RESUMO

PURPOSE: To develop a non-invasive auxiliary assessment method based on CT-derived extracellular volume (ECV) to predict the pathological grading (PG) of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS: The study retrospectively analyzed 238 patients who underwent HCC resection surgery between January 2013 and April 2023. Six machine learning algorithms were employed to construct predictive models for HCC PG: logistic regression, extreme gradient boosting, Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LightGBM), random forest, adaptive boosting, and Gaussian naive Bayes. Model performance was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, including area under the curve (AUC), sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and F1 score. Calibration plots were used for visual evaluation of model calibration. Clinical decision curve analysis was performed to assess potential clinical utility by calculating net benefit. RESULTS: 166 patients from Hospital A were allocated to the training set, while 72 patients from Hospital B (constituting 30.25% of the total sample) were assigned to the test set. The model achieved an AUC of 1.000 (95%CI: 1.000-1.000) in the training set and 0.927 (95%CI: 0.837-0.999) in the validation set, respectively. Ultimately, the model achieved an AUC of 0.909 (95%CI: 0.837-0.980) in the test set, with an accuracy of 0.778, sensitivity of 0.906, specificity of 0.789, negative predictive value of 0.556, and F1 score of 0.908. CONCLUSION: This study successfully developed and validated a non-invasive auxiliary assessment method based on CT-derived ECV to predict the HCC PG, providing important supplementary information for clinical decision-making.

RESUMO

Benefitting from lightweight, high strength, long life, and green recyclability, continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite (CFTPC) pipes have attracted extensive interest, especially in the on-orbit additive manufacturing of structural components. However, the preparation of CFTPC pipes remains challenging due to the on-orbit limited space and high processing temperature of thermoplastic resin. Here, we report an effective approach for high performance carbon fiber/polyether-ether-ketone (CF/PEEK) thin-walled pipes via bidirectional reinforcement using the pultrusion-winding technique. The continuous fabrication of thin-walled pipes can be achieved, but the limitation by the size of core mold is also broken. The compressive and shear performance of CF/PEEK pipes with different layer designs have been studied based on experiments and simulations. With the increase in axial prepreg tape layer, the resultant CF/PEEK pipes exhibit greatly improved axial compression strength. The finite element analysis indicates that the maximum axial stress is decreased due to the axial enhancement. The flexural strength is greatly proved with pultrusion-winding cycles. The simulation confirms that the circumferential strain is effectively reduced. The high performance of bidirectional reinforced CF/PEEK pipes and the facile controllability of this approach highlight their suitability for utilization in on-orbit manufacturing of large-scale structures.

Background: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is corelated with tumor-associated material (TAM), coagulation system and adipocyte tissue, but the relationships between them have been inconsistent. Our study aimed to explore the cut-off intervals of variables that are non-linearly related to ccRCC pathological T stage for providing clues to understand these discrepancies, and to effectively preoperative risk stratification. Methods: This retrospective analysis included 218 ccRCC patients with a clear pathological T stage between January 1st, 2014, and November 30th, 2021. The patients were categorized into two cohorts based on their pathological T stage: low T stage (T1 and T2) and high T stage (T3 and T4). Abdominal and perirenal fat variables were measured based on preoperative CT images. Blood biochemical indexes from the last time before surgery were also collected. The generalized sum model was used to identify cut-off intervals for nonlinear variables. Results: In specific intervals, fibrinogen levels (FIB) (2.63-4.06 g/L) and platelet (PLT) counts (>200.34 × 109/L) were significantly positively correlated with T stage, while PLT counts (<200.34 × 109/L) were significantly negatively correlated with T stage. Additionally, tumor-associated material exhibited varying degrees of positive correlation with T stage at different cut-off intervals (cut-off value: 90.556 U/mL). Conclusion: Preoperative PLT, FIB and TAM are nonlinearly related to pathological T stage. This study is the first to provide specific cut-off intervals for preoperative variables that are nonlinearly related to ccRCC T stage. These intervals can aid in the risk stratification of ccRCC patients before surgery, allowing for developing a more personalized treatment planning.

RESUMO

Two imine-rich polymers (planar P3Q and linear TDB) were synthesized through a facile method. P3Q demonstrates an enlarged π-conjugated structure, increasing the coordination and conversion of Zn2+. As a result, for aqueous zinc-ion batteries, P3Q exhibits more excellent electrochemical performance than TDB with a discharge capacity of 226 mA h g-1 at 0.3 A g-1 and relatively high capacity retention of 70% after 100 cycles at 0.5 A g-1. The redox energy storage mechanism is also explored by ex situ characterization and density functional theory calculation.

The power conversion efficiency (PCE) and stability of n-i-p perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are significantly affected by inherent defects of SnO2 and perovskite layers. In this work, we incorporate 2-bromo-3-thiophenic acid (BrThCOOH) as a multifunctional passivant to simultaneously passivate the defects of SnO2 surface and perovskite layer. BrThCOOH permeates evenly into the MAPbI3 and coordinates with Pb2+ and iodine vacancies (VI+) to reduce surface defect density and inhibit the decomposition of MAPbI3. Carboxylic acid effectively passives the oxygen vacancy on the surface of SnO2 through coordination bonds, reducing the probability of electron capture by SnO2 surface defects, thus contributing to electron transport in device. The interaction of BrThCOOH with MAPbI3 and SnO2 surfaces leads to an upward shift in energy levels, reducing energy loss during charge migration. The optimal MAPbI3 device with BrThCOOH-modified SnO2 (T-SnO2) reveals an improved PCE of 21.12%, much higher than that of the control one (19.12%). The hydrophobicity of BrThCOOH-modified MAPbI3 is also improved, which is beneficial to the durability of the device. After 100 h of storage in the environment, the generated PSCs maintain their initial PCE of 75%, demonstrating excellent long-term stability without any encapsulation.

RESUMO

Vanadium oxide (V2O5) is intercalated by tetrachlorobenzoquinone (TCB) through a one-step solvothermal method in an N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP)/water solvent mixture. The insertion and synergy of TCB and NMP widen the lattice and expand crystal particles, promoting Zn2+ ion transfer and coordination, which endow s-NMP-TCB-V2O5 with an improved capacity of 452 mA h g-1 as well as outstanding capacity retention of 85.6% after 1500 cycles.
