial community analyses indicated less enrichment of fouling-associated bacteria (e.g., Acinetobacter) but a higher abundance of QQ enzymes in MBR-Q than in MBR-C. This environmentally friendly technique can decrease the cleaning frequency and increase the membrane lifespan, thus improving the sustainability of MBR technology.

As the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is increasing rapidly and its consequences are severe, effective intervention and prevention, including sleep-related interventions, are urgently needed. As a component of sleep architecture, naps, alone or in combination with nocturnal sleep, may influence the onset and progression of T2DM. Overall, napping is associated with an increased risk of T2DM in women, especially in postmenopausal White women. Our study showed that napping >30 minutes (min) increased the risk of T2DM by 8-21%. In addition, non-optimal nighttime sleep increases T2DM risk, and this effect combines with the effect of napping. For nondiabetic patients, napping >30 min could increase the risks of high HbA1c levels and impaired fasting glucose (IFG), which would increase the risk of developing T2DM later on. For diabetic patients, prolonged napping may further impair glycemic control and increase the risk of developing diabetic complications (e.g., diabetic nephropathy) in the distant future. The following three mechanisms are suggested as interpretations for the association between napping and T2DM. First, napping >30 min increases the levels of important inflammatory factors, including interleukin 6 and C-reactive protein, elevating the risks of inflammation, associated adiposity and T2DM. Second, the interaction between postmenopausal hormonal changes and napping further increases insulin resistance. Third, prolonged napping may also affect melatonin secretion by interfering with nighttime sleep, leading to circadian rhythm disruption and further increasing the risk of T2DM. This review summarizes the existing evidence on the effect of napping on T2DM and provides detailed information for future T2DM intervention and prevention strategies that address napping.

Quantitative studies of nanoplastics (NPs) abundance on agricultural crops are crucial for understanding the environmental impact and potential health risks of NPs. However, the actual extent of NP contamination in different crops remains unclear, and therefore insufficient quantitative data are available for adequate exposure assessments. Herein, a method with nitric acid digestion, multiple organic extraction combined with pyrolysis gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) quantification was used to determine the chemical composition and mass concentration of NPs in different crops (cowpea, flowering cabbage, rutabagas, and chieh-qua). Recoveries of 74.2-109.3% were obtained for different NPs in standard products (N = 6, RSD <9.6%). The limit of detection (LOD) and the limit of quantitation (LOQ) were 0.02-0.5 µg and 0.06-1.5 µg, respectively. The detection method for NPs exhibited good external calibration curves and linearity with 0.99. The results showed that poly (vinylchloride) (PVC), poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET), polyethylene (PE), and polyadiohexylenediamine (PA66) NPs could be detected in crop samples, although the accumulation levels associated with the various crops varied significantly. PVC (N.D.-954.3 mg kg-1, dry weight (DW)) and PE (101.3-462.9 mg kg-1, DW) NPs were the dominant components in the samples of all four crop species, while high levels of PET (414.3-1430.1 mg kg-1, DW) NPs were detected in cowpea samples. Furthermore, there were notable differences in the accumulation levels of various edible crop parts, such as stems (60.2%) > leaves (39.8%) in flowering cabbage samples and peas (58.8%) > pods (41.2%) in cowpea samples. This study revealed the actual extent of NP contamination in different types of crops and provided crucial reference data for future research.

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to explore the intervention effects of narrative nursing on the reproductive concerns of cervical cancer patients of childbearing age undergoing surgical treatment. METHODS: Patients undergoing cervical cancer surgery with moderate to severe levels of reproductive concerns, treated between January and December 2023 at a tertiary Grade-A oncology hospital in China, were selected as the research subjects. Patients were randomized into an intervention group and a control group, each consisting of 33 patients. The control group received standard nursing care, while the intervention group received a narrative nursing intervention in addition to standard care. The changes in the levels of reproductive concerns, post-traumatic growth, and quality of life scores before and after the intervention were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: After the intervention, the reproductive concerns scores of the cervical cancer patients in the intervention group (32.53 ± 4.77) were significantly lower than those in the control group (59.29 ± 3.24), with a statistically significant difference (t = 26.143, p < 0.001). The post-traumatic growth scores in the intervention group (86.78 ± 3.52) were significantly higher than those in the control group (68.06 ± 6.24), with a statistically significant difference (t = -14.595, p < 0.001). The quality of life scores in the intervention group (149.00 [IQR = 8.75]) were significantly higher than those in the control group (129.00 [IQR = 13.00]), with a statistically significant difference (z = -5.799, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Narrative nursing can effectively alleviate reproductive concerns in cervical cancer patients undergoing surgical treatment, promote positive psychological changes post-trauma, and improve patients' quality of life.

In China, animal feeds are frequently contaminated with a range of mycotoxins, with Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) and T-2 toxin (T-2) being two highly toxic mycotoxins. This study investigates the combined nephrotoxicity of AFB1 and T-2 on PK15 cells and murine renal tissues and their related oxidative stress mechanisms. PK15 cells were treated with the respective toxin concentrations for 24 h, and oxidative stress-related indicators were assessed. The results showed that the combination of AFB1 and T-2 led to more severe cellular damage and oxidative stress compared to exposure to the individual toxins (p < 0.05). In the in vivo study, pathological examination revealed that the kidney tissue of mice exposed to the combined toxins showed signs of glomerular atrophy. The contents of oxidative stress-related indicators were significantly increased in the kidney tissue (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that the combined toxins cause significant oxidative damage to mouse kidneys. The study highlights the importance of considering the combined effects of mycotoxins in animal feed, particularly AFB1 and T-2, which can lead to severe nephrotoxicity and oxidative stress in PK15 cells and mouse kidneys. The findings have important implications for animal feed safety and regulatory policy.

The regulation of microbial subpopulations in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) with desired functions can guarantee nutrient removal. In nature, "good fences make good neighbors," which can be applied to engineering microbial consortia. Herein, a membrane-based segregator (MBSR) was proposed, where porous membranes not only promote the diffusion of metabolic products but also isolate incompatible microbes. The MBSR was integrated with an anoxic/aerobic membrane bioreactor (i.e., an experimental MBR). The long-term operation showed that the experimental MBR exhibited higher nitrogen removal (10.45 ± 2.73 mg/L total nitrogen) than the control MBR (21.68 ± 4.23 mg/L) in the effluent. The MBSR resulted in much lower oxygen reduction potential in the anoxic tank of the experimental MBR (-82.00 mV) compared to that of the control MBR (83.25 mV). The lower oxygen reduction potential can inevitably aid in the occurrence of denitrification. The 16S rRNA sequencing showed that the MBSR significantly enriched acidogenic consortia, which yielded considerable volatile fatty acids by fermenting the added carbon sources and allowed efficient transfer of these small molecules to the denitrifying community. Moreover, the sludge communities of the experimental MBR harbored a higher abundance of denitrifying bacteria than those of the control MBR. Metagenomic analysis further corroborated these sequencing results. The spatially structured microbial communities in the experimental MBR system demonstrate the practicability of the MBSR, achieving nitrogen removal efficiency superior to that of mixed populations. Our study provides an engineering method for modulating the assembly and metabolic division of labor of subpopulations in WWTPs. IMPORTANCE This study provides an innovative and applicable method for regulating subpopulations (activated sludge and acidogenic consortia), which contributes to the precise control of the metabolic division of labor in biological wastewater treatment processes.

PURPOSE: CPAP is the "gold standard" treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Current CPAP models have developed additional functions including automatic CPAP and pressure relief. However, CPAP adherence has not improved over the last three decades. Many patients in low-income countries cannot afford these CPAP devices. A novel simple CPAP device with a fixed pressure without pressure controller was developed. METHODS: Manual CPAP pressure titration was performed in 127 patients with OSA. Six patients with a titration pressure higher than 11 cmH2O and 14 patients who could not tolerate CPAP were excluded, leaving 107 participating in the following 2 studies. In study one, 54 of 107 patients were treated by both conventional fixed CPAP and simple CPAP in random order. In the second study, another 53 patients were treated by both autoCPAP in automatic function and simple CPAP in random order. Simple CPAP was fixed at 10 cmH2O, 8 cmH2O, and 6 cmH2O for patients whose titration pressure was between 9-10, 7-8, and ≤ 6 cmH2O, respectively. Conventional fixed CPAP device was set exactly the same as manual titration pressure. RESULTS: All patients whose manual titration pressure ≤ 10 cmH2O were effectively treated by simple CPAP (AHI 40.7 ± 2.3 events/h before vs 2.5 ± 0.3 events/h after, p < 0.001). Patients expressed similar preferences for simple CPAP, autoCPAP, and conventional fixed CPAP (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: We conclude that a novel simple CPAP is an alternative treatment for most patients with OSA, which may widen access to CPAP therapy in the developing countries because of its low cost.

To alleviate worldwide food safety issues caused by metal contamination, an easily available material is urgently needed for extensive application. In this study, calcium magnesium phosphate fertiliser (Pcm) was applied to a Cd/Cu co-contaminated paddy field in comparison with limestone and organic fertiliser. The results showed that only Pcm is effective in simultaneously reducing Cd uptake by 56.7% and Cu uptake by 36.2% in Oryza saliva L. (rice). The rice yield, reduced mainly by Cu, also increased by 30.1% with respect to the enhancement of soil pH, cation exchange capacity and availability of phosphorus, as well as the reduction in availabilities of Cd and Cu. Additionally, Pcm dramatically shaped the bacterial community structure, with Proteobacteria and Firmicutes predominant in the soils. The beneficial genera Exiguobacterium, Citrobacter, and Acinetobacter, which are vital for phosphate dissolution and Cd/Cu immobilisation, were also enriched. The results demonstrated that the application of Pcm at 0.4% (w:w) was able to enhance both crop quantity and quality in Cd/Cu co-contaminated paddy fields by reducing Cu/Cd availability, promoting rice yield, and reshaping bacterial community structures.

Explainability is crucial for probing graph neural networks (GNNs), answering questions like "Why the GNN model makes a certain prediction?". Feature attribution is a prevalent technique of highlighting the explanatory subgraph in the input graph, which plausibly leads the GNN model to make its prediction. Various attribution methods have been proposed to exploit gradient-like or attention scores as the attributions of edges, then select the salient edges with top attribution scores as the explanation. However, most of these works make an untenable assumption - the selected edges are linearly independent - thus leaving the dependencies among edges largely unexplored, especially their coalition effect. We demonstrate unambiguous drawbacks of this assumption - making the explanatory subgraph unfaithful and verbose. To address this challenge, we propose a reinforcement learning agent, Reinforced Causal Explainer (RC-Explainer). It frames the explanation task as a sequential decision process - an explanatory subgraph is successively constructed by adding a salient edge to connect the previously selected subgraph. Technically, its policy network predicts the action of edge addition, and gets a reward that quantifies the action's causal effect on the prediction. Such reward accounts for the dependency of the newly-added edge and the previously-added edges, thus reflecting whether they collaborate together and form a coalition to pursue better explanations. It is trained via policy gradient to optimize the reward stream of edge sequences. As such, RC-Explainer is able to generate faithful and concise explanations, and has a better generalization power to unseen graphs. When explaining different GNNs on three graph classification datasets, RC-Explainer achieves better or comparable performance to state-of-the-art approaches w.r.t. two quantitative metrics: predictive accuracy, contrastivity, and safely passes sanity checks and visual inspections. INTRODUCTION: The main emphasis of the research about adjuvant imatinib for high-risk gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) is prolonging the treatment duration and ignores the heterogeneous that 10-year recurrence rates ranged from about 20%-100%. Thus, this study evaluated the effect of different durations of adjuvant imatinib on outcomes in high-risk GISTs to explore the feasibility of individual treatment. METHODS: We analyzed 855 high-risk GIST patients from three centers who underwent macroscopically complete resection between December 2007 and September 2020. The patients were divided into training (n =564) and two validation cohorts (n = 238 and53) based on their source. Recurrence-free survival (RFS) was the primary point. Cox multivariate analysis was used to develop the nomogram. C-index, time-dependent area under the curves, and calibration plots were used to assess the performance of the nomogram. RESULTS: Univariate analysis showed that longer adjuvant imatinib was significantly associated with better 5-year RFS (p < 0.0001). Further investigation identified that the same high-risk patients with lower tumor-associated recurrence risk benefitted little from prolonged treatment and that the recommended adjuvant imatinib duration was insufficient for those with higher recurrence risk. A nomogram for predicting 2-, 3-, and 5-year RFS based on different treatment durations and four major risk factors, namely, tumor site, size, mitotic count, and rupture status, was built and validated, with a C-index of 0.82, 0.74, and 0.70 in training and two external validation cohorts, respectively. An online dynamic nomogram was further developed for clinical applications (https://ruolinliu666.shinyapps.io/GIST/), offering predictive recurrence rates based on different treatment durations and tumor features. CONCLUSIONS: We developed a nomogram to predict the recurrence risk for high-risk patients according to tumor features and treatment durations of imatinib to help physicians on decision-making for individualized treatment duration.

Pseudorabies, caused by pseudorabies virus (PRV), is the main highly infectious disease that severely affects the pig industry globally. T-2 toxin (T2), a significant mycotoxin, is widely spread in food and feeds and shows high toxicity to mammals. The potential mechanism of the interaction between viruses and toxins is of great research value because revealing this mechanism may provide new ideas for their joint prevention and control. In this study, we investigated the effect of T2 on PRV replication and the mechanism of action. The results showed that at a low dose (10 nM), T2 had no significant effect on porcine kidney 15 (PK15) cell viability. However, this T2 concentration alleviated PRV-induced cell injury and increased cell survival time. Additionally, the number of PK15 cells infected with PRV significantly reduced by T2 treatment. Similarly, T2 significantly decreased the copy number of PRV. Investigation of the mechanism revealed that 10 nM T2 significantly inhibits PRV replication and leads to downregulation of oxidative stress- and apoptosis-related genes. These results suggest that oxidative stress and apoptosis are involved in the inhibition of PRV replication in PK15 cells by low-concentration T2. Taken together, we demonstrated the protective effects of T2 against PRV infection. A low T2 concentration inhibited the replication of PRV in PK15 cells, and this process was accompanied by downregulation of the oxidative stress and apoptosis signaling pathways. Our findings partly explain the interaction mechanism between T2 and PRV, relating to oxidative stress and apoptosis, though further research is required.

Walnut green husk (WGH) is a common agricultural waste, but it may be conducive to phytoremediation of heavy metals owing to its abundant phenolic hydroxyl, carboxyl, and other functional groups. In this study, WGH solution was used as an enhancer in the phytoextraction process via Sedum plumbizincicola, a hyperaccumulator of Zn and Cd. Microbial responses in the soil and plants were seamlessly analyzed to determine the underlying mechanisms of heavy metal extraction in this process. The results showed that the addition of 0.05 g/mL WGH solution increased the accumulation of Cd (by 153%) and Zn (by 220%) in plants as well as the availabilities of Cd (by 29.46%) and Zn (by 9.71%) in the soil, which can be attributed to an increase in the relative abundance of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria that benefit phytoextraction. Furthermore, co-occurrence network analysis indicated the keystone taxa in the microbial community. Particularly, one of the keystone taxa, Pseudomonas, was also identified as distinct taxon in soil, and it was dominant among the endophytic bacteria. These results indicated that Pseudomonas, a taxon responded to WGH solution, may play a key role in enhanced phytoextraction in both soil and plant root. These results help to a better understanding of the microbial mechanisms for heavy metal accumulation in hyperaccumulator.

The vertical migrations of toxic and persistent short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs) in soils as well as the microbial responses have been reported, however, there is a paucity of data on the resulting groundwater contamination. Here, we determined the concentration and congener profile of SCCPs in the groundwater beneath a production plant of chlorinated paraffins (CPs) and characterized the microbial community to explore their responses to SCCPs. Results showed that SCCPs ranged from not detected to 70.3 µg/L, with C13-CPs (11.2-65.8%) and Cl7-CPs (27.2-50.6%), in mass ratio, as the dominant groups. Similar to the distribution pattern in soils, SCCPs in groundwater were distributed in hotspot pattern. CP synthesis was the source of SCCPs in groundwater and the entire contamination plume significantly migrated downgradient, while there was an apparent hysteresis of C13-CP migration. Groundwater microbial community was likely shaped by both hydrogeological condition (pH and depth) and SCCPs. Specifically, the microbial community responded to the contamination by forming a co-occurrence network with "small world" feature, where Desulfobacca, Desulfomonile, Ferritrophicum, Methylomonas, Syntrophobacter, Syntrophorhabdus, Syntrophus, and Thermoanaerobaculum were the keystone taxa. Furthermore, the interrelations between bacterial taxa and SCCPs indicated that the microbial community might cooperate to achieve the dechlorination and mineralization of SCCPs through either anaerobic organohalide respiration mainly functioned by the keystone taxa, or cometabolic degradation processes functioned by Aquabacterium and Hydrogenophaga. Results of this study would provide a better understanding of the environmental behavior and ecological effects of SCCPs in groundwater systems.

OBJECTIVE: Gastric cancer is one of the most common gastrointestinal malignancies. miRNAs (microRNAs) have been reported to play a pivotal role in the tumorigenesis of gastric cancer. However, the role of miR-643 in gastric cancer is not fully understood. METHODS: The expression of miR-643 in gastric cancer cell lines was detected by qRT-PCR (quantitative reverse transcription PCR). Cell viability, apoptosis, migration, and invasion were assessed using the Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8), colony formation, flow cytometry, and wound scratch and Transwell assays, respectively. The target gene of miR-643 was predicted by bioinformatics analysis and validated using luciferase reporter assay. RESULTS: The expression level of miR-643 in gastric cancer cell lines was lower than in the normal gastric epithelium cell line (GES-1). Overexpression of miR-643 inhibited cell viability and colony formation but promoted cell apoptosis in gastric cancer. Transwell invasion assay and in vitro scratch assay evidenced that miR-643 overexpression inhibited gastric cancer cell migration and invasion. Bioinformatics analysis revealed that miR-643 could directly target TXNDC9 (Thioredoxin domain containing 9), and luciferase reporter assay validated this result. Further analysis showed that miR-643 mimics caused a significant reduction of TXNDC9 in gastric cancer cells. Moreover, TXNDC9 overexpression reversed the effects of miR-643 mimics on gastric cancer cell viability, invasion, and migration. CONCLUSION: miR-643 functions as a potential tumor suppressor in gastric cancer by inhibiting cell viability, colony formation, migration, and invasion via targeting TXNDC9, which provides a novel target for the diagnostic treatment of gastric cancer.

Limited progress has been made in the treatment of gastric adenocarcinoma (GAC) in recent years, but the potential of immunotherapy in GAC is worthy of consideration. The purpose of this study was to develop a reliable, personalized signature based on immune genes to predict the prognosis of GAC. Here, we identified two groups of patients with significantly different prognoses by performing unsupervised clustering analysis of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database based on 881 immune genes. The immune signature was constructed with a training set composed of 350 GAC samples from the TCGA and subsequently validated with 431 samples from GSE84437, 432 samples from GSE26253, and 145 GAC samples from real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction data. This classification system can also be used to predict prognosis in different clinical subgroups. Further analysis suggested that high-risk patients were characterized by low immune scores, distinctive immune cell proportions, different immune checkpoint profiles, and a low tumor mutational burden. Ultimately, the signature was identified as an independent prognostic factor. In general, the signature can accurately predict recurrence and overall survival in patients with GAC and may serve as a powerful prognostic tool to further optimize cancer immunotherapy.

Childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (cALL) still represents a major cause of disease-related death in children. This study aimed to explore the prognostic value of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in cALL. We downloaded lncRNA expression profiles from the TARGET and GEO databases. Univariate, least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and multivariate Cox regression analyses were applied to identify lncRNA-based signatures. We identified an eight-lncRNA signature (LINC00630, HDAC2-AS2, LINC01278, AL356599.1, AC114490.1, AL132639.3, FUT8.AS1, and TTC28.AS1), which separated the patients into two groups with significantly different overall survival rates. A nomogram based on the signature, BCR ABL1 status and white blood cell count at diagnosis was developed and showed good accuracy for predicting the 3-, 5- and 7-year survival probability of cALL patients. The C-index values of the nomogram in the training and internal validation set reached 0.8 (95% CI, 0.757 to 0.843) and 0.806 (95% CI, 0.728 to 0.884), respectively. The nomogram proposed in this study objectively and accurately predicted the prognosis of cALL. In vitro experiments suggested that LINC01278 promoted the proliferation of leukemic cells and inhibited leukemic cell apoptosis by targeting the inhibition of miR-500b-3p in cALL, and LINC01278 may be a biological target for the treatment of cALL in the future.

The understanding of soil microbial associations to combined contamination would substantially benefit the restoration of damaged ecosystems, which is currently limited at the field scale. In this study, we investigated the soil bacterial associations to combined contamination with metals (Cd, Cu, Hg, Pb, and Zn), polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). Samples were collected from field sites under five land-use patterns with electronic waste recycling. Results showed that the contents of Cd (0.22-12.86 mg/kg), Cu (17-14,136 mg/kg), Pb (4.6-77,014 mg/kg), Hg (0.28-22 mg/kg), Zn (26-42,495 mg/kg), PAHs (4.6-1753 µg/kg), and PBDEs (1.9-1079 µg/kg) varied significantly across sites. We observed positive correlations between catalase activity and heavy metals, indicative of a resistance response to the oxidative stress induced by metals. Furthermore, the bacterial community diversity was found to be determined primarily by PBDEs, whereas acenaphthylene, available phosphorus, and 2,2',3,3',4,5,6-heptabrominated diphenyl ether (BDE-183) were the three major drivers affecting community composition. The co-occurrence network constructed for bacterial communities exposed to combined contamination was non-random with scale-free, small-world and modularity features. We further proposed functional roles of the modules including stress resistance, hydrocarbon degradation, and nutrient cycling. Overall, the findings of redundancy analysis, variation partition analysis and the co-occurrence network indicated that soil bacterial community under combined contamination cooperated to survive. Members including Rhodoplanes and Nitrospira were capable of degrading PAHs and PBDEs in various pathways, while others, including Acinetobacter, Citrobacter, and Pseudomonas, reduced the metal toxicity to the community. Our findings provide new insights into the responses of soil bacteria, particularly in terms of inter-specific relationships, under combined contamination at the field scale.

Cadmium (Cd) contamination in soil-rice systems has become a global public concern. However, influencing factors and the contamination threshold of Cd in soils remain largely unknown owing to soil heterogeneity, which limits our ability to assess the risk to human health and to draft appropriate environmental policies. In this study, we selected the soil-rice system of Longtang and Shijiao town in southern China, which was characterized by multi-metal acidic soil contamination due to improper electronic waste recycling activities, as a case to analyze the influence of different soil properties on the Cd threshold in the soil and Cd accumulation in rice. The results showed that soil organic matter (SOM) was the main factor regulating Cd accumulation in the soil-rice system. Moreover, compared with the total Cd concentration, the DTPA-extractable Cd concentration in the soil was a better predictor of Cd transportation in the soil-rice system. According to the prediction model, when SOM was < 35 g kg-1, the CdDTPA threshold was 0.16 mg kg-1 with a 95% likelihood of Cdrice accumulation above the Chinese food standard limit (0.2 mg kg-1). Conversely, when SOM was ≥ 35 g kg-1, the CdDTPA threshold was only 0.03 mg kg-1. This study of the influence of SOM on Cd accumulation in a soil-rice system confirms that SOM is a crucial parameter for better and safer rice production, especially in multi-metal contaminated acidic soils.
