RESUMO

MAIN CONCLUSION: dnal7, a novel allelic variant of the OsHSP40, affects rice plant architecture and grain yield by coordinating auxins, cytokinins, and gibberellic acids. Plant height and leaf morphology are the most important traits of the ideal plant architecture (IPA), and discovering related genes is critical for breeding high-yield rice. Here, a dwarf and narrow leaf 7 (dnal7) mutant was identified from a γ-ray treated mutant population, which exhibits pleiotropic effects, including dwarfing, narrow leaves, small seeds, and low grain yield per plant compared to the wild type (WT). Histological analysis showed that the number of veins and the distance between adjacent small veins (SVs) were significantly reduced compared to the WT, indicating that DNAL7 controls leaf size by regulating the formation of veins. Map-based cloning and transgenic complementation revealed that DNAL7 is allelic to NAL11, which encodes OsHSP40, and the deletion of 2 codons in dnal7 destroyed the His-Pro-Asp (HPD) motif of OsHSP40. In addition, expression of DNAL7 in both WT and dnal7 gradually increased with the increase of temperature in the range of 27-31 °C. Heat stress significantly affected the seedling height and leaf width of the dnal7 mutant. A comparative transcriptome analysis of WT and dnal7 revealed that DNAL7 influenced multiple metabolic pathways, including plant hormone signal transduction, carbon metabolism, and biosynthesis of amino acids. Furthermore, the contents of the cytokinins in leaf blades were much higher in dnal7 than in the WT, whereas the contents of auxins were lower in dnal7. The contents of bioactive gibberellic acids (GAs) including GA1, GA3, and GA4 in shoots were decreased in dnal7. Thus, DNAL7 regulates rice plant architecture by coordinating the balance of auxins, cytokinins, and GAs. These results indicate that OsHSP40 is a pleiotropic gene, which plays an important role in improving rice yield and plant architecture.

RESUMO

Osteoarthritis is the most prevalent degenerative joint disease reported worldwide. Conventional treatment strategies mainly focus on medication and involve surgical joint replacement. The use of these therapies is limited by gastrointestinal complications and the lifespan of joint prostheses. Hence, safe and efficacious drugs are urgently needed to impede the osteoarthritis progression. Urolithin B, a metabolite of ellagic acid in the gut, exhibits anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties; however, its role in osteoarthritis remains unclear. In this study, we demonstrated that urolithin B efficiently inhibits the inflammatory factor-induced production of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP3 and MMP13) in vitro and upregulates the expression of type II collagen and aggrecan. Urolithin B alleviates cartilage erosion and osteophyte formation induced by anterior cruciate ligament transections. Moreover, urolithin B inhibits the activation of the NF-κB pathway by reducing the phosphorylation of Iκb-α and the nuclear translocation of P65. In summary, urolithin B significantly inhibits inflammation and alleviates osteoarthritis. Hence, urolithin B can be considered a potential agent suitable for the effective treatment of osteoarthritis in the future.

RESUMO

Two laboratory-level biological aerated filters (BAF) were constructed to explore their treatment capacity for simulated antibiotic wastewater at high (1 - 16 mg/L) and low (0 - 0.5 mg/L) concentrations. Results showed that BAF was capable of removing both sulfonamides and tetracyclines with an efficiency of over 90 % at 16 mg/L. The main mechanism for removing antibiotics was found to be biodegradation followed by adsorption. Paenarthrobacter was identified as the key genus in sulfonamides degradation, while Hydrogenophaga played a crucial role in tetracyclines degradation. Antibiotics resistant genes such as intI1, sul1, sul2, tetA, tetW and tetX were frequently detected in the effluent, with interception rates ranging from 105 - 106 copies/mL. The dominated microorganisms obtained in the study could potentially be utilized to enhance the capacity of biological processes for treating antibiotics contaminated wastewater. These findings contribute to a better understanding of BAF treating wastewater containing antibiotics and resistant genes.

RESUMO

CD47 is a 50 kDa five-spanning membrane receptor that plays a crucial role in multiple cellular processes, including myeloid cell activation, neutrophils transmigration, vascular remodeling, leukocyte adhesion and trans-endothelial migration. Recent studies have revealed that CD47 is a highly expressed anti-phagocytic signal in several types of cancer, and therefore, blocking of CD47 has shown an effective therapeutic potential in cancer immunotherapy. In addition, CD47 has been found to be involved in a complex interplay with microglia and other types of cells, and increasing evidence indicates that CD47 can be targeted as part of immune modulatory strategies for non-neoplastic diseases as well. In this review, we focus on CD47 and its role in non-neoplastic diseases, including neurological disorders, atherosclerosis and autoimmune diseases. In addition, we discuss the major challenges and potential remedies associated with CD47-SIRPα-based immunotherapies.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To analyze factors influencing the underestimation of noise-induced permanent threshold shift (NIPTS) among manufacturing workers, providing baseline data for revising noise exposure standard. DESIGN: A cross-sectional study was designed with 2702 noise-exposed workers from 35 enterprises from 10 industries. Personal noise exposure level(LAeq,8h) and noise kurtosis level were determined by a noise dosimeter. Questionnaires and hearing loss tests were performed for each subject. The predicted NIPTS was calculated using the ISO 1999:2013 model for each participant, and the actual measured NIPTS was corrected for age and sex. The factors influencing the underestimation of NIPTS were investigated. RESULTS: The predicted NIPTS at each test frequency (0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 6kHz) and mean NIPTS at 2, 3, 4, and 6kHz (NIPTS2346) using the ISO 1999:2013 model were significantly lower than their corresponding measured NIPTS, respectively (P < 0.001). The ISO model significantly underestimated the NIPTS2346 by 12.36 dB HL. The multiple linear regression analysis showed that noise exposure level, exposure duration, age, and kurtosis could affect the degree of underestimation of NIPTS2346. The generalized additive model (GAM) with (penalized) spline components showed nonlinear relationships between critical factors (age, exposure duration, noise level, and kurtosis) and the underestimated NIPTS2346.The underestimated NIPTS2346 decreased with an increase in exposure duration (especially over ten years). There was no apparent trend in the underestimated NIPTS2346 with age. The underestimated NIPTS2346 decreased with the increased noise level [especially > 90 dB(A)]. The underestimated NIPTS2346 increased with an increase in noise kurtosis after adjusting for the noise exposure level and exposure duration and ultimately exhibiting a linear regression relationship. CONCLUSIONS: The ISO 1999 predicting model significantly underestimated the noise-induced hearing loss among manufacturing workers. The degree of underestimation became more significant at the noise exposure condition of fewer than ten years, less than 90 dB(A), and higher kurtosis levels. It is necessary to apply kurtosis to adjust the underestimation of hearing loss and consider the applying condition of noise energy metrics when using the ISO predicting model.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: For cereal crop breeding, it is meaningful to improve utilization efficiency (NUE) under low nitrogen (LN) levels while maintaining crop yield. OsCBL1-knockdown (OsCBL1-KD) plants exhibited increased nitrogen accumulation and NUE in the field of low N level. RESULTS: OsCBL1-knockdown (OsCBL1-KD) in rice increased the expression of a nitrate transporter gene OsNRT2.2. In addition, the expression of OsNRT2.2, was suppressed by OsCCA1, a negative regulator, which could directly bind to the MYB-binding elements (EE) in the region of OsNRT2.2 promoter. The OsCCA1 expression was found to be down-regulated in OsCBL1-KD plants. At the low Nitrogen (N) level field, the OsCBL1-KD plants exhibited a substantial accumulation of content and higher NUE, and their actual biomass remained approximately as the same as that of the wild type. CONCLUSION: These results indicated that down-regulation of OsCBL1 expression could upregulate the expression of OsNRT2.2 by suppressing the expression of OsCCA1and then increasing the NUE of OsCBL1-KD plants under low nitrogen availability.

RESUMO

The recovery of spent lithium-ion batteries has not only economic value but also ecological benefits. In this paper, molten-salt electrolysis was employed to recover spent LiCoO2 batteries, in which NaCl-Na2CO3 melts were used as the electrolyte, the graphite rod and the mixtures of the spent LiCoO2 cathode and anode were used as the anode and cathode, respectively. During the electrolysis, the LiCoO2 was electrochemically reduced to Co, and Li+ and O2- entered into the molten salt. The O2- was discharged at the anode to generate CO2 and formed Li2CO3. After electrolysis, the cathodic products were separated by magnetic separation to obtain Co and graphite, and Li2CO3 was recovered by water leaching. The recovery efficiencies of Li, Co, and graphite reached 99.3%, 98.1%, and 83.6%, respectively. Overall, this paper provides a simple and efficient electrochemical method for the simultaneous recovery of the cathode and the anode of spent LiCoO2 batteries.

RESUMO

Polychlorinated (hetero)arenes have shown great promise for organic optoelectronics applications. However, the harsh synthetic routes for polychlorinated compounds and the possible luminescence quenching from the compact intermolecular π-π stacking induced by chlorine atoms limit their investigations and applications in luminescent materials. Herein, two isomeric polychlorinated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) compounds JY-1-Cl and JY-2-Cl consisting of rigidified aryl ketones and amine are designed and synthesized under mild conditions through nucleophilic chlorination intermediated by an electron donor-acceptor complex. Among them, as a result of the strong π-π interactions induced by chlorine atoms, JY-2-Cl exhibits bright monomer and dimer emissions with dual thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) characters. Notably, compared with the non-chlorinated compounds, a high photoluminescence quantum yield is maintained after introducing multiple chlorine atoms into JY-2-Cl. The first dual-TADF organic light-emitting diodes are also successfully fabricated with maximum external quantum efficiency as high as 29.1 % by employing JY-2-Cl as emitter. This work presents a new paradigm and synthesis of polychlorinated amine-carbonyl PAHs and demonstrates the great potential of the chlorinated materials for luminescent applications.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study is to assess the association between solid fuel use for cooking or heating and the risk of hypertension among individuals older than 45 years. METHODS: Baseline questionnaires were used to collect self-reported primary cooking and heating fuel usage. Outcomes were defined as the time of first diagnosis of hypertension. Data were analyzed using Cox proportional hazards models. RESULTS: Solid fuel use for cooking was associated with a higher risk of hypertension. The association between solid fuel for cooking and hypertension remained significant among residents in north China, individuals aged 45 to 65 years, urban residents, and nonsmokers. Solid fuel for heating was associated with a higher risk of hypertension only in South China. CONCLUSIONS: Solid fuel use may result in an increased risk of hypertension. Our findings further emphasize the health hazards of solid fuel for cooking and heating.

RESUMO

Spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and benzene-containing polymers (BCPs) are two major pollutants that cause serious environmental burdens. Herein, spent LIBs and BCPs are copyrolyzed in a sealed reactor to generate Li2CO3, metals, and/or metal oxides without emitting toxic benzene-based gases. The use of a closed reactor allows the sufficient reduction reaction between the BCP-derived polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) gases and lithium transition metal oxides, achieving the Li recovery efficiencies of 98.3, 99.9, and 97.5% for LiCoO2, LiMn2O4, and LiNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2O2, respectively. More importantly, the thermal decomposition of PAHs (e.g., phenol and benzene) is further catalyzed by the in situ generated Co, Ni, and MnO2 particles, which forms metal/carbon composites and thus prevent the emissions of toxic gases. Overall, the copyrolysis in a closed system paves a green way to synergistically recycle spent LIBs and handle waste BCPs.

RESUMO

Thermal hydrolysis (TH) pretreatment, as an anaerobic digestion (AD) pretreatment, has not only been verified in the laboratory but also frequently employed in actual engineering. However, the properties of anaerobic digestion liquid (ADL), such as high organic matter concentration, high ammonia nitrogen (NH4+-N) concentration, and low carbon-nitrogen ratio (C/N), have posed some difficulties in the follow-up treatment. To address the above issues, the autotrophic nitrogen removal (ANR) process is developed to treat ADL. Due to the NH4+-N, organic materials, toxic and harmful substances in the ADL that might directly impact the activity of functional bacteria, the ADL should be treated before being fed into the ANR process. This paper provided a focused review of the thermal hydrolysis-anaerobic digestion process (TH-ADP) mechanism and the ANR mechanism, summarized the existing difficulties in the treatment of thermal hydrolysis-anaerobic digestion liquid (TH-ADL), assessed the research status thoroughly, and offered the potential solutions to the problems.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Based on the ecological systems theory and cumulative risk model, the current study aimed to determine the mediating effects of parenting styles, peer relationship, and psychological capital on family socioeconomic status and adolescents' aggressive behaviors, as well as the moderating effects of economic regional differences. METHODS: In a cross-sectional design, 1271 Chinese adolescents were recruited to complete the MacArthur Scale, the short-form Egna Minnen av Barndoms Uppfostran, the Positive PsyCap Questionnaire, the peer support subscale in the Student Personal Perception of Classroom Climate, and the Aggression Questionnaire. RESULTS: After controlling for gender and age, parenting style, peer relationship, and psychological capital not only mediated, but also constituted multiple chains mediation between family socioeconomic status and aggressive behaviors. Moreover, economic regional differences moderated the multiple chains mediation model between family socioeconomic status and aggressive behaviors. CONCLUSION: The accumulation of multiple adverse factors increases the probability of inducing aggressive behaviors, and the development of psychological capital helps reduce the occurrence of aggressive behaviors in adolescents.

RESUMO

Participation in gateball sports may improve the well-being of older individuals in the context of active aging. However, the mechanisms of the effect need a social viewpoint. A random sample of 337 valid data points was gathered from seven cities in the Chinese province of Hunan. Structural equation modeling, fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis, and other techniques examined the standard structure and causal links between involvement in gateball sports, social capital, and elderly people's well-being. According to structural equation modeling, playing gateball sports may improve elderly people's well-being, and social capital may influence this link to some extent. The engagement in gateball sports and social capital work in concert to promote well-being, according to a qualitative comparative study of the fuzzy sets that identified four patterns of "A, B, C, and D" antecedent constructs that do so in elderly people.

RESUMO

Oryza sativa ssp. javanica rice varieties exhibit a wide variation in the phenotypes of several important agronomic traits, including grain quality, grain shape, plant architecture, disease resistance, and high adaption to an unfavorable environment, indicating a great potential for rice improvement. DNA molecular markers are basic and critical tools in genetic analysis and gene mining. However, only a few whole-genome variation analyses have been performed in Oryza sativa ssp. Javanica (tropical japonica rice), and this has hampered the utilization of such an important resource. In this study, the length of insertions/deletions variation greater larger than 10 bp from 10 Oryza sativa ssp. indica rice and 10 Oryza sativa ssp. tropical japonica rice were extracted by using the Nipponbare genome as a reference. A total of 118 primer pairs which were almost evenly distributed on each chromosome corresponding to the loci of InDels were designed by the Primer 5 program. We confirmed 85 InDel markers from 60 rice varieties, including indica and tropical japonica, by running polyacrylamide gels. The InDel markers function like SSRs in identifying hybrids, calculating genetic distance, constructing the genetic linkage map, and gene mining. The InDel markers developed in this study might help in genetic studies and to investigate the tropical japonica rice varieties.

RESUMO

CD47 is ubiquitously expressed on the surface of cells and plays a critical role in self-recognition. By interacting with SIRPα, TSP-1 and integrins, CD47 modulates cellular phagocytosis by macrophages, determines life span of individual erythrocytes, regulates activation of immune cells, and manipulates synaptic pruning during neuronal development. As such, CD47 has recently be regarded as one of novel innate checkpoint receptor targets for cancer immunotherapy. In this review, we will discuss increasing awareness about the diverse functions of CD47 and its role in immune system homeostasis. Then, we will discuss its potential therapeutic roles against cancer and outlines, the possible future research directions of CD47- based therapeutics against cancer.

RESUMO

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the epidemiological characteristics of occupational noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) among manufacturing workers, and to provide evidence for diagnosing and preventing occupational hearing loss caused by complex noise, which is different from Gaussian noise in temporal structure. Methods: One thousand and fifty manufacturing workers exposed to occupational noise were recruited in a cross-sectional survey. Exposure characteristics and epidemiological distribution of hearing loss and noise exposure metrics (noise energy and kurtosis) were investigated, and the relationship between noise exposure and hearing loss was analyzed. The effects of kurtosis on hearing threshold shift across different frequencies and on NIHL development with exposure duration and noise intensity were also investigated. Results: Each type of work had specific noise exposure metrics. Noise intensity and kurtosis were independent parameters (r = -0.004, p = 0.885). The prevalence of NIHL and the hearing threshold level had a specific distribution in different types of work. Kurtosis deepened the hearing notch at high frequencies and accelerated the formation of early hearing loss. The effect of exposure duration and noise intensity on the prevalence of high-frequency NIHL (i.e., at 3, 4, 6, and 8 kHz) for manufacturing workers increased with kurtosis in workers with noise exposure duration of less than 10 years and with LAeq.8h between 80 and 90 dB(A). Male (OR = 1.557, 95%CI = 1.141-2.124), age (OR = 1.033, 95%CI = 1.014-1.052), exposure duration (OR = 1.072, 95%CI = 1.038-1.107), kurtosis (OR = 1.002, 95%CI = 1.001-1.003), and noise intensity (LAeq.8h; OR = 1.064, 95%CI = 1.044-1.084) were risk factors for high-frequency NIHL. The speech-frequency NIHL (i.e., at 0.5, 1, and 2 kHz) risk of workers exposed to manufacturing noise was related to age (OR = 1.071, 95%CI = 1.043-1.100). There were no statistically significant associations between speech-frequency NIHL and sex, noise exposure duration, kurtosis, and noise intensity (LAeq.8h). Conclusion: The high-frequency NIHL prevalence among manufacturing workers is associated with sex, age, exposure duration, noise intensity, and temporal structure of noise, while the speech-frequency NIHL prevalence is associated with age. Kurtosis strengthens the association of noise exposure duration and noise intensity with high-frequency hearing loss. The influence of noise temporal structure should be considered in the diagnosis and early prevention of occupational hearing loss caused by complex noise.

RESUMO

Coronary atherosclerotic heart disease poses a significant threat to human health. The pathological basis is atherosclerosis and foam-cell formation is the key factor in the initiation of atherosclerosis. In the present study, foam cell models were established using 50 ng/ml oxidized low-density lipoprotein to stimulate in vitro cultures of THP-1 cells for 72 h. The expression of zinc finger protein 580 (ZNF580), a Cys2-His2 zinc finger protein containing 172 amino acids that was originally cloned by screening a human aortic cDNA library, was measured in foam cells and its interaction with various regulatory factors during foam-cell formation was investigated. Oil red O staining was used to observe cell morphology and intracellular lipid levels. Lentivirus transfection was employed to either overexpress or silence ZNF580 in THP-1 cells, and an inverted fluorescence microscope was used to observe the distribution of ZNF580 immunofluorescence to determine the transfection rate. RNA and total protein were extracted and the expression levels of ZNF580, CD36, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPAR-γ), ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) and apolipoprotein E (ApoE) were measured by reverse transcription-quantitative PCR. The protein levels were examined by western blot analysis to evaluate the interaction between ZNF580 and associated regulatory factors. ZNF580 was able to significantly increase the expression levels of ApoE and ABCA1 and significantly decrease the expression levels of CD36 and PPAR-γ, suggesting that ZNF580-mediated inhibition of foam-cell formation is associated with the PPAR-γ-CD36 signalling pathway. Based on these findings, ZNF580 may be a potential therapeutic candidate for the treatment of coronary atherosclerotic heart disease.

RESUMO

The prospects of China's sports sector hinge on how sports cities can thrive sustainably in the context of the new global pandemic, unlocking consumer potential and boosting domestic demand. In this study, 35 Chinese cities were chosen as research samples, and research methods such as literature, logical analysis, and fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis were used to select conditional variables such as government policy promotion and assistance, expert human resources, sports competitions and events, stadiums and facilities, and sponsorship by sports enterprises to examine how Chinese sports-consuming cities can develop sustainably. The research discovered that sports contests and events, as well as stadiums and facilities, are the essential prerequisites for the sustainable growth of sports-consuming cities, and that diverse combinations of the two may play a vital role in different circumstances. For the sustainable development of sports-consuming cities, there are four clusters and three models, which correspond to the "Venue + Event" model (Clusters 1 and 2), the "Event-led" model (Cluster 3), and the "Venue-led" model (Cluster 4). To encourage the high-quality growth of China's sports business, each city may establish its development strategy based on its unique qualities. The goal is to supply Chinese expertise for the long-term growth of Western sports cities.
